Framlingham and Saxmundham Cats Protection September 2021
We were delighted to attend our first fundraising event since the end of 2019. This was at the Fair on the Green in Southwold on the first Sunday in August. Despite a couple of showers, most of the day was dry. Our small team of volunteers had a successful day selling books, bric-a-brac, giftware and the ever popular tombola. Date for your diary: Our Christmas Fayre will be at the Village Hall in Reydon, on November 13th. We look forward to seeing our supporters and hope to attract many more new ones. We'd very much like to hold other events but are in need of more volunteers to help with the organisation. If you feel you'd

It was a lovely sunny day and a marquee (loaned by the Framlingham Sports Club) was erected with the NHS banner and flag on display. The 5th of July was designated by the Government as a national day of celebration to support and thank all the NHS staff for their wonderful commitment and dedication for the last eighteen months during this terrible Covid pandemic. Freemasons across Suffolk and England pledged their support with fundraising activities and opening their Masonic centres and inviting the public to attend. The Fidelity Lodge at Framlingham Masonic Hall in New Road was no exception and although invited guests were unable to attend, about twenty members of the Fidelity Lodge and their wives and friends came along to show their support. Deben Rotary news
U3A East Suffolk plans a return to normal activity
The new Rotary year at Deben Rotary is now well under way under the leadership of our new President, Deirdre Griffin. We've resumed meetings at Ufford Park in a Covid-safe manner, and by the time you read this, we'll have held our Charity Golf day, raising money for Woodbridge Riding for the Disabled and our Club charitable trust. We also attended the recent Kesgrave Fun Day, where our golf putting game and 'Splat the Rat' proved to be very popular with the public. Our charity busk is on Saturday September 4th in the Thoroughfare in Woodbridge. At a recent meeting at Ufford Park, President Deirdre presents our Community Award to Emma Needs, who is the secretary of the Melton Good Neighbours Scheme. During the pandemic, the scheme has given invaluable service to the people of Melton, assisting with shopping, picking up prescriptions and generally

The Suffolk Local History Council

Recorder for Aldeburgh? The Suffolk Local History Council (SLHC) runs a Recorders Scheme throughout Suffolk. We administer a network of volunteers to ensure that the 'present' is adequately recorded at local level for the 'future'. A Recorder will note significant happenings in their parish and collect their local parish magazines, leaflets, election pamphlets and
newspaper cuttings. At the end of each year, they're asked to submit a short report summarising the activities of their parish. The reports are deposited at the Suffolk Record Office and available to future researchers together with the collected items. If you're interested, please look at the Recorders Pack by visiting: www.slhc.org.uk to acquaint
yourself with the guidelines of the scheme. You do not need to be a historian. You do not need any qualifications, other than an interest in your parish. In return, you'll receive a copy of the SLHC newsletter and be invited to the annual conference specifically for Local Recorders. To volunteer to help in this important work, please contact: recorders@slhc.org.uk. 173499
Sat 11th September Mills Grammar School Association Summer Reunion and AGM at Thomas Mills High School 2pm-5pm. All Old Girls & Boys are welcome. Traditional 'Mills Tea' is provided. Kind regards, Liz Kerridge, Treasurer, Mills Grammar School Association 01394 420316.
It seems very unseasonal to be having another summer with no art exhibitions, fetes, garden parties etc. Weekends seem strangely quiet without a visit somewhere involving lots of chat, a cup of tea and some cake and the purchase of raffle tickets. With this in mind, I'm sure we at Thorington are not alone in thinking of getting back to fundraising, trying to get members of the community to contribute their time and effort as well as to dig deep in their wallets. Hopefully, these gatherings can begin again soon with a greater appreciation of the enjoyment that we feel in meeting and communal achievement.

Cooking For One will feature dishes which are ideal to prepare for solo diners who have recently lost a loved one. The book features a wide range of recipes featuring simple dishes for those who may not be used to finding their way around a kitchen. The recipes are wholesome and nutritious, but there are some decadent dishes too. Cooking For One is the idea of Simon Beckett-Allen, who co-owns Rosedale Funeral Home which has bases around Norfolk and Suffolk. Simon was inspired to create the cookbook in memory of his late sister, who was a chef. The proceeds of the book (which will be published in September) will support Cruse Bereavement Care, which is the largest charity of its type and supports over 50,000 people dealing with grief each year. Simon wanted to draw on his own experiences to help others. He said: "I've always found cooking very therapeutic especially when I'm on my own, and preparing food is a very pleasant pastime. After a bereavement, people can lose the enthusiasm to cook for themselves, and I really hope Cooking for One will help with that." As well as a wide range of recipes to prepare and dishes to enjoy, there are also stories from the contributors who share their journeys and provide advice and comfort too. The book features contributions from a range of people who have all lost a loved one including Norfolk-based actress Liza Goddard, writer and businessman Sir John Timpson CBE, and popular Norfolk chef Richard Hughes. As well as highlighting the meals that are important to them, they also share poignant memories of their loved ones. Simon said: "Cooking for One contains no platitudes about what a great healer time can be. It's a candid account of the raw pain and utter loneliness that grief can bring about. As well as containing delicious recipes, it aims to serve as a handbook designed to help navigate the personal pathway of grief." The book goes on sale on September 16th, costs £20 and

Local Volunteer Leslie Downing awarded prestigious RYA award
Wellbeing retreat coaching days Rise up Restart is a wellbeing retreat set in a 16th-century barn in the Suffolk countryside surrounded by three acres of garden and woodland. We offer group wellbeing coaching days to support you to achieve a better balance in life. We aim to focus on supporting you through specific stages of life: • The new challenge of the arrival of children and becoming a family • Balancing career, children, family and relationships • Making new starts in life after divorce, bereavement or moving to a new location • Planning for a fulfilling and purposeful retirement The days are intended to be 'treat days' where for once, you're
treating yourself and will feature homemade delicious treats midmorning, lunch in the woodland or in the dining hall of the 16thcentury barn and a celebration afternoon tea. Our vision for your retreat day is to provide a calm haven for you to stand back from your life, be nurtured and supported to acknowledge your current challenges and to begin to identify a way forward. Our next retreat day will be on September 15th and is offered particularly for women trying to balance it all - home, work, children and relationships! Why not treat yourself to some protected time. Find out more at: www.riseuprestart.com or email: enquiry@riseuprestart.com.
Avolunteer from Saxmundham was awarded one of the Royal Yachting Association's (RYA) most prestigious awards in recognition of her commitment to the Woolverstone Project on Monday 19th July in a presentation ceremony at Alton Water. Leslie Downing is one of some forty-four volunteers who are being celebrated across the UK for their exceptional dedication in boating. Traditionally taking place at an awards ceremony in London, the RYA Volunteer Awards recognise and say 'thank you' to volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to the sport, with recipients nominated by their sailing clubs, class associations and members of the boating community. The RYA Volunteer Awards are divided into four categories: RYA Awards, RYA Community Awards, The Francis Elkin Award and the RYA Honor Preston Award. Leslie Downing was nominated for the Francis Elkin Award and selected as a winner

by the RYA Honours and Awards Panel. Each year, the Award is presented in recognition of a significant contribution in time, effort and personal endeavour to enable people with disabilities to become involved in sailing. Leslie has made a remarkable contribution to the Woolverstone Project for over fifteen years and is described as the 'lynchpin holding everything together'. In this time, she's had many roles including Senior Instructor, Trustee, DBS Officer, buddy sailor, organiser and general volunteer as well as being an 'invaluable mentor and friend to everyone at the club'. Leslie said of the Award: "I felt of course very honoured to be awarded the Francis Elkin Award although rather embarrassed - this I feel I share with all the Woolverstone Project Volunteers, many of whom deserve it more than myself. I have always had a passion for sailing from a young age and always look forward to sailing with the Project, as we all do. My other big interest working with disabled persons. I feel we're like a big family, the sailors, their Carers and all the volunteers, and it's so good to share my huge interest with all these people and see the sailors' happiness in getting out on the water and developing their skills.
A big thank you to all who have contributed to my gaining this award." Doug MacEwen (RYA East Region Chair who jointly presented the Award with Mr Edward Creasy, the High Sheriff of Suffolk) said: "Leslie Downing has made a huge contribution to the success of the Woolverstone Project for well over fifteen years. She has carried out many formal roles within the project from instructing to Principal to Trustee. However, first and foremost she's an energetic and enthusiastic volunteer turning her hand to help with any task. This award is presented in recognition

of having made a significant contribution in time, effort and personal endeavour to enable people with disabilities to become involved in sailing. This is richly deserved recognition for Leslie's dedication." Sarah Treseder (RYA Chief Executive) said: "This year more than ever before, we've seen our club volunteers come together and work tirelessly to ensure members can continue to sail. The generosity and dedication of each of the RYA Volunteer Award recipients is simply outstanding and it's a pleasure to be able to recognise these winners through this award".
The Art Station is supporting the creative industries in coastal Suffolk, providing affordable workspace, co-working and tech spaces as well as enabling networks in the region. Having recently carried out a major refurbishment of the first floor of the Saxmundham former post office, this new venue is a base for an engaging art and community programme. Our co-working and tech spaces offer super high speed broadband (a rarity for the area!) and large light spaces to work in. We're currently looking for developers, designers, remote workers and freelancers to come and join our creative community in Saxmundham - plus growing start-ups and tech businesses that are in need of more space and community. Normal working environments and schedules have changed significantly during the pandemic and so we're offering a happy alternative to working from home. If people would like to find out more and book a tour of our space they can email: info@theartstation.uk. Our website: www.theartstation.uk

Martlesham Brass
Making music fun in East Anglia By the time you read this, Martlesham Brass should have played publicly for the first time since January 2020, weather permitting! The band will return to rehearsals in September after the summer holidays, in the

those already on our beginners waiting list will be offered places when circumstances permit. If you already play a brass instrument, and would be interested in joining us, please Almost all forms of building email: and demolition, are subject to join@martleshambrass.co.uk. control by your Local Planning Authority (LPA). Breaches of their control occur when development takes place without permission, or when specific conditions are ignored or mistakenly defaulted. The LPA has a duty to take enforcement action if this is in the public interest. These words "the public interest" are very important because they mean that the LPA has to make a judgment as to whether it should take action. Quite typically, if the development would have been granted planning permission at the outset, but there was a mistaken belief that it wasn't necessary, there would obviously be no point in the LPA taking enforcement action to have the building demolished. There is certainly no strict requirement for the LPA to take action on every breach. But if they are so minded, other particulars come into play in particular time limits. The LPA can take NO action after FOUR years if the breach related to building, engineering, mining or other operations. Further that same time limit applies to the change of use of any building to use as a single dwelling-house. How is enforcement done? First, the LPA may suggest a Retrospective Planning Application. Obviously, this is not really an enforcement device but a tool by which the LPA can regulate the actual construction - or the documented planning
history. Other devices include a Contravention Notice, which is a request for further information, which, if disregarded can lead to criminal proceedings and a fine. The Notice commonly leads to an Enforcement Notice and an Enforcement Order. The latter is issued by the magistrates against any person who has responsibility for the land and the relevant breach which has occurred. Also, there is a Stop Notice - which often accompanies the Enforcement Notice and does exactly what it says. Disobeying a Stop Notice is a serious matter. It is a criminal offence with an UNLIMITED MAXIMUM FINE, and there is no right of appeal. There can also be a Temporary Stop Notice for IMMEDIATE cessation of works, but as these are rather draconian they have limited duration - no longer than 28 days. Other methods of enforcement include injunctions, and right of physical entry onto the land. Listed Building breaches are enforced though very similar statutory procedures. So, all things considered, it seems it must be a pretty good idea to obtain Planning Permission long before undertaking any construction work on your property. For further advice about the planning consents in conveyancing matters, contact Candy Morris at: Messrs Pulham and Co, Egmere House, Market Place, Saxmundham, IP17 1AG. Telephone 01728 602084 or email: cm@pulham.co.uk.

Halesworth Library
Libraries are catching up! for these in the library and on our website and social media pages. Along with events getting back to some sort of normality, we've also reintroduced our newspapers and there is now no need to pre-book one of our three computers. Our refurbished public toilets are also open and we resumed our normal opening times in July. For your information, as it's been some time, here are the library opening times. Monday: 9:30am-12pm Tuesday: 9:30am-5:30pm Wednesday: 9:30am-5:30pm Thursday: Closed Friday: 9:30am-6pm Saturday: 9:30am-5pm Sunday: 10am-3pm We continue to endeavour to keep all our library users and staff safe and would ask visitors to continue wearing a face mask. Hand gel is available for your use and visitor numbers will remain at a comfortable level for the
foreseeable future. On a final note, our current Library Manager, Julie Gulliver, will be leaving us at the end of August after two busy but rewarding years. Julie said: "Despite the challenges of lockdown, working at Halesworth Library has given me some of the most rewarding times in my career. I've met some lovely people in the community, which is such a special place and have made some lasting friends. Some of you may remember I signed up to do a skydive prior to lockdown and this will still be going ahead on Sunday 26th September. Please visit: www.goldengiving. com/f/julieskydive if you'd like to contribute to raising funds for Suffolk Libraries. Thank you to everyone in Halesworth who makes the library such an amazing asset for all." All the staff look forward to welcoming customers old and new over the coming months.
Hello everyone, we at the Leiston Good Neighbour Scheme hope you've all had a good summer, and have been able to get out and about more and meet with friends and family. We're able to start our normal service again now, which is exciting. This includes visiting people who are lonely at home or meeting up somewhere for a chat, helping to fill in forms, going with people to social activities and one-off help with problems at home such as tidying a garden or changing a lightbulb. All volunteers will need to follow our guidelines regarding Covid precautions, and of course the wishes of each individual will be respected. One afternoon in July, we took ten people to a Garden Party held at The Red House in Aldeburgh. This was organized by Snape Maltings. Everyone really enjoyed the great live

We also have the Ichameleon 'pop up' shop 16th-22nd September, selling a variety of goods with a tombola on Wednesday and a cake stall on Friday. Donations will be most welcome. We really value the continued support of this local charity by the local community. Every penny spent in the shop (after rent and electricity) supports the work of the charity. The Pear Tree Centre continues to provide a variety of services, advice and support for the people living in East and North Suffolk and South Norfolk, who have a life progressive or life changing condition. Monday, 20th September at 7.30pm on Zoom The next meeting of the AVSFHG will be held online on Monday 20th September at 7:30pm when we'll host a speaker from Martlesham Aviation Museum. The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) came into being on March 13th, 1912. Martlesham Heath Airfield was opened in January 1917 to become the premier national centre for the testing and evaluation of aircraft and armaments, only nine years after the first recorded flight of a heavier-than-air machine in Britain. That October, the operations at Martlesham Heath were given the name "The Aeroplane Experimental Unit, Royal Flying Corps", and it's been described as "The Cradle of British Aviation". On 1st April 1918, the RFC was merged with the Royal Naval Air Service to become the Royal Air Force, the oldest independent air force in the world. In 1936, radar research and development (R&D) commenced at nearby Bawdsey Manor, and aircraft from Martlesham were available to assist when necessary, taking part in the first successful radar detection of ships

We hope you're all having a lovely summer and enjoying some time spent with family during the school holidays. We've been delighted to see more children in the library enjoying crafts and taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Almost one hundred children have already signed up which, although is less than we had before lockdown, is still absolutely fantastic. There is time to sign up if you haven't already, so do pop along to the library and grab some books and goodies. We hope children taking part remotely are enjoying their books too. For those of you looking for online activities take a look at the Suffolk Library website for an up-to-date list on all the remote free learning opportunities and activities you can access. Armstrong Whitworth Ensign Airliner. At Martlesham 1939 for testing and evaluation from the air - and also fortuitously of other aircraft taking off from HMS Courageous. Three days before the outbreak of the second world war, the establishment was moved away to Wiltshire, and the station became part of 11 Group, which bore the brunt of the Battle of Britain. Douglas Bader and Bob Stanford Tuck were separately stationed at Martlesham during 1940. In the Spring of 1943, the 356th Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Force arrived, to escort USAAF Eighth Air Force heavy bombers on daylight raids over Europe. RAF 56 Squadron remained to attack targets in France and the Low Countries, as well as shipping in the North Sea, which made Martlesham Heath one of very few joint Anglo-American airfields.
After the war, it reverted once more to an R&D role, until that was relocated to the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough and Bedford. With the jet-engine era, the concrete ends of the runway had been extended to avoid the tarmac melting. Then, from 1958 to 1961, the "Battle of Britain Flight" was at the airfield, which was finally closed on 25th April 1963. This Zoom-based event is free to members, but is also available to non-members at a cost of £3. If you wish to 'attend', please register via our website and you'll be sent joining instructions. We look forward to welcoming you on the night. For more info, see our website https://avsfhg.org.uk/events/ or phone Angela Skelcher on 01728 830949.
News from The Halesworth Bookshop We're excited to announce that we'll be in the Pavilion at the Mini Low House LitFest 2021 which will be held on Sunday 22nd August from 11am-6pm. Featuring: Camila Balshaw, Lesley Dolphin, Ester Freud, Charlie Haylock, Wendy Holden, Lesley Kara, Jenni Keer, Richard Mabey, Phoebe Morgan, Rob Nisbet, Paddy O'Connell, Victoria Panton Bacon and Gaby Wood. Entry is free, for a full programme visit: www. lowhouselaxfield.com A morning with Annie Garthwaite, author of the recently published historical novel Cecily, Saturday 18th Sept at 11am, followed by an opportunity to purchase signed copies at £14.99. Cecily Neville (the protagonist in Annie Garthwaite's debut novel) was born in the year of
Agincourt, lived into the early years of the Tudors, created a dynasty, mothered two kings (Edward 1V and Richard 111) and led her family through civil war. For most of her life she was one of the most powerful women in England. Reading from her novel, Annie will reveal Cecily in all her complex glory... A dynastic schemer and a political mover and shaker of the first rank, a strategist, politician and administrator par excellence, but also, a wife and mother, who loved fiercely, lost children in infancy and to war and, one fateful day in Ludlow, faced down an army alone. The event will take place at The Halesworth Bookshop all part of Heritage week. For more information, contact the Halesworth Bookshop on 01986 873840.

Woodbridge Art Club (WAC) has over one hundred members and they don't all use paint and brushes! This month, I'd like to highlight the work WAC member Roy Eaton creates using coloured pencils. Retired Engineer Roy enjoyed art at school but only took up painting years later when he attended art classes. At one of these classes, Roy was introduced to working in high-quality coloured pencils and he hasn't looked back since. Sharpened, and used on quality paper, coloured pencils enable
is in trouble)? Can your plans benefit from the use of a Trust or Settlement (in the case of a son's unstable marriage, possibly yes)? Taking professional advice and reviewing your plans could save tax. Even if the downsides outweigh the predicted benefits, at least you'll have made an educated decision from the facts rather than always wondering whether you could have done something giving you piece of mind. And how much is that worth? Hope this helps. For further information, please contact Robin Beadle (pictured) by emailing: robin.beadle@ensors.co.uk.

rather than leaving the property via your Will? Or perhaps, if you're considering retiring from your business, what are the effects of bringing that forward (perhaps with a Management Buy Out rather than with an arm's length sale at some point in the future)? Accelerating a disposal can have effects beyond taking a smaller tax charge now over a larger predicted one later, however. Making a gift of an asset but continuing to enjoy using it needs to be structured carefully to avoid anti-avoidance rules. If you're gifting an asset, do you have the cash available to settle any CGT due? If you dispose of an income-producing asset, how will it affect your longer-term income requirements? Is the recipient of the gift financially stable enough to receive the asset (for example, you should probably think carefully before gifting your son a property if his marriage

Predicting what the government will do in the next Budget is nigh on impossible, but one thing is certain: the government has spent an eye-watering amount of money over the pandemic and it must be paid back somehow. Currently, we're in a very low capital tax environment and capital taxes are unlikely to go any lower. Furthermore, even before the pandemic hit, the Government had been reviewing capital taxation (both capital gains tax (CGT) and inheritance tax (IHT)) and had been looking at the amount of revenue raised. The question then becomes: Can you take advantage of the current low-tax environment before tax rates (as is widely expected) increase? For example: If your long-term plans are to leave your second home to your children, have you explored the implications of doing this during your lifetime by gift

New Iveco transporter joins the Hammond's fleet It was way back in 1962 when A W & D Hammond was formed. From day one, we attended stranded motorists that were broken down, or if they were unfortunate enough to have been involved in a road traffic accident. In fact, Roy Hammond regularly used to attend breakdowns on his Triumph Tiger motorcycle with a handful of tools. In those long past days, if you had a hammer and a couple of screwdrivers, you could fix most things! The most frequently attended breakdown hot-spot was at the AA roadside point on the A12 at Blythburgh, where motorists usually limped to, in order to look for help. Obviously, things have moved on considerably in the intervening years and now a technician will need a laptop diagnostic kit to stand any chance of a repair and many stranded vehicles now have to be transported to an authorised franchise workshop.
Over the years, Hammonds have built up a substantial vehicle breakdown and recovery fleet which travels all over the UK and remains open 365 days of the year and 24 hours a day. The vehicle pictured is the latest new transporter to join the fleet. A new Iveco 15-ton unit with an ultra-low demountable body fitted. However low your spoiler is, this vehicle can recover it damage free. Tim Warne, Recovery and Compliance Manager, with 37 years' experience with Hammonds, said: "We're extremely pleased to add this vehicle to our fleet. It's designed to transport two vehicles at a time and the high payload means that the longest and heaviest vans are recovered with ease." This top specification vehicle is fully 'London low emission zone compliant' and has a 360-degree camera set up for full all-round vision.

The eagerly awaited new James Bond film 'No Time to Die' is finally coming to the big screen and will be showing at Leiston Film Theatre from the UK release date of Thursday 30th September. The 25th instalment in the Bond franchise, marks Daniel Craig's final appearance as British Secret Service Agent, 007 and also stars Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) as the new Bond Villain, Safin, one who really gets under Bond's skin. The film was originally due to arrive in cinemas in April 2020 and has been moved several times, due to the pandemic, leaving film fans frustrated. But now, Bond is back and it certainly looks as if No Time to Die is going to be a 'must-see' cinematic event. The film's thrilling trailer has already got cinema-goers excited ahead of its release and the film's theme song, performed by Billie Eilish, won a Best Song Grammy in 2020.

Wrentham Chapel will, once again, be hosting 'Seedtime and Harvest' at 7pm on Friday 17th September. News from Woodbridge Museum With the relaxation of Covid restrictions, there have been record numbers of visitors to Woodbridge Museum. The unpredictable weather has been no deterrent to visitors but has proved a welcome refuge from the torrential showers. The photo wall is starting to revive memories from people who have lived in Woodbridge all their lives and from others who remember visiting relations as children. These are both personal memories and stories handed down through the generations. The family area is now fully functional with quizzes and activities for children to try. The old school slates have proved very popular with children and, unless we have had some incredibly talented five-year-old artists coming in, parents have been unable to resist having a go themselves.

Framlingham St John Ambulance We're actively seeking local adults who'd like to learn how to deliver first aid and potentially be the difference between a life lost and a life saved in Framlingham and surrounding villages. If you'd like more details about the varied work of St John Ambulance (SJA) and how you could be a part of it, please visit: www.sja.org.uk. During July, we were very sorry to hear that Sue Wall, one of our valued Badger helpers had sadly died. Sue had helped with Badgers over a number of years and we always looked forward and enjoyed our end of summer term BBQ and woodland walk that she kindly arranged. Our thoughts are with her family at this time. This month, we'll take a look at the treatment for fainting: Fainting is when someone briefly becomes unresponsive, often causing them to fall to the ground. It happens because for a moment, there is not enough blood flowing to the brain. People may faint as a reaction to pain, exhaustion, hunger, or emotional stress. It's also common for people to faint after they have been standing or sitting still for a long period of time. What to look for:
1. There may be a brief loss of response, often causing them to fall to the ground. 2. They may have a slow pulse. 3. They may have pale, cold skin and sweating. How to treat someone who's fainted: 1. Advise them to lie down. 2. Kneel down beside them and raise their legs on your shoulders. Watch their face for signs of recovery. 3. Make sure they get plenty of fresh air and ask other people to stand back. 4. Reassure them and help them to sit up slowly, when they feel better. 5. If they stay unresponsive, open their airway, check their breathing and prepare to treat someone who is unresponsive. Framlingham firm lights up green for SJA
On the evening of June 24th (St. John's Day), all over the country, more than 100 well-known buildings and landmarks were lit up in green in support of SJA. Due to Covid-19, SJA has had to mark St John's Day in different ways from usual, and the 'Light it Green' initiative is one way that the country was asked to take part on the day. At the same time, the work of the charity and its volunteers is also being highlighted through a new campaign, 'Ask Me', which focuses on many stories that tell of the lives saved and positively changed by first aid and SJA. Framlingham's Clarke and Simpson, in Well Close Square, were delighted to be able to support SJA as they continue to work on the NHS vaccination programme, respond to the pandemic, and start returning to event duties and providing first aid training. Our thanks to them for doing this. For those who wish to support the charity through fundraising, please go to www.sja.org.uk/green to discover how to Go Green to Save Lives. More detail about SJA's new 'Ask Me' campaign can also be found at www.sja. org.uk/ask-me/.

browsing and relaxing. It is not surprising the due to its charm, Debenham was declared a conservation area over 50 years ago. Though it is
an historic place in the heart of rural Suffolk, Debenham has all the modern facilities you would expect to see so makes for a great place to live or visit.

An update from Dr Dan Poulter MP As I sit to write this month's article, it seems apposite to reflect upon how the Covid-19 pandemic has changed all of our lives and no one would doubt that it's been an incredibly difficult and challenging time for all of us, but it's also brought us together. Here in Suffolk, we have a proud track record of coming together in our communities to help those in need and to support each other, so I would personally like to thank all of you for your efforts and resilience during this difficult time. As we now begin to look forward, I'm hopeful that we're now coming through the worst and I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible in person once again over the coming weeks and months. I'm especially looking forward to getting out and about to enjoy the range of local events that are starting to pop up, not to mention stocking up on our fabulous local produce. I'm particularly enthusiastic about the marvellous food and drink offering we have here and my weekends at home in Suffolk are often spent at local markets and events. I always buy my food and drink locally, where I can, to support our local businesses wherever possible.
It never ceases to amaze me the sheer diversity that we have right here on our door step, from locally produced cheeses and meats, to cordials, cider, beer and wine, and sauces, preserves and pickles, all grown, packaged and produced so creatively right in Suffolk. The success of these businesses is vital to our strong rural economy and I think we all have a part to play in ensuring that we think local and buy local whenever we can. There's so much great work going on here already to educate our children and young people on the importance of not only eating well - a healthy and balanced diet, but also eating locally and seasonally. This is vitally important in reducing the number of miles our food travels before it reaches our plate and of course, fresh produce that's in season always tastes so much better. With the harvest season upon us, it's vital that we all continue to do our best to buy local and support local produce. I'm a great supporter of our local farmers and regularly meet with the NFU and the farming community. I'll continue to do my very best to support our hardworking farmers here in Suffolk and wish them all a fruitful and plentiful harvest.

EEZYBIKE A new and exciting E-bike rental company with click-andcollect locations in Aldeburgh and Bury St Edmunds has been set up by long time friends, Martin Davies and Si Cooper, who discovered these unique bikes a few years ago and realised whilst on holiday in Aldeburgh that they would often travel to Snape, Dunwich, Southwold, and beyond, but would never consider getting on a push bike as it was just too far to peddle. So knowing that these bikes are incredibly easy to use, unique in style and practicality, they came up with the idea to offer them to everyone and so EEZYBIKE was created.
These are not any type of e-bike, they are RAD-Power Bikes, step-through utility bikes with either baskets for picnics and shopping or cushioned passenger seats for older children or adults. UK staycations are here for the foreseeable future, so these e-bikes are a great way
of upgrading your holiday and adding the aspect of fun, safe adventure, whilst exploring in a clean and green way – venturing further a field without getting in the car or getting puffed out on a pedal bike, plus that exhilarating feeling of freedom and refreshing breeze in your hair!
