Piedmont Hills High School (1377 Piedmont Rd, San Jose, CA 95132) 6th Issue (October) Amy Van (meetamyv@gmail.com)

vice-president vice-president Hello Superheroes!

Currently, Piedmont Hills Key Club has completed over 3700 hours of service, and we raised $865 for PTP and $100 for MNT. Give yourself a pat on the back for helping our club get one step closer to our goals. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you! Recently, the club has been advertising Trick or Treat Boxes, where members collect loose change for the Eliminate Project. October is the perfect month to raise money for MNT, so make sure to head out on Halloween with your box to support the project! You won’t BELEAF how much a little can go a long way. Last Saturday our members attended FRN at Six Flags, where we competed in a spirit battle against other divisions. Although we weren’t able to win the spirit stick, we made it into the top 5! If you weren’t able to FRN, don’t worry because there are plenty of events to look forward to in October and November. I can already tell these next few months are going to be a Keytastic!

from the vp

Welcome to the month of October! Get pumped because Key Club has plenty of fun activities in store for you. With annual events such as RTC, Light the Night, and Fall Rally North, you’ll definitely have blast this autumn!

Remember to keep serving the community. I can’t wait to see everyone at our future events. Flying with service,

Michelle Zhang PHHS Key Club Vice President of Service 2017-2018

Regional Training Conference from christine do My first RTC experience is definitely one that I will never forget. Over the weekend, I was able to meet so many new people from different areas and to make new memories with those I was reunited with. All the workshops pushed me out of my comfort zone, to break out of my shell and be a leader. One of my favorite moments of the entire experience was performing my group's skit at the campfire. As cheesy as it sounds, these Key Clubbers who I knew for barely a day already felt like family. I even made friends in the girls bathroom because I, being extra, brought a hair dryer that wouldn't turn on. (also there were a lot of cute guys but idk if I should mention that) I was so overwhelmed by how welcoming everyone was, and I was so sad when we had to leave the next day. Overall, my first RTC experience brought me closer to my Key Club friends and I can't wait to see them all again. RTC has always been my favorite Key Club events but this year was even better. Coming back to Camp Jones Gulch to see new and old Key clubbers made me fall in love all over again with this club. Can't wait 'till next year!

Regional Training Conference from megan luong While there are millions of Key Club events to attend throughout the year, Region Training Conference is truly an event like no other. The vibes, the blend of key clubbers, and environment make this event so unique. Whether it’s the cold air, peaceful surroundings, or lack of internet service, something about RTC just makes it the perfect Key Club weekend getaway. While many Key Club events are very divisive, whether it’s by division or school, Region Training Conference really forces Key Clubbers to go out of their comfort zone and meet new people. Almost everyone from Piedmont Hills was separated into different groups, but because of that, everyone was able to make new friends! From making cheers, to practicing skits, it’s safe to say that everyone made so many fun memories. This event goes to show that no matter what Key Clubbers are representing, we always do so with the most spirit, passion and pride we have in us--something that never ceases to make my heart glow with happiness and pride. Seeing members from all around the campfire bonding, cheering and acting with members from all over Northern California made me so proud to be part of this organization, one that embraces inclusiveness, character building, leadership and caring. Whether you are an officer or member, I highly recommend you attend Region Training Conference if you ever get the chance. From sleeping in a cabin with friends, to attending workshops and making new friends, and the BEST food. Despite getting extremely sick afterwards, I would replay RTC over again in a heartbeat if I could. 07

FRN 2017 was one of the best events of the year! It would be both my first time and last time going and I honestly had so much fun! It was great just seeing all these different clubs from different divisions come together to have a great time! The rally was crazy; every club had so much spirit and the atmosphere was crazy! I was also able to meet people from different divisions and I was also able to get a lot closer with the people from my club, especially freshmen! Overall, FRN was one of the best experiences of my Key Club journey, and I really regret not going my freshman through junior years. At the end of the day, though I was super dead, it was well worth it!

VINCENT H.

As my first year of participating in FRN, I was engulfed with great excitement. Waking up at 6 am on a Saturday to catch a bus was not a really pleasant thing to accomplish, yet it was completely worth it. The event was vigorous and spirited, since everybody of the same district dressed in the same clothed, wore the same makeup, and shouted the same cheer. Competing with other districts was also an amusing experience. Although we did not triumph, I still love the sense of unity and togetherness. In general, FRN was surely a fascinating event with amazing friends, energetic competitions, and also treasurable moments.

FALL RALL 08

VI TRAN

Imagine FANTASTIC, Light the Night, and a dope food festival mashed together. That's what this year's FRN was but times 100. It blew my mind that somehow this year's FRN was even more fun than last year. Although your favorite key club division, D12E, didn't come home with that W from the spirit rally, we still made it to the second round which was a HUGE improvement from last year. Honestly it is extremely hard to recap my experiences at FRN in only 5 to 7 sentences so I'm just gonna use some brief phrases to summarize what happened: made some new friends, lost my voice from the rally, almost bought this ridiculously priced water, saw some cute boys and even cuter girls, and made lifelong memories. Quick shoutout to people like Megan Luong, Joann Huynh, and Tiffany Garcia, whose amazing contribution and positive vibes helped FRN run smoothly. I can't wait for DCON!!!!!

LOUIS S.

This has been the first time that I’ve been to Six Flags in more than 5 years, and there was no better way to come back to Six Flags than with FRN. The experience in general was extremely lit and enjoyable. The amount of spirit at the park was high. We got to cheer as loudly as we could at the rally. To be honest, I was somewhat nervous about the environment of the rally, but by the end, we all had a good time. We may not have won the spirit stick, but this was an experience to remember.

from the

Media Director hey what is up :) Wow, could you imagine that Fall Rally North was JUST YESTERDAY? Wowzers, it has definitely been an eventful month and there is more to come! Based off of this newsletter, I hope it was obvious enough that I chose a fall color scheme for the monthly newsletter to get us in that mood~ Comfy sweaters, beautiful autumn leaves, pumpkin spice latte‌nothing could be better. But do you know what fall reminds me of? Trick or Treat boxes! Yes, yes, I am taking advantage of this small space of the newsletter to write about MNT but definitely try to fundraise! Fundraising for Trick or Treat will end on November for Piedmont Hills Key Club. Get that grind mode on heroes, you got this! Do it for the babies!

See you when I see you!
