PEGGY GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM EXTENSION EXHIBITION SPACE Academic Work | 2014 | A. Dal Fabbro

Combination, stratification, tension between full and empty; these are the main aspects which make Venice a unique city: it is old-fashioned, but it seems willing to accept modernity because of its “inexhaustible interpretation” character.

also crucial to the genesis of the design idea as the actual layout lacks of fluidity between the wings. The intervention consists of a ribbon leaning on the existing, engaging and leaning on it, always maintaining a sense of detachment and respect; a single volume encompasses entry and exit functions, leaving side wings that, gently tilting, reach the existing flooring of the existing factory. The central void created by the volumes constitutes the pin around which the museum path moves between lights and shadows, dilations and contractions, allowing to fully perceive the intrinsic nature of the project. The perimeter walls, with no openings except on the Grand Canal front, have been completely emptied at the lower level in the interior views in a rational and rhythmic succession of steel pillars, covered with stone slabs to recall the exquisite existing façade stand. To highlight the homogeneity of the project, and the reading of the inner path, all the first floor, including the covers, was covered with Corten steel slabs. This ploy allows to obtain an evocative light which results in perfect harmony with both, the context and the functional needs of a museum.

Emblematic in this sense is Cà Venier dei Leoni, an unrepeatable palace of its kind, evocative in its incompleteness. The imposing stand tells you something more than what can be seen. Born as a noble residence, used as an exotic garden, abandoned and then reused, becoming the first museum of contemporary art in Italy. The project intends to reinterpret this space, maintaining the relationship with the lagoon landscape, which finds a solution of continuity in the succession of the facades of the palaces that delimit the edges of the Grand Canal. It is intended to pursue the goal of “making space” through a succession of environments characterized by different elements. The museum path moves within the extension through the wing of the existing museum, passing from New to the Ancient, with two modes of interpretation of space. The theme of the entry was

U R BA N GAT E URBAN REGENERATION Academic Work | 2015 | A. Gallo

The design assumption is aimed at an urban redevelopment and enhancement of the area facing the Giardini dell’Arena, which is defined by Via Trieste and Via G. Gozzi , the Piovego channel and connected to the historic center by the Porciglia bridge, resulting in the creation of a public park where families, young people and st dent population can find amusement. The intervention aims to animating the urban scene and reshaping the space/i terface between the park and the street. The principle of a firm dissonance between environmental preexistence and new signs, already present in the same proposal of the notice indicating in the Liberty Palaces a constraint to be observed, finds expression in the graft between the two buildings characterised by a “scenic portal” which serves as entrance for comers from Via Trieste. The walkway is supported by a double row of three shaped steel columns, which serve as structural and scenic elements. The threshold line, rippled by the vertical supports, has two different levels.

A ramp, marking a strong sign in the ground, connects the tracks and allows to gain the new cycle-pedestrian bridge linking the park with the Arena Gardens. The ground pattern is a compsitional and ind cative tool for the new layout of the entire area. A natural amphitheater unfolds from the highest level, near the walk along the Piovego, until reaching the lowest floor bounded by the pavement and surmounted by the portal floor. In this game of compression and expansion of the space are routes and accesses find their place. Two axes, composed by stone walls, slipt the project area in trhee by defining its identity. A belvedere tower, originally from a vertical partition, develops with a ramp of stairs, ending in a beautiful view on the terrace, creating a landmark in in the “sky-line” of Padua. On the ground, laid on the asphalt of the existing pavement, a sinuous paved path - which starts at the bridge of the Eremitani and continues till the intersection of Via Gozzi with Via Trieste - follows the loops designed by the tree-lined masses.

RURAL PL ANNING RURAL LANDSCAPE SAFETY Academic Work | 2016| B. Albrecth

“Keep the future. The Thought of Sustainability in Architecture“ Preserving the value of permanence, despite any induced change, is an evolved and updated form of civic and design responsibility. The urban agglomerations of the area into question design the geography of a fragile territory whose garrison can only be dev ted to a strategy of decentralization and enhancement of the minute and pulverized fabric of its historical settlements. The project’s strategy opposes to the tendency for a linear urbanization of the lake shore, in order to safeguard the identity of the h storical nuclei. To do this, terracing sistems are adopted.

These devices, in addition to resuming the rural character of the site, preserve areas from the future construction. The terraces originate from ancient villages, near theAntica Strada Valeriana, and they grow horizontally to the shore of the lake. These soil modeling elements include functions such as: an extension of existing boroughs, a system of cross paths connecting the hilly area to the coastal. The terraces also allow to increase the available soil surface for the planting of olive trees. New plantations will be able to feed a virtuous system aimed at the energy satisfaction of new homes through biomass, derived from the pruning.

Seen from the opposite shore of the lake, project planning returns the rural character of the original terraces. Incorporating housing volumes and its itinerary, the terracing system is a succession of stone walls that, as they develop into the lake shore, define a limit of urban expansion

Starting from the original high village, the terraced system develops by marking horizontal signs to overcome the railway line. RAISING UP LAMMA ISLAND A C I T Y F O R 10.000 R E F U G E S Workshop | Hong Kong | 2016 |

The project starts from a Hong Kong Goverment statement, according to which all the refugees who lives in the HK Special Administrative Region must be re-arranged in Lamma Island (Sok Kwu Wan Bay). The act of arrengement in the bay of a city fragment capable to host 10.000 refugees, well before of any architectonical consid ration, needs a thought on the relationship between refugees itself and local people. The project must be an occasion for the improvement of Lamma economic system in respect of its traditions, the impact of this settlement must be regulated in such a way to keep the imaginary of the island safe: a natural oasis of delights over the caos of Hong Kong. The challenge here is to make possible that a project of this kind will be able not to compromise the local activities, it will be able instead to improve them in order to favour the economy of the island which is built on few restaurants and a comodation situated in Sok Kwu Wan Bay. All of these consideration are made up in the attempt to create life and work conditions capable to deny the risk of alienation.

Place wihich some day they will call home. The project process starts from the conce tion of these four platforms, and it’s based on the idea of raising up the whole system in order to keep the water and ground layers free. The sea has to remain free to be navigated, to allow fish breeding; the ground has to remain free to be cultivated, earth has to estabilish a direct relationship with man. The project skeleton is raised up just to touch the level zero in a few points, these points will allow us to control the “contact-model” system, helping us to m nage the life cycle of the project which in its first conception must be thought as te porary, but being a city fragment it must be conceived in the possibility of a never-e ding permanence. One of the main chracteristic of the project is the possibility of assembly or dismantlying the housing system. This feature allowed us to re-cycle materials and elements, and let the project be free to reach the maximum or minimum envelope as necessary. Flexibility is where the project finds its the real nature.

M E T RO P O L I TA N A RC H I T E C T U R E TOWER / LINEAR PARK Academic Work | 2016 | A. Aymonino

Latest studies report the about 2.4 milions people are living in Queens’ borough. (27% of the NYC). Queens is the largest borough and, along with Brooklyn, the most populated one. Queens’ borough is a multi-ethnic one. This variety of cultures has influenced the growth of the borough since forever. The communities that represent all ethnics groups grow between im ginary boundaries, and it seems as if they would not want any kind of exchange, relationship and interaction. This feeling is highlighted alongside Roosevelt Avenue, where every block contains shops and houses from only one ethnic. The plan of action always considers a couple of parallels roads. These roads will be orthogonal to Roosevelt Avenue, which can be seen as the current hub of the whole area. Our will is to develop the new system orthogonally to Roosevelt Avenue descend from the need to lead to an urban network grounded in

interaction, exchange and medley of commercial activities, know- ledges and various ethnic groups. This particular need comes from the lack of cohesion between almost every block of the entire area. The strategy consists in the closing to the traffic of one of the two roads, and the superimposition of an urban “carpet” on it. The road will become pedestrian, and it will hold different and various public places. These places will be defined through the creation, in the carpet, of excavations and plates with several heights and depths. The urban carpets will be positioned close to the six metro stations of the subway line 7, from “Roosevelt Ave-Jackson Heights” to “111 St”. The new buildings will be built at the far ends of the blocks touched by the carpet. The system of excavations and plates will intertwine with a public green belt and it will build links with the new buildings and put together the surrounding area.

Architecture as a discipline able to put in different worlds relationships, as the art of mediation, the continuous change of course.

in the homogeneity of the Venetian historical jersey is a stimulating starting point for the search for that character that every architecture must be able to interpret. The theme of the project will be investigated in its different “worlds belonging, from that of the neighborhood and the minute relations with the circle, to the social space of public vocation and the potential of urban revitalization, landscape, studied in the interaction that the intervention will produce with the next background of the lagoon and with the poetic dimension that it represents.

The project addresses the problem of the reconversion of the area of the former gas meters of San Francesco della Vigna, on the north side of the historic Venetian town, near the civil hospital. The area includes the dismantled laboratorys and plants used for gas distribution. Conversion of residential and public spaces is expected. The particular condition of gasometers

A P P ROAC H I N G V E N E Z I A FUTURE LANDSCAPE / UNDERWATER TUBE W.A.Ve | 2014 | Renato Rizzi

Getting to Venice: moving slightly from the two-dimensionality of contemporary thought to the three-dimensionality of ‘theological’ thought. Venice’s Waiting: the passing of theological to technology and its opposite. The project consists of a “water gate” to be provided on the edge of the mainland near the Liberty Bridge. A complex landing point functionally converges mainly, but only to the different streams of water and terrestrial waterways, having a distinct end to Venice.

In this scenario, the triad of the main themes is restored: architecture, the ‘knowing’ of the project; the city of Venice, ‘subject’ of the project; the water port, ‘object’ of the project. Obviously, the reference to the vicious motto Verum Ipsum Factum is evident. Beyond the translations, these three words are indicating that there is no ‘fact’ independent of ‘truth. Rather than any ‘fact’ depends on its ‘metaphysical point. Architecture know-how has long since been questioned about the near tension.

OBSERVE THE CONS TRAINT LAKE HOUSE Academic Work | 2012 | M.Manzelle

The area at the disposal of the project is a flat ground located on the shore of a prealpine lake, characterized by the south orientation of the lake front and the articulation according to a predefined scheme, consisting of a range of dwelling areas, access from the road and a new building area. The total height of the construction is 7.5 m with a 1.5 m communal band reserved for the roof joint; under which the building is developed on two floorst in full compliance with these constraints. Access to the lot

takes place from the north-facing road, while the southern front of the dwelling extends to the edge of a green area destined for public use. The design choice aims to translate the constraints of the area into compositional and evocative possibilities, freeing the entire ground floor, with the exception of the access staircase, between the two concrete walls, so as to maintain the total permeability of the green area. At the top, distributors reflect the linearity of the composition.

I N C L U D E D S PA C E HIUSE-STUDIO / EXHIBITION SPACE Academic Work | 2013 |Doimo

Architecture responds to the need to live through the wise articulation of structures that always involve a compositional and constructive process, thus implying a work of space, materials and techniques.

The implantation plant, with continuous masonry, delimits a paved interior courtyard rhythmically rimmed by a “tectonic” steel skeleton, supporting a roof atettonica corresponding to the emerging lobby. Wall fence and structure are based on a stone podium-pavement; Separate dematerialized walls encircle the main covered space, while valuable athletic screens separate it internally. The space of the classroom below the “roof with columns” is completely free and fluid and corresponds to modern ways of living open and flexible.

The project consists of a residence characterized by an articulated functional program (an architectural study, meeting/exhibition space and a guest house), located in a topographically complex place composed of composite and distributive different parts organized around an inner court.
