Personal Essay This school year has been one of the oddest years I have ever experienced. All I know is that this year has helped me grow tremendously in many different classes. Especially in my Intro to Journalism class. In this class, I learned things that I never knew I would get the opportunity to learn. For example, InDesign, an application to form layouts. Learning to use this application has allowed me to discover something that I truly enjoy, and hope to do more of in the future. The skills I learned in this class have and will help me tremendously throughout everyday life. Writing has always been an area I’ve struggled with for a long time. There has been lots of confusion going from teacher to teacher trying to figure out what’s wrong and what’s right. Thanks to this class, I have been able to finally clarify these questions and concerns. Writing is a crucial skill to have in life not only to get into the top colleges, but also for future careers and opportunities. Although I am still undecided as to what career path I want to take, designing layouts and knowing how to use photoshop is always something that I will enjoy and come back to. Even if my profession doesn’t require this ability, I still see myself making photo collages for not only myself, but for friends as a way to relax and destress. Not only use it as a way to destress, but also for marketing, if that is something I’m interested in. Photography is also a very important skill to have in this modern world. With social media putting pressure for the perfect photo of everyday life, some skills need to come in handy. Learning rules like, rule of thirds, leading lines, ect. has helped me improve my pictures, and get great feedback from them. This class has helped me in so many ways. This class not only taught me new skills, but also to come out of my shell. I hope that next year, if my schedule aligns, I will be able to take this class again, and take what I’ve learned to the next level.
Reflection In my Intro to Journalism class, we’ve worked on many peices. Some great some poor. But my favorite peice I’ve done this year is a layout done for the Literary Magazine this year, Threads. The spread is called, “The Question” as it is the name of the poem that was paired and layed out with a beautiful digital painting by Jessica Si. This is a layout I designed for the Literary Magazine, and I’m proud to call it mine. My favorite photo taken is one of a reflection of me taking a picture of a window showing the reflection. I love this picture because it shows what I’m doing, and what I’ve learned. The colors all work really well, and it’s a picture that I am truly proud of. My favorite writing peice is one of Hansel and Gretel. It was creative writing, which is what I enjoy most. I loved making up the story and making a news report.
