Introduction Hello Key Clubbers! Happy March! With the start of March comes lots of rain and the grind of preparation for AP tests, but remember to take some time for yourself, and some time to do service as well! Our Platinum term is quickly ending, in 30 days at DCON! We’ve accomplished so much in this month, and entire term as well. Remember to send lots of love to the seniors as they end their year of hard work! With a new year, will come new opportunities. Bee on the lookout for our upcoming leadership workshop, as well as board applications that will be released in the month! You all have so much potential bundled up inside you guys, and I can’t wait to be able to work with and get to know all of you! Remember to take all the opportunities you can do volunteer and do service, and help us reach our final goal of 9500 hours! We’re so close, and we can do it! Stay motivated and I know you guys will make it through the hard times of school leading up to AP testing. Good luck, and keep serving! Flying with Service,

~Megan Luong PHHS President Elect 2017-2018

“What cheers you up?”

Being around friends and laughing always cheers me up. Whether it's laughing at memes or making weird faces at each other. Especially at volunteer events early in the morning when everyone is tired, just being around my friends will put me in a good mood. Also, my cat cheers me up. I just have to mention her because even though she will sleep on all of my clean clothes and randomly curl up on my lap, she cheers me up when I'm feeling down.

Tet Festival (February 11-12, 2017)

Tet Festival is an amazing event where our volunteers not only get to help create a memorable time for the public but also get to experience the Vietnamese Culture and its arts. During the event, we help the organization direct traffic to make sure everyone has a spot and also help out around the various booths to make sure everything was running smoothly. Our volunteers have enjoyed this event immensely in the past as they get to meet new people from different stories and be proud of the huge festival they helped bring to life. ~Yash Tanna (11)

Recaps

InterKey Week + Pajama Jam (February 13-17, 2017)

InterKey Pajama Jam was a unifying and entertaining bonding filled with food, games, and a movie! We all got to know our fellow members a little better in this Monsters University themed event. ~Nicole Chen (9)

Cinequest (March 5+12, 2017)

On the   evening of March 5th, our Key Clubbers volunteered at the Cinequest Film Festival, helping as ticket scanners, promoting the survey box, and aiding guests with VR (virtual reality) gear. It was a great experience being able to see so many famous actors, helping the friendly guests have a great time, and socializing with newer members! I’d definitely recommend attending/volunteering again in the future at Cinequest! ~Diana Quach (11)

Come to the Key to Success Workshop (Another One edition) on March 10 from 3:15 to 5:30 PM! We are teaching leadership and social skills for those sick college applications and anxiety issues! This workshop will give you keys to open doors, and as DJ Khaled once said, "You can never run out of keys"! ~Hansel Vu (11)

Upcoming Heart and Soles 5k (March 25, 2017)

Heart & Soles is a great charitable run around Avaya Stadium. Volunteers on the course will be in charge of keeping spirits high and passing out water to the runners! It's a great way to help make an impact on our community, because all proceeds go to equipping communities and schools with AEDs and to promoting healthy hearts! ~Kenneth Lien (10)

Hellyer Half Marathon 5k-10k (March 26, 2017)

Hey Key Clubbers! I am currently taking sign ups for the Hellyer 5K/10K run! Or club volunteers at this event annually and many of our members who had previously attended stated that they enjoyed helping out at this event. We'll be doing registration, course monitoring, water stations, and so much more! Hope to see you all there! ~Vincent Mac (12)

San Jose Color Run: Good Vibes (March 26, 2017)

A great local event in the San Jose-Milpitas community, dozens of our volunteers come to help out the Color Vibe Run. Because there are so many volunteers they all meet new people and forge new friendships while giving back to the community. The Color Vibe is also one of the most exciting volunteer events as not only do we help to cheer on runners, we also help to create huge explosions of color making the day even better! This event is loved by volunteers and has definitely created memories for everyone involved. ~Yash Tanna (11)

2017-2018 Executive Board

and the new executive officers are…

VICE PRESIDENT OF SERVICE: Michelle Zhang

Hello, my busy bees! My name is Michelle Zhang, and I am overjoyed to be serving you as your 2017-2018 VP of Service. As a pineapple-loving girl that enjoys binge watching K-dramas, I never thought my Key Club journey would bring me here. I was able to take on new responsibilities and make many precious memories within the past three years, and now I hope to continue meeting new people while making sure our club reaches even greater heights than before. I guess you can say Key Club is my Alice in Wonderland; it is a place filled with a countless number of KEYmazing surprises. During this term, I hope I can make Key Club your Alice in Wonderland as well! See you around!

VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION: Sabrina Huynh

Hello Superheroes! My name is Sabrina Huynh and I’m ecstatic to serve you all as your Vice President of Administration for the 2017-2018 term! I love love LOVE watching the “Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Jane the Virgin,” and basically every single show on the CW, so I am always open to ranting about the new episodes (hehehe), but I also enjoy doing service, especially with Key Club! Key Club has given me a safe home where I was able to grow into the person I am today and I couldn't be more thankful! I love meeting new people so don't be afraid to say hi because I will most likely wave back intensely with a biggest smile ever (hehe). I look forward to serving you all and lets make this one heck of a term!!

SECRETARY: Judy Ng

Hello everyone! My name is Judy Ng, and I am incredibly excited to serve as your 2017-2018 term secretary! Being on board for two years now, I have truly been able to grow and fall in love with Key Club. Therefore, I will work hard to make this term amazing! I will try my absolute best to turn in all paperwork early and to update the roster regularly. Also, of course, I will try to provide opportunities for each of you to mature and become a phenomenal Key Clubber who exhibits all of the four core values, as I promised in my speech. You all are the reason I am here today. I am humbled to be able to serve each of you, and thank you all for giving me this opportunity!

TRESURER: Diana Quach Hello superheroes! I'm Diana Quach, sometimes known as peasant and pinto bean, and I'm super excited to be your 2017-2018 Treasurer! I hope to gain lots of new skills and, at the same time, make all of your experiences amazing. Don't be afraid to approach me, because I want to make tons of BEE-utiful memories with each of you! Let's make the next term, not gold and not platinum, but whatever is above platinum! Can't wait, you awesome Key Clubbers!

District Convention (DCON) Want to meet hundreds of other Key Clubbers from California, Nevada, and Hawaii? Sign up with an Executive officer by January 18th, 2017 and join other Key Clubbers and Alumnus on APRIL 7-9, 2017 at Key Club International DCON at Anaheim! DCON was one of the highlights of my year. Not only did I get to see Sacramento for the first time and stay with friends in a very cozy hotel room, but I also got to see the reason why I got hooked into Key Club in the first place. I got to be with a group of people just as crazy as me. I also learned a lot of things in workshops which also helped me in life such as how to be confidence when talking to new people. My favorite part about DCON is when we went to the board game room, rather than the Governor's Ball because Lucy dabbing was already to intense for us, and I was doing this ridiculous dance that my friend got me to keep doing and a random key clubber came up to me and joined me. I would definitely say to anyone who has an opportunity to attend DCON that they definitely should because you can't say you might not like something if you haven't tried it yet. ~Nikko Timbal (10) I went to DCON last year and it was a super fun experience. I went to workshops to learn about things like how to be professional and gestures to use while speaking in front of an audience. One of my favorite parts of DCON was the end of the day rallies where everyone gathered together and cheered for the new LTGs or listened to the inspirational speaker. I also got to meet up with my old friends that I met through FRN and meet new friends from different divisions in both So-Cal and Nor-Cal. ~Jennifer Lam (11)

The first day of DCON was Spirit Gear Day and I remember seeing this one club where everyone was dressed up as Woody from Toy Story, and every time someone yelled, "Andy's coming!" they would all fall down to the ground. We had seminars practically everyday, and I was expecting them to be boring, but they turned out to be really interesting. I learned about leadership, professionalism, and got to see all the lieutenant governors sing a parody of "A Whole New World," which was pretty awesome. Everyday we would all gather together in a giant room and see performances, get awards, and we had this amazing guest speaker. The Governor's Ball was also pretty cool, but one of the best thing had to be the hotel life. Honk. ~ Rachel Ly (11)

DCON was an amazing experience to have! Spending time with fellow Key Clubbers and meeting new friends was one of my favorite parts of this three day event. Throughout District Convention I was able to see Key Clubbers show off their club spirit, spirit filled cheers, and their love for Key Club. DCON is definitely a must go event for all key clubbers. The experience is unforgettable. ~ Vince Nguyen (12)

Key Club District Convention is one of my favorite events because it's where we celebrate the efforts of all members and officers, cheer our hearts out with our schools and divisions, learn new leadership tactics that can be applied in our future lives, and make memories that last a lifetime! Besides walking on stage to be acknowledged as Distinguished Secretary, the most memorable moment at my first and last DCON was when a Kiwanis member walked on stage, and said "2015-2016 Board, you are now officially retired," and at that moment, I finally realized that my Key Club journey has come to an end and I will forever cherish the moments that came with it. After this moment, all the D12E Key Club members gave the 2016 seniors a group hug and we performed our cheer for the last time, and we never felt so fine, all of the time! To those who haven't, attend DCON because it's a worthwhile experience that will definitely ignite your passion for service and leadership, and build the Keys to your future and opportunity! ~Joshua Ranario (Alumni)

Last year, I attended DCON as a graduating senior and retiring officer, so it was very bittersweet. The last day was especially packed with emotion, and I ended up crying with our club's seniors because after 2 days of DCON, surrounded by open-hearted key clubbers, it was heartbreaking to know we'd leave them behind. Aside from being an emotional roller coaster, DCON is also a very educational experience, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to become an officer, or is one. It's a rewarding event, and I hope all of you get the chance to go at least once! ~ Lucy Thai (Alumni)

See ya there!!
