CURTAIN WALL PLUGIN FOR SKETCHUP “Curtain Wall plugin for SketchUp gives us the opportunity to be more data-driven in our approach to early design process. The plugin process was designed to the architect’s viewpoint.” Architects : A 49 , A 110 , MAA Consultants , Redek “By having this source of system. There is no confusion. Everybody has the same information. So, when the clients receive this information, they can compare apple to apple to everybody. It’s much fairer system.” Mr.Peter Bouras, Associate Director – Façade. Meinhardt (Thailand) Ltd. Facade Consulting Engineers : Meinhardt (Thailand) Ltd. , Global Façade System Co.,Ltd. , Teasco ( Thailand ) Co., Ltd.
cw cw Collaborate more effectively The plugin works well with the process of design between architects and engineers. The material take-off output for manufacturing purpose is marvellous, especially comparing with a minimum time to input the data.

Background and Importance
Background and Importance The current architectural design needs the integration of technology for 3D modelling in responding to the change of structure from basic to free form. Particularly, the faรงade which has the curtain wall systems.
>
LIFECYCLE > From the research of faรงade consulting engineers, and architect companies found that the delivery consists of 2D drawings and 3D models. Especially, SketchUp is quite popular among architects, and provides for quick, simple models.

Facade Consulting Engineers used a variety of software tools. All of these software tools have their place to use whichever is the most appropriate to the task at hand , e.g., Structural Analysis , Drawings , 3D Modelling.
There are 2 types of companies. 1. Faรงade Engineers use SketchUp for 3D Modelling to present the architects. 2. Faรงade Engineers use SketchUp for viewing 3D model to measure the dimensions.

3D MODELLING
The powerful 3D tools of Curtain Wall Plugin helps architects to save time in 3D modelling a patterned facade with aluminium profiles, glass colours, and sunshades from manufacturers’ systems. Accordingly, the tool saves work time for architect in conceptual design and schematic design.

Aluminium profiles can be matched to individual needs. Architects can create a new profile, and save in a plugin’s component folder for different types of shapes. The product catalogue will be update in a dialog box for architects to generate a patterned model with a new profile added.

In schematic design process, architects can save the scheme models in a programme at the same position to see in different views , and is useful when creating scenes to export in SketchUp Layout to show the design compare.

3D MODELLING FOR DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Using aluminium catalogue, façade engineers can draw profiles and access all objects within the loaded component’s folder of mullions and transoms.
Façade Engineers
2
REVISE PROFILE SIZES AND SAVE IN A COMPONENT FOLDER
All profiles can be swapped from architect’s model after engineering calculation of structure’s size.
Faรงade Engineers
3
REVISE MODEL FOR CORRECTION SIZES
Facade Engineers can remodel the structure by using connection tools. This function is very versatile to solve various types of joint which are important for the design development.

Future Development
1
ROTATIONS ON PLANES
The rotation of profiles on correct planes which is difficult to calculate angle axis. The programme bases on the theory of reduced bearings in 3D space for SketchUp. If the users want to revise profile rotation, it is necessary to do settings in product catalogue in case of complex structure.
Future Development
2
REDUCE TIME OF LOADING
The loading profiles on selected lines could create a long time in a current method. It is advisable that users should load profiles floor by floor to save time in Curtain Wall 3D modelling of Stick System.
Future Development
3
TAG NUMBER NAMING OPTIONS
The components mapping of unitised system do not have a naming function which matches to the tagging panel faces for automatically face map. Users have to see the different coloured faces and differentiate the types of panels. The function of “select same materials is used to select coloured faces together with a prototype component.

EXTRACT DATA TO THE COMPANY EXCEL FOR COST ESTIMATION
The possibility to link material take-off in to the company excel tables.
