Company History As two engineering students at Virginia Tech, Brett Plano and Ryan Coudon dreamt about creating their own company. In 1999, after a successful experience working for a large general contracting firm, they put those entrepreneurial instincts into action. While managing multi-million-dollar construction projects in the region, Plano and Coudon recognized a need in the market for sophisticated yet flexible contractors to complete smaller jobs. They created Plano-Coudon to bring the mindset of engineers, the sophistication of large contractors and the flexibility of a small company to local construction projects. Since then, Plano-Coudon has built experience and expertise across numerous market segments and across a growing range of project sizes. We have deep expertise in higher education, health care and commercial projects. We have met the formidable and exacting requirements of projects for life sciences, industrial and mission critical clients. We have proven to be a highly responsive and effective contractor in on-call arrangements. And we have shown how to truly care for clients, whether that client is an entrepreneur embarking on an exciting expansion, residents of a seniors’ facility undergoing renovations, or members of a business district recovering from an historic flood.
Company Philosophy At Plano-Coudon Construction, we devote every day to achieving one mission: Bringing our clients’ visions to life while delivering an exceptional owner experience. Whether it is building a modern commercial space with bold architectural features, upgrading systems in highly sensitive healthcare or life sciences facilities, smoothly handling a phased renovation of an occupied seniors’ facility, or deciphering how to reconstruct a century-old railroad bridge, Plano-Coudon prides itself on having both the technical skills to successfully complete the work and the flexibility and empathy to fully address the owner’s needs and aspirations. We believe construction projects should be positive experiences for clients. Consequently, we bring unparalleled energy, enthusiasm and customer service to each project. We build true partnerships with our clients, fully learning about their visions, needs and challenges. We strive to become each client’s trusted construction advisor by delivering sound advice and outstanding performance in an environment that is positive and respectful.
When a 1,000-year rainstorm triggered devastating flooding in Ellicott City, Plano-Coudon was proud to participate in the rebuilding effort. Through careful research and an unconventional plan to deploy construction equipment, PlanoCoudon successfully restored a century-old, stone retaining wall.
That approach to construction is core to Plano-Coudon’s vision to be a trusted partner and a leader in the construction services industry. We foster that work culture every day with every one of our employees. We recruit skilled and passionate construction professionals. And we encourage them to base their actions on our core company values. Those are outlined in PC FAITH – Positivity, Community, Fire in the belly, Accountability, Integrity, Teamwork and Health.
At Plano-Coudon, we believe in – and thoroughly enjoy – community service. You’ll see Plano-Coudon staffers serving meals at Our Daily Bread, reading Dr. Seuss stories to area school children, harvesting vegetables for non-profits, helping schools and resource centers complete construction projects, and supporting many other organizations.
Those values are important to us. We believe it is essential as entrepreneurs, managers, community members and project partners to support the health and wellbeing of our employees and support efforts to make our community even better. Plano-Coudon hosts an annual golf tournament to raise money for Teach For America, contributes funds and services to multiple nonprofits, offers employees paid time off to volunteer with local causes, and facilitates opportunities for staff members to volunteer with community groups.
At Plano-Coudon, we deliver great construction projects. But we also work daily to be a source of positivity for our clients, our partners, our employees and our community.
