Vernon Blackmore and the team have now been at the Anchor for ten years, our offer has developed into what we feel a quayside pub should be. Great beers, a friendly warm welcome, food that you would expect in a good British hostelry with additional dishes that reflect our backgrounds and passion. We want you to feel the history in the pub so we have been very careful not to remove the old charm and character, the floor tiles may have been professionally cleaned, but they are still a bit wobbly and remind you of the sailors that have spilt beer on them in the past. However a pub is about people so come and enjoy it with us and let us welcome you in. Check out our website for full details of opening times, menus and events. Part of the portfolio looked after by Vernon Blackmore and his team. Also check out our Woodbridge restaurant, traditional quayside pub and our country pubs: The Table, The Anchor in Woodbridge, Easton White Horse and The Duck Campsea Ashe.

Good food at a great price is what we want ‘The Bell at Sax’ to be known for. When you drive into Kersey it’s a real wow factor. There are beautifully kept medieval cottages throughout the village, with the pub in the centre. Our amazing pub is enjoyed by tourists and locals, and Kersey has been painted and photographed, probably more than any other village in the UK. It has been in many tv shows and films, including a meerkat advert! We are a black and white, traditional Tudor style building, which holds so much history in its walls. With the village being so notably quaint, we make a fabulous day out, meandering the streets and then stopping for a traditional pub lunch/dinner. The Bell has a large garden and a generous carpark. We have 6 holiday lets in the village, so you can stay and enjoy your visit to Kersey and The Bell Inn. We have a low beamed ceiling, adding to that ambience of being in an old fashioned pub, and on those cooler days, we will greet you in the log-fire bar, and relish the opportunity to put the world to rights. Being run by two sisters, we have that personal touch, that is the backbone of a great establishment. Lastly, as we can receive you in all weathers, it’s good to know we are open every day. If the weather is kinder, we can accommodate you in our stunning, sheltered back terrace. We look forward to seeing you soon.

The business has evolved in that time and now as we move in to the main summer months there are plenty of exciting plans at the Fleece. Inside the pub you will find the friendly informal atmosphere has been extended to the newly refurbished Upstairs Dining Room. Previously this was a more formal function room – great for larger groups and parties looking for that type of setting. However, Graeme has found that there was increasing call for a more relaxed setting. Yes, this is still a space for large groups, but it is equally comfortable for use as an extension to the dining space. Anyone interested in booking the Upstairs Dining Room can speak with one of the team and Graeme and Head Chef, Justin, will put together a bespoke menu to suit your tastes and budget.

The King’s Head is a lovely unspoilt 500 year old thatched pub known locally as the Low House which is owned and run by a group of friends who formed a community interest company to buy the pub in 2018. The Low House is an easy going friendly and welcoming place to visit where there is no bar, but instead a tap room where pints of ale are poured straight from the barrel. Many of the beers sold are from local breweries and being a free house means we can sell a wide variety of excellent beers, along with a good range of lagers, cider, wine & spirits. Food is offered 7 days a week and the menu is designed to be delicious, home-cooked, reasonably priced pub food catering for all tastes, and made from locally sourced ingredients when possible. We offer B & B and there are 3 attractive, comfortable and well appointed up to date bedrooms in the converted stables next to the pub. Outside there’s a neatly kept garden, with a large lawn from which there’s a lovely view of the church. A perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon. The Low House is simply a pub, great food, great beer and a great place to visit.

The Moon and Mushroom is a freehouse dating back to 16th Century. It is rumoured the pub was used as a staging post for convicts being deported to the Colonies. A former Landlord was deported for stealing a pig and two ducks….. It is a pretty “roses round the door” country pub providing fabulous food which is locally sourced and cooked on the premises. We also do take-away fish & chips on a Friday. We are a real ale pub selling beers from East Anglian micro-breweries which are tapped straight from the barrel. The pub is cosy and welcoming with two log fires in winter. Lots of fairy lights and candles. Seating is charming old wooden pews and scrubbed tables The Moon & Mushroom has won The Best Village Pub in Suffolk twice. Sky News chose the pub and did a feature on The Moon & Mushroom in 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. This lasted all day and culminated in the lighting of the Rural Beacon. We are currently in the 100 Cosiest Pubs in Britain by The Mail on Sunday.

The Inn was built around 1576 when it was originally named ‘The Case Is Altered’. In 1604 the Kemp family acquired the Inn and renamed it The Parrot and Punchbowl. The Parrot’s bar and snug both offer an insight into years gone by, with an array of black and white pictures and artwork. The spoken stories tell of more however… In a village steeped in history, with even a mention in the 1086 Doomsday book, the Parrot is the oldest building in the parish of Aldringham-cum-thorpe. Interestingly, the Parrot has had a long history of smuggling, which continued until the late 18th Century, a chat about this with the locals, is well worth it! With the arrival of David and Chris in the summer of 2017 the Parrot remains its true-self, but Chris and David are currently making the garden great and the surrounding areas more habitable for the local wildlife. Pride is taken also in not having any single use or disposable plastic available at the bar as they continue to reduce the amount of plastic that is thrown away. So the future of The Parrot is looking greener, and most certainly bright, as they look forward.

You’ll also find a range of organic fairtrade and local wines, a selection of carefully chosen speciality spirits and soft drinks There’s a selection of traditional pub games including bar billiards, darts and a few other treats. Heated entirely by wood - a large woodburning stove in the lounge bar, and a wood-fired range cooker in the public bar which also heats the radiators (and the pies!!). As well as the two main rooms there is also a small beer garden with a rustic arbor, enchantingly lit by candles and fairylights at night.
