Taking journalism this year has turned out to be one of the things I enjoyed the most about my academic year. At the beginning of the year when I started this class, I already had an idea of what I was going to do in the class for the year because I had been taking journalism since seventh grade so it was going to be my third year taking it. I really enjoyed everything that I accomplished and did this academic year. Before this course started, I had only been used to working on the software of walsworth because that is what we used to make the yearbook in middle school, but in high school a different software is used, in design. I didn’t even know what in design was. Throughout the year as I used the software, I started learning more and more about it and now I feel as if I can complete anything on that software. I learned how to make very interesting and collaborative designs and spreadsheets as well as learn how to photoshop which is a skill I did not previously have. My design skills have continued to progress and I will for sure continue to take journalism for the rest of my high school years. With all the practice of learning how to make perfect yearbook layouts and how to make it interactive and not only simple was extremely interesting. It’s crazy to think that in just a year I learned how to master in design and become more creative as a person. This class definitely allowed me to always be thinking outside of the box and to work better with others, as well as to learn how to manage time wisely. Being part of the yearbook committee takes a lot of responsibility so I have felt very proud for taking this class and accomplishing all these things. I have grown so much as a writer, photographer, and designer this year taking this class. Since this class requires a lot of writing and learning how to be an accurate journalist, I have learned how to write in a unique way which has also helped me improve my writing for other classes which has been extremely helpful. Furthermore, taking pictures was also a big part of this class. I improved my photography skills immensely this year by learning how to take pictures with certain angles and being able to focus on certain aspects while taking pictures. I even won an FSPA first place award of taking a picture which shows I improved how to take pictures at a whole other level. On the other hand, my design aspects have also improved and I feel as if I truly mastered the art of learning how to design. I believe that having all these skills will also allow me to succeed in the future. These are very important factors that I have that can help me with future projects or even jobs. I am very happy that I ended up taking this course because I was able to learn how to do so many things that I had never tried before or wouldn’t think that I would be good at.

This photography piece that I am the most proud of is this one because it won an FSPA first place award. This demonstrates the most growth because it shows how much I improved in using photography this school year. This piece is important to me because it was taken in a convention where students from schools all over Florida gathered in Orlando and had only ten hours to capture the perfect picture following the guidelines. After taking many pictures that day, I finally chose this one and it won first place out of hundreds of students in my category. I am extremely proud of myself for winning the FSPA award for this picture.

Writing Tortoise and the Hare: The racing world suffered an upset last night when favored runner, Harry Hare lost to Timmy the Tortoise by a whole ten minutes. Harry always thought he was an amazing runner and always won. Timmy the Tortoise challenged Harry to a race and Harry immediately accepted his challenge knowing he could win. “My! A race Mr. Timmy, we shall race!” said Harry the Hare. News spread quickly and animals in the Woodlands were talking about this special race that was going to occur. “We all can’t to see Harry run another impressive race”, said Woody Wolf. The animals mapped out the course and the race begun. Harry quickly took the lead by leaving Timmy far behind. Harry realized that when he was already half way done with the race, he had plenty of time to beat Timmy. “I have plenty of time to play in the meadow here,” said Harry. There was still no sight of Timmy anywhere so he knew that he could take a quick nap before getting back on his feet. “I have plenty of time to beat Timmy,” he thought. He laid against a tree and slept away. Timmy continued his way through the course without stopping. He became very tired but knew that he had to finish. Timmy was not sure how far into the race Harry was but he knew he couldn’t stop. “I must not give up because great things do take time and I must strive for hard work,” said Timmy. Harry awakened from his slumber and quickly stood up continuing his race faster than ever. “Time to get going because Timmy is not that far behind,” said Harry. He went running as fast as he could to try to make it to the end as quickly as possible. He made it to the end where he met the tortoise, who was patiently awaiting his arrival. Harry started to get anxious because he could not believe that he lost. “Slow and steady always wins the race Mr. Harry, maybe you should learn that for your next race.” said Timmy the tortoise.
Writing A New Way to Detect Breast Cancer: According to a New York Times article, a computer engineer has found a way to detect breast cancer without radiation. Breast cancer is very common all over the world and many people in countries such as India, do not have the opportunity to be checked out by a doctor to test if they have breast cancer or not. Engineers took the problem into action and tried to find a solution to a way where breast cancer could be detected without radiation in a very limited amount of time. They successfully planned it out and created a device that was portable and battery operated as well as affordable and painless. Engineers Mr. Shah and Matthew Campisi used technology to develop the iBreatExam which is a battery operated wire lss machine that is able to record variations in breast elasticity. It only takes about five minutes to do and the data is recorded by a mobile device. Furthermore, I would like to agree upon the fact that this held hand device is helping thousands of people in not so fortunate countries. I think that the engineers saw a problem that many women all over the world were being diagnosed with breast cancer each year and if they do not take care of it, vital things such as death may occur which is why the engineers wanted to help out these women with breast cancer. What they created has been helping many women in India and is improving people’s health. Originally, most women in India did not have the money to pay for a radiation scan that would depict if they had cancer or not which is jeopardizing their lives because they would never get the chance to know if they had the illness or not. After this device was created, they were able to know if they were safe from it or not at a very affordable price. This device has not yet been brought to the United States, but the engineers are trying to bring it in because the United States is also filled with people that are not able to pay for the radiation scan. I think that this whole project the engineers designed has been marvelous and impactful to women all over the world. Mr Shah said. “Innovation is only as good as its reach.
