Vice Presiden’ts Note Hey guys! Welcome to the month of love <3 it’s okay if you don’t have a valentine because being single is cooler anyway hehe ^.^ Anyway, the term is coming to an end, and it was definitely a wild ride. We’ve accomplished so much, and it was all because of you, so thank you, heroes! Very recently we had a charity dinner to raise funds for MNT and it was super fun! The performances were super fun to watch, but the games were definitely my favorite part. The “finish the song” game was definitely rigged and Hufflepuff should’ve won but in the end it was really fun and cool to see everyone’s spirit! Also the food was really good HAHA As you guys may know, DCON is coming up next month and that means it’s the end of this term. Being vice president and division news editor has been extremely stressful, but I’ve learned and grown a lot since last year and I’m so grateful for what Key Club has given me. I hope Key Club has also impacted you in some way, shape and form. I really look forward to what the next term holds and I’ll miss the seniors a lot t-t Make sure to give them a farewell and a thank you for everything they’ve done!

Member of the Month

In the past month, Bella demonstrated an increased involvement in our club! Bella had signed up for many events this month, and definitely showed an interest in service. She is always open to attending new events and is unafraid to try new things. Her positive attitude is evident at these events, always ready to work and eager to participate and help out. Bella is a prime example of the core values our club emphasizes, and we are excited to see how she’ll continue to show her passion for service and for the club!

Nursery Workday

from nicole chen

In January, I attended Nursery Workday, where we helped Our City Forest transport potted trees so that they could go through a rotation which helps prevent diseases for the plants. The baby trees were in potted plants, which were very heavy and gave everyone quite the workout! We all had to work together to help lift the potted plants and pull the carts from one area to another. We all worked up a sweat and lifted the plants until our hands were raw and red. However, we did eventually learn to work efficiently as a big group and try to get the carts out of each other’s way. We also helped weeded the plants, which was definitely a lot more relaxing. During this event, I was able to bond with my fellow volunteers, such as listening to and singing songs together as we pulled out weeds. The workers were extremely nice to us and even helped educate us more about gardening. Overall, it was a very satisfactory way to spend a morning! 8

In the month of January one of the events that I attended was the South Bay Islamic Association Community Planting event. At the event, we helped plant multiple trees around the area. The area that we were assigned to plant our tree was kind of tough because we had to remove some other plants and roots in order to make room for the tree. Even though it was tough, it was really satisfying when we were able to step back and look at the tree that we had planted. At the event, we also learned more about trees and why they need to be planted a certain way and why they are so important for the environment. I also got to bond with some members and officers during our breaks and free snacks were provided too! Overall, it was a very fun event I look forward to volunteering more with Our City Forest.

D4 Litter Pick Up

from britney sun

This month, I had the pleasure of attending District 4’s Litter Pickup. Throughout the event, volunteers were tasked with picking up litter around Independence High School’s campus. We divided up into groups of 2-3, with some students holding the trash bag and some with the trash claw. The experience definitely showed me the importance of educating others of courteous behavior, as many individuals would rather throw garbage 6 feet away from the trashcan rather than simply walking it over. Beautifying the campus was a wonderful way to spend the first day of Lunar New Year and I would for sure attend it again!

In the month of January, I attended Conclave, where we elected our next lieutenant governor for the 2020-2021 term. The event included a DCM, mini bonding with handshakes, and the Conclave portion for candidate speeches and caucus, followed by voting for the lieutenant governor. I enjoyed listening to the candidates’ speeches and bonding with other members and officers from other clubs within our division. Everyone at Conclave was very passionate about Key Club and at the end of the event, Piedmont Hills’ very own Emily Vu was named lieutenant governor for Division 12 East! Conclave is a very important event for all divisions, as it is the election of the next term’s leader for the division, and I was honored to have been a part of it!

This month, I went to the collaborative charity dinner by PHHS x IHS x MHS. I think this has been one of the most successful charity dinners I’ve been at, in almost all the aspects. Even though we had some difficulties selling tickets earlier, we ended up having a great turnout. I really enjoyed the amazing performances from the variety of talented students. In addition, the MC’s were amazing, always entertaining, and managed to engage the audience through all the audience games. Deco looked very beautiful and it was great to see everyone take a picture in front of the posters that we had worked so hard on. Of course, the food was one of the highlights of the charity dinner, because the three course meal was filling enough so everyone was content and didn’t leave feeling hungry. All in all, I’m very proud of the three schools and how well the event turned out to be!

To end the month of January, I attended the collaborative charity dinner between Piedmont Hills, Independence, and Milpitas high school! This is the second charity dinner that I have fortunately been able to help plan and attend, and I remember having just as much fun this year as I did in previous years! I was apart of the food committee this year, where we were in charge of deciding what food we were going to serve and how we were going to serve it. I remember waking up at 11am to help prep the food for the charity dinner happening that evening, and I can say this for all of the food committee when I say how much hard work was put into planning the dinner! I am so glad that the charity dinner went so well and I am excited to see what we will do next year!

Editor’s Note Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!! Another month has passed and we are getting closer and closer to the end of the term. It’s truly been an honor to make newsletters for all of you and to serve as one of your media directors this term ;-; That being said, with the end of the term and the end of the year approaching, take this time to appreciate those you have around you, especially the seniors! They have done so much and have spent so much time with us and they deserve our well wishes before they leave. On another note, don’t forget about our goals! We are still striving to reach our hours and Eliminate Project goals and if all of you all participate in our fundraisers and attend service events, I am confident that we can get very close or will accomplish and reach our goals! No matter if you’re single or if you have a significant other today on Valentine’s Day, remember to cherish those you have around you and your loved ones. They have been there with you through thick and thin and they deserve some appreciation! Just a simple thank you is more than enough. As for school, don’t forget to keep working hard to maintain your grades and reach the end of the semester. We are on the final stretch and I know that we can all do it! Buzzing with love,

Jasmine Nguyen PHHS Key Club Media Director
