A NOTE FROM PMT’S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Welcome to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast!

Dear friends, in a time when our world often feels filled with complexities and challenges, the chance to step into a different reality - one that values love, respect, and inner humanity - is a precious gift. This season, we invite you to leave the day-to-day behind and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Beauty and the Beast.

At its heart, Beauty and the Beast reminds us that love, respect, and collaboration are essential to revealing the core humanity inside of everyone regardless of outside appearances. Through the journey of Belle and the Beast, we see the courage it takes to see beyond appearances, to seek understanding over judgment, and to discover the beauty within. Their story encourages us all to embrace compassion and respect, both for ourselves and for one another, regardless of our differences.

This production is a beautiful example of the power of collaboration. We are honored to partner with the talented musicians of the CAPA Orchestra, whose artistry brings an extra depth and richness to this beloved story. Together, Pittsburgh Musical Theater and the CAPA Orchestra demonstrate that collaboration can create something truly extraordinary, enhancing our shared experience of this timeless tale.

Today’s performance is a celebration of magic, music, and story. It is also a reminder that kindness, empathy, and teamwork can transform lives. We hope that as the final note fades, you carry with you a renewed sense of the humanity and love that this story so powerfully champions.

Thank you for sharing in this journey with us. May it inspire and uplift you, today and always.

Warmly,

colleen Doyno (execuTive DirecTor, proDucer) has been with PMT since 1997. Ms. Doyno directed and choreographed countless shows for both the Professional and Conservatory theater companies. Several of these shows have been counted as the “Best of Pittsburgh” in the annual Pittsburgh Post-Gazette year in review; including the Conservatory Theater Company’s 2013 production of Miss Saigon, the first student show to be so honored. In 2013 Colleen’s achievements were recognized with the prestigious “Woman of Integrity” award and her commitment to mentoring young women into future leaders was honored when she was selected as a finalist for the 2013 “Athena” award. Ms. Doyno is a strong advocate for the development of the West End Community, which serves as PMT’s forever home. She has worked with Pittsburgh City Council, PA State and Allegheny County officials and the Mayor’s office to advance growth in the area. She has a deeply held belief in developing our children into healthy, self-assured, well-rounded individuals through the arts. This belief is at the heart of her educational philosophy and has guided the success of the conservatory under her direction. Many thanks to the never ending dedication of the PMT staff, the constant support of the PMT Board of Directors and the love of my amazing family.

countries worldwide. MTI is particularly dedicated to educational theatre, and has created special collections to meet the needs of various types of performers and audiences. MTI’s Broadway Junior® shows are 30- and 60-minute musicals for performance by elementary and middle school-aged performers, while MTI’s School Editions are musicals annotated for performance by high school students. MTI maintains its global headquarters in New York City with additional offices in London (MTI Europe) and Melbourne (MTI Australasia).

TiM rice has worked in music, theater, and film since 1965, when he met Andrew Lloyd Webber, a fellow struggling songwriter. Rather than pursue Tim’s ambitions to write rock or pop songs, they turned their attention to Andrew’s obsession - musical theater. Their first collaboration, The Likes Of Us (lyrics by Tim, music by Andrew), was an unsuccessful show based on the life of Dr. Barnardo, the Victorian philanthropist. Their next three works together were much more successful: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita. Tim has also worked with other distinguished popular composers such as Elton John (The Lion King, Aida), Alan Menken (Aladdin, King David, Beauty and the Beast), and Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (Chess). From Here to Eternity, with music by newcomer Stuart Brayson, coproduced with Lee Menzies, directed by Tamara Harvey, and with book by Bill Oakes, premiered in the West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2013. He formed his own cricket team in 1973 and was president of the MCC in 2002. In

2013, he wrote and presented a 52-part series for BBC Radio 2, American Pie, a trawl through the music and musicians of every American State. He has won several awards, mainly for the wrong thing or for simply turning up.
