NEW The most customer-centric upgrade from Cessna A Conversation with Christi Tannahill, Textron Aviation Senior Vice President of Customer Experience. GEN2 | ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

The “Gen2 upgrade” elevated comfort and productivity is the result of feedback collected through a customer advisory board that ensures Textron Aviation teams make the best possible improvements

Can you provide us with more details on this customer centric product development process?

At Textron Aviation, we’re committed to innovation and providing our customers with the right tools they need at the right time. Our Citation CJ4 Gen2 was built with customers in mind, following feedback from our Customer Advisory Board, to make the best possible improvements.

The improvements made on the Citation CJ4 Gen2 are a great example of collaboration between interiors, engineering and our customers.

The feedback that we received from customers included improving the air stair. With this in mind, we lowered the entry point, added a new handrail and can offer a customizable logo light. Stuart Fred, one of our advisory board members, explained the air stair was a key inclusion as it is the first thing you notice when walking up to your jet.

Other improvements were incorporating a sink onboard the jet, allowing the seats to lay flat and making the cabin management system more intuitive.

We took all their feedback on board and successfully implemented many of the feature requests in the jet’s upgrade, further demonstrating our commitment to taking our customer’s vision, passion and inspiration and turning them into a reality.

At NBAA BACE 2021, Textron Aviation extended the Gen2 upgrade to the entry-level light Citation M2 Model and the midsize Citation XLS. Can you walk us through the set of improvements introduced with each of these models?

For the Citation M2 Gen2 upgrade we wanted to strengthen the pilot and passenger comfort as well as productivity. The upgrade brings an enhanced cabin experience that includes premium interior styling, ambient accent lighting, re mastered illuminated cupholders and additional inflight accessible storage. Productivity has also been improved by including wireless charging capabilities and USB A ports at each cabin seat. In the cockpit, three inches of legroom has been added to the co pilot position for enhanced comfort. Additionally, cabin entry threshold materials have been improved for durability and maintainability.

For the Citation XLS Gen2 the biggest improvement that customers and pilots notice is the elevated ramp presence, with the new lighted airstair door. A new entry curtain has also been added for inclement weather protection on the ground and improved cabin acoustics in flight. Once onboard, customers will be immersed with natural lighting and elegant styling and materials. A new pedestal seat design enhances passenger comfort with individual controls, new styling and optional quilting, while the forward couch features an optional fold down capability, which allows passengers to access baggage in flight. In addition to these modern design elements, the XLS Gen2 also features a state of the art intuitive wireless cabin management system that includes a touchscreen moving map monitor, wireless charging, USB charging ports at each cabin seat and optional Bongiovi Immersive speaker less sound system.

With Gen2, it is easy to notice a particular design harmony with the Cessna flagship Citation Longitude. How much did the Gen2 benefit from the Super Midsize cabin design and technologies? The Cessna Citation Longitude is the flagship in the Citation fleet, designed to offer transatlantic range, advanced engineering and an unforgettable cabin experience. So naturally, there is an overlap in features from the Citation Longitude that have been implemented in the Gen2 upgrades, from the lay flat seats to the enhanced cabin management system.

Sustainability is a major focus for the global aviation industry. One particular commitment from Textron Aviation is pursuing sustainable solutions throughout the interior design of its aircraft cabins. Can you give us more details on how you are able to achieve this commitment? Sustainability has been a focus for the global business aviation industry and particularly for us at Textron Aviation for many years. We are focused on continuing to offer sustainable solutions when it comes to interiors, from green textiles, carpets and wood veneers.

We use textiles, carpets and leather that are 100% natural and cradle to cradle certified. This means that at the end of their useful life, they biodegrade in a way that is safe for human health and the environment. Not only are these materials safe for the planet, but they require far less energy to manufacture compared with artificial fibers. Our designers and suppliers are conscientious of making sure nothing goes to waste. Surplus leathers, wood and textiles are formed into new composite options to create a modern look. Incorporating sustainable options in aircraft interiors is just one way Textron Aviation limits its impact on the environment. In addition to having a robust recycling program and wastewater treatment system, the company provides Sustainable Aviation Fuel with aircraft deliveries and meets nearly all of its headquarter operation’s energy needs with wind energy.

THE NEW CHALLENGER 3500

Introducing the next level of cabin experience in the Super-Midsize category

In September 2021, Bombardier announced the introduction of the latest variant of its very popular super midsize Challenger 300 series. The new improved variant marketed under the Challenger 3500 designation has replaced the 2014 Challenger 350 variant and features a new state of the art redesigned cabin.

Laurence Casia, Manager, Industrial Design and Cabin Innovation, answers EWM questions on the Challenger 3500 advanced features

| ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

The new Challenger 3500 exceptional cabin is benefiting from a large set of technologies developed for the Ultra Long Range Global 7500. Can you give us a quick overview of some of these advanced features that passengers can now experience on a super-midsize jet?

With the Challenger 3500 we had the opportunity to leverage the know how and innovation from our Global 7500 and inspire ourselves from the unrivalled Global 7500 business jet cabin to prioritize what our customers value most: a truly exceptional and intuitive cabin experience.

We crafted its intelligent and sustainably minded cabin features to combine comfort with function. Bombardier’s exclusive and patented Nuage seat is a perfect case in point. The seat, which represents the first new business aircraft seat configuration in three decades and had previously been exclusive to the Global aircraft, is now part of the Challenger 3500 standard configuration the first time a seat of this calibre is available in the super mid size segment.

For home like entertainment on board, the standard 24 inch 4K displays were introduced to the Challenger 3500, the only ones in its class. The immersive sound system of the Challenger 3500 not only provides an evenly dispersed sound throughout the cabin but also features an aspect it inherited from the Global 7500: the audio “sweet spot” function, which allows travellers to choose an optimum sound experience wherever they are seated.

The Challenger 3500 also introduces several industry first features itself, including a voice controlled cabin, 4K entertainment and first in class wireless chargers throughout the cabin, as well as USB C connectors at every seat. With the Challenger 3500, we also introduced new, sustainable cabin materials that we have now started offering on other Bombardier aircraft as well. Another first in the business aviation industry was the introduction of the eco app (eWAS Pilot with OptiFlight® from SITA) which allows crews to optimize their flight profiles, maximizing fuel efficiency, lowering CO2 emissions, and improving situational awareness for a safer, more efficient and comfortable flight.

The most noticeable feature inherited from the Global 7500 is definitely the new Bombardier’s patented Nuage seat. Can you walk us through some of the seat features and the challenge to integrate it into a supermidsize cabin?

We are very proud to be bringing our patented Nuage seat to the Challenger 3500 aircraft, the first time a seat of this calibre is available in the super midsize segment.

It brings a new level of comfort, ergonomics, and productivity compared to previous designs. The Nuage seat aboard the Challenger 3500 has all the exclusive design features that we debuted on the Global 7500 aircraft, such as the floating base, tilt link system, and pivoting head rest. The one of a kind floating base houses a novel fluid movement system for effortless tracking, and a thoughtfully engineered swivel axis maintains an intuitively centered point of rotation in any position. The unique tilting headrest provides an essential ergonomic neck support for perfect comfort. However, the Nuage seat on the Challenger 3500 is slightly different than the seat introduced on the Global 7500 aircraft. While all its exclusive design features remain the same, we refined its proportions so that they are better suited to the Challenger 3500 cabin. This resulted in an added feeling of spaciousness in the cabin, the widest in its class. We also introduced the swept back leg rest, which allows one’s heels to rest behind the knees like in an office seat, which is especially relevant in a business jet where productivity is so important. These changes are essential for ensuring the utmost comfort for our clients without sacrificing quality or aesthetics to create the most elevated seating experience yet.

ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE | 21

The new cabin is clearly developed to suit the new generation of highly connected passengers. Can you tell us more about the Challenger 3500 cabin management system features?

The Challenger 3500 aircraft has been designed as an extension of our customers’ home and office to maximize productivity and comfort. Passengers won’t have to pause their work and life while in the air. With the high speed Ka band internet, they can stay fully connected for video conferencing, but also to relax and stream their favourite series or play a video game. The Challenger 3500 cabin also includes the only 24 in (61 cm) 4K display in its class for stunning picture quality and crisp, vivid colours. Another extension of the home environment is voice control.

We are increasingly used to it in our cars and our homes – why not also in our jets? With the Challenger 3500, Bombardier was the first in the industry to introduce a voice controlled cabin, seamlessly integrating it into the aircraft’s cabin management system. No more navigating menus: travellers can say what they want to control lighting, temperature, entertainment and access real time flight information through the aircraft’s voice control. It has been specifically designed to work without an internet connection for added convenience and privacy.

First in class wireless chargers, which are conveniently located throughout the cabin, allow travellers to charge their compatible phones without the hassle of power cables and chargers. And the haptic touch technology,

another first on a business jet, further simplifies the user experience: similar to the tap or quick vibration you feel when interacting with your phone, the elegantly designed glass cabin control switches vibrate when pressed, providing instant feedback that the command has been successfully activated.

The Challenger 350 is the most successful super midsize business jet within fleet operators such as fractional ownership providers or charter operators. Are there design considerations in the new Challenger 3500 cabin for such high utilization operations?

With the Challenger 3500 we built on the aspects of its predecessors that have made the Challenger platform the best selling super mid size platform for the past seven years. Productivity onboard is a big consideration for fleet customers, and we paid special attention to this in upgrading the cabin. High speed Ka band internet allows passengers to continue working in flight as they would in the office. The Nuage seat with the added swept back leg rest is perfect for office like work, and the USB C chargers, conveniently located on every seat, allow for uninterrupted charging.

Since some passengers use the plane via fleet or charter operators, and are less frequent flyers, intuitive interfaces are that much more important for a flawless onboard experience. Having the possibility to manage the cabin like they would their car with voice control, for example, or through a new intuitive app is a big contribution to an

22 | ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

intuitive flight experience, as are wireless chargers and haptic controls.

And of course: no other aircraft in its class beats the Challenger 3500 in terms of reliability. Fleet operators certainly value the fact that the aircraft is designed to meet the most demanding of operations, both in terms of performance but also inside the cabin.

Bombardier is recognized as an industry leader in sustainability. In a clear testimonial to this commitment, the Challenger 3500 is now offering environmentally friendly material options. Can you provide more details on these materials and their popularity with customers?

The Challenger 3500 was built through sustainable lens and is the first super mid sized aircraft with an Environmental Product Declaration. Beyond the production process for the aircraft itself, our team worked very hard to offer our customers high quality, luxurious cabin materials that truly have a lower environmental footprint. For each material we considered, our engineers looked at the whole production cycle, from the raw material, its extraction, the production of the material to its applications and finishes on the aircraft. We obtained the necessary information for a full lifecycle analysis of the material from our suppliers, and, in some cases, also guided them towards a more sustainable production model.

The Challenger 3500 aircraft introduced a selection of innovative, sustainable cabin interior materials that minimize the impact on the environment, including upcycled fabrics, rapidly renewable wood options and natural and more locally sourced fiber based materials, all of which deliver high quality finishes without compromising aesthetics, comfort, or functionality. Some examples of these materials are eucalyptus hardwood veneer, which is a rapidly renewable resource since growth only takes a few years, or upcycled wool, which is a durable and versatile seat cover to mix into designer cabin palettes. Finding high end interior options that are genuinely more sustainable and satisfy all the safety requirements is not easy, but we are committed to this and continue to work hard to significantly expand the offering. We seek to give our customers every chance possible to be able to experience the luxury and quality that are standard for our aircraft, all the while choosing materials that are more durable, lightweight, and contribute to the future of aviation innovation.

Our customers are increasingly asking about these options, and many of them welcome their contribution to their own environmental targets.

With a large fleet of In-Service Challenger 300 and 350 reaching their cabin refurbishment milestone. Will some of the Challenger 3500 cabin features be offered as a retrofit package for earlier generation Challenger 300 and 350?

While our expanding service network provides an impressive offering for turnkey refresh, refurbishment and upgrades, only the Challenger 3500 aircraft will offer the new cabin features.

SERVING A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS EMBRAER PRAETOR 600

Today’s entrepreneurs need time and technologically advanced tools to efficiently and seamlessly lead the way. The Praetor 600 is one of these tools that combine the range of a Large category jet, the airfield performance of light jets, and the advanced technologies only found in long range jets.

| ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

AconversationwithEmbraeronsomeofthePraetor600keydesignpoints.

Embraer is one of the most focused Business jets manufacturers in the medium size jets category, with the midsize Praetor 500 and the Super midsize Praetor 600. Can you tell us more about this market segment?

We see continued demand in medium segments fueled by a growing cycle of current owners’ aircraft replacements and new, first time buyers entering the market.

The First Time Buyers (FTB) share of deliveries in the first seven months of 2022 remained strong, above the historical average in small and midsize segments.

A third of all deliveries went to FTBs: 33%, well above the historic average of 10 to 15% of yearly demand.

Both the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 are well accepted in major segments including fractional and corporate flight departments (including a few Fortune 100 companies) and with individual buyers. Perfectly positioned, these jets have a strong reputation and expanding international fleet.

Both Praetor family members are well positioned to dominate the segment. For example, the Praetor 500 is the fastest in its class, helping customers save time and reach more destinations in the utmost comfort. Due to this, and among many other advantages that the aircraft offers, it’s a top fractional choice with FlexJet having the largest fleet. Regarding the Praetor 600, it’s well accepted in the market with a best in class range and especially the ability to fly non stop from New York to London.

With the Praetor 600, Embraer completely disturbed the rules in the Super Midsize category with a business jet that combines the range of a large jet, the airfield performance of a light jet, and advanced technologies that we usually only found on Long range jets. Was this done on purpose, or by coincidence? Our goal was to redefine what a super midsize jet could do, so yes, this was a strategic choice. Due to the innovative nature of the aircraft, the Praetor 600 is the only super midsize jet that consistently delivers the London to New York flight mission. We wanted to maximize the advantages that this business jet offers by expanding the flight range and creating a truly disruptive experience in the cabin and the cockpit. After combining meticulous engineering, pinpoint design work, and cutting edge technologies, that’s exactly what we did.

The range of the Praetor 600 is definitively a game changer in this segment, can you tell us more about how operators take advantage of this range boost?

Today’s entrepreneurs need time and technologically advanced tools to efficiently and seamlessly lead the way. The commanding range of the Praetor 600 bridges oceans easily, without any compromises necessary. As mentioned, the Praetor 600 takes flights from London to New York in stride, while São Paulo to Miami, or Dubai to London, is also an easy hop at long range cruising speed.

ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE | 25

To take advantage of the range capability, the Cabin should also be optimized for long missions, can you tell us more about some of the interior innovations?

The aircraft provides best in class cabin altitude to keep passengers feeling fresh and rested. So, while you’re flying at 45,000 feet, you will feel like you are at 5,800 feet half a mile below the altitude of Aspen. Or if you’re flying at 41,000 feet, you will feel like you are at 4,800 feet.

Superior craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail are evident throughout the elegant six foot tall, flat floor cabin from the fully reclining design of the seats with full berthing capability to their optimal placement beside spacious windows. Furthermore, the aircraft has the most generous baggage compartment in its segment, as well as a practical amount of internal storage space. The aircraft also boasts state of the art connectivity with Viasat Ka band with a typical speed beyond 40 Mbps, and Gogo AVANCE L5 to keep passengers reliably connected during the flight in North America. In addition, the aircraft’s Honeywell Ovation™ Select Cabin Management Suite will spoil you with full 1080P HD video streaming and immersive audio. The combination of comfort and high tech features make the Praetor 600’s cabin perfect for work, relaxation, or entertainment.

The Praetor 600 is the only jet in its class to feature Active Turbulence Reduction as Embraer is the first and only manufacturer to introduce full fly by wire to this category.

26 | ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

The Praetor is also available as a conversion modification for the predecessor Legacy models, how popular are these conversions?

To date, more than 20 conversions from a Legacy 450 to Praetor 500 have been completed, and some more are already scheduled. These customers are taking advantage of the additional range provided by the modification.

Today’s advanced Business jets and their propulsion engines are designed with the environment in mind. What are some of the Praetor 600 innovations in terms of environment and sustainability?

The Praetor 600 is equipped with the quietest and most efficient engines in the market, along with new technology for lower emissions. Last year, we introduced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the Embraer Executive Jet headquarters in Melbourne, Florida and are working to make our portfolio compatible with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Currently, the engines are compatible for use up to 50% SAF.

Even with the low availability of SAF on the market, we are incentivizing sustainable practices through our carbon offsetting program. At EBACE 2022, we announced a partnership with 4AIR, in order to provide carbon offsetting for new Embraer Executive Care customers (first 25 hours of flight time) in their first year of ownership.

The E2VS (Embraer Enhanced Vision System) and SVGS (Synthetic Vision Guidance System) allow the pilots to benefit from additional landing margins, so the Praetor can land under weather conditions that other aircraft without the system can’t, avoiding diversions, cancelations and waste of fuel.

Aside from the aircraft, Embraer is committed to sustainable action through achieving zero emissions and supporting civil aviation’s

Commitment to Fly Net Zero by 2050, though we are committed to carbon neutral operations by 2040.

The Praetor family is the only midsize family that features full fly by wire technology. How do you take advantage of this advanced technology?

The Praetor’s full fly by wire with side stick controls reduces pilot workload and provides a safer, smoother flight experience. Full fly by wire also enables access to more airports because the aircraft can land and takeoff at lower speeds than products of similar weight, thrust and size.

As an added advantage is the savings in maintenance the fly by wire technology eliminates several tasks related to cables, pulleys and quadrants that may require removal of seats and floor panels offering lower costs and downtime, reflecting in more time in the air.

One of the key advantages of Fly by wire for passenger comfort is the Active Turbulence Reduction. How does that work?

Active Turbulence Reduction is made possible because of the aircraft’s full fly by wire controls. It automatically senses and dampens the effects of turbulence, providing a smoother ride that is more conducive to relaxing or working.

FALCON 6X

ULTRA-WIDEBODY JETS FROM DASSAULT AVIATION

Introducing a new era of | ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

The Falcon 6X is one of these rare Business jets where it looks the aircraft was designed from the inside out. How does the ultra wide cross section contribute to the exceptional balance of the 6X award winning Cabin?

The Falcon 6X was built with the customer experience as the foremost consideration. Through thoughtful design and space management, we've tried to envelop the customer with a comfortable and productive experience. Everything they need to adjust comfort settings or use the entertainment system, for example, is within arm's length. We've also engineered the extra space in this cabin to allow customers to move fluidly from one section to another, much the way they would in their home or office. We want the aircraft to be a natural extension of their normal environments.

The Falcon 6X interior was developed using a sensory design approach. Can you explain how this methodology works and what benefits it brings to the passenger flight experience?

A tremendous amount of thought and science underscores the 6X cabin design so that the sensory experience for our customers (sight, sounds, touch) is both refreshing and energizing during times of productivity and comfortable and rejuvenating when customers need to rest. For example, the use of indirect lighting through large cabin windows helps to mimic natural daylight cycles. We achieved significant levels of vibration and noise reduction through innovative designs and use of new materials. This

reduces fatigue for customers over longer flights. Ultimately, we want the experience to be so seamless that the customer forgets they are in an aircraft. Let’s look at the key sensory elements. Light is very important. The Falcon 6X’s extra large windows (30 of them) both brighten the cabin naturally and provide unprecedented views, with a total of nearly 5,000 square inches and the highest percentage of window area in its class. At night, of course, you rely on cabin lighting which is excellent and infinitely variable to achieve different mood effects. Touch is important. Simple, intuitive touch controls right at your fingertips makes for a pleasant interactive experience. Styling also sets a mood. Cabin seats and furniture can be heavy and bulky looking (old school) or light and trim, the 6X approach. The 6X executive seats have open space in the armrests. You lose nothing in seated comfort, but suddenly everything looks lighter and more open. In general, you’ll find cabin furniture more rounded, more flowing, which conveys a visual impression of more openness and space. So you have a truly big cabin, which visually looks even bigger.

The Falcon 6X features an industry first skylight in the traditionally dark entryway/galley area. Why was this design not adopted on the 10X? Will this become a 6X signature feature?

The simple answer to this is that the 10X has four even larger traditional side windows in the galley area for natural light. The 6X has two, supplemented by the skylight which is a signature touch, something unique to the 6X within the entire business aviation fleet.

Can you give us the latest status of the flight testing program progress?

In addition to the two fully outfitted production test aircraft already flying, the G700 flight test program includes five aircraft. The program has successfully accomplished critical phases of flight tests, including envelope expansion, flutter, aerodynamic stalls, flying qualities, flight control systems and air data testing, as well as cold weather and high altitude testing and all required structural testing.

The G700 will be certified as a new Gulfstream GVI variant although it is sharing most of its cockpit and fly by wire technology with the Gulfstream GVII (G500 / G600 Family). How is this commonality benefiting the G700 program testing and maturity?

We expect the G700 and G800 to share the same GVIII pilot type rating. We are also working to minimize training requirements between the GVII (G400, G500 and G600) and the GVIII. The Symmetry Flight Deck is already proving its performance on the in service G500 and G600, and the maturity of this technology is serving the G700 flight test program well.

One particular aspect of the G700 flight test program is the extensive use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Were there any challenges to introducing SAF in such an early phase of the G700 program?

Gulfstream uses SAF extensively for corporate, demonstration, customer support and flight test flying. It is a drop in fuel with the same characteristics as Jet A and presents no challenges in any phase of the flight test program.

The G700 was already able to set a certain number of city-pair speed records. Can you give us a few examples of the G700 advanced capabilities you were able to demonstrate?

The G700 has been performing flawlessly. Of the eight international city pair speed records the G700 has already set, those include Savannah, Georgia, to Doha and Doha to Paris at Mach 0.90 and Houston, Texas, to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at Mach 0.87.

When entering service, the G700™ will feature the most spacious, innovative, and flexible cabin in the purpose-built business jet category. Tim O’Hara, Director, Design Innovation, Gulfstream, answers EWM questions on the G700 state-of-the-art cabin.

Gulfstream is now flying two fully outfitted test aircraft to ensure the maturity, durability, and comfort of the many cabin elements and technologies specifically developed for the ultra long range jet. Can you give a quick overview of some of the new features introduced in the G700 Cabin?

The first fully outfitted G700 features the industry’s only ultragalley, with more than 10 feet of counter space; a dedicated crew space; an entertainment and presentation area; a six place conference and dining area; and a state room with full length wardrobe. We debuted the award winning G700 seat design on this aircraft and have been receiving great customer feedback on comfort and style as it has been flying around the world for customer showings.

The second G700 test aircraft, which made its first flight in September, will ensure the maturity,

durability and comfort of more cabin elements that were introduced with the aircraft’s launch in 2019, including the all new ultrahigh definition dynamic circadian lighting system, an optional feature capable of replicating sunlight. The Gulfstream designed system mixes warm white, cool white and amber LED lights and spans from 0.01 brightness to 100%, allowing it to simulate sunrise to sunset. The lighting can also be programmed individually for each cabin zone, tailored to passenger preferences and specific activities, such as dining or working.

As with all Gulfstream’s interiors, the G700 combines a low cabin altitude with 100% fresh, never recirculated air and the largest windows in the industry, allowing natural light to flood the cabin. On the production test aircraft, this healthy environment promotes wellness and is complemented with bespoke furnishings, such as curved side ledges and arm rests and arched doorways that provide a calming visual experience.

ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE | 43

Some design elements of the G700 Interior are already recognizable, like the new award winning G700 Classic Seat. Can you tell us more about the development and design process of this G700 masterpiece? The seating Gulfstream designed for the G700 combines comfort, flexibility and customization. We researched and developed seating profiles that provide ideal bolstering to reduce high pressure areas, something that was verified through customer testing over countless hours in simulated experiences. We made subtle changes, too, to increase comfort, such as incorporating seat controls into the arm rest to facilitate minimal movement on the passengers’ part. In the all new banquette seating, we created a fully stowable center arm rest to deploy completely and seamlessly, enhancing comfort.

The G700 introduces the industry’s longest galley with 10 feet of counter space. The new design is transforming this service zone into a true social area. Can you give us more details on some of the design elements and available features of this “Ultragalley” offering?

Gulfstream customers have told us they want their on ground lifestyle to extend to their aircraft, and when we designed the G700, our goal was to exceed those expectations. Business jet travelers want their gourmet kitchen on the aircraft, whether for their personal chefs, catering or those who enjoy cooking for friends and family. The G700’s ultra galley meets these needs with more than 10 feet of counter space, the largest in the industry, and more storage and refrigeration.

| ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

The first G700 outfitted cabins show a serene atmosphere interior designed in Gulfstream’s minimalist aesthetic philosophy. Can you walk us through some of the selected materials and color tones?

Many customers are expanding the use of natural materials on their aircraft, whether that is a rare wood veneer, hand stitched leathers or hand woven wool rugs. We are also seeing a subtle blend of composites with the natural material, to provide design embellishments or accents.

A Cabin of that size should offer a tremendous amount of customization opportunities. How do you ensure the customer’s interior personalization remains an enjoyable experience?

Business jet travelers want to personalize their aircraft, and Gulfstream gives them opportunities to do that through recessed panels in a veneer, for instance, that can be used for built in custom artwork. Even the latches on cabinets allow for custom inserts to create those small personal touches that make the space their own. As more passengers' access entertainment exclusively on tablets, the need for mounted monitors decreases, and that also opens more space for artwork or other customization on bulkheads.

ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE

Can you tell us more about the Advance2 eco system and the portfolio of technologies it is bringing to the long-range business jets market?

Rolls Royce engines have been hugely competitive in today’s market, but to keep pace with ever changing, global demands, future generation of engines need to be led by constant, thoughtful innovation. When we started our Advance2 technology demonstrator programme a few years ago we set ourselves the goal to develop the most efficient engine core in business aviation. This core forms the heart of today’s successful Pearl engine family and features a whole string of innovative technologies, all of it aiming at delivering a world class environmental performance, but also engine maturity from day 1. Since its unveiling the new family has established itself as today’s leading engine family in business aviation.

The Pearl 15 is the first member of the Pearl engine family to enter service in 2019 with Bombardier’s latest generation Global 6500 and 5500. Can you give us an idea about the advanced features of this engine compared to the previous generation BR710?

In May 2018, Rolls Royce unveiled the first member of a new engine family, built for the next generation of business jets. The Pearl 15, the sole engine for Bombardier’s Global 5500 and Global 6500, is the first of the state of the art Pearl engine family and the first engine based on the new core design developed as part of the Advance2 technology demonstrator programme. The new core, which features in the Pearl 15, is the most efficient engine core available across

the business aviation sector. While using the same outer dimensions as the BR710 it enables our customers to fly farther, faster, cleaner and quieter. In fact, you are able to travel at up to Mach 0.90, while benefitting from a 7% improvement in the SFC, or specific fuel consumption, compared to the BR710. You’ll have up to 9% more thrust during take off, yet the engine is two decibels quieter and has world leading emissions performance, including best in class NOx emissions. It also helps the aircraft connect cities that others can’t reach, thanks to increased range and impressive performance in challenging conditions, like hot and high operations.

The innovative technologies we have used are:

The Advance2 core architecture,

a new high pressure compressor (new 10 stage HP compressor with 6 titanium blisked stages, and advanced materials to achieve higher temperatures and record level pressure ratios of 24:1),

an ultra low emissions combustor (new tiled combustor enables the engine to significantly reduce NOx emissions adding 20% higher margin to the already very good levels of the BR710),

a new 2 stage shroudless HP turbine (enables a higher temperature and faster core) and

a high efficiency, enhanced 3 stage LP turbine

All combined with advanced cooling, world leading engine health monitoring capabilities, high temperature materials and an ultra slimline nacelle.

ELITE WINGS MAGAZINE | 47

The Gulfstream G700 is undergoing its last phase of flight testing and certification powered by the more powerful Pearl 700 engine. Can you walk us through the improvement this engine incorporates over the current BR725 powering the Gulfstream G650?

In October 2019 the company presented the Pearl 700, the exclusive powerplant for Gulfstream’s new flagship aircraft, the G700 and G800. The engine has received official certification by the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in September 2022.

The Pearl 700 combines the Advance2 engine core, the most efficient core available across the business aviation sector, with a brand new low pressure system, resulting in an eight per cent increase in take off thrust at 18,250lbf compared to the BR725 engine. The engine offers a five per cent higher efficiency, while maintaining its class leading low noise and emissions performance. The result is an engine that is highly efficient, but also able to propel customers as fast as Mach 0.925.

The main difference between the Pearl 15 and the Pearl 700 (and also the Pearl 10X) is the brand new low pressure system, with its blisk fan and a 4 stage high efficient LP turbine. The fan system is a novelty in this class and the first Rolls Royce blisked fan in Business Aviation.

But this technology isn’t new for us we introduced blisked compressors in the business aviation market with the BR725 and as you may know the Rolls Royce

LiftSystem of the STOVL variant of the F 35 Joint Strike Fighter also features a blisk. The fan blisk is manufactured using a highly complex process called friction welding. The fan with its 24 blades has a greater diameter than the BR725, all within the same nacelles outer dimensions. But not only that, we could achieve ~10% weight savings relative to BR725 bladed fan and reduce speed enabling efficiency improvement.

The newly designed, highly efficient and ultra compact 4 stage low pressure turbine is key to enable the higher fan power and therefore the increased thrust. It features a state of the art 3d airfoil geometry, using latest technology from our large airline engines.

The Pearl 700 has also been tested on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This test demonstrated once again that our current engines for large civil and business jet applications can operate with 100% SAF as a full “drop in” option, laying the groundwork for moving this type of fuel towards certification. At present, SAF is only certified for blends of up to 50% with conventional jet fuel and can be used on all current Rolls Royce engines. The unblended fuel has the potential to reduce net CO2 lifecycle emissions by more than 75% compared to conventional jet fuel, with the possibility of further reductions in future.

On May 6th, 2021, Dassault Aviation announced the launch of its new Ultra Long Range Flagship Falcon 10X to be powered by Rolls Royce Pearl 10X engines. How is this engine program progressing?

The latest and most powerful member of this engine family is the Pearl 10X, powering Dassault’s brand new flagship Falcon 10X. The Rolls Royce Pearl® 10X engine development programme is making good progress and has successfully cumulated more than 1,000 testing hours, both on the Advance 2 demonstrator and the Pearl 10X engine configuration. The first dedicated Pearl 10X test engine ran for the first time earlier this year and surpassed its target thrust levels on the first test run, making it the most powerful business aviation engine in the Rolls Royce portfolio. All testing conducted so far has proved the reliability of the engine and shown it will meet the performance requirements to power Dassault’s Falcon 10X. Rolls Royce is now in final preparation for ground tests of the first full powerplant including its new nacelle and EBU (Engine Build Up).

So far, the development programme has included the rigorous testing of the new ultra low emissions ALM combustor, which is compatible with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and the new accessory gearbox, which allows for higher additional power extraction. One of the next milestones will be the start of the flight test campaign on Rolls Royce’s flying test bed in 2023.

Rolls Royce is known for offering one of the most comprehensive Power By the Hour engine programs in Business Aviation designated under CorporateCare®. During the 2018 NBAA BACE conference, Rolls Royce introduced CorporateCare Enhanced. What are the additional services introduced with this new offering? Services are a key differentiator in business aviation and being recognized as #1 is our goal. We can only do this by continuously improving and listening to our customers and focusing on their needs. A good example of that is CorporateCare® Enhanced. The enhanced service was introduced as standard for all new CorporateCare customers and is also available as an upgrade to existing contracts. The CorporateCare Enhanced service covers a wide range of additional services items for the AE 3007 and Tay engines, including troubleshooting and mobile repair team travel costs. G650

When entering into service in 2012, the G650 (Model GVI) was the largest and fastest business jet ever built. Currently dethroned by Bombardier Global 7500. The 7,000nm, G650 was first unveiled in 2008, followed by the first flight on November 25, 2009.

With the G650, Gulfstream was able to bring to market the most incredible high speed wing, the 36 degree sweep, highly clean wing, enabled one of the flight test vehicles to reach Mach 0.995 during flutter testing as early as December 27, 2009.

In 2014, Gulfstream introduced the higher MTOW G650ER model, busting the traditional 100,000 lb business aircraft MTOW limit. The ER additional 4,000 lb fuel capacity enabled an additional 500nm range increase compared to the standard model.

GLOBAL

In 2010 Bombardier launched a new flagship, ultra long range global aircraft family with a four zone cabin Global 7000 and a 7,900 nm three zone cabin Global 8000. The Global 7000 achieved certification in December 2018 and was able to demonstrate a 300nm higher range capability. With a 7,700 nm range, the 7000 model was re branded to the Global 7500

The Global 8000 was put on hold for several years until May 2022 when Bombardier decided to re launch the program as a higher speed, longer range version of the Global 7500. The new 8,000 nm will leverage the capabilities of the Global 7500 high speed transonic wing that was able to demonstrate a Mach 0.94 MMO speed. Expected to enter service in 2025, the Global 8000 aircraft development is ongoing.

For current Global 7500 operators, the performance enhancements on the Global 8000 will be retrofittable when the aircraft enters service in 2025
