Project Updates
PROJECTS & PLANS
Lots has been happening in our parks. Here’s a highlight of the current and upcoming projects: • Foothills Trail: o East Puyallup Trailhead Expansion construction is underway, the trail through the site will remain open but the parking lot and restroom are closed. o Expect a trail closure between the Military Road and 136th Street trail crossings in late November. We’ll be doing ADA accessibility improvements at the trail crossings, which are expected to take up to three weeks. o Pierce County Planning and Public Works will be conducting a bridge inspection for the Spiketon Ditch Bridge from Nov. 28-Dec. 1. The bridge – located 1.5 miles east of the South Prairie trailhead - will be closed while crews are onsite. There will be no detour or thru access while the bridge is closed. • Sprinker Recreation Center outdoor improvements are in full swing. Bresemann Forest and large sections of the parking lot will be closed into the Spring of 2024. Don’t worry, the improvements will be worth the wait! • Construction has started for the Pipeline Trail and will continue into 2024. During this time, we will close off sections of Orangegate Park and inform adjacent property owners of construction activity along the corridor. • We’re planting trees and building walking trails through Mayfair Playfield this winter. This simple project will create a walking loop, add picnic tables, and add shade to this community park. Mayfair will be fully open during construction.
Gonyea Playfield
Help US Plan OUR Parks Your voice matters! We have opportunities coming up for you to get involved in the master planning for some of our park sites: • Gonyea Playfield in the Parkland Community hasn’t seen improvements since its development in 1960. We are getting ready to change that! • Pierce County is updating the Master Plan for Plateau Park, an undeveloped property south of the City of Bonney Lake. The Master Plan will identify park improvements and phasing for construction. The first phase of improvements is anticipated in 2027. To get involved, sign up for email updates to by visiting the project website. We’ll send you notifications for upcoming community engagement meetings and updates on the specific projects.
