ESSAYS Student Life
After going from class to class for 6 hours, stUDents get tired just as much as teachers probably do as well. Now, although it's understandable that school is for kids to learn and get an education, there are times it gets overwhelming. There are at least 2 test each week, at least 1 hour of homework and as the years go by, the amount of work you have increases. Students come home from a long day of schools being really tired and now they're forced to do another 2 hours of work. It doesn't give enough time to be with your family, go online and just enjoy the time you have out of school. Research says that 55.5 PRECENT of students play a sport which helps get their mind off of other things including schoolwork and other things that might be going on in their life. This is just one of the many possibilities to help better our time. In conclusion, there should be less amount of work for students or teachers should just give them time during class to complete homework since there already is so much more to do at home.
PERSONAL ESSAY This year I was new to highschool, new to Miami and new to Gulliver. I knew that taking this class would be hard since I've never done something similar. There is a lot of hard work that needs to go into Journalism. A lot of writing, photography, design and staying after school. The first week in this classroom, we took a look into the topics for the year. It started with writing articles and essays about personal pieces or assigned pieces. Then, the class moved into photography. Going around school taking pictures that followed the right format. After that, Ms. Rodrigues introduces us to InDesign and Photoshop. Our first task with those applications was doing a layout about yourself so we got used to the tools. All three of those topics that took most of the year to work on was to get us ready for the final project, the Litmag. Each person in the classroom had their on job inorder to finish and get this magazine ready. We had to get pictures from art students, articles from the english department and then lay it all out on InDesign. If a piece didn't match with a good writing piece, that's where we would come in and share our work. If it's good enough, it made it in. Overall, I would recommend Into to Journalism to everyone. Even if you don't want to be a Journalist, everything I've learned in this class, I know that I will use forever in the future with collage and the job that I have.
REFLECTION I took this picture of my friedns Bella Peterson during class while we were practicing photography. The format of it follows the rules for "Fill the Frame". To Fill the Frame means to get close until the subject Takes up the majority of the frame. In this picure the light is hitting her from the rught whihc causes shadows and Bella's face. I feel that, that bubg more meaning to the photo. The way the wind is flying her hair aslo makes thi picure more livly.
CLIPS WRITIING Being in a new environment full of people you have never even seen before could be really hard for someone to go through. This is why Gulliver had organized a Sleepover for the freshmen this year. Sure, the idea sounds good, new kids getting to make friends for the first day and students from the Academy seeing their friends after the summer‌ However, in my opinion it didn't go as planned. That day, I've been really nervous and when I walked in the gym I noticed two things. First one, being the the noisy big crowds of people who had already known each other talking The second were the students standing all alone on with their back against the walls probably not wanting to be here. It was clear to tell who was new and who wasn't. Although I wasn't really effected by this, there were some kids who had been alone for the whole two days which is why I think that Gulliver could improve the orientation by for example, making a day only for the new students and the second with everyone. This way, instead of staying by ourselves, we could make a few friends to not be alone later on.
