Founded in 1969, The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong’s leading international schools with a reputation for the highest academic quality and a holistic education for a multicultural student body. As a multiple-language school, GSIS operates two parallel streams teaching two curriculums, from Kindergarten to Secondary School and prepares for the German International Abitur and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, following IGCSE examinations in Year 11. As well as our academic excellence, our students are taught to be passionate, resilient and happy individuals who explore their different interests independently. Our community comes from many different backgrounds and cultures, they enrich each other through their differences and are taught to be resourceful, confident and creative in everyday life.

Curriculum: IB Diploma Programme, IGCSE, German International Abitur

German International Stream: The German International Abitur is an internationally-acclaimed and highly regarded diploma that provides an academically exceptional and culturally rich bi-lingual education to students of all nationalities with a curriculum that is robust and internationally-minded of languages, science, maths and arts. GSIS students study 11 subjects with parts of the written and oral final examinations being taken in both English and German. Consequently, the German International Abitur is especially international by nature and fosters bilingualism and independent learning. It opens doors to the finest Universities around the world and gives our students the freedom to explore a variety of opportunities. English International Stream: We offer a challenging and diverse academic curriculum, leading to the I/GCSE examinations and then on to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. For the first three years in the English Secondary Department we determine our own curriculum, which aims to give students the strong foundation of knowledge and skills that they will need for their later studies. Our curriculum is broadly based on the National Curriculum of England but it has been adapted and extended to suit the selective and international nature of our students, drawing upon best practice in education worldwide. in Years 10 and 11, students are prepared for the International/General Certificate of Secondary Education (I/GCSE) in eight to ten subjects. The Examination Boards in the UK determine the syllabus for each subject and set and mark the public examination papers. Students must study English Language and English Literature, Mathematics and German. They can then select an additional four to six subjects, which must include one from science and one from the humanities, to ensure sufficient breadth of study. In response to the interest and ability of our students, GSIS offers the single award sciences, allowing students to choose, one, two or all three of the science disciplines. Students in our accelerated programmes, who sit for their I/GCSEs early, are able to continue their studies at AS level in Mandarin and German. Our accelerated programme in Mathematics may lead to the Additional Mathematics I/GCSE qualification. The programme of study in Y12-Y13 is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). A student taking the IBDP must take six discrete subjects and complete the requirements of a core programme.
