food production, availability, accessibility and affordability of foods amid the pandemic. Led by Dir. Vivencio Mamaril, five other experts shared their knowledge in urban gardening and hydrophonics, choosing the right soil and fertilizers, safe gardening, among others to ensure production of safe and healthy food. According to experts, urban gardening is the answer for city dwellers who may not have big spaces for gardening, but have several empty containers where they can plant vegetables without much effort. These assures fresh and cheap but nutritious food on the table. Urban gardening also offers a form of exercise aside from it being an environmental-friendly family bonding opportunity. DA fully supports this project thru the Bureau of Plant Industry and the Agricultural Training Institute by providing seeds and technical assistance to interested individuals and community organizations. Nuclear energy is the best option

By Vanessa Rodriguez (PIA-IDPD) QUEZON CITY, Aug 19 (PIA) – The Department of Science and TechnologyPhilippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI) highlights the importance of the inclusion of the use of nuclear energy in the current energy mix that the country utilizes to pave way for more efficient and less cost energy. Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla, DOSTPNRI Director, emphasized that nuclear energy is the best option for the country’s longterm plans for more

affordable power generation. Also, nuclear energy does not require the high cost of refueling fossil fuels that coal and natural gas have. More importantly, nuclear energy does not emit carbon that contributes to climate change. “Nuclear (energy) is simply the cleanest, cheapest and most efficient means of producing electricity. power plant in operation. As compared to other major energy sources (coal, oil, natural gas, solar and wind), the number of deaths from accidents is one of the lowest (in nuclear power

plants). The DOST-PNRI is currently pushing for the enactment of the Comprehensive Atomic Regulatory Act which will create an independent nuclear regulatory body in the Philippines.
