FROM THE

President

JUDY NG

Hello Piedmont Hills Key Club! Happy April — our last month of the term! First of all, I want to say that it was truly an honor to serve as your president for this past term; it’s an experience I will never forget. This month, as it is both the last month of the 2018-2019 term and the first one of the 2019-2020 term, I hope everyone tries to find some time over the weekend to attend a service event to both end & start the terms strong! Aside from Key Club, good luck to everyone taking AP exams in the next month — make sure to start studying early! There’s also less than two months left in the school year until summer. Keep pushing through all the stress of school! Additionally, to my fellow seniors, I hope each of you got into the college of your dreams, but if not, where you do end up going may be the dream you never knew about. Again, I’d like to say thank you for being a part of Key Club, and for making my last year in Key Club such a memorable one. Each of you hold a special place in my heart. Soaring with Service, Judy Ng Piedmont Hills Key Club President 2018-2019

PRESIDENT-ELECT KATHY TON FOR THE 2019-2020 TERM Hello, Heroes! My name is Kathy Ton and I am beyond thrilled to be serving all of you as your 2019-2020 Key Club President! If you had told me in my freshman year that I would one day take on such a huge role, I probably wouldn't have believed you, knowing how shy and not-confident I was. However, throughout my years as a general member, project director, and treasurer, I have been incredibly fortunate to learn and grow as a person with all of the incredible experiences Key Club has given me. From the many hours spent volunteering to all of the money I've counted out, I've found a passion for a club I consider my second family. I truly hope that for the rest of this term AND for the next term all of you find that Key Club passion within you and take these opportunities to grow as well. One of my favorite things about Key has been the welcoming-family vibe, and I can't wait to give you guys the support to become the amazing people I know you are! Finally, you're always welcome to talk to me! I love meeting new members, and I promise I'm not that scary. I'm honored to be able to work with all of you in this upcoming term, and I'm incredibly excited to see all of the amazing things we'll accomplish! (mucho love <3)

secretary

Bonjour Superheros! My name is Chris Abe and I am very excited to have the opportunity to be serving you as your next secretary for the 2019-2020 term! Some quick things about me: I am an avid fan of the 49ers, I like anime (Your Lie in April probably being my favorite), I LOVE TO RUN, and I enjoy rap (Eminem!). I have grown immensely because of Key, whether that be leadership wise or confidence wise. I have seen a lot of what Key has to offer for everyone and I truly want to work hard so that you can get that same amazing experience out of being in Key. One of my favorite quotes of all time is that “The only thing that is in your control is effort; that is all and that is everything”. I promise to put 100% effort into this term and I am extremely grateful for all of you who have helped give me the chance to serve you. Together we can make this term truly special!

Event Recap

HEART AND SOLES MARCH 23, 2019 In the month of March, I was able to attend Heart and Soles! I attended Heart and Soles last year and I had such a great time that I went again this year! Although I had to wake up very, very early for this event, I can safely say that it was definitely worth it in the end. Like last year, I was assigned to be a course monitor. I was to guide the runners in the right direction and make sure that they didn't get lost on the course. Many of the races that I've volunteered at before made the course monitors simply stand there and point directions, but in this race, I got to encourage the runners with a lot of clapping and a lot of cheering! Being with my friends on the course made the cheering part a lot less awkward and it was rewarding seeing the runners perk up whenever they heard us cheering them on. I think one of the things that makes me continue to be excited for races is that I am able to encourage the runners to run just a bit faster and to help them out on the race. It takes a lot to be able to run a 5k/10k so early in the morning and I’m happy that I may have made it easier for some of the runners in the race! Annabelle Tran

Event Recap

KEY TO SUCCESS MARCH 24, 2019 In March, I got the opportunity to be able to lead a workshop at Key to Success 2019. The workshop I coled with Jerry Xu was Communications and Confidence. We worked together to make the slideshow presentation and tried to include as much information as we could to be able to teach interested members how they can learn to become more confident and then to communicate their ideas to others. I was excited to see so many members attend and be so willing to learn. The icebreakers, led by Nancy and Tony, were fun and allowed both officers and members to get to know each other better. After Jerry and I presented our slideshow, we gave members an opportunity to participate and practice the tips we had mentioned throughout the presentation with impromptu speeches. I was so glad to see so many step up to participate and everyone did very well! At the end of all the workshops, everyone came back together and learned the "How do you feel?" cheer, which was a great ending to the whole event because it was so unique to just Key Club and our little family. I hope to see everyone next year, even if you aren't planning on running for board, because it's a great way to learn and bond with others! Jasmine Nguyen

Upcoming Event

DISTRICT CONVENTION APRIL 12-14, 2019

District Convention is a large event in which Key Clubbers from California, Nevada, and Hawaii all come together to celebrate the end of the term in a span of three days! There will be workshops, cheers, dances, and more! What sets DCON apart from other Key Club events is how members spend three days and two nights away from home, spending time purely on Key Club!

Club Goals 6997/9500+ HOURS $4200.22/$4200 FOR PTP $1319.08/$1000 FOR MNT

FROM THE

Media Director Hello there, Superheroes! Happy Spring! Besides all the allergies and sickness going around, at least the weather is starting to get warmer. While there weren't as many big volunteer events in the past couple of months, I want to thank you all for continuing to attend volunteer events! Coming up is District Convention, a huge event that celebrates the end of the term and the start of the new one. Aside from all this, I hope you all are continuing to work hard in school. Seniors, don't let senioritis hit you too hard! Juniors, hopefully you're all satisfied with \your SAT score. If not, don't worry! You still got a few chances left. Those with AP classes, make sure to begin preparing for the exams because there's no such thing as starting to study too early! Happy volunteering :) Nicole Chen PHHS Key Club Media Director 2018-2019
