Letter from the Managing Director Dear Friends, For generations, South Seas Island Resort has been a special place where happy memories and lifetime experiences are created. We recognize, along with all of you, a deeper appreciation of the things we hold dearest – our health, family, and friends. It is with this we welcome you to our island paradise. We began 2020 looking forward to a year of saying hello again to old friends and welcoming a new generation into our South Seas family; little did we know that 2020 had its own plans and challenges for us. Instead of dwelling on the negatives that this year has certainly thrown our way, I want to highlight how inspired I am by our guests, staff, and community to combat these challenges and push through when it was needed most. The coronavirus pandemic highlighted the need for creativity more than ever to ensure safety for all. Our team has stepped up to this challenge and should be commended for their Herculean efforts to step up in every area of the resort. We understand that our guests’ expectations for hotel cleaning and disinfecting have changed. We have built upon our already rigorous cleaning standards by providing enhanced training for our associates, increased cleaning of public areas, and adjusted food & beverage services, to ensure our guests enjoy a worry-free stay. We feel fortunate for our destination as Captiva Island provided the escape many were yearning for, just as we have always been. With over 330 acres and 2.5 miles of pristine beach, our guests are able to spread out and feel like they are on their own secluded private island. After all… isn’t sun, sand, and surf the perfect remedy to any ailment?

Kehrin Hassan FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT WEDDINGS AT SOUTH SEAS:
1. SUNSET POINTE. The large majority of my clients are flying to sunny Florida specifically to have a beautiful serene ceremony on the beach. South Seas provides that and so much more. You get the beach almost to yourself with mostly calm waters and almost always a little dolphin sighting. Literally, the dreamiest beach ceremony location South West Florida has to offer. 2. SO MANY SPACES TO CHOOSE FROM. The selection of event space on property for your celebrations are endless. With a sandy luau space, a private lawn with a cottage backdrop, inside outside dining at the docks and a large pavilion with a vast deck surrounded by mature palms and more, the hardest part is choosing. Your guests get a full weekend of experiences without even leaving property. 3. THE FOOD. Being right on the water is something that South Seas does not take for granted and you can tell in their selection of fresh catch, local produce and island inspired presentations. The culinary staff are proud of their cuisine and through their service it shows. After years of creating showstopping weddings here, I never get tired of my clients raving about the dining experience. 4. THE SALES STAFF. As a planner it is so important that ourselves and our clients have a kind and knowledgeable staff to support them through the details of creating such elaborate events. The staff at South Seas are just that. They are so invested in the expectations of our clients that it makes it such a pleasurable planning process for us all. 5. THE ESCAPE. I have to say the most incredible thing about the South Seas is the feeling of escape. Once you enter past the gatehouse you almost subconsciously drop your shoulders and exhale. Though it is only a small jaunt from the airport it seems a million miles away from the stresses of the day to day. All of the guests feel that joy of relaxation and are present to experience all that we have planned for them at this beautiful property.
TIPS FOR THOSE SAYING “I DO� YOU'VE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS
1. S pend time on your ceremony details. Too often clients are quick to get the ceremony over fast when that is literally the reason we are all there. I find it so important that you find a professional that will help you write a ceremony that is meaningful to you or write your own vows or promises to each other. This doesn't mean the ceremony needs to be long, it just needs to be intentional. Your older self will never regret doing so. 2. I nvest in good bones. As a designer I feel it is so important to invest your design funds first in creating a base of beauty. Whether that means upgraded chairs, a custom linen or a beautiful antique wood bar rental, it's choices like this that allow you to cut back on little decor items that don't make such an impact. For example, if I'm working with a tight budget, I always favor an installation piece over the dancefloor to a full centerpiece on every table. Put your money where it makes the largest impact. 3. Design your timeline around the sunset. The rule of thumb for creating your timeline so that you have the best sunset photos is to schedule your ceremony to start 1.5 hours before sunset. In the summer months when sunset is a bit too late for that, schedule your ceremony so that sunset lands around 30 minutes after your first course is served. That way you can eat, then step away for sunset photos during entree service. They won't even know you're gone. 4. C hallenge yourself to say no to the things that you don't want to do and say yes to the things that may not be so popular. This is the day that people are coming to celebrate you and they are relying on you to show them the best way to do that. 5. Great Video is created with great audio so make sure if you have invested in a videographer that you are also creating opportunities to capture really intentional and thoughtful audio.
6. Don't get too hung up on the small stuff because enjoying the process is just as important as enjoying the day itself. At some point you have to trust the professionals you have hired by learning to let go and just soak it all in.

Native to South Florida, Chef Tim has over 20 years of experience in the culinary field ranging from fine dining steak houses to large volume banquet venues. He earned an Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University after a few short stints in the underbelly of the Miami food scene. Graduating Summa cum Laude, he started his hotel career with Starwood Hotels and progressed from unpaid intern to Executive Chef over the course of a decade. While with Starwood, Chef Duque served as Sustainability Champion for the Diplomat Resort, earned a SixSigma Greenbelt certification and a Sommelier certification through United States Sommelier Association. Not a stranger to Captiva, (he vacationed here as a youth and worked with us in 2014 & 2018) Chef Tim participated in the Southwest Wine and Food Festival as one of the highlights of his time here at South Seas.

1 Whole Rack - Baby Back Ribs 2 Bottles - Sweet Thai Chili Sauce 0.25 Cups - Chopped Peanuts 1/2 Bunch - Chopped Cilantro 1 Teaspoon - White Sesame Seeds 1/2 Box - Corn Starch
3 Slices of Muddled Red JalapeĂąo Peppers 2 Parts Herradura Tequila 3/4 Parts Cointreau 1/2 Parts Lime Juice 1/2 Parts Simple Syrup Pinch of Cilantro

Preheat deep fryer to 350F
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and then pour into a glass with ice.
Begin by seasoning the rack of ribs with salt and pepper, pour sweet thai chili sauce over the ribs, just enough to coat the top and bottom of the rack. Wrap tightly with parchment paper and aluminum foil. Place on a sheetpan and bake in oven at 300F for 30 minutes or until a knife easily slides through thickest part of rack. Let the ribs cool. Cut into two rib size pieces. Toss in seasoned corn starch, slowly place in the deep fryer at 350F. When the ribs are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the oil, season with salt and pepper, toss in mixing bowl with remaining sweet thai chili sauce, sesame seeds and garnish with cilantro and chopped peanuts.
Garnish with a slice of red pepper.

We Have A Big Announcement! Discover a new passion for the game of tennis through these exceptional services offered by Blackwood Tennis Academy at South Seas Island Resort: The Blackwood Tennis Academy partners with athletes of all abilities to provide a high level of tennis training created to meet their goals on and off the court. Since each player has unique training needs, our programs focus on their individual strengths and areas for development. With a combination of physical training, mental development and an emphasis on education for all players, we create an environment where each player that works hard can be a winner.
Our courts will be getting resurfaced this year, and part of the project will include adding Pickleball lines to 3 of the tennis courts (for a total of 6 Pickleball courts)! Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, and it's one of the fastest growing sports in the country!

Hello my name is Nick Fischer I am a second generation fishing guide from Captiva Florida. I have been guiding full time now for 7 years. Being the son of a fishing guide was an amazing experience to be on the water as a first mate. I fished with my dad on his charters every chance I could get. I was so interested in our ecosystem I went to college at Coastal Carolina University and majored in Marine Science. After I graduated I still had the urge to become a guide and to show people this amazing fishery we have in Southwest Florida. Now I take families to chase tarpon, snook, redfish, cobia and any other species that are in our area. My favorite perk of my job is to see the smile on a kids face after catching a fish of a lifetime. I’m a competitive tournament angler as well and have placed in the top 5 in more then a dozen different tournaments in our area. I look forward to getting on the water everyday and very thankful for what I do.

The Bayside Marina is a Historical House that has been re-located at the Bayside Marina and the resort will run all fishing charters out of the space. The space will feature fishing charters, fishing tackle, live and frozen bait and much more!!! Adjacent to the building is a brand new paver patio area for relaxing and hanging out with friends and watching the boats return from a day of fishing on Pine Island Sound. Good times and memories will be had by all at the new Bayside Marina.

Fishing Charters: Both Marinas Back Bay fishing with your own private guide near South Seas Island Resort. Charters are available for half or full day from the Yacht Harbour and include a professionally licensed guide, all fishing poles and tackle equipment, a fishing license and ice.
