Disney Musicals in Schools, presented by Dee & Jimmy Haslam, is an outreach program that creates sustainable musical theater programs in elementary schools. Each year, four schools are selected from applications from Cuyahoga, Lake, and Lorain Counties with a student poverty level of 50% or higher, bringing arts into areas that are without. These schools receive a 19-week musical theater residency lead by our professional Teaching Artists, with the goal to provide the necessary training to continue the tradition of theater education for years to come.
“Disney Musicals in Schools has changed so many lives! I believe the impact of DMIS will not only provide a sustainable performing arts program at our school, but also it has planted the seed within our students to continue enjoying and participating in the performing arts in years to come!”
Denise Germany, the Director of the DMGLA program
The Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards, presented by Pat & John Chapman, recognizes excellence in Northeast Ohio high school musical theater programs and celebrates the achievement of students in the performing arts. As of this year, we have served more than 15,000 students in the program since it was started.
“I think that [the Dazzle Awards] really showed me how much talent there is out there, just in the Cleveland area itself. There are so many amazing people who have so much amazing talent and it’s just really great to see everyone’s specialties.”

Playhouse Square is committed to fighting systemic racism in our community. As part of our commitment, our Social Justice Series explores the issues we continue to face as a community and a nation through the perspectives of outstanding artists of color. Titles are intentionally selected to provide age-appropriate offerings spanning Kindergarten through the high school level.
Family-friendly performances took center stage at Playhouse Square on May 4 for Family Theater Day, presented by University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Guests watched the powerful rhythms of BAM Percussion in amazement, dove into a world of imagination with POLI POP and experienced the moving story of love, history and resilience with Show Way, The Musical
In addition to the ticketed performances, which were generously supported by Kathy & Jim Pender and The Michael Pender Fund, Playhouse Square offered crafts and other experiences free of charge!
