Statement
We often don’t trust government because we can’t see what it’s doing or why. The solution is transparency.
Everything, except your private information and for whom you voted, open and above board. Ballots handled with more cameras and more trained observers. Machines audited prior to, during, and after counting is complete. And audited again to verify that what we send to the Secretary of State is what is received. The same with records of land titles, or pet licenses or death records or address changes, etc. Is what the Auditor records and sends to an electronic vault the same as received?
Your Recording, Licensing, and Elections departments are very, very professional; but criminal and foreign technology intrusions are escalating. Professionalism must now include cyber security training and hacking recognition. I would lead a transparency effort as I have led organizations of tens and of thousands.
My decades of Air Force, Deputy Auditor, boards and commissions, and veterans’ advocacy leadership, means decades of management by walking around and asking ‘why’ we do something or why we charge a particular fee. If the answer is not satisfactory then we’ll change it or go to Olympia or the County Council to change it!

Statement
Your Auditor is responsible for elections, recording, and licensing. The people recognized that an accomplished, experienced, nonpartisan Auditor was what our county requires, and voted to make it so in 2007.
It was my honor to serve as your elections supervisor where we: updated our tabulation system, providing greater accuracy, accountability, and transparency; helped develop the VoteWA registration system, and implemented award-winning systems for ballot accountability. I am proud to have served as interim elections manager for two other counties, and educated election administrators around the state on the VoteWA system.
I have reached out to political parties, civic groups, chambers, councils, and residents of the county equally. Our Auditor needs to address the concerns of all, politically and geographically. Born in Puyallup, started life in Parkland, split my youth between Roy and the Eastside of Tacoma, found my spouse in Eatonville, and raised my family in the Gig Harbor area. I am Pierce County!
Two short months after the new Auditor is sworn in, they will certify the 2023 February Special election. I promise to use my experience to ensure all our elections are accurate, secure, transparent, and accessible. Do you want your next auditor to need on-the-job training?
