Town U16 Girls restart season with a thumping win

Town U16 Girls 7 v 0 Horsforth SM

Town Girls U16s returned to league action for the first time in 2021 with a home game against Horsforth St Margarets. Town exploded out of the blocks as Liv Johnson scored after just 54 seconds. Horsforth SM came back strongly into the game but the Harrogate defence stood strong and doubled their lead on 20 minutes, Niamh Tyssen’s through ball finished with aplomb by Eva Jenkins. It was soon 3v0 as Ciara Streatfield hooked in a cross from the byline which was volleyed home at close range by Jenkins. Jenkins completed her hattrick from an assist by Maddie Ashby and then Tyssen made it 5v0 running on to a beautiful ball from the back from Robyn McKendrick. Having been foiled a few times by Horsforth’s excellent goalkeeper, Lydia Corner got her reward with a fine strike nestling in the top corner. Liv Johnson finished what she started with a powerful low strike from outside the area to wrap up a 7v0 victory. Much credit goes to a Horsforth SM side who, without any substitutes, never gave up throughout and forced Town goalkeeper Taia Port into some important saves. With non-elite and grassroots football able to restart at the end of March, the Garforth Junior Football League and the West Riding Girls Football League voted to conclude their league seasons, however, the leagues involving Town’s other grassroots teams and Town Ladies have voided the 2020/21 season.
