Letter from the President The Europe you don’t know, the Asia you will discover… These words describe the essence of Istanbul, my hometown and the site of this year’s Convention. No wonder we are very much looking forward to welcoming all of you in September. Indeed, meticulous planning is already under way. Executive Secretary Juan Arzuaga and Membership & Convention Manager, Caroline Green, were in Istanbul in early February for a thorough inspection of all sites as well as our base for the event, the legendary Istanbul Hilton, which throughout more than half a century hosted stars and dignitaries including Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Marlon Brando, Mohammed Ali, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Grace of Monaco. I am pleased to announce that we have selected “Send me to school, Dad” as the recipient of the lottery funds this year. In 2005 the Dogan Newspaper Group began this initiative in support of the national Turkish education campaign to encourage girls to continue their education. We will be making more information available in the next newsletter. You will find more details about the Convention on page 20 of this Newsletter. We are doing our very best to stage a thrilling event and encourage you to mark the week of Sunday 9th September on your calendar now and watch for the opening of registration in May. Our more immediate focus, however, is the submission of your Health and Safety Statistics and Environmental Statistics Returns. The submission forms are available at www.iploca.com. Please see a special note on page 5 regarding the submission of Health & Safety Statistics by Regular Members. The Environmental Statistics Return was a new initiative introduced in 2011 with the aim to respond to growing worldwide trends in environmental accountability. The deadline for both returns is 9 March 2012. Also please do not forget to consider entering this year’s awards. The winners of the IPLOCA Health & Safety Award, sponsored by Chevron, and the IPLOCA Environmental Award, sponsored by Shell, will be announced in Istanbul in September. Watch for further details and deadlines in email by the beginning of April. Award submission forms will also be posted on the website. Our work in HSE, New Technologies and Training continues, and you will read about it on the coming pages. We value greatly the dedication of all our participating members. I look forward to your questions, comments and ideas regarding IPLOCA. Please feel free to contact me at obirgili@tekfen.com.tr Sincerely,

Osman Birgili

Board Meeting Update

The 2011-2012 IPLOCA Board of Directors met in Cape Town

at the beginning of December. Following are highlights from that meeting.

HSE Committee At its meeting in Geneva on 11-12 October 2011, Chairman Adam Wynne Hughes noted that 96 percent of the required Health & Safety Statistics had been received by the Secretariat. He considered it extremely important that we receive 100 percent of these each year, as a condition of membership in the Association. Information from the sister associations has also been received. Development of a new IPLOCA Health & Safety Statistics Report is scheduled for 2012 and will be considerably more indepth and detailed than previous reports, with aggregate statistics by region, and with further information such as statistics by category of company. It is felt that this more detailed report will be of greater benefit to the IPLOCA (Left to right) Board Members Jerrit Coward (Willbros), Pierluigi

acquisition of Global Industries, Ltd. The shareholders of Global Industries approved the merger at a special shareholders meeting held on November 30, 2011 and will receive USD 8.00 per share in cash. Global Industries has become an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Technip. The completion of the merger will allow the integration of Global Industries into Technip to begin, thus benefiting Technip’s and Global Industries’ employees and clients, who have been very supportive of the transaction. The initial integration planning carried out since the announcement has confirmed the rationale for bringing Technip’s subsea activities and those of Global Industries together.

Technip Awarded Major Flexible Pipe Frame Agreement by Petrobras Technip has been awarded a 5-year frame agreement contract from Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) for the supply of around 1,400 kilometers of flexible pipes. Supply starts in 2013 and orders are guaranteed for at least 50 percent of the total value, which is currently estimated to be worth around USD 2.1 billion. The scope of the contract includes the manufacture of over 150 types and diameters of risers, flowlines and associated equipment and accessories. Deliveries under this frame agreement will be spread over the contract period and order intake recognition will progress as specific work orders are confirmed. Flexible pipes for the contract will be produced both at Technip’s existing manufacturing site in Vitoria, and also at the new manufacturing facility under construction in Açu, Brazil. Accordingly, this award confirms the strong rationale of the investment announced last year in a second flexible pipe plant in Brazil capable of delivering a range of technologically advanced, high-end flexible pipe products to meet the strong demand growth and evolving technology requirements we expect in the Brazilian market.

to take a financial role, the oil minister has said. The commercial viability of the proposed 1,000 km pipeline, which could cost about 25 billion crowns ($4.2 billion) according to pipeline operator Gassco, also needs more thought before any decision can be made, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe told reporters. “This region will be the next oil and gas province in Norway... hopefully there is a lot more to be discovered there,” Borten Moe said. These future discoveries are a key plank in Norway’s plan to keep the combined oil and gas output broadly steady “for decades to come”, Borten Moe added. Before the pipeline plan can go ahead, questions regarding commercial viability have to be answered and investors must also examine whether a pipeline is a better option than liquefied natural gas (LNG), Borten Moe said.

IPLOCA’s Training Committee will meet at Caterpillar’s Malaga Demonstration and Learning Center (MDLC) on 17-18 May 2012. The IPLOCA Board of Directors will also be invited to attend this meeting. One of the initiatives to be discussed during the meeting is the development of training specific to sideboom operators and suitable for training on a wide range of manufacturers’ equipment. Such training already exists but needs to be customised to IPLOCA’s needs. An idea under consideration is to make the training available in a computer-based or internet format.
