It's crazy that it's already been a month since school started and I'm so happy Key Club is going strong!! The energy in all of our general meetings have been insane and even though our first general meeting had so many flukes, I'm very glad that you guys have been bearing with me! Overall I can't wait to see what the rest of this term is going to look like and I'm super proud of every one of you for taking the initiative for starting your Key Club journey! Trust me when I say that I will do my best to help ensure that you will have a great year in Key Club and I can't wait to help start this term strong! With FRN and other large events coming up, I hope all of you guys will come and let's make this year a great one!

The Quest for Lawn Bags

KeySF Ruskin Garden Restoration with Stanley Lew

The wonderful day started with me running into some traffic when walking to the garden with a shovel, a rake, snacks, my backpack, etc. Now you may be wondering how there was traffic if I was walking and lived four blocks away...well there just was! This was the first time I stepped foot into the garden in 7 years, so just being on campus was very nostalgic. Our advisors that were present included Ms. Navarro from CSF, Ms. Murray who dropped by to drop off some garden gloves, and Mr. Ector, our Kiwanis advisor! Everything was going great with groups of volunteers yanking up weeds, raking up leaves, and breaking up the soil except when we ran out of lawn bags :D So obviously, we had to ask Andrew if he could drive over to Target to pick up some lawn bags. To which, he ended up taking over an hour to drive to target and pick up lawn bags..and didn't bring back Starbucks for us... (I wonder what he was doing HMMM) While Andrew was gone, I would aid in digging and bringing water to other diggers (Kerry dug an almost two feet hole to get rid of a weed and still couldn't get the root out). After Andrew got back, we actually ended up bagging over 10 bags of leaves. Although we didn't finish breaking up the dirt, the team got a lot of work done and I'm really proud of everyone that showed up. I hope to see mostly everyone again on our gardening days!

ALong Day in a Dog Park

Bark in the Park with Thomas Tran

Jackie had been planning this event from way back in August, and I decided to go since it was another one of our few events where it was possible to get an insane amount of hours. And so, on an early Saturday morning, I arrived at the event and signed in. I was the only one who had actually signed up for the early shifts in the morning so it was just me working alone which was actually kind of nice and relaxing. All the volunteers stood around and waited as the people working at the huge dog park called us to different areas to help with setting up their booths. There was a lot of downtime in between the jobs because there were way too many volunteers and too few tasks so I spent a lot of the time just exploring the huge dog park. One of the jobs I ended up doing was taping the many different entrances to the dog park so that people weren't able to come in early and then afterward I helped set up fencing around sheep which were going to be used to teach dogs how to herd sheep. These menial tasks continued for the whole event and the event ended as I explored the dog park one last time after everything had been set up and the dog owners were let in. All the dogs were really cute and unique and I really hope that another event like this takes place in the years to come as well!

AVery Balala! Experience

Class of 2024 Movie Night with

Chao-Chi Yang

For the very first movie night hosted on campus this school year, class of 2024 showcased Big Hero 6! To begin with, we were trying to cover the lights outside the big gym to make sure the surroundings wouldn't be too bright for the projector to work on the big screen. We had Subeg risk his life by climbing a table to cover the lights with black plastic. We ended up only covering the center light since the lights were still too high up and it wasn't really safe to rely on a plastic table. Next, we had to get the inflatable screen up before the movie night. It was twisted up when we opened the bag so after a few turns we finally got it to be set up properly. I went to sell tickets while Andrew and Trinity were helping out with the concessions stand. There was pizza being sold along with water and chips. Selling tickets were pretty chill since most people had already purchased their tickets. Some bought tickets at the door, which meant more profits. ANYWAYS, the movie was kind of delayed.. for about an hour.. since we were still setting up the projector with the tech commissioner Charlie and we were still waiting for the sun to go down. I'd say setting up was the main part of this event, along with selling concessions during the event. It was pretty chill and relaxing as we got to see the movie while chilling at the concession stand!

Volleyball Volunteering

Volleyball

Snack Shack

with Derek Sueyoshi

This year, Key Club and CSF worked together to gather volunteers to help work at the snack shack for each home game. The stand was open from the freshman game to varsity and was a huge hit among the fans! The volunteers had a lot of fun watching the game while also supporting the girl’s volleyball program! Everyone was very friendly and the spectators were also very kind towards the workers. The money from the snack shack is a big source of income for the program which helps fund future events and equipment. Also, a big shout out to the players and parents that provided the food for every game! Without them, this whole thing wouldn’t be possible. As a member of the boy’s volleyball team, I’m super stoked that I was able to support them and give back to the volleyball program which has done so much for so many people, including myself. Each and every game was super exciting and I’m glad I could be a part of it! Last but not least, I would like to thank the coaches for hosting such a wonderful event!

Fall Rally North Prep! September DCM with Catherine Do

This month's DCM took place at Sandalwood Park in Milpitas. The DCM started off with club updates and the announcement of which club has the most points. Piedmont Hills was first place as we should be!! Led by the spirit coordinators, we practiced a few cheers in preparation for FRN. To practice competing against the other divisions, we were split up into 2 groups. Our service activity to conclude the DCM was to create a card with encouraging messages for children in the hospital. Once again, we drew minions as well as other little drawings inside of the card. We included supportive messages that will hopefully brighten up anyone who receives our cards! This DCM was yet another success and a great way to prepare for October.

Plenty of Fun

Wellness Fair with Katelyn Nguyen

This year is the second year that Piedmont Hills High School hosted a Wellness Fair. Led by CSF, the Wellness Fair is an event in which all the clubs are provided a chance to host an activity for the students on campus. Activities can range from petting dogs, making bracelets, and making stress balls. It was held on a warm Friday with an extended lunch schedule. Students have the opportunity of walking around Sophomore Hill and explore what the clubs had to offer this year. There were so many more clubs than I was expecting! There were a bunch of new clubs this year as well. Clubs had stress balls made out of balloons and rice. Some clubs were making bracelets and bookmarks which were super cute. One booth was handing out candy, otter pops, and much more. Another booth had slime and many other things as well. This year, Key Club decided to do key chains. Members were able to write affirmations on the key chain and hang it on their backpacks as a positive reminder and reinforcement. It was a big hit this year and lots of the members enjoyed drawing and writing on the key chains!

Media Director's Notes

FINALLY! Sorry this took so long, but we finally got the September Newsletter out! Even though it’s super late, hopefully you guys still enjoy it. Anyways, space is really cool. A space dog is even cooler. A space dog traveling through space on a smiling asteroid? Now THAT’s the coolest :D Make sure to pay your dues!

And.. Finished! Thank you guys for the incredible amount of patience in waiting for this to be finished :D I hope you had fun with Mini Club Day and the Wellness Fair, and had gone to several of our general meetings! Remember to keep volunteering in service events. I am really excited for FRN next month so be on the lookout for that :0 One more month until Homecoming and I am indeed very excited!! Can't wait to see the murals, skit, powderpuff games, and definitely the dance! Have a restful month guys :)
