Fantasy Lights

Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park is the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest, featuring nearly 300 elaborate displays and thousands of sparkling lights. The beautiful two-mile drive along Spanaway Lake has become a memorable tradition for the entire family.

Reindeer Scavenger Hunt

Help us find all nine of Santa’s reindeer friends before they leave for the North Pole. Explore Chambers Creek Regional Park’s Grandview Trail and North Meadow (near the playground) in search of Santa’s reindeer and complete the clue list for a fun prize. The reindeer signs include information to help answer Santa’s Clue list. Visit our website to download and print Santa’s Clue List or pick one up at the Environmental Services Building.

DEC 1-31 ICE Lights!

Experience Sprinker Recreation Center’s ice rink transformed into a winter wonderland with over 35,000 lights, animated displays, cascading lights on ice, and falling snow with a giant lighted tree in the center of the rink. Open to all ages, ICE Lights is the perfect festive activity to celebrate the holiday season!

Little Ladies, bring that special gentleman and enjoy and evening just for you. All ages welcome. Come prepared to dance the night away. Pitch in for Parks is a great opportunity for all ages and abilities (ages 15 and under with a guardian) to pitch in and help your community. Join us rain or shine! Come check out the new trail at Frontier Park and help us plant native plants to improve the surrounding habitat.

Rain, sleet, or snow, the “No Sun Fun Run” will take place no matter what weather our South Sound winter provides. The beautifully forested 5K course on the Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail is very flat and stroller friendly. Registration includes a race bib and keepsake medal. Pre-registration required. Run for S’mores! Run or walk on the beautifully forested, flat and stroller friendly Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail or join us virtually. The in-person run includes a “S’more-gesboard tent” with all the fun fixings to make yummy s’mores after the run. Registration includes a keepsake medal and t-shirt (first 250 pre-registered, day-of while supplies last).

All princesses and princes in training are invited to come to the annual Princess Party. Come dressed in your royal attire for this fabulous afternoon event. Our Fairy Godmother waved her magic wand to convert the Meridian Habitat Community Center into a beautiful ballroomoom. All registered participants will receive a gift bag, refreshments, and snacks.

This fun-filled event will be held at Chambers Creek Regional Park in the Environmental Services Building. Please bring your own highlighter or bingo daubers. Extra game cards will be available for purchase at the door. We will play 6 rounds of BINGO, 12 games total. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each game. Concessions will be onsite. Space is limited. Doors will open at 6:00pm.

Moved to June 4! Foothills Dash 5K | 10K | 1/2 Marathon

This fun and scenic race on the Foothills Trail is open to people of all ages and abilities. All distances are USATF certified and chip timed. Runners must complete the course in four hours to be officially timed. The Foothills Trail in Orting is paved and provides flat areas with easy slopes. Runners receive a race bib and keepsake medal. Pre-registration required. NO day of registration.

LEARN TO SKATE

Program Information:

Sprinker’s Learn to Skate Program is for all ages 4 to adult who want to skate for fun or are interested in becoming a serious figure skater or hockey player in a group class setting. Our program follows the Ice Sports Industry’s (ISI) Learn To Skate curriculum which offers classes that are designed for the recreational to advanced skater; with teaching, testing, and award ribbon/patches available for different levels of achievement in basic skills and freestyle.

Levels of instruction include:

PreSkate 1, 2, 3 & 4, Beginning 1 & 2, PreAlpha, Alpha 1 & 2, Beta 1 & 2, Gamma 1 & 2, Delta 1 & 2, Beginning Freestyle, Freestyle 1, 2, & 3, Beginning Freestyle 4.

All New Skaters should register for PreSkate 1 Ages: 4-6, Beginning 1 Ages: 7 + Skaters are evaluated during the first 2 weeks and placed in the appropriate class level. At the end of the 8 or 9 week session, skaters will be tested and may earn a ribbon/patch before advancing to the next level.

Each skater will receive on the day of lesson

• 30 minutes of instruction

• Rental Figure or Hockey Skates

• Practice time on the public session following the lesson

• Skill assessment on the last day of class which will include a Ribbon or ISI Patch recognizing the skaters achievement

• Two complimentary admissions to any regular price public skating session.

Skating Attire:

Beginning skaters are strongly encouraged to wear an All-Sport safety helmet or Crash head band. All Skaters should wear gloves, long pants, warm layered clothing, appropriate socks (not too thick). Freestyle level skaters should wear skating attire such as yoga pants, joggers, leggings. Long hair should be pulled back away from the face and are encouraged to have their own figure skates.

Advanced Skaters

Freestyle Sessions

Freestyle sessions are practice sessions reserved for figure skaters of all ages and abilities who are taking private lessons. All skaters must be registered as an ISI Learn To Skate member and/or a member of U.S. Figure Skating. To reserve freestyle session time book online (LINK).

Private Lessons

Some students find that individual instruction is the best way to fine-tune their skating skills. Fees are paid directly to the instructor and do not include ice time or skate rental.

• No “on-site” registration will be taken by instructors.

• All classes/programs have a minimum and maximum enrollment.

FULL OR CANCELLED CLASSES: Classes may fill quickly or classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If you have registered for a class that must be cancelled you will be contacted and entitled to a full refund. Please feel free to contact Pierce County Parks Administration Office or Sprinker Recreation Center the day before your class starts to make sure the class has not been cancelled.

PAYMENT: Pre-payment is required at the time all activitiy registrations or reservations are made. We accept VISA, MasterCard, cash and checks payable to Pierce County Parks. Please Note: a $25 NSF fee will be added on returned checks.

Children as young as 6 years of age can have fun learning robotics! Using software while working on tablets, kids will be able to program the model builds they craft using Bricks 4 Kidz® model plans and LEGO® technology to create exciting dynamic robots. Skyhawks Beginning Golf is powered by Payne Stewart Golf Experiences, the recommended entry-level golf program for PGA Junior Golf Camps. The unique, games-based play program and modified learning equipment make it easier for kids to hit the ball and experience early success. Putting, chipping, pitching and full swing, are all taught through games, simple repetitive motions and learning rhymes that make it easy for young kids to remember and repeat. Youth Basketball League

This is a recreation based league focusing on positive self image, self confidence, sportsmanship, and physical skills. There are no try-outs, everyone plays regardless of ability. This is not a program for highly skilled players that have previously played together. Registration is limited to the first 160 players on a first come, first served basis.

Practices are 1x/per week (Wed or Fri evening between 5:15 - 7:15 pm) beginning the week of April 17. Games are played on Saturdays (between 2 - 6 pm) on April 22, 29, May 6, 13, or 20.

We rely on the support of volunteer coaches and officials to ensure the success of our program.
