from the president Happy summe, Heoes! This is it; you’re finally free from school!...for the next two months a least (I’m so sorry for you summer school kids.) I hope that all of you have a great start to your summer break! Go out with your friends, destress your life, and do some SERVICE. Summer is the perfect time to be getting those hours up and giving back to your community. Already two months into the term, I can see all of the progress we are making! We’ve served hundreds of hours already and raised hundreds for our charities. It’s amazing to witness the amazing things that Key Clubbers can do, so good on all of you for showing your passion and dedication! You make me very proud. :) We have MANY things planned for this summer! Coming up soon is our FIRST official Key Club event of the term: Key Club Training Conference! If you’re interested in attending, please check my earlier post and sign up SOON because spots are limited. In addition, Relay for Life is happening next month! It’s truly a once-in-alifetime event to be with so many supportive people raising money and awareness for cancer research. Finally, there are a whole host of events happening every weekend, from service events to a possible super amazing bonding with other clubs?! All of our officers have been working very hard to make all of this happen, and we would love for you guys to join in on the fun! Thank you all for being such an amazing group of people! Our accomplishments would not be possible without all of you, so keep up the great work and relax! You all deserve the best. Flying into service,

Kathy Ton Kathy Ton PHHS Key Club President 2019-2020

RUSKIN GARDEN WORKDAY

In the month of May, I hosted Ruskin Garden Workday! This event was actually part of a Girl Scout project I had been working on for quite some time, and it was the first time I brought Key Club into the mix! At the event, I had members split up into groups with kids from the local Sunshine afterschool daycare to oversee them and to help them in the garden. While one group was planting beets and onions into the beds, the other was pulling out weeds from the ground. It was really fun to see everyone interacting, and I even got the chance to talk to some members that I had never met before as well! The work was definitely long, and the day hot, but the end result was amazing, as all of the tall weeds were removed and the soil freshly planted. I hope to be able to bring more members to the garden to help out in the future!

BUBBLE RUN

One event I went to in the month of May was Bubble Run! Waking up to get there on time sure was difficult. We were assigned to fill up water cups for the passing runners. There was a strange contraption set up, with two huge water tanks that could spew water using a foot pedal and long hoses. We lined up plastic cups and sprayed the water through the hose and into the cups until we filled up two tables of plastic water cups. However, it seemed as if the hoard of runners was neverending! Before we even knew it, we were out of cups and had to start scrambling to fill more. As more and more runners clumped together waiting for water, the more we panicked. At one point, the foot pedal stopped working and some volunteers opted to opening the water tanks up and scooping water out. We soon formed a fast paced system. It seemed like hours until the frantic rush died down, and everyone felt exhausted but accomplished. This was definitely one of the more difficult and laborious volunteer events, though it felt really rewarding once the job was finished. The next day, my arms were sore from hoisting the heavy hose around filling cups for hours, and that's when I knew I worked hard!

One event that I went to this month was Food4Others! During this event, we packaged foods with the four main ingredients being soy, rice, vitamins, and vegetables, to children in need around the world! This event was a very cool experience as I witnessed families and children working together to putting a dent into stopping world hunger. Moreover, we were able to package 140 boxes of food packages which could suffice starving children for a little more than an entire year! Nonetheless, I found this event to be super fun as volunteers were organized into tables to compete against one another in who can package the most food bags. We also made a chant in which we exclaimed, "table 7, we love food!" Ultimately, this event made me very happy, as I was able to help children around the world by packaging food, and I would definitely recommend this event to others!

FANIME Event Recap

by jadon tran In May, I attended Fanime, which is a popular convention that is held annually in San Jose. I've always wanted to go to Fanime, and this year, I was able to experience it for the first time with Key Club. Not only that, I was able to enter for free because the coordinators reimbursed us for volunteering. At Fanime, we got to choose multiple jobs from a variety of different options. Even though I was volunteering, I had an extremely fun time because the different jobs allowed us to explore the whole convention. In the dealers hall, you could see all the cool stuff people were selling. In the gaming hall, you could watch people compete in games. In the artist hall, you could witness the beautiful works of the artists. Overall, Fanime is a really fun event that everyone should go to.
