DEAR FRIENDS Welcome
Welcome and thank you for choosing to see a performance at Playhouse Square! We encourage you take in the historic beauty of our theaters and the bright lights of Euclid Avenue while you’re here. Our staff and RedCoat volunteers are ready to make your visit as memorable and enjoyable as possible.
Playhouse Square was saved by the community for the community, and we are proud to be the stewards of the legacy left to us by previous generations — now one of Cleveland’s brightest cultural gems. Our not-for-profit mission charges us to go beyond simply maintaining these incredible venues.
Every day we work to present a diverse offering of quality performances — Broadway, concerts, comedy, dance, film, family shows and more. We support arts education through a variety of programs that take place in the classroom, online and here at Playhouse Square. We lead a vibrant downtown destination that generates an annual economic impact exceeding $359 million for the region. Equally important are your experience and the memories you take with you.
Now, settle into your seat, leave the world outside for a little while and let yourself become absorbed in the magic of the story on stage before you. We look forward to welcoming you back to Playhouse Square again soon and invite you to consider planning your next visit to see Mean Girls, Some Like It Hot or Life of Pi
With best wishes,
Craig Hassall AM President & CEO
Brent Ballard Chair, Board of Trustees

WE’RE PROUD to support Playhouse Square
Welcome to Playhouse Square! All of us at KeyBank are thrilled to see you here enjoying one of the best live theater experiences our country has to offer — and it’s right here in Key’s hometown of Cleveland.
Our beloved Playhouse Square shares KeyBank’s mission of helping Cleveland thrive and has proved over time to be a pillar of our great community. We are proud to support Playhouse Square and help bring award-winning theatrical performances to our city as a part of the KeyBank Broadway Series. As in years past, the team here at Playhouse has worked very hard to bring you a spectacular lineup of shows, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store this year.
For decades, some of KeyBank’s most important work has taken place through philanthropy, volunteerism, and outreach. This is why, in addition to our Broadway Series partnership, we are proud to support Playhouse Square’s not-for-profit mission and educational programming. We are committed to opening more doors to new opportunities in the communities we serve.
Since 2017, KeyBank has made community investments totaling more than $2 billion in Northeast Ohio which supports low to moderate income individuals and neighborhoods through lending for affordable housing, small businesses, mortgages and transformative philanthropy.
Our investments will continue to focus on economic access and equity for underserved communities and populations. We believe building a better world starts at home and each investment that we have made in Northeast Ohio is making a difference. When our neighborhoods succeed, we all succeed.
Thank you for joining us and for supporting Playhouse Square. We hope you enjoy this KeyBank Broadway Series show!
Sincerely,
SPOTLIGHT ON News
AKRON NATIVE MARCUS M. MARTIN MAKES HIS OWN WISH COME TRUE
He played the role of Genie when the national tour of Aladdin visited Playhouse Square in March 2023, and now Marcus M. Martin will be taking his talents to Broadway as the standby Genie. The announcement was made at BroadwayCon in July. Martin, a native of Akron and graduate of the Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre Program, has played the Genie in over 500 performances on tour. This will mark his Broadway debut.
BILL AND TED ON BROADWAY?
Well, not quite, although the lead actors from the movie will be reuniting on stage soon. It’s been reported that actor Keanu Reeves will make his Broadway debut opposite Alex Winter in a revival of Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot. Many will remember Winter and Reeves as the title characters in the 1989 film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, as well as two sequels in the franchise. Waiting for Godot is expected to open in the fall of 2025.
CAROLEE CARMELLO TO LEAD KIMBERLY AKIMBO NATIONAL TOUR
We’re on a great adventure! Three-time Tony nominee Carolee Carmello has been cast in the role of Kimberly in the first national tour of the Tony Award winning musical Kimberly Akimbo. Most recently seen on Broadway in the musical Bad Cinderella, Carmello’s credits include 16 Broadway musicals, eight Off-Broadway productions and national tours for Les Misérables, Big River, Falsettos and Hello, Dolly!. She has also appeared on television shows like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Madam Secretary, Blue Bloods, and Smash. Kimberly Akimbo opens its national tour at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on September 22 and will arrive in Cleveland as the final show of the 2024-25 KeyBank Broadway Series, July 15–August 3, 2025. Learn more about becoming a season ticket holder by calling 216-640-8800 or visiting playhousesquare.org/broadway.
DISNEY ANNOUNCES NEXT PROJECTS
The next screen-to-stage adaptation for Disney Theatrical Group will be The Greatest Showman, the 2017 Hugh Jackman-led musical film which tells the story of the rise of P.T. Barnum and the Barnum & Bailey Circus. The stage musical will feature the same Academy Award®-nominated songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul that were featured in the movie. Additional details, including full creative team, casting and production timeline, have yet to be shared. Disney also announced that the live capture of the musical Frozen will be available on Disney+ in 2025, the same year that the musical adaptation of Hercules will open on London’s West End.

PROGRAM NOTE David Greene
Great songwriters have a distinct voice and style that sets them apart from others. They bring their own perspective and experiences into their work, creating something that feels fresh and genuine. This authenticity is often what gives their songs staying power and resonates with the listeners on a deeper level.
Neil Diamond is one of those songwriters. With one of the most recognizable voices in American popular culture, Neil has sold more than 125 million records, had 38 singles reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts — 10 of which soared to the coveted No. 1 spot. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. He has a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and is a Kennedy Center Honoree.
While the extraordinary sales, achievements and awards are undeniable, it is that warm, gravelly, baritone voice and Neil’s ability to tell stories, convey emotion and connect with audiences that make him one of the most beloved entertainers in history.
Neil’s unique ability to write songs that resonate with a broad audience makes him the kind of artist that appeals to multiple generations. When I was a pre-teen in the mid-1980s, my parents took me to a Neil Diamond concert at the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland. I can vividly remember our seats. We were about as high in the upper level and about as far from the stage as we could possibly get, but each melody, each rhythm and each lyric left a lasting impression on me and created a lifelong fan.
Nearly 40 years later, I recently attended my cousin’s wedding in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Friends and family of all ages and from all over the country were there to celebrate. As with many weddings, the generational makeup of who was on the dance floor varied based on what song the DJ chose to play. There are very few songs that can get an entire party out of their seats, all joining in solidarity around the joyous event. However, when the first few notes of Neil’s most iconic anthem, “Sweet Caroline,” were heard at this party, everyone came running to the dance floor, sharing an experience that was “so good, so good, so good.”
In 2018, Neil announced publicly that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a disease that now prevents him from performing concerts for his adoring fans. Whether you are a longtime fan or new to the extensive catalog, A Beautiful Noise will give you the opportunity to connect with Neil in a personal and meaningful way. With Neil’s full input and endorsement, Oscar-nominated writer Anthony McCarten takes us on a journey down memory lane, and opens the curtain on the challenges and successes that took Neil Diamond from humble beginnings to music legend.
When I saw this show on Broadway, I entered the theater a fan of Neil Diamond — The Musician and came out with a special place in my heart for Neil Diamond — The Man. I hope you, too, find a connection with your experience today.
Enjoy,
David Greene Senior VP of Programming

Letter From Neil
The idea of a Broadway musical about my life has always been a daunting one. It wasn’t until the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease prematurely ended my touring career that I started to seriously consider the prospect. I say “prematurely” because my heart and soul would tour until the day I die if only my body would cooperate.
My friend and longtime producer Bob Gaudio had some success with his little show, Jersey Boys (perhaps you’ve heard of it?), so I went to him for some guidance on where to begin. Bob brought in Ken Davenport and together they built the incredible creative team that became, A Beautiful Noise.
When Anthony McCarten came on board, we spent hours talking. It was his idea to frame the show in the context of therapy sessions. I loved the idea and never shied away from talking about my years of psychoanalysis. There used to be a stigma around talking about mental health and thankfully through the years, it’s become an important and accepted topic of conversation.
Sitting in the theatre and watching the show has itself been therapeutic: reliving some joyful and some of the painful parts of my life, wishing perhaps that if I could only make a few edits in the script, it would change some of the reality of what I was seeing. But in the end, coming to terms with my life and accepting it has somehow come full circle. I feel fortunate and full of gratitude for all the people in my life. It is each of them who have impacted and shaped me in their own way to get me to the place where I am now…a better man. A better father. A better husband. A better songwriter. I’d like to thank Marcia and Jaye, this story wouldn’t be possible without you. My children and grandchildren for your most important supporting roles in my life. My wife, Katie, who encouraged me to keep going through this process and finally, to Dr. Lu Katzman, my longtime therapist who inspired this story. May she rest in peace.
