A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Past. Present. Future.
Wow… What a legacy. What a responsibility. I told the cast recently that Ken Gargaro’s A Lyrical Christmas Carol is older than any two of the student actors combined, they nodded with eyes that understood but could not comprehend.
The Past. Artists all over the city of Pittsburgh and beyond pause in the middle of the frantic holiday rush and remember they once shared a moment over the years with this company in this show. There are students in this very production whose PMT Christmas Carol appearances would require a third hand to count. Our own Conservatory Director was once Tiny Tim here at PMT. Listen. The Past speaks volumes.
The Future? 4 years ago, this production found its forever home in the Gargaro Theater. If you’ve somehow been able to avoid the presentation on the plans for this building, take my word for it that the
sky is the limit as this space will grow and modernize with this company. The Future is bright.
That leaves us here, in the Present. Every year, the greatest present we receive is the gift of time from all the families who recognize that this show cannot exist without the commitment and talent present in our Conservatory. As so many of you might already know, the students in this Conservatory have a very odd past time. They like to memorize a story, then tell it to others. But, they only memorize a part of it, they CANNOT tell the whole story without their friends, castmates, and crew. When that group does assemble to tell the story…well, I am constantly reminded how lucky I am to be present to see their joy and growth.
Celebrate our Past. Anticipate our Future. Today, while we tell our tale, be Present.
Happy Holidays, from our family to yours!
Nick Mitchell Director, A Lyrical Christmas Carol Pittsburgh Musical Theater
Welcome to A Lyrical Christmas Carol!
Thirty years ago, I participated in my first professional production as an actor. It was called A Lyrical Christmas Carol for Gargaro Productions. I was cast as Tiny Tim, my sister played Lily Cratchit, and my brother was Young Bob Cratchit. For six years, this was our Christmas, our joy, and our home.
My mother would pack us bologna and cheese sandwiches and CheezIts for rehearsal. The rehearsal hall at Stephen Foster in Oakland always had a certain smell that I remember to this day. I had the privilege of missing school for those famous student matinees, which was always a treat. All these memories and experiences shaped the artist I am today.
This show has always meant a great deal to me. Hearing the carols again, touching the props, (some of which are from the original 1991 production) and experiencing unforgettable moments from a
new generation of performers has brought me great joy. The joy I mention is the celebration of PMT passing on traditions and making new ones for these children, so that they can one day look back and remember their favorite snacks carefully packed for them, the smells and sights of the halls here in the West End, and those unforgettable carols.
I hope the audience feels that joy and connects with this beautiful story in a new and refreshing way. I wish everyone a wonderful, safe, and joyous, holiday season. And so, as Tiny Tim observed “God bless us, everyone”!
Enjoy the show!
Quinn Patrick Shannon PMT Conservatory Director Pittsburgh Musical Theater

Songs and Sketches for a Snowlarious Winter
SATURDAY, JANUARY 18th at 12:30PM & 6:00PM
This hilarious variety show is chock-full of one-liners, wintertime puns, and even a few knock-knock jokes! Silly skits include a pair of wisecracking reindeer, a snowflake ballet class, “Freeze-Whiz” (everyone’s favorite game show), and a directionally challenged family of geese.
Suited for ages 2 - 10 and enjoyed by all!
Tales and Treats is a children’s theater company run by students in the Teen Performance Intensive and Technical Theater Programs at PMT Conservatory.
Students act as the play directors, producers, actors, marketers, and designers!
By Andy Beck and Brian Fisher
Featuring additional music by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse
Recording Orchestrated by Tim Hayden
