Thanks for picking up the May 2014 issue of Southampton Music Magazine and the first of our festival specials, this month we take a ‘walk on the wild side’ with Blissfields! We’ll be rounding up the best of the UK festivals over the next three months, starting with some of the ‘big guns’ and our pick of the local events. Also this month we catch up with Dave McPherson of InMe ahead of their Talking Heads show and we chat to Charlotte of The Subways before they return to their roots on the small venue circuit for a run of festival warm-ups including Southampton’s Lennons club. Keeping with the festival vibes we also have TWO pairs of weekend tickets for Victorious festival up for grabs!

Staking its claim as one of the South’s most revered festivals, the 14th Blissfields is set to be as magical as ever. Renowned for its relaxed atmosphere, family friendly ethos and varied line up, 2 Many DJ’s head up the bill for 2014 alongside Sleigh Bells, Hercules & Love Affair, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Dub Pistols (we’ll be chatting to them a little later on), Chloe Howl, Electric Swing Circus, Beans on Toast and LOADS MORE. They’re taking a Walk on the Wild Side for this year’s theme so take your image on safari (hands up who hasn’t got an animal onesie..!) and get involved. They’re even gunning for the world record for ‘largest gathering of people wearing animal prints’ and herding everyone in on the Saturday, decked out in as much leopard print or zebra pelt as possible. There are loads of facets to this most relaxing of festivals. Heading up the entertainment are The Wild Stage and The Hustle Den. The Hidden Hedge will overwhelm your senses the very second you step through the PoRtAl with installations, big audio visual effects featuring live mixed sounds, an enormous fire pit with chill out area, intense lighting, extreme noise and the return of the amazing ‘AREA 51’ dance dome. Party into the early hours on The Bubble Bus. The Blisscotheque held on it has become a much loved institution and has provided some of the most memorable moments of abandon into the early hours. New for 2014, The Larch stage grew out of the acoustic stage at the last festival. With an ‘everything goes’ policy it will be home to all things acoustic by day but be hugely eclectic by night. One of the festival’s most attractive qualities is its facilities for children. With all sorts of crafts, activities and general silliness available for both kids and adults you can have a go at being a master saddler or tie-dying your own Blissfields t-shirt. The beautiful Angel Gardens have got everything going on from dance to drama, yoga, music, crafts and general daftness and this year they’re hosting a huge general birthday party for anyone celebrating over the weekend!
With all this on offer, it’s no wonder that festival-goers and even the artists themselves keep coming back to Blissfields year after year. But who better to tell you all about the magic of Blissfields than the founder and organiser himself? We grabbed Paul Bliss for a quick chat about why he loves the festival business so much and how the preparations for this year are coming along… What made you first think ‘yeah, I’m going to make a festival’? Well ages ago when I saw Woodstock the movie when I was 18! It took me 20 years to bring that to fruition though and happened when we had a musician friend staying on the farm in a caravan in 2001 and Melanie and I got together with him to have a party basically! It’s just grown a bit since. You’ve been on the current site since 2011, do you feel like you’ve settled in now? We felt settled in straight away back in 2011. We’d been eyeing up the field for a few years and because the farmers are family friends it felt pretty much home from home. We made a few changes to the layout last year which were a great bonus and which we’ll be keeping for this year. All our attendees took to it straight away, it really is a magnificent site.
Southampton MUSIC | MAY 2014
blissfields
The festival started off as a free event, was it a difficult choice to make the move towards charging attendees? The choice was made for us by the numbers coming and conditions from the local council. Once you put a fence up, you need stewards and security and it just starts to cost too much to be a “hobby” and asking favours from friends, and now we have a group of people who work too much to not expect being paid, and then there’s the acts’ fees increasing, and many more costs, unfortunately nowadays it’s inevitable once an event becomes popular. However we do look back with fondness to the days it was possible to be free. Has there ever been a time when you’ve considered packingit all in? Not for more than a few hours! Even if we did consider it we wouldn’t be allowed to by family and friends. It now has a life of its own and we get dragged along with it! Traditionally you’ve had a keen eye for booking bands on their way up. Who should we be looking out for this year? It’s always something that’s a bit of a rod for our backs, by the time the next year comes round and lots of last year’s bands have become well known people are surprised to see a whole host of new names they’re not so familiar with again, but trust us in the coming months they will be. My top three picks: Chloe Howl will become even better known, Nick Mulvey and Snakehips would be a good start, also Wolf Alice are a big favourite of mine. You’re also a great supporter of local artists. Tell us about the ‘Road to Blissfields’…. This has grown over the last three years and has been a great way to get to know local acts, some of whom may only have gigged a couple of times. In Portsmouth this year it was one band’s first gig, and they nearly won! It’s a Battle of the Bands held in six local venues and Stoke (don’t ask!) the winners from each event get to play the festival. This year the events have nearly all sold out and been turning people away, so it’s great to see the support it gets. You’ve got boutique camping this year, what’s available? Well Camel Camp have been coming for years with the Tuareg style tents, already made up with beds, carpets, lighting and other furnishings. They’ve nearly sold out
SOUTHAMPTON MUSIC | MAY 2014
already, hen parties love them! This year we’ve tried an even more luxury experience with sshh Yurts, truly fabulous accommodation and service, and they have taken healthy bookings already, check it out on our website. Is there anything else new for 2014? We have a Spa Area with hot tubs and a sauna (book early, places are going quick). A lecture and debating area curated by the Born Free Foundation who are our chosen charity this year. A bigger family area with its own theatre tent, the acoustic tent has been given a big refurb to become more of a party area late at night. The cinema and film festival will also be returning from last year. We have a couple of new small DJ / dance stages scattered in the arena for this year and more walkabout theatre. In fact pretty much everything has been given a steroid injection for this year. Oh yes we’ve got a Guinness World of Records attempt this year too (come dressed up in animal print!) You’re taking a ‘walk on the wild side’ this year, have you got your costume sorted? Yes of course but won’t be telling you and spoiling the surprise! For festival-goers that have never been to Blissfields before, what can they expect? Excellent music of all genres in a wonderful setting with a friendly & party atmosphere throughout. Expect to find acts that you’ve not heard of but you’ll be listening to for years to come and meet new friends along the way as well. Experience and get involved with activities you wouldn’t normally come across in the outside world, there’s as much to do away from the stages as there is listening to DJs and bands, so make the most of it, and if you have time find relax as well in our bars, cafes and chillout areas! Are there any golden rules? Leave any preconceived ideas behind, do or listen to something different that you might not normally consider, and embrace the music, activities and people you meet. And finally, how much do you love your job? What would you be doing if it wasn’t Blissfields? Well I do have another job as well as we run boarding kennels too and I can honestly say that although they can be demanding that both jobs are pretty excellent, we do appreciate how lucky we are to be running a festival and how many truly amazing people it connects us to!
BLISSFIELDS
SUBGIANT first performed at Blissfields way back in 2003 and are generally considered to be the ‘house band’. With new single ‘Monsters Incorporated’ being released on 4th June, we caught up with bassist Olly Maw to find out why they keep returning to these particular fields… How did your first spot at Blissfields way back in 2003 come about? We were playing at another festival down the road, and we noticed one of the other bands on the bill were also playing at this place called Blissfields later in the year, that was the first we heard of it, so we got in touch with Blissfields and said “hey! You want to come to this other festival and see us play” to our surprise they did, and I guess they must have been impressed as they booked us on the spot, we’ve been great friends ever since. We played that first year, not on the stage, but under a gazebo next to, it for some reason, and of course we pilfered our drummer from another band whilst we were there. What makes Blissfields different from other UK festivals? It has all the good stuff without any of the bad and still manages to retain a garden party vibe at the same time as putting on a big show production. You get spoilt every year with a great clutch of breaking acts, so many acts from Blissfields past have gone on to major things, the festival is a breeding ground for it. We’ve played at over 60 UK festivals and Blissfields is the most beautiful, in many ways, the site, the people, the atmosphere. What can we expect from your set this year? I think we are the last live act of the whole weekend, so it’s a late one, which means it will be a full-on set of all our heaviest electro steppers. Is there anyone else on the line up you suggest we check out? I think top of our lists are RY X, Gentleman’s Dub Club, TuneYards, Dan Croll, Benny Page and do check out our good friends Pachango on the Thursday night, proper party vibes from them. Also can’t wait for pedigree headliners 2manydjs and hanging out in the hidden hedge till the silly hours. DUB PISTOLS are another act to have graced the Fields of Bliss numerous times. We asked founding member Barry Ashworth exactly what he thought of Hampshire’s sweetheart festival… How many times have you played Blissfields before? I’m not really sure…..I think maybe 5 or more! What makes you keep coming back? The Blissfields team are like a family. They put their heart and soul into the festival and that really comes across, the crowd are amazing and have always reacted to our show so we could never say no if we get invited to play. It’s an honour and a pleasure. What can we expect from your set this year? Well we have a new album due for release in September so we will be playing new tracks from that and we also have Seanie Tee from Dark Horizon playing with us now and its taking our show to the next level, vibes are gonna be high for sure. Is there anyone else on the line up you suggest we check out? Well I’m a massive Soulwax fan so 2ManyDJs are gonna rock it and our friends the Gentleman’s Dub Club are always good value.

InMe managed to build themselves a great following when they emerged back in the noughties as little more than teenagers. Standing apart from the nu-metal crowds they produced angsty alt-metal and for a time were one of the UK’s biggest alternative offerings. Still held aloft by fiercely loyal fans over 10 years later they’ve weathered the years whilst many of their contemporaries have fallen by the wayside. They’ve been every which way through the struggles of musicianship and are still one of the most genuinely exciting bands on the circuit. These guys truly are the godfathers of British alt-rock and we were lucky enough to grab a few minutes with frontman Dave McPherson recently to talk pledges, albums and long walks in the countryside…. You’ve essentially grown up in the music biz, and many of your fans have grown up alongside you – that must create a pretty special bond with InMe fans… It definitely feels special. In the early days it was kinda strange sometimes as people treated us like we were megastars at shows, like screaming & crying etc! These days it just feels like a huge bunch of mates. Our audience are a really sweet, appreciative bunch and I feel super lucky that they’ve stuck with us. How has your sound changed since you broke out in the noughties? Naturally really. We always approach new albums from a different angle consciously and subconsciously. Overgrown Eden was written when we were teenagers so a hell of a lot has changed in many ways since then. I feel our songwriting and technical ability is loads stronger these days and lyrically and vocally what I sing about is a lot more focused. Hopefully there’s a new album on its way. How has the Pledge campaign gone? It’s been a slow burner but we have 3 weeks left and it’s currently at 64% so I’m quietly confident people are just keeping us on our toes! The new EP has been recorded and I’m really proud of it. Each song stands alone, big melodic anthems.
You keep yourself pretty busy with your solo stuff, new band Centiment and of course InMe, what do you like to do when you have time off? I’m a bit of a walker really. I constantly wander off on my own around woodland and countryside walks etc. I love hanging out with my girlfriend and friends but I enjoy being a bit of a loner sometimes too so a nice walk with a couple of decent pub stops gives me time to think about music and lyrics or simply chill and switch off. I’m also a film addict, love travel and holidays (when I can) plus curry. Curry brings it all together nicely. What’s it like working so closely with your brother all the time? We suppose you must all feel like brothers to some extent! We can wind each other up like most brothers but mostly we work very well together and enjoy hanging out and ripping the shit out of each other! Greg’s an amazing musician too so it’s inspiring to work with people like that and bounce off each other’s ideas. What can we expect from the live show this time round? We’re just happy to be back on stage mainly! We’ll be discussing the setlist this weekend but it’ll be a nice mix of old and new plus some songs we’ve never tried hopefully and some massive singalongs. That and a hell of a lot of throwing ourselves around.
What do you think of the pledging system and how it’s enabling bands? Well for us as an independent band without label support it’s a lifesaver really. It’s essentially a pre-order but we put 110% into making sure pledgers get rewarded for basically allowing for our music to still be heard to the level we want. With the conventional route it’s incredibly hard for smaller bands on a financial level whereas Pledge has enabled us to still record in a quality studio, afford a press agent, manufacturing, touring, music videos etc. We don’t make money from this band but it’s amazing we can still be a band outside of just a rehearsal studio. What can we expect from the album? Massive riffs and leads, huge melodies, high intensity and 4 songs that are all completely different to each other. It’s my favourite InMe material, although as always I’m biased!
What’s your favourite thing about touring? The show is my favourite thing. Other than that I love the chill time, love being with my mates, love seeing new places and meeting new people. And of course, the beer.
Will we be seeing InMe on the festival circuit this summer? I truly hope so but nothing has been confirmed yet.
next show! - may 9th | TALKING HEADS www.inmeofficial.co.uk
SOUTHAMPTON MUSIC | MAY 2014
Who are your ‘Ones to Watch’ at the moment? Which bands should we be checking out? Hey Vanity. I say it all the time but not just ‘cause they’re my mates, they’re also a ridiculously good band and deserve to be massive. And finally, have you got any advice for bands just starting out? Create music that you want to hear, not a particular scene. Don’t compromise your music. Don’t expect to get rich or even earn a living to be honest. Do it because you love the music and that moment on stage. Don’t do it for girls! WORDS ZAN LAWTHER

Festival food is always an issue but apparently if we took all the burgers consumed at Reading festival last year (50,000 say the organisers) then it would take 167 cows to produce all the meat. if we assume 1.2million people visited a festival this year then roughly 690,000 burgers would be made and consumed. That’s 2,300 cows!!! Sorry veggies...

You’ve been away for a little while, what’s been going on? We’ve been busily working on songs for the new album, which will be ready for release very soon! Billy is producing the new album, so the recording process has been a huge amount of fun, though a lot of work for Billy! We know Southampton is excited to have you playing such an intimate venue, what is it that attracts you to smaller shows? We’ve not played any shows yet this year, and we thought playing small venues would be an awesome way back into touring. We started out playing small venues and it’s what initially gave us our love for playing live - we can’t wait for this tour! So will we be hearing a lot of new material? We will be playing some new songs, which we’re always a bit nervous about, but it’ll be interesting to see the crowd response. We’re really proud of the new songs, and are lucky to have loyal fans, who have been telling us how excited they are to hear the new songs! Billy has been leaking small teasers via Twitter, which have been getting a great reaction. When is the new album coming out? No official date yet....sooooooon!
In 2005, Welwyn Garden City three-piece, The Subways crashed onto the UK rock scene with their, now cult, debut album ‘Young For Eternity’ and international party mix tape classic ‘Rock & Roll Queen’. On the International live circuit, The Subways have earned praise from all corners. Five consecutive years at Reading & Leeds festivals along with appearances at Glastonbury and T in the Park cemented their reputation as festival favourites. Their 2011 album ‘Money and Celebrity’ was well received amongst critics (Kerrang! described it as “an album packed not only with exuberant and quirkily innovative songs but a sense of energy and defiance’) and got the band onto the coveted Radio 1’s playlist. They went on to play in 25 countries and 100 + cities as part of their European tour as well as headlining their first European festival in Cologne, pulling 60,000 people in front of the stage. According to Billy, Charlotte and Josh, “There is nothing more exciting for us than being on tour. We never want to do anything else. To get up onstage and to play rock and roll every day, to visit new towns, new cities, new countries, new continents and to make new friends along the way, it’s the most amazing experience we’ve ever felt”. But for the last year or so things have been pretty quiet for The Subways. They’ve been taking a well-earned rest, working on new material and honing a new live show and now they’re BACK for a string of intimate shows and festival appearances. We grabbed a few moments with Charlotte (bass/vocals) to find out exactly where they’ve been and where they’re headed in 2014…..

What can we expect? As Billy is producing the record, it’s been a very internal effort, with the recording taking place at our rehearsal room and the vocals even in Billy’s house. We genuinely have had a lot of fun throughout the process, which I think you can hear on the recordings. The songs are very energetic and have quite a heavy rock sound with pop melodies over the top. You have an extensive history on the festival circuit – do you have a favourite? Very difficult to pick a favourite! It’s always exciting to play on the big stages like Rock am Ring and Reading/Leeds, but I think there’s sometimes something really fun about the small festivals. We’ve played some festivals in Eastern Europe, which are quite small and we’re the only British band and they’re awesome! You’re headlining Camden Rocks, are you excited? Most definitely a massive YES! The Electric Ballroom is a great venue and one of the few in London we’ve never played. The line up for the festival is really cool too, so I think the whole day will be a great experience. Have you got many other festivals lined up this summer? We’ve got quite a few, with more coming in too. After not playing any shows so far this year, we can’t wait to jump into festival season! We’re approaching the 10 year mark for The Subways, any plans for celebrating? We have some plans... which can be enjoyed by all our fans! And finally, if you could play with one band (past, present or deceased), who would it be? For me personally....not a band, but an artist. Kylie Minogue is my favourite and has been since I was 5. If we could play a few songs as her backing band that would be incredible! I’m sorry if that’s the most over the top enthusiastic interview you’ve ever read...but that’s genuinely the place I’m in at the moment! Bring on the tour! WORDS ZAN LAWTHER

with Jason Danzelman What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to? Roger Waters - The Wall at 02 Arena. Would you rather be a rubber duck in a bath full with 30 stone naked men, or be held captive naked on top of the tower of London? I’m not a particularly strong swimmer especially when fighting through folds of flab, so let’s go with the second one. Who would win in a fight a great white shark or a crocodile? I’d like to see that! Jaws would batter any crocodile I reckon. What festivals are you playing this year? Next up is Hit The Deck, which we’re massively excited to be playing! Then we have Camden Rocks, 2000 Trees, Nass, and some others we can’t mention yet. Your first born is a girl but you can only name her Gladys or Mable, what name would you chose? Mable. That’s kinda sweet in a way....I guess. There are 4 boxes, one has gold in, one has spiders in, one has the remains of a pheasant found on the M5 in and one has a Cadbury’s cream egg… what colour socks are you wearing? Black, to match my soul. How about I swap my socks for the gold? Pretty good deal I think. Who has the biggest feet in the band? Mr Dan Freese does. What a powerhouse! Which one of you would make the best girl? Fish would definitely. He already has no hair on his bum cheeks so that’s a good start! Jimmy has 5 apples in his hands, Rebecca has 3 oranges in her hands, which one hasn’t washed their hands? Probably Jimmy because he’s a dude. Girls are always nice and clean and hygienic and smell of roses. What 3 things are you definitely taking on tour with you? Optimism, a terrible sense of humour, and a consistently empty stomach. What’s on your iPod RIGHT NOW? The new Manchester Orchestra album, Cope. Which TV game show would you like to go on? The Crystal Maze. They should make a new series and have Team Verses on it!

previews Noisy, Norwegian alternative rock trio
Dark and angular, Deathcrush’s sound is at times downright bluesy and at other times dipping a toe into thrash. Call it what you like, it’s certainly a big noise that comes out of this Oslo based trio; riot music for the 21st century. Go and get your grind on to their dirty great sound and when they’re playing stadiums, you’ll be able to say you were there at the beginning. FOR FANS OF: BAND OF SKULLS / SONIC YOUTH / THE BREEDERS
THE GHOST INSIDE
MAY 21 | MO CLUB
Hard hitting, passionate and fuelled by the kinetic riffing and thunderous breakdowns that have become synonymous with the metalcore genre, LA based The Ghost Inside take their heaviness seriously. Prepare to get pummelled in the mosh and pummelled in the ears when they come crashing into town this month backed by an extra truckload of heavy from their incredible support acts.
FOR FANS OF: YOUR DEMISE / SUICIDE SILENCE / PARKWAY DRIVE
Often described as Northern Island’s answer to Biffy Clyro, this band are gaining recognition left, right and centre. Their particular brand of alternative rock is epitomised through searing riffs and vivacious drum beats accompanied by cutting but often lilting vocals, bringing the sound together in musical perfection. Expect a tight performance, with some killer tunes and guitar mastery.

Teenage-kicks aplenty
This band need little to no introduction. Making their name in the late 70s, their brand of punk made them a household name, despite their split in the early 80s. The Undertones have still got it, and they’ve got it in shedloads. Their live shows are just as raucous as ever and the music we know and love from them isn’t a far flung cry from how it originally sounded.

Melodic singer-songwriter with a heart
This singer-songwriter from Oxford is on his 4th EP and landed himself a record deal with Warner Bros., an impressive accolade for a lad who’s been playing guitar for just 6 years. His voice is Sheeran-esque in a complimentary way, although his sound is perhaps a little more melancholy and macabre. His records are beautiful in its simplicity. His live set is stirring and stunning. FOR FANS OF: CITY AND COLOUR / KODALINE / ED SHEERAN

Forceful metal with a bite, does what it says on the tin As behemonths of thrash metal, you should have heard of Dragonforce. Sometimes called ‘Nintendo metal’ their music takes influence from many 90s consoles and games, with arpeggios sounding almost ‘bleepy’. With impossibly hard melodies ‘Through the Fire & Flames’ is widely perceived as one of the most difficult on GuitarHero. Would you want to miss this face-meltingly awesome show?
OCT 01 | JOINERS FOR FANS OF: FREEDOM CALL / DRAGONLAND / HAMMERFALL Monsters of the thrash metal genre CHIMAIRA With 7 albums, Chimaira have an extensive and impressive back catalogue, with thrashing guitars and blazing vocals that are sure to strike a chord with metalheads and rockers alike. Despite the numerous line-up changes since formation in the late 90s, their brand of thrash metal has endured and fans can expect a performance just as intense and insane as they have ever been.

2014 looks set to be another stellar year in the meteoric rise of Band of Skulls. Already announced for Sonisphere, Reading and Glastonbury, we’re sure we’re not alone in our excitement for their triumphant return to their hometown . Their sexy, bluesy alt-rock sounds layer chugging guitar riffs with simple yet searing vocals to give the whole combination a slightly grubby tone, just on the right side of filthy.

The gift of music should be available to everyone, we hope to give that gift to as many people as we can. And how is the Kickstarter campaign going? We are on £6,508 as of the 14th of April, the Campaign ends May 5th and our target is £30,000, to have 50 backers think enough of our idea to pledge £6,508 of their money is amazing and we are very grateful. We have booked quite a few gigs over the next month leading up to the Kickstarter campaign ending, we hope to a few more backers get on board and we’ll celebrate either way when the campaign ends.
Maybe Neverland are a band on a mission. A mission to tour the world and share their music with…well, with just about everyone. “The purpose of this campaign is not only to raise funds but to create a lasting community of fans and supporters on a global scale” says frontman Ransford Laryea. It all began in the summer of 2013 with a 60 day tour comprised of 50 shows. The movement was sparked by the phrase, “dreams are only dreams if all you do is dream”, coined by Laryea. The D.I.Y Team is using the online crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter, to raise £30,000 by May 5th in order to finance the D.I.Y Tour, which will continue this year throughout the UK and be followed by the Global Tour in 2015. It’s an ambitious and optimistic approach but certainly one endearing them to music lovers and fans. The pledges for The D.I.Y Tour are no risk – they’re only paid when the campaign comes to an end, and only if fully funded, so if the goal is not reached by the prescribed date, backers will never be charged. But who are Maybe Neverland? And why should we all get involved? We had the chance to chat to Ransford Laryea recently and delve deeper into his enthusiasm for all things music. Here’s what he had to say… Hi, who are you and who does what in your band? We are Maybe Neverland! D - Lead Vocals and Acoustic Guitar. Ran - Lead Vocals. Benny - Lead Electric Guitar. Lee - Bass Guitar. Brett – Drums. If you had to describe your sound in three words what would they be? Indie! Soul! Hip-Hop! How did you guys meet? We met at a gig. Lee and Benny were playing for another band, we met them in the green room at the Cellar in Southampton. D, Brett and I (Ran) talked about Maybe Neverland’s mission and said we needed a bass player and lead guitarist. The next day Lee and Benny were in, and Maybe Neverland was a band. What made you first decide to start making music? Every story is different, mine is simple, I love the power of music and how it transcends everything. When I met D, I decided there and then that whatever happened next had to include him. We spent half a year doing acoustic gigs, open mics, festivals and decided that we wanted to be a team and a band, between us we have written hundreds of songs and made it our mission to eventually put out timeless music. You’re working on a pretty big pledge campaign at the moment – what made you decide to go for a full on world tour? As a band we pride ourselves on delivering the best to our growing fan base, we want to be known for delivering truly innovative songs, albums, visuals, tours and projects, we want to make history! A do-it-yourself world tour in the manner we are planning is unique and we hope people talk about it for a long time.
SOUTHAMPTON MUSIC | MAY 2014
What kind of things are people pledging for? People can pledge as little as £1 to as much as £5,000. You can choose a reward or pledge only to support. Rewards for pledging include, a deluxe version of our EP for £10, which coincidentally is only available on Kickstarter (Only available until May 5th), pledge for music from other artists including Charley Macaulay, 13TH Floor and more, paintings from Edie Lawrence, personal song writing sessions from D and I, signed instruments from the band, tickets to our gigs and festivals, opportunities for us to play live wherever the pledgers like (in their living rooms, gardens, bedrooms, anywhere), pledges from schools will give rewards including Maybe Neverland performing in school assemblies, you can find so many more rewards on our Kickstarter page Do you know where you’re headed if you make it onto the world tour? Yes, it is a completely independent tour, I have been planning this tour for over a year with a very small team and Maybe Neverland will ‘give it a spin’ in 2015. 35 Countries from the United States to Canada, West Africa to Western Europe, East Asia to Eastern Europe, Australia to South America, The Kickstarter campaign helps us, the help from friends, family and fans will help us massively, however, we are hard working, super determined independent creatives, we will see the world in 2015 and give the gift of music whatever happens with the campaign. Who do you guys like to listen to? Maybe Neverland of course, Paolo Nutini, The 1975, Frank Ocean What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to? The biggest gigs we have played as a band have probably been our first two gigs. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to deliver something to our friends, family and fans beyond their expectations. We played 12 brand new songs, sold all the tickets ourselves and had a visual presentation playing on screens throughout both evenings. The best gig I have ever been to is Alabama Shakes in New York City, Lead Singer and Guitarist Brittany Howard is unbelievable. Tell us why we should come check you out live… Honestly, Maybe Neverland are Indie, Rock, Hip Hop, R’n’B, Soul and Reggae, we don’t pretend to be any of the above, it’s just who we are and we are proud to not stick to a genre. Come and watch us play live because to explain our passion and love for music over words in an interview is impossible. Our songs are cool, but our performance is worth leaving your house, getting in your car and paying a bit of money on the door for.
