FROM THE

VP of Admin

JOANN HUYNH

Happy October and November! Welcome to our busy month as Key Club has so much in store for you. As finals are currently coming and vacation is what we look forward too, I wish all you superheroes the best of luck! But that can never get in the way of you helping out the community. With many events that have happened such as Light the Night, Turkey Trot and Fall Rally North. Currently, Piedmont Hills Key Club has served up to 5698 hours and raised up to $3596.22 for PTP and $594.95 for MNT. We could not have accomplished so much without you guys and I am thankful for ALL of you! Keep up the good work so we are one step closer to reaching our goal! We have been collecting TOT Boxes where all the proceeds will be going towards the ELIMINATE Project. We have also introduce new officers into our lovely board, so be sure to congratulate them! There have been so many anticipated events happen such as Fall Rally North, Light the Night, Turkey Trot and much more. Although, we did not win the spirit stick, we have made a huge accomplishment where Division 12 East was able to contribute over $6700 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. That is so amazing and we could have never been able to reach this far without your guys hard work, dedication, and participation in going to our fundraisers and events. Make sure to be on the lookout for more events that will be coming such as Santa Run in December as well as events in January, I look forward to seeing you there! Enjoy the last few days of your first semesters, good luck on finals, and have a safe/wonderful holiday break! Joann Huynh PHHS Key Club Vice President of Administration 2018-2019

Ann Chung was chosen as this month’s member of the month because of her newfound dedication to Key Club. She only recently joined, but she attended Fall Rally North (& two division bootcamps, including the one in Fremont) and tried her hardest during the rally. She has also began attending many Key Club events, and each of those she has been very kind to everyone.

Event Recap

FALL RALLY NORTH OCTOBER 20, 2018

In October of 2018, I had the pleasure of attending Fall Rally North for the third time. Each year is a whole new experience and I come back with even more insights and passion than I had before. I met countless other Key Clubbers who were as passionate as me, and it is so incredible to be in a community that is so open and welcoming. I wouldn’t ever forget the spirit battles and cheers we did as we walked through the park giving hugs to Key Clubbers from other divisions. Although D12E did not win the spirit stick, it will always be first place in my heart! I can’t wait to go again next year!! - Christine Do

My third and last Fall North was one that is so bittersweet to even type. It's one of those Key Club events that is a MUST in order to complete your high school journey. The unity and love that you feel with not only your division but also everyone in the northern CNH district is so indescribable, the thought of never being able to relive those moments again breaks my heart. Although we didn’t win the spirit stick, we were able to raise so much money for the Pediatric Trauma Program which I say is a massive win for all the lives we’ll save. Either way, I’m so in love with this division and club, I hope future years can continue to scream their hearts out and make new friends along the way. -Tiffany Garcia

Event Recap

TURKEY TROT NOVEMBER 22, 2018 Among the races I have attended in the past, Turkey Trot is now one of my most favorite runs. Although I didn’t really look forward to waking up at four in the morning, I believe the experiences I made during the event totally made up for it. When I arrived at registration, it was super chilly and I was just glad I wore several layers. Later, when everyone was checked in, I was assigned to my corral monitor group, group A. After seeing the participants in the race and how happy they were to be there, I forgot just how cold it was. The smiles of everyone around me warmed me up and made me feel really happy too. When I heard that the race’s funds were going towards charitable programs and buying food for hungry families, I was overjoyed for simply being there and giving a few hours of my time. This race was the highlight of my day because seeing everyone determined to make an impact in our community as well as lead healthier lifestyles by running boosted my understanding of why so many people participate in these races. Additionally, I became more aware of how many people in my community, but more generally, in the world, are concerned everyday about having food on their plate. I’m looking forward to more events like this in the future where I can make people more aware about these causes. This year’s Turkey Trot was a memorable experience and I can’t wait for next year! - Kirsten Takeshima

Event Recap

UNIKEY MOVIE NIGHT DECEMBER 7, 2018

The Unikey Movie Night, which played "The Greatest Showman," was surely one for the books. From the colorful decorations to the abundant food provided, the few hours spent at the library was one for making memories. I especially liked how the crowd was very responsive to the movie, gasping and clapping at climactic moments. I can't wait for the next movie night! -Nicole Chen

FROM THE

Media Director Happy start of the winter season, Superheroes! With December comes chilly weather, ice skating, warm blankets, and Christmas! However, let's not also forget that it's FINALS SEASON! Make sure you all take the time to prepare for finals and start preparing early! Of course, make sure to sleep lots and stay hydrated :) As we swept through big events like Fall Rally North, Turkey Trot, and Election Night, we've really accomplished a lot through this busy fall season. Key Club is just getting started, though! I'm so excited for what we have in store for you all in the next upcoming few months. Trying to decide what to do on some idle days during winter break? Remember that there are always service events to continue attending. It's a great way to help out the community while having fun doing so! That's a win-win situation if you ask me!
