from the

President

Hello hello Key Clubbers! I can't believe a month of summer break has already flown by-time goes so fast when you're having fun! I hope that you've found June restful, and spent a lot of time catching up on sleep--I know I did! With all the free time on hand, remember to continue volunteering, because service never stops! Recently, Piedmont Hills Key Club was able to surpass 1500 hours!! Woohoo! That means we're 1/6 of the way to our hours goal! Remember that achieving that goal is not possible without YOUR help, so keep serving! There are countless opportunities to continue to serve weekly with our club. In addition, summer means the start of fundraising for PTP! As many of you know, Fall Rally North follows shortly after the start of school, and what better way to fundraise than to drink some boba, earn some money, and then be able to go to Six Flags and cheer your heart out for a cheaper price? I can't wait to see you at some of our upcoming fundraisers. I can't wait to see your BEE-autiful faces at the rest of our summer events! Remember to apply lots of sunblock when you go outdoors, sleep as much as you can, and of course, volunteer! Flying with service, Megan Luong PHHS Key Club President 2017-2018

recognition

CONGRATULATIONS! Eileen is truly an example of a hardworking Key Clubber! Extremely dedicated and kind, Eileen signs up for many service events and always puts in her all. While she may be one of the quieter volunteers of our club, her passion and dedication should not go unnoticed! Her passion for Key Club stems beyond service, as she also attends different events such as KCTC and other Key Club related events. She is a true example of a committed Key Clubber!

Senior Health Fair and Walk

event recap

During June, I attended the Senior Health Fair and Walk at Eastridge Mall. We handed out bags to seniors as they came in to participate at the health fair. The bags were highly sought after and made the seniors happy when they received the free bags. After getting a healthy breakfast, a Zumba session started. The woman on stage was also a senior and much more energy than most high school students. Her class and the other seniors attending had a lot of fun busting out slick moves. The volunteers also had fun watching them. Once the Zumba session ended, the walk around the mall began. Some of the walkers brought the hype, taking selfie videos of them cheering. The walk ended, so we proceeded to help vendors take their stuff back to their cars and take down tables. We even met a East Side Kiwanis Advisor! As we walked to her car, she told us about her experience at DCON, which was really cool. This event was really cute and I would like to attend more senior walks in the future. stacey thai

event recap

4th of July All - City Picnic and Fireworks

The 4th of July All-City Picnic and Fireworks was hosted in Santa Clara's Central Park, with families gathering together to celebrate the independence of America. It was a really fun event, and there were carnival games and a bouncy house for the kids to play in. As volunteers, we were responsible for setting up and running the games and overseeing the bouncy houses. There were a lot of kids and families there, so most of the games were really busy. It was cool how the city of Santa Clara decided to host an event like this, as it allows everyone to gather together and have a good time. At the end of the event, some of our PHHS Key Clubbers even talked with KPIX news and we were featured on TV! Overall, the event was exciting and action-packed, and I hope to come back next year! eric gao

KEY CLUB TRAINI While most people look forward to chilling at the beach, I personally do not, as I don't like all the sand and inconveniences of it. However, I attended Key Club Training Conference, and it was definitely different than my usual perspective of spending a day at the beach! I thoroughly enjoyed KCTC, as I was able to meet several new people from different divisions. We attended many workshops, each of which were lead by a past or current president, DLT member, or LTG. I particularly liked it when the workshop leaders would ask the Key Clubbers to sit next to someone new and introduce ourselves. I thought KCTC was especially great because it is fairly small-scale since it is an event solely for Region 17, giving the attendees the opportunity to bond more with others. It made me really happy to see the entire Region 17 gathered on that beach, along with the LTGs and many advisors.Â

Relay for Life

upcoming event

What is relay for life?

Relay For Life is a twenty-four hour event dedicated to raising funds for Cancer research. At this event, different teams set up a campsite and continue to fundraise through selling items, food, holding activities, etc. Members also take turns walking around a track to signify that cancer never sleeps.

what will we be doing?

Piedmont Hills Key Club has our own Relay for Life team called Arc Reactor! Like all other teams, we will be setting up a campsite and walking the track to help raise funds and awareness for Cancer research.

from the

Media Director Hello Superheroes! Thank you so much for reading all the way up to here! I hope you enjoyed the July issue of Arc Reactor. Amy and I will continue to work hard to bring you aesthetic and informational newsletters. Wow! It’s July already! That means summer is roughly half way over. (I know it’s sad.) But that doesn’t mean service should stop! July is a good time to step outside and serve the community. We can’t reach our hour goal without you! That being said, I hope everyone has a lot of fun for the rest of the summer and don’t stress out too much over sad things like AP test scores or SAT test scores. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to email (stephaniez2000@gmail.com) or Facebook message me! I am always happy to reply. P.S. I apologize for using the same photo again; I don’t have a lot of nice photos. Have a nice day! Stephanie Zhu PHHS Key Club Media Director 2017-2018
