Piedmont Hills High School (1377 Piedmont Rd, San Jose, CA 95132) 8th Issue (December) Amy Van (meetamyv@gmail.com)
vice-president vice-president Whats buzzing Superheroes!
Finishing off 2017, I am proud to say that we have served 7,866.5 hours of service, raised $1,225.18 for PTP and $873.56 for MNT. This couldn’t have been done without your passion and dedication so a million kudos to you! As the end of the 2017-2018 term comes to an end, I hope you all are more than ever determined to finish off the term strong and help us reach our club goals! With a new year comes a whole new year of fun. On January 20th, the first ever PHHS x IHS x MHS charity dinner will take place with the theme Alice in Wonderland at Piedmont Hills! Look out for more information regarding ticket sales in the near future! Following that, we will be electing our new president very soon with new executive officers soon after. If you are interested in running or would like to learn more about what each executive officer does, we will be hosting sessions where you can come learn what we do! Information about executive shadowing will be released very soon so keep an eye out for that! These last few months of the 2017-2018 term will go by in a blink of an eye so remember to make the most of it! For some of us, this will be the last year of their high school career and for the others, the mere beginning. No matter where we are in our high school journey, remember to step out of your comfort zone and make the most of your high school years. Attend that service event that you are hesitant about because none of your friends are going; you might meet some incredible people that will change your life around. Run for that leadership position that you’re telling yourself not to because it’s embarrassing and scary; you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!
from the vp
I hope that you all had a fantastic finish of 2017 and are ready to take on 2018! Despite December being finals month, I hope you all enjoyed your two weeks off and the holidays with your loved ones.
And lastly, with a new year upon us, let go of all the negativity that has been holding you back and make 2018 your year!
Flying with service, Sabrina Huynh PHHS Key Club Vice President of Administration 2017-2018

Santa Run
joann huynh In the month of December, I attended the annual event held downtown which is Santa Run SV which help to raise funds to keep Christmas in the park and Downtown Ice throughout the December and January months. At the event, I helped out at the Kids Fun Run and help encourage them and cheer them on. They were honestly the most sweetest thing you could have seen and having my Key family along with me was the best thing ever. After the Kids Fun Run, we were moved over to the finish line and help out food booths, water stations, and handing out medals to the runners. I couldn't have had this much fun even though finals were in two days this event help let off some stress for me and having my MICs helping me out at the event was so worth and I really do appreciate the hard work they did at the event. This is honestly my favorite event in December   and I'm really glad I went and will consider going again next year.

Santa Run was a really enjoyable and new experience for me. I went with a group of friends, and we got a lot more than we expected. Not only did we get a long sleeve to take home, we also gained valuable memories during the event. Sadly, our group was divided into two after we signed in because our group was too big; however, we ended up reuniting near the end of the event and enjoyed the last few hours together. During the run, I helped open the medals and organize them, move fences around, and distribute water to the finishers. This event was different than other runs because many people were dressed up as Santa and elves; it was exciting to see how spirited so many people could be. After we finished, my friends and I took polaroids, and I still keep one in my phone case to this day. In general, this was a really amazing event and I look forward to attending again next year.

Volunteering at the Tivo Santa Run was a fun experience. I was able to make new friends while serving my community. I also got free snacks and beverages which was cool. Passing water bottles to runners as they make their way through the finish line and seeing the smile on their faces and receiving praises like "thank you" made it worthwhile for me. I'm so glad that I decided to volunteer and hopefully I'll be able to 07 help out again.
Firehouse Run In the cold month of December, I attended my very first Firehouse Run! The day started quite early in the morning and it was for sure freezing. I also had to walk for about twenty minutes in this cold to get to my station. But, in all honesty, I was warmed up by the spirit of all of the wonderful members I got to be with. Some of them I had never met before that day, but after pouring so many cups of water and getting the chance to talk to them, I felt quite happy knowing that these were the people that helped represent Key Club. The runners were also super nice! One family, whose house we were stationed in front of, talked to us about how nice we were to help with the run and even let us play with their dog. Finally, the firefighters, who were just a couple feet away, gave out so many stickers and made so many kids happy. I'm so glad I went to this event and I can't wait to go again next year!
