Welcome to the month of March! I hope you all had an amazing winter break and got all the rest you deserve. With all the new concerns with the coronavirus, please be sure to be safe! Wash your hands frequently and take care of yourself. Lots of things happened this month with our iTea Fundraiser, our mochi grams sale, and all of our volunteer events. Thank you to all of you who attended our events or supported our fundraisers! It is because of you that we are able to make such a big impact on our community and the charities that we support. In this upcoming month there is lots to look forward to as well! With the end of the term creeping up, new officers are going to be elected :OO That means that I will have a new child LOL I hope you guys are all as excited as I am to see who will be the future leaders of our club

from the Treasurer

Hello Superheroes!

Lastly, thank you for all your hardwork and dedication to this club! This term has been full of surprises but it is definitely one for the history books. It has been an amazing term full of successes and it was all because of YOU <3 Soaring with service, Emily Vu 2019 - 2020 Treasurer

ANGELA LI Even though Angela is a senior, she still has a lot of motivation to volunteer and participate in Key Club activities! She has attended many events these past months and even our meetings. Angela also isn’t afraid to step outside of her comfort zone and interact with others. We’re super happy to see all of her involvement in the club, and we can’t wait to see how the rest of her Key Club journey plays out! 4

408k Race to the Row

During the month of February, I had the pleasure of attending 408k race to row! In this event, volunteers were split up into groups to help out at different locations of the race. For me, my station was at the finish line where we had the task of assembling goodie bags. I had definitely underestimated how hectic the station would be when it came time to pass them out to those who had just finished the race! In the end, we finished before the shift officially ended and I thought it was an extremely rewarding experience. It was especially nice to see the runners’ faces light up as they were greeted with the sight of free snacks in each goodie bag! I definitely would attend this event again and recommend others to as well.

by Ann Chung In February, I was able to lead Bare Roots for three days! In these three days, we learned a lot about plants. On the first and second days, we helped mix various ingredients in soil to make a good soil base for plants. We also learned how to properly transfer small plant bases into larger pots. On the third day, we were able to help weed the garden where bare roots will be planted. These three days were very fun and I would definitely go again if I had the chance!

muddy dash

by by Steven Steven Tran Tran

During the month of February, I was fortunate enough to OIC for the Muddy Dash where we were assigned at a water station to hydrate the runners. We got free shirts but it was very exhausting to keep refilling the water cups. However, it was a very fun experience as I got to catch up with some old friends outside of Piedmont and also in the bubble pit near the end of the event! 9

Ruskin Ruskin STEM STEM Night Night This February, I got the opportunity to attend and help out at Ruskin's STEM Night. The event was set up with multiple booths all related in some way to STEM. Volunteers were each staffed at these booths and we helped guide children through various activities. At my booth in particular, we helped the students make sailboats with styrofoam, toothpicks, skewers, and some paper. They could assemble the boats in any way that they wanted as long as it could float, and I really enjoyed seeing all the students get so creative and imaginative given the supplies. After we finished helping them assemble the sailboats, they could go and race each other, and all the children really seemed to enjoy it! Near the end of the event, we had started to run out of supplies, so it was especially interesting to see everyone start coming up with other ways to make the sailboats float. I thought it was very enjoyable to have been able to help the children learn a little more about STEM while exploring their creative sides, and I would definitely recommend this event to others!

During the month of February, one of the events that I volunteered at was Ruskin Stem Night. During the event, volunteers helped at various experiment stations, like the static electricity station or the VR station. I was at the boat station where we helped kids design boats out of foam, toothpicks, and paper. They were able to test their boat to see if it could float and after they could race their boat against another person! It was pretty cool to see how creative the kids got especially when we started to run low on supplies. During the event, I got to interact with a lot of kids and other members which was really cool. I went to Ruskin, so it was cool to go back and not only help the school but to also see how much had changed at the school. One bonus of this event was that we got food too! Overall, this was a really fun event and I hope that there are more opportunities to volunteer at Ruskin.
