• The zig-zag roof provides a short cut path for pedestrians to access UNL city campus from the site easier. • The special shape also works as water collecting system and uses it as water supply for the outdoor gathering space. • The zig-zag roof also gathers waste water from the bridge and site then recycles and reuses it for the outdoor gathering plaza. AGORAPHOBIA ARCHITECTURE Urban Agoraphobia The intent of the project is to use gardening and cooking as therapies to help the agoraphobic deal with the fear of big open spaces and interacting with the public. The personal greenhouse works as an agoraphobic therapy for people who are struggling with the disease. The community greenhouse provides a public space for people who want to do gardening as their hobby after the healing process.

• Located in the Hay-market area which is a historical and developing part of the town. • This area is surrounded by other residential areas with high population. • There is a Farmers market event every Saturday in the summer to support the Agricultural part of Nebraska. • The event is a good opportunity to develop the community bond. People come to the event to get fresh, organic products and also to support the small local businesses • It is a 5 minutes walk from the site to the Farmers market. • Since the site is surrounded by Interstate I-180, R Street, and 8 street, occupants usually stick to areas surrounding the building so they can feel safe and stay away from the busy traffic. • Agoraphobic people feel uncomfortable when they have to be alone in a broad open space or in public. As the result, they will try to walk close to the buildings and use alleys to access the site in order to avoid the public and open space.

HEALTHCARE STUDIO Ankeny Heath Center By applying the concept of Fluid and Dynamic vs. Firm and Stable into the project, we set up the building programs and shape. The fluid side contains the community/doctor wellness areas such as patients’ rooms, employee lounges, chapel, and offices. The firm side holds more stable programs that need prescribed firm and rigid design, including emergency services, outpatient care, and surgery. The use of material, furniture, color, and curved elements in the project helps to communicate the design concept to the occupants when they access the healthcare center

PRODUCT DESIGN Convertible Rocking Bench The rocking bench was a part of my childhood memory, I always loved spending time with my grandma on the rocking bench and listening to her stories before going to bed. I wanted to create a rocking bench that can function as a rocking bench itself, but at the same time can turn into a table that I can work on my projects. The bench’s dimensions are 4’ long, 18” height, and 16” deep. The width is long enough to have 2 people sit on it. Since the rocking bench is outdoor furniture, I used weather shield lumber wood so that it can stand the rough weather. Because of the characteristic of the wood, I have to leave the swing outdoors at least 6 months before I can paint.

CAPSTONE PROJECT The Hub The design goal is to create a place where people can have a relaxing time reading their book within their privacy zone but still able to communicate with others if needed. The Branding comes from the facts below: • People come to the library because they want to have their own place with privacy to enjoy reading books • They also want the chance to get involved with people in their community at the same time The Hub represents private space to individuals but also demonstrates a place where people can gather together to enjoy the books
Section Scale: 1/32”=1’
Transformation is the main concept of “The Hub” because of: • The changing of the Haymarket area at downtown Lincoln from a historical area to the mixture of modern and historical pieces we see nowadays • The influence of technology on people’s reading habit • The changing in size from traditional libraries to compact libraries
