The Independent

The Daily Telegraph The Daily Mail

by Graham Linehan From the Motion Picture Screen Play by William Rose and by Special Arrangement with StudioCanal & by Special Arrangement with Fiery Angel Ltd, London The classic Ealing Studios comedy from 1955 gets an entirely new lease of life . . . In order to pull off a brilliantly conceived robbery at King’s Cross Station, a motley crew of criminal misfits pose as amateur musicians needing rehearsal space and take rooms in the lopsided lodgings of the sweet, eccentric Miss Wilberforce. But whilst the police are blissfully ignorant of the sophisticated heist being planned under their very noses, Miss Wilberforce who has a history of “noticing” suspicious goings-on in the neighbourhood - is not so easily deceived. So the gang’s criminal

mastermind, the disturbed (and disturbing) Professor Marcus, decides that Miss Wilberforce must face the music. And he doesn’t mean a string quartet . . . This brand new adaptation of the Ealing classic, written by Graham Linehan, the BAFTA and Emmy-award winning television comedy writer and director (co-creator and writer of Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd) had both the critics and audiences in raptures during its recent smash-hit West End run. PFT is delighted to be staging the Scottish première production of this brilliant new/old comedy!

Miracle On 34th Street The Musical

White Christmas, 2012

It’s A Wonderful Life, 2013

The Times

EdinburghGuide.com

Following the huge success of White Christmas and It’s A Wonderful Life, PFT is delighted to be staging the Scottish Première of another great Christmas musical: the irrepressibly feel-good Miracle On 34th Street. In 1940s New York, Doris Walker juggles her job as a senior executive at Macy’s department store with raising a daughter, Susan, by herself. Whilst Susan dreams of having a father, her determined mother is focused on career advancement. And hiring Kris Kringle, a genial old-timer who bears a striking resemblance to the North pole’s

most famous inhabitant, as the new Macy’s Santa may be Doris’s masterstroke. But no sooner is Kris installed than he starts to behave – well, strangely. And then he claims that he is, in fact, the real Santa Claus . . . Based on the classic 1947 movie, this sparkling celebration of the festive season features the unforgettable It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. A joyous, heart-warming musical, this will be the perfect entertainment for the whole family this Christmas!

2015 looks set to be the best Winter Words yet, with a fantastic mix of authors, broadcasters, journalists and historians and some rugged, outdoor adventure types! – offering something suitable for regular Festival audiences and new visitors alike. Welcome to the 11th Winter Words Festival! The BBC’s Security Correspondent Frank Gardner will be reporting on the battles in the Middle East, ten years after he was shot at point blank range and left for dead. Royal biographer Penny Junor will be revealing tales from the palaces and beyond. Both the voice of Today, James Naughtie, and Newsnight’s Kirsty Wark have recently taken the leap from current affairs journalism into the world of fiction writing. They’ll be reading excerpts from each of their new novels - Naughtie’s political spy thriller and Wark’s multi-generational love story set on the Scottish island of Arran. The battle of Bannockburn will be remembered in different ways: through a new book by the brilliant James Robertson, illustrated by Jill Calder, and also by historical fiction specialist, Robyn Young. A stunning new history of St Kilda by Roger Hutchison will kick off the ten days of Festival fun, before we’re joined by Patricia Andrew, whose new book examines Scottish artists and their experience of war, and the ways in which they recorded and interpreted Scotland at war.

We’ve plenty for fans of the outdoors too Huw Lewis-Jones brings the story of Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition to life in an illustrated talk, whilst Alan Rowan will lead us on a journey into the mountains at night - a true moonwalker! Jim Crumley joins us, drawing on his years of observing eagles to paint a picture of how they interact with each other and with the Scottish landscape. And local author Ruary Mackenzie Dodd will be taking a break from Springwatch, Countryfile and Nature Detectives to thrill nature lovers with his tales of dragonflies and their fight for survival. Before we sign off, we’ll hear tales from Theresa Talbot, direct from the Beechgrove Garden potting shed, and the great Lorraine Kelly will take us on a tour of her Scotland. Winter Words takes place over two weekends in some of the most picturesque surroundings you could wish for. Especially stunning with the snow-capped hills all around, it guarantees a visit to Highland Perthshire you will not forget! Tickets will be on sale from early December. Make sure you are on our mailing list or visit our website to stay in touch with the latest developments!

Classic Clapton

The Frank & Ella Show

30th Anniversary Tour

with Jacqui Dankworth & Todd Gordon

This two hour concert will take you on a journey through the music of Eric Clapton, including all of his best-loved hits: Wonderful Tonight, I Shot The Sheriff, Lay Down Sally, Crossroads, Tears in Heaven and Layla. There will even an unplugged segment, too! We’re delighted to welcome back Classic Clapton, the No.1 Eric Clapton Tribute Band, who return to PFT after their sensational debut here two years ago. Now celebrating 30 years on the road, the band once again features front-man Mike Hall, who not only looks like Eric, but sings and plays guitar like him too! This band of four excellent musicians will stunningly recreate Slowhand’s electrifying stage performances.

Two of Britain’s leading jazz vocalists, supported by a top-flight quartet of piano, bass, drums and saxophone, present a stylish, sophisticated and entertaining tribute to Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, featuring timeless songs such as Manhattan, The Lady Is A Tramp, Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye, Summer Wind, Night And Day, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, How High The Moon and New York, New York. Todd Gordon, renowned as one of world’s greatest singers in the classic Sinatra mould, is a familiar face to PFT audiences following his previous, highly popular appearances on the Pitlochry stage.

The whole of Clapton’s illustrious career is covered, from the early days, including Cream, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, Blind Faith and Derek & The Dominos, to the solo years.

The fantastic Jacqui Dankworth (daughter of the jazz musician, arranger and composer Sir John Dankworth and the singer Dame Cleo Laine) is one of the few modern vocalists to come up to Ella’s standards, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to PFT for the very first time.

Suggested by a Film by INGMAR BERGMAN Originally Produced and Directed on Broadway by Harold Prince Presented by arrangement with JOSEF WEINBERGER LIMITED on behalf of MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL of New York

Sweden, 1900: a not-so-chance encounter between glamorous actress Desirée Armfeldt and successful lawyer Fredrik Egerman threatens to rekindle an affair which ended 14 years before – despite the fact that, now, neither is exactly unattached . . .

In an effort to resolve these romantic complications, Desirée invites the main protagonists to a house party at the country estate of her mother, the formidable Madame Armfeldt. But as the wine flows, and the midsummer night casts its spell, just who will end up with whom?

Fredrik has recently married the beautiful Anne, many years his junior - but all is not well in the marital bed. Desirée is involved in an amour with the irredeemably pompous Count Carl-Magnus - and that’s not going quite to plan either. Worse still, Fredrik‘s son from his first marriage, the gloomy Henrik, has fallen hopelessly in love with his new step-mother. And Carl-Magnus’s devoted wife, Charlotte, is about to cast devotion aside, believing that her wandering husband deserves a taste of his own medicine . . .

Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece, based on Ingmar Bergman’s comedy of manners Smiles Of A Summer Night, is a deliciously funny exploration of love lost, found and rediscovered. With an achingly beautiful score - including The Miller’s Son, The Glamorous Life, A Weekend In The County and the magical Send In The Clowns - this 1973 Broadway classic, performed by a large cast of talented actor-musicians, promises to be the most elegant, romantic PFT musical yet. Could there be a better way to launch the 2015 Summer Season?

Winner of five Tony Awards “ . . . an evening of refined enchantment.” The Guardian

“ . . . piquant, poignant and wise.” The Daily Telegraph

“ . . . gloriously barbed bliss and bewitchment.” The Independent

“ . . . a glittering, sophisticated musical. Haunting, hilarious, hard edged and brilliant.” The Sunday Times

Tickets on sale from early November 2014.
