Bring your yoga mat or practice with grass between your toes at this amazing event to celebrate summer! Join us for a blissful Sunday evening with the beautiful Puget Sound as your backdrop for Vinyasa Yoga accompanied by live music by Big Sky Mind and a Sound Bath Meditation.
Come experience yoga outdoors under the backdrop of the Puget Sound, neighboring islands and Olympic Mountains, all while practicing the classic Surya Namaskar series of twelve physical poses linked together by breath. Let’s head to Seattle for a day of discovery. Our first stop will be the seismology lab for a tour on the UW Campus. Get a brief overview of the Plate Tectonic Theory and how those processes have formed the Western margin of North America. Then it’s lunch at Shultzy’s Bar and Grill, a true UW landmark restaurant. Come with us as we head to Roslyn and reflect on the ethnic mix that settled in the area prior to the turn of the last century. We will travel to 25 separate cemeteries abutting each other on 15+ wooded acres on the Hills of West Roslyn. After we will head to the Famous Brick Saloon for lunch, Washington’s oldest operating saloon, established in 1889. Besides the coal miners and local residents of Roslyn, the saloon was also famous for the TV series Northern Exposure. Then we are on our way to Suncadia Resort which features more than 6,000 acres of forested mountain landscape, sun dappled meadows, and rushing rivers. We will visit the lodge, take in a small hike, and enjoy all that Suncadia has to offer before heading home.

Join us for National Trails Day! We love trails, but they also allow weeds to spread into our natural areas. From the stinky to the spiny come learn how to identify and remove some of our most unwelcome invaders. This is learn by doing volunteer event, so be prepared to weed some trails. Saturday, July 21 Old Settler’s Cemetery Take a step back in time and join us at the Old Settlers Cemetery. With graves dating back to 1795, this lesser known historic site contains some of Lakewood’s earliest settlers and Civil War-era veterans. We’ll be removing ivy infestations and cleaning up around the gravestones. Saturday, August 11 Chambers Creek Canyon Time to do summer cleaning at Chambers Creek Canyon. We’ll hike the trail to do a trash pick-up, pull some weeds, and show this canyon a little love. Outdoor Adventures Orienteering Course at Sprinker Recreation Center Grab your compass and explore Sprinker Recreation Center and Bressman Forest with our new Orienteering Course. Orienteering is a navigation sport with checkpoints prepared on a map. Using only the map and compass to navigate; this is the only way to explore the terrain of your park. The course is designed for all skill levels and is perfect for beginners with 20 control points and is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Maps will be available at Sprinker Recreation Center (253)798-4000 and online in the coming months. Lake Tapps County Park This popular swimming and boat launch area for families to ‘beat the heat’ during the summer months, is located on the north side of Lake Tapps. A largely undeveloped135 acre site with approximately 10,000 feet of waterfront access including a sandy swimming area. Lake Tapps County Park offers spectacular views of Mount Rainier to the south and is a great place for kids and adults to swim. The park has several amenities including: • • • • • • •

Ready for its fourth summer, Camp Pierce summer day camps are designed for young adults ages 20-30 with disabilities. Six Great Weeks! Monday-Friday from 8 a.m - 3 p.m. Lakewood Community Center Sign up for one week at a time or for all six weeks. Campers will participate in personally enriching activities within the community including volunteering, visiting parks and other organizations, and taking a fun weekly field trip. Celebrating our 47th year in Pierce County, our summer day camp for individuals with disabilities includes: cooperative play, games, arts & crafts, community visitors, sports activities, dress up days, theme weeks, friendships and much more! The program is staffed with school teachers and college students under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher. Our goal is to assist the participants in finding and maintaining strong friendships while playing and trying new activities. We accept funding through DSHS/DDA for all special populations programs. Companionship Soccer This fun and introductory program will introduce your child to the awesome game of soccer. This fully inclusive program will teach various kicks, the rules, defense, and most importantly how to score a GOAL! Since 1979, Kidz Love Soccer has been dedicated to teaching children the world’s most popular sport within a nurturing, recreational environment.

Participants will meet at the Lakewood Community Center and travel in our new accessible bus to CaskCades, a family friendly arcade and restaurant in Puyallup, where we’ll grub on gourmet hot dogs and soda while playing arcade and board games. Then we’ll take a short walk down to Elements for some tasty froyo and chill time at Pioneer Park. Hatha Yoga is a great way to decrease stress while increasing flexibility and strength. This class is perfect for all body types, new or experienced yoga practitioners. Learn breathing techniques, standing and floor postures. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
In this class, students will be led through a series of yoga postures, coordinated with breath, which can improve strength, balance, and flexibility. Iyengar Yoga
For the Less Flexible or 50+ In Iyengar yoga, the use of props (blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, etc.) allows you to learn the correct actions of every pose, regardless of flexibility. Ice Skating Learn-To-Skate Program As a member of the Ice Sports Industry’s weSKATE program, our basic skills classes are designed for the recreational skater with teaching, testing, and award ribbons/patches available for different levels of achievement in basic skills and freestyle. Registration Information: Levels of Instruction include: PreSkate 1, 2, 3 & 4, Beginning 1 & 2, PreAlpha, Alpha 1 & 2, Beta 1 & 2, Gamma 1 & 2, Delta 1 & 2, Beginning Freestyle, Freestyle 1, 2, & 3, and Beginning Freestyle 4. Beginning skaters should register for Beginning 1 class. Pre-Skate and Beginning skaters are evaluated during the first 2 weeks and placed in the appropriate class level. At the end of the 8 week session, skaters will be tested and may earn a ribbon/patch before advancing to the next level. Pre-Registration is required.
There must be at least 6 skaters in order to hold a class, otherwise the class may be canceled or combined with other levels when possible.
Program Cost: $80.00 (8 wks) for current ISI members $15.00 ISI Membership* Summer Session 5 The program cost includes admission to the public session (on day of lesson only), skate rental, instructional fee, testing fee, ribbon or patch, and a pass good for two complimentary admissions to any regualr price public skating session. *ISI Membership: ISI Membership is required for ALL Learn-To-Skate participants. Membership card or number is required at the time of registration: $15 membership September 1-August 31. As a member of ISI, students receive an ISI membership card, online quarterly magazine, secondary insurance and nationally registered skills tests. Allow 4-6 weeks from session start date for membership benefits to become effective (i.e. secondary medical coverage). As students progress the various levels, they have the opportunity to experience local, district and national competitions available to skaters of all ages, starting with the beginner’s basic Alpha test and ranging upward to the highest tests. These competitions are non-qualifying events. Emphasis is placed on participation and enjoyment. ISI and Sprinker are dedicated to providing quality recreational ice skating programs for the community.

This 930-acre site includes over two miles of saltwater shoreline, two-and-a-half miles of urban creek and canyon, and breathtaking mountain and Puget Sound views. Come visit us and walk on the series of public trails throughout the park. Trails range from Âź mile to 2 miles in length and vary in difficulty. Access the beach using the bridge located at Central Meadow. Play a round of golf at Chambers Bay Golf Course or dine in the restaurant. TOTAL For and in consideration of permission to participate in the recreation activity, I the undersigned participant (if over age 18) or parent or guardian (if participant is under 18) completely release and agree to indemnify and hold Pierce County and its employees, its hired or contracted instructors and any other person, volunteers or organizations affiliated with Pierce County in connection with this recreation activity harmless from and against any and all liability for any injury or damage from negligence or otherwise which may be suffered by the participant arising out of or in any way connected with this recreation activity. I realize that recreation activities have an inherent risk of physical injury. If the participant has any physical ailments or conditions which might affect his/her health by participating in the activity, I have consulted a physician or other medical authority and received permission to participate. I understand that photographs/ videos taken of Parks and Recreation Programs may be used by the Department of Parks and Recreation for promoting our programs, classes, events, in print, tv, or on the website.

General Refund Policy: A request for a full refund will be granted only if your request is presented before the first class begins. After classes have started your refund request will be issued on a pro-rated basis, however no refunds will be issued after the start of the 3rd class. Refund requests must be presented 24 hours prior to one day seminars/workshops. We regret that refunds cannot be made for programs, classes, clinics or trips consisting of 4 or less sessions unless approved by the Department. Please call for specific program refund policies.

Pierce County Parks and Recreation Services provides public parks and recreation services to the residents of unincorporated Pierce County. The department maintains over 4,500 acres at 50 park sites, including three recreation centers, a sports complex, ice rink, skateboard park, two boat launch sites, three golf courses, trail corridors, two disc golf courses, and a large number of passive open space sites through Pierce County’s Conservation Futures system.

Medical Insurance All participants in the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department’s recreation division programs should have their own medical insurance to cover any injuries sustained while participating in any activity sponsored by the division. Pierce County will not be financially responsible for any medical expenses.

Inclement Weather In the event of severe weather conditions, such as snowstorms, it is the participant’s responsibility to contact the center regarding the status of classes, meetings, or activities. Pierce County Parks and Recreation staff are often unable to contact everyone individually regarding these unfortunate but unforeseen circumstances.
