Tourism

In 1936, the League of Nations defined a foreign tourist as "someone traveling abroad for at least twenty-four hours". Its successor, the United Nations, amended this definition in 1945, by including “a maximum stay of six months.” Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purpose. International association of science experts in tourism (IASET) says, “tourism is the sum of the phenomena and relationships arising from the travel and stay of the non-residents in so far as they do not lead to permanent residence and are not connected with any earning activity.” In 1994, the United Nations identified three forms of tourism in its Recommendations on Tourism Statistics

Tourism Domestic tourism

involving residents of the given country traveling only within this country

Inbound tourism involving non-residents traveling in the given country

Outbound tourism involving residents traveling in another country

Tourism in Bangladesh ● Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) is an autonomous body under the ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the National Tourism Organization (NTO) established in the year 1972 ● National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (NHTTI) is an institute for professional tourism management training. ● Another important institution supporting the development of tourism is Bangladesh Tourism Board. It is affiliated with United Nations World Tourism Organizations (UNWTO) ● In today’s world of globalization, Tourism is considered as one of the world’s major and rapidly developing industry of the modern world. ● Tourism can add extra value for the Bangladesh’s economy. ● Bangladesh Government has taken necessary measures to encourage the private sector to play positive role in the development and diversification of tourist facilities

7. River Resort: One more popular location for a resort is near a river or backwaters of a dam. Being close to a water body allows the resorts to provide water sports like kayaking, rafting, boating and other water sports. Even a walk besides the river is very invigorating! Rivergate Resort at Karjat is one such resort that has a flowing river besides it. And they arrange nature trails with proper guides to bring you more close to nature.

History of Island Resorts Tourism in the Maldives began in 1972. A United Nations mission on development which visited the Maldives Islands in the 1960s did not recommend tourism, claiming that the islands were not suitable. Ever since the launch of the first the resort in Maldives in 1972, however, tourism in Maldives has flourished. The arrival of the first tourist's group is estimated to have occurred in February 1972. Tourism in Maldives started with just two resorts with a capacity of about 280 beds. Kurumba Island Resort is the first resort opened in Maldives, followed by Bandos Island Resort. At present, there are over 132 resorts located in the different atolls constituting the Republic of Maldives. Over the decades, the number of tourists in Maldives is rising continuously. In 2009, local island guesthouses started popping up in the Maldives. This was thanks to a change in regulations that began to officially allow tourists to stay among the local population, rather than just on privately owned resort islands. In 2015, a total of 1.2 million tourists visited the Maldives, and another 1.5 million visited in 2016.

FINDINGS : Positive • Variation in the elevation. •The humbleness of the design blends the complex into surrounding wilderness. • Only 7 trees were removed during the construction and the wood was also used into structures. •Greenery has been well designed • Use of simple building materials to achieve a mass which is in harmony with its surroundings.. • •Negative • No shaded connection among the buildings.. • All facilities served in different building • Services are in one side

ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED

Creating Relaxation in the midst of the nature for the tourists. As the site has a view of River , so I have to give maximum view from cottage and hotel rooms, dining, lobby. Situated in Moderate flash flood flow zone can be the negative side of this site. Outlook of the project must blend with nature and consider the building type of that area. The structure will be designed considering sustainability local labor, local material and local building method The design project should be cost efficient.
