Auditorium Program DEC 4 -WEDNESDAY 6pm - 7pm AMIA presents contemporary testimony and participating artists Contemporary Testimony is a compendium of serigraphs that brings together the work of six Argentine artists. Through their individual practices, these artists represent one of the possible maps of our visual arts, and, in turn, are part of a vast territory of vague borders, eroded by alphabets; of languages and quests that converge far beyond their native soil. Liliana Porter, Eduardo Stupia, Guillermo Kuitca, Pablo Siquier, Nicola Costantino, and Jorge Macchi join paths in this combined project, bringing us their knowhow through ideas that are already part of our visual identity.
DEC 5 - THURSDAY 2pm - 3pm Book Presentation: Itinerancy/ Itinerancia by Viviana Zargon for Aluna Art Foundation. Talk by Adriana Herrera and Willy Castellanos. Aluna Art Foundation announces the launch of the bilingual book (English/Spanish) Itinerancy / Itinerancia. Viviana Zargón, the first title of an editorial series that will include books by artists conceived as a curatorship in a printed format, along with the publication of open curatorial research projects and art catalogs. The Project rediscover a historic series of photos, an archive which provides something that painting never could: indelible “evidence.” of the social process of a time in which numerous manufacturing industries located in Buenos Aires and its surroundings went extinct after having been dynamos of the urban conglomerate. Safely kept in her studio, unknown to the public as a whole, this cartography so emotive in its vision and reiteration, built from wanderings and misplacements around the city, can be read as an inventory, a sort of atlas of the way industrial life in Buenos Aires is fading away.
DEC 6 - FRIDAY 2pm - 3pm Women Geometers, catalog launch by Adriana Herrera, published by Atchugarry Art Center 14 • PINTA MIAMI 2019
Curated and written by Adriana Herrera the project reunites a significant group of twelve Latin American Pioneers creating a dialog that had not taken place before in the same space simultaneously. They are (in chronological order of birth): Loló Soldevilla (Cuba, 1901-1971), Gego (Germany, 1912- Venezuela 1994), María Freire (Uruguay, 1917-2015), Mira Schendel (Switzerland, 1919 - Brazil, 1988), Regina Aprijaskis (France, 1919- Peru 2013), Lygia Pape (Brazil, 1927-2004), Zilia Sánchez (Cuba, 1926), Mercedes Pardo (Venezuela, 1921-2005), Lía Bermúdez (Caracas, 1930), Fanny Sanín (Colombia, 1938) and Lydia Okumura (Brazil, 1948). With different visions and variable degrees of acknowledgment, all these pioneers challenged the confines of geometric abstraction. 3:30pm - 4:30pm Latin America - Women And Collecting Top women collectors in Latin America discuss their experiences and challenges. Moderated by: Tiqui Atencio Demirdjian, Speakers: Solita Cohen, Ella Fontanals-Cisneros, Milagro Maldonado. Panelists bio: Venezuelan-born Tiqui Atencio Demirdjian purchased her first artworks at the age of 18—a Valerio Adami she loved for its strong colors and composition, and a painting by Emilio Boggio. At her wedding a year earlier, Demirdjian’s father presented her with a painting by the French artist Bernard Buffet, inspiring her lifelong passion for art collecting. Demirdjian has served as a member of the Mustique Company’s board of directors and the acquisition committees for the Guggenheim Museum and Tate Modern. Art collector Solita Cohen remembers with great pride how her parents Sadie and Simy Cohen, instilled in her a passion for art when she was still a little girl in her native Caracas in Venezuela. The Cohens have been long time art collectors and have amassed an impressive selection of 19th and 20th century masterworks by Chagall, Renoir, Picasso, Botero, Manolo Valdés and many others. Likewise, Cohen arrived to the conclusion that collecting was part of her heritage and began her own collection of contemporary Latin American art. Ella Fontanals-Cisneros is a philanthropist, entrepreneur and art collector with an abiding passion and dis-
cerning eye for contemporary art and design. Born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela, her vision has made a significant impact on the Miami arts community and arts organizations around the globe. The Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection has since grown to include important and cutting-edge pieces by risk-taking artists from around the world, with strong representations of geometric abstract art from Latin America as well as international installation and video art and photography. Ms. Fontanals-Cisneros brings an international perspective to her patronage, her collection and the non-profit institution she established in Miami—the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation. The Maldonado Family (OMM Project), with the guidance of Milagros Maldonado, purchased Dorissa for the home of Miami Biennale, a non-profit organization that works to establish initiatives in the arts that stimulate funding from both public and private institutions; to create projects that develop and promote interactive platforms in the arts for education and cultural development. With a main event every two years that focuses on education through art; Miami Biennale will be fulfilling its main objective of promoting a creative dialogue between Miami, its multi-layered cultural community, and the world. 5-6pm A tribute to Pablo Atchugarry The Consulate of Uruguay honors Pablo Atchugarry and his contribution to his Contemporary Art and beyond. 7-8pm Panel presentation of Carlos Cruz Diez’s book “Fashion art and nature ,” edited by Skira Milano. The panel discussion provides insight and the history of the 40 dresses designed by Oscar Carvallo in collaboration wit the artist presented at the Pinta Miami. Speakers: Amaranta Pedrani (Skira Edition Italy), Carlitos Cruz Diez (Cruz Diez), Alain Dib (team Carvallo), Miguel Prypchan (Artist) Ana Luisa Azpurua, Oscar Carvallo, Helene Farnault (writer), Alexander Arrechea (Artist), Jaime Gili (Artist), Eva Hughes.

Julio Le Parc and Juan Le Parc PINTA 2019 will feature a Virtual Reality installation by the argentinian artist Julio Le Parc. This work was made by Julio together with his son Juan Le Parc for an exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris this year. This installation is entitled “7 alchimies en réalité virtuelle” and will be presented in our edition of 2019.
“7 ALCHIMIES” VIRTUAL REALITY. By Alejandro Martin (España, 1966), curator. Julio Le Parc, Mendoza, Argentina 1928, “7 alchimies” offers us a sublimation of his work and artistic research. He pioneered optical and kinetic art in Paris in the 60’s, creating artistic projects that play with the viewer’s perception, with the interaction with the work of art and the use of light as a matter of expression. In this Virtual Reality work, Julio Le Parc brings together all his experience of color, kinetics, light and perception. It is as if this new immersive technology had been anticipated by his work and previous creative thinking, no doubt the artist is a visionary. In cooperation with his son Juan Le Parc, Paris 1960, a pioneer of digital Art and renowned VR artist, they have created a unique experience. When we enter virtual reality, a non-corporeal space appears, emotionally placing us in an environment of luminous constructions, based on colored dots, 14 tones, which are inspired by his previous works of the Alchemy series, drawings and paintings. The artistic experience falls between contemplation and play, recalling the philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer in his conception of contemporary art as a game, a symbol and a festival.

Through a virtual pointer we can move through seven realities, from a circular construction to another cylindrical or another in an orthogonal network, we physically walk in them, we cross them, we breathe them and our body is wrapped in vertigo, freedom and transparency, while our mind remains meditative before the beauty of the lighting scenarios. The inventor of virtual reality, Jaron Lanier, already anticipated that it is a technological medium that prioritizes the stimulation of dynamic knowledge with which we perceive the world rather than creating alternative scenarios of perfect resolution and image. The artist strongly believes in the interaction and positive influence of the work of art and the viewer “If people feel a change in their mood, they feel more optimistic, is already something good”. Pinta Miami, alongside with the artists Julio and Juan Le Parc, hope that this experience will be motivating and unforgettable. The work “7 alchimies” was shown in 2019 at Palais de Tokyo, Paris and in 2018 at the Tomie Ohtake Institute & Nara Roesler Gallery, Sao Paulo.

Yamandú Canosa
ORIÓN By Patricia Bentancur, curator. Yamandú Canosa’s work is built on a permanent tension between sign and metalanguage, between reference and metaphor. Orión, 2019, is one of the pieces that were part of the installation “The empathic house”, which was presented at the Uruguay Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale. This work - which, due to its materiality, we could consider unique in the grammar of this artist - is a new way of re-naming the fundamental elements that make up the conceptual axis of all his practice. The constellations define the belonging of our gaze, the sky of the Northern Hemisphere is different from that of the South. However, the constellation of Orion is visible in both hemispheres. That semantic ubiquity summarizes the uneasiness of belonging, as in no other work

by this artist. Orion inhabits all eyes. Thus, Canosa not only names her, but makes her a game. The stars are petanque, someone cast their luck before us, but we are invited to continue playing. Canosa offers us the possibility of creating a new cosmogony. Surely we will not, but for a moment we will have the illusion of that power, the power to create a new constellation, parodying the Gods. Like the players of Popol Vuh, this sculpture is nothing other than the possibility of stalking some unpredictable movement. Canosa’s work is key to completing any contemporary narrative. His works integrate the permanent collections of various museums, art centers and foundations both public and private.

Lisu Vega
Lisu Vega is a multidisciplinary artist working with sculpture, installation, and fashion. Her work explores issues such as sustainability, migration, memory and identity. For a long time, she has studied the relationship between fiber and the human body as an expression vehicle. She has found in weaving a vehicle to connect with her memories and her ancestors. In her most recent work, that connection guides Lisu’s hands to weave the rope into sustainable contemporary art pieces, that expand into the space in a playful, sometimes mysterious, combination of shapes and shadows. This intensive physical nature of the work serves as a catalyst to her emotions of loss for what has been inevitably left behind, simultaneously creating a bridge to her past and a strong message of hope for the future. In partnership with Dr. Aroma, the installations El Nido and The Skin feature an olfactory element with fragrances such as Nostalgia and Lemongrass, evoking memories and creating a personal connection to the work. AMIA. Contemporary Testimony A compendium of serigraphs that brings together the work of six Argentine artists that through their individual practices stamping one of the possible maps of our visual arts and dialogues that converge far beyond their native soil.
GENERATING A CULTURE OF COLLABORATION By Elio Kapszuk, Curator. Contemporary Testimony is a compendium of serigraphs that brings together the work of six Argentine artists. Through their individual practices, these artists represent one of the possible maps of our visual arts, and, in turn, are part of a vast territory of vague borders, eroded by alphabets; of languages and quests that converge far beyond their native soil. The result is a corpus of graphic works that reveal the unique, identifiable stamp of their creators, while at the same time representing a fertile dialogue with one another, whether based on proximity or contrast. In a country that often is portrayed as being divided, AMIA continues to provide encounters through various artistic activities in which sketch artists, comic strip illustrators, musicians, writers, and actors can share essential values without the need to coincide in their respective affiliations. And while it is true that this project requires no ideological agreement, it does demand the will to participate – from what it particular to each – in a collective construction. It is, in essence, a generous gesture: to offer up one’s own work and agree to coexist with others, thus resignifying oneself through a portion of one’s total oeuvre in

a journey as arbitrary as it is magnificent. Given the limitations of literalness, its lack of imagination, and through the use of a text that was not pre-determined or rehearsed, the images in Contemporary Testimony I believe, tell a significant tale. This tale begins with an incredibly open and free landscape, with oases dotting the impenetrable foliage. Then comes the work of human beings, constructing borders with names and titles to deeds. These are followed by little paper boats, crossing with their most precious belongings: the memory of what happened before and the possibility of passing it on. The journey continues with the dialogue of the masters, with the understanding that one always builds on established foundations, that structure which becomes a circular voyage, where it’s a wise to travel light, One has to stand back to contemplate the impossible edifices and cross the magical paths of Noplace. Liliana Porter, Eduardo Stupia, Guillermo Kuitca, Pablo Siquier, Nicola Constantino, and Jorge Macchi join paths in this combined project, bringing us their knowhow through ideas that are already part of our visual identity.
