FROM THE

Secretary JERRY XU Hello spectacular Superheroes! I hope all of you had an amazing and relaxing summer! Now that summer is ending soon, you may be feeling pressure and stress on finishing that summer homework that you procrastinated on, but have no fear! One of the great ways to relieve stress is to go to volunteer events, where you can both help us reach our goal of 9100+ hours and meet new Key Clubbers, make new friends, and form new KEYnections! Speaking of hours, we have accomplished a huge portion of our goal in the past two months. We volunteered in June and July, respectively, 713.5 and 910 hours. We have surpassed over a quarter of our goal thanks to YOUR efforts, so give yourself a pat on the back! Next month brings the beginning of the school year, which means new classes, teachers, and new Key Clubbers joining our ohana. This is the time to go out of your comfort zone and try something new. This is the end of the summer season, but also the start of the fall season, packed with events like Mini Club Day, FRN, and RTC. Hope to see you there! I wish all of you the best of luck in the new school year, and to many more wonderful beginnings! Flying with service, Jerry Xu Piedmont Hills Key Club Secretary, 2018-2019

ROSE LU JUNE

MEMBER

OF

THE

MONTH

Rose Lu was chosen as this month's Member of the Month because of how active she has been in Key Club! Additionally, at these service events she always tries to burst out of her shy bubble by interacting and being friendly with others. She also applied to be an MIC for Relay for Life, so she is taking initiative to learn more about panning events and developing leadership. She has also been helpful with planning the event and participates actively in the chat. Rose also applied to attend Key Club Training Conference even though the day was very hot, and was very positive throughout the day despite the heat! Overall, Rose has been an exemplary Key Clubber. Great job, Rose!

VICTOR BRIAN VO XIE J M UA LY Y M ME EM MB BE ER R O OF F T TH HE E M MO ON NT TH H

His efforts and dedication during Relay for Life is greatly appreciated. Congratulations, Brian!

Event Recap

RELAY FOR LIFE JULY 14-15, 2018 I was engulfed with excitement as I signed up for Relay for Life since it is one of the most major events of Piedmont Hills Key Club. I knew that it will be an unforgettable experience since so many preparations were made. During the event, we walked and even ran around the track, something that I greatly enjoyed. I felt very content because I knew that I did all of this for cancer patients. I am looking forward for this event next year. - Vincent Han

My first Relay for Life was definitely an experience I will always remember! I had a lot of fun walking (and running) with Team Arc Reactor and everyone else at the event. One of my favorite moments was when I participated in a fun race where I raced a bunch of little kids around the track in a boxcar! I was exhausted at the end but I took first place hehe. - Matthew Santos

Event Recap

FOAM GLOW 2018 JULY 7, 2018 Foam Glow 5K was a unique race that was filled with lights, loud music, and foam! It allowed everyone to just have fun at a race and loosen up. I was assigned to a water station throughout the whole event. It was really unexpected at first because I didn't know there would be hundreds and hundreds of people running the race. Although it was difficult trying to give everyone water, I saw a lot of color, laughs, and excitement. Overall, Foam Glow was an amazing event and I look forward to attending next year! - Tony Hong

Upcoming Event

REGIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCE SEPTEMBER 29-30, 2018

Region Training Conference is one of the more unique Key Club events... you head to the woods & stay in cabins along with all your fellow Key Clubbers. You attend many workshops and learn a lot, while also being able to make new friends throughout Regions 9 & 17 and enjoy scrumptious food. You take a somewhat scary walk at night to a huge campfire, where a huge competition is held between each group! This is all done within the span of a weekend, but it's one of the most special weekends you may ever have! - Judy Ng

FROM THE

Media Director Hello there Superheroes! Unfortunately, it saddens me to say that this is going to be the last summer edition of a newsletter this year because school is starting in August! Hopefully, you all have been doing your summer homework (if not, here is your reminder to go do it now >:O). Enjoy the last few weeks of summer vacation, and then once school starts work just as hard as you've partied this summer >:D As for this newsletter, I want to thank Nancy for introducing me to Photoshop so I can make cutout images (they're actually kind of fun to make lol)! While I made the Relay for Life pages, I was reminded by how fun and fulfilling that event was, and if you haven't gone this year, I highly recommend going next year! It's a great way to raise awareness for cancer all while making precious memories with friends! Thank you for looking through this newsletter, and I'll see you all around school!
