IRO Annual Report 2015

Preface 2015 was a dynamic and successful year for IRO and its member companies Covering the complete vertical supply chain from seismic to installation, our member companies work all over the world. Our 440 members are a mix of relatively small but highly specialised companies as well as larger, uniquely equipped companies. Besides having offices in the Netherlands, many of them also have offices abroad. In 2015 IRO arranged the Holland Pavilions at all major domestic and international oil and gas exhibitions and organised or undertook with the Dutch Government very successful trade missions to UK, UAE, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Mexico and Iran. The support of our embassies abroad proved to be very productive and we strongly believe in this joint approach. Since our member companies are among the world’s top five suppliers in the upstream oil and gas industry, their experience, innovative solutions and unique equipment are very well received in those countries that are working on existing or new upstream projects. Low oil prices and the geopolitical situation present many challenges as well as opportunities for the entire oil and gas industry. Some projects will be delayed or cancelled, while the scope of other projects and industry areas will be changed. Activities for decommissioning infrastructure and installing offshore wind farms will become more important.

Š IRO 2016

All this naturally has implications for contracts and pricing. For us in the industry, this means that we, even more than before, have to come up with cost-effective solutions to stay in the race. Dutch suppliers in the oil and gas industry have proven their ability to create innovative solutions that are unique in the world. The standard in the Netherlands is high. Collaboration between small and large services providers will lead to new solutions for the oil and gas industry at lower costs. Despite all the uncertainties that currently face us, energy needs will keep growing as a result of autonomous population growth in countries such as China, India, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia, and the concomitant growth in income and production of goods. The greatest share of energy will be supplied by fossil fuels. We therefore strongly believe that our member companies will continue to cope with these challenges and make 2016 a successful year!

Since its foundation in 1971 IRO has promoted the interests of the Dutch supply and service companies in the upstream oil and gas industry. Members cover all activities involved in the supply industry such as engineering, field development, pipeline installation, maintenance, manufacturing and material & equipment supply onshore as well as offshore.

OTC Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil The biennial Offshore Technology Conference in Rio de Janeiro had a Holland pavilion, situated in a strategic location at the entrance of the hall. The difficult market situation was noticeable in Rio, but the presence of a relatively high number of Dutch companies was very well received by the visitors in a clear indication that it can be wise to maintain marketing investments, especially when the going gets tough. In 2016 it is Rio Oil & Gas Expo’s turn to organise Brazil’s offshore conference. IRO will be present with a Holland pavilion. ADIPEC, Abu Dhabi, UAE The 2015 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) was the largest in the event’s history. ADIPEC is firmly established as the Middle East’s premier event of its kind and is likely to surpass OTC Houston as the biggest Offshore event in the world. In 2015 IRO participated in ADIPEC with 30 companies and a Holland pavilion measuring 390 m2. In 2016 the goal is to have an even stronger presence at ADIPEC, taking into account the regional developments regarding the lifting of sanctions against Iran.

IRO Annual Report 2015

Network events Several times a year IRO organises meetings with and for its members. The main goal of these meetings is to give members the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and to do business successfully by using the association’s vast network. In general the host company gives a presentation about its activities, which is followed by an excursion and drinks with an opportunity for networking. For the host company, this is a great opportunity to provide greater insight into its business activities. To create a larger network, IRO also organises meetings to which non-members are invited. IRO New Year’s Reception On 14 January 2015 the very successful IRO New Year’s reception was held at the ‘Wereldmuseum’ in Rotterdam. True to tradition, IRO Chairman Pieter van Oord, Managing Director Sander Vergroesen and several Board members welcomed the guests at the entrance. The reception attracts more and more guests every year, which shows the importance of networking in our industry. About 330 guests were present. Besides IRO members, there were also a number of special guests, including representatives from embassies of prominent oil countries.

IRO-CEDA members meeting About 135 IRO and CEDA members attended the successful annual joint meeting on 12 March 2015. Different topics concerning both the dredging and oil and gas industry were discussed. The recent developments in oil prices not only influence the oil industry, but also related activities such as dredging. Richard Brakenhoff, industry analyst at Rabobank, gave Rabobank’s view on this subject with a presentation on their market research report ‘Offshore Energy, Oil services’ market faces short-term dip, but long-term rise’. Jan Vlak, Operations Manager Subsea Rock Installations at Van Oord, followed with a presentation with the title ‘Dredging in the deep’; a presentation about excavation works at great water depth as preparation for pipeline routes. Van Oord Offshore executed two projects where soil was removed at water depths up to 650 m. Challenging soil conditions were encountered, like very hard silt (at Northern Scarp, Australia, 625-657 m) and the presence of coral on the seabed (Polarled, Norway, 115-375 m). The combination of the Grab with FPROV resulted in effective positioning control and effective control of the deposited material. Another area where dredging and offshore converge on the seabed is the innovative technologies that are used in both industries. Henk Cornegé, Senior Business Development

9

Manager at Royal IHC, gave an interesting presentation entitled ‘The seabed: where dredging and offshore meet each other’. The meeting was followed by network drinks. IRO members attend guided tour on board the impressive Pioneering Spirit On 9 April 2015 about 400 IRO members were privileged to attend a guided tour on board the Pioneering Spirit. Pioneering Spirit - the new vessel from Allseas for platform installation, platform removal and pipe laying - is the largest working vessel in the world. The most notable features of Pioneering Spirit is the ship’s size, huge lifting capacity, and the innovative motion compensation system that makes working in rough seas possible. Once in position, a drilling platform can be lifted in just 9 seconds. The 2.5-hour guided tour took the attendees through several parts and areas of the immense vessel, like the engine rooms with power generation equipment, thrusters and pipe welding area, crew accommodation and helideck. 2015 Oil & Gas Industry Forecast On 14 April 2015 the annual IRO-EY Oil & Gas Industry Forecast meeting took place in the STC building in Rotterdam. About 230 persons attended the event. The insights and views of leading experts on the dramatically changed situation in our industry, with unforeseen challenges and, for some, possible extra opportunities, were presented during the event. On behalf of WoodMacKenzie, Luke Parker, Principal Analyst, gave an interesting presentation on the worldwide developments in oil and gas and expected capital expenditure. The largest companies will cut USD 175 billion of development CAPEX from 2015-2020. For worldwide developments, Coby van der Linde, Director of Clingendael International Energy Programme and professor of Geopolitics and Energy Management at the University of Groningen, continued with her view on the short and mediumterm challenges in oil & gas from the Dutch angle. She advised companies to engage in the energy discussion for the long term and emphasised that quality is more important than volume.

10

Employment & Education

On 27 January 2015 an IRO Gas Committee meeting was held at the Frames Group in Woerden.

IRO together with NOGEPA continues its efforts to attract more qualified young staff to our industry. At various levels input is given to education programmes and events.

Theme of the meeting was the opportunities in the Netherlands that are still present with regard to gas exploration and production. Presentations were given by EBN, Technip and Frames. The conclusion of the presentations was that there are still ample opportunities in the Netherlands because of the favourable investment climate. However, costs have to be diminished by applying lean technology. The demonstration of the Frames gas test unit was very interesting, as was the tour of the adjacent factory where all Frames metal work is fabricated. The meeting was completed with a network reception. About 70 persons attended the meeting.

KIVI-IRO techno starters lecture As part of the KIVI Offshore Technology lecture events 20152016 IRO in cooperation with KIVI organised an evening lecture on techno starters at RDM Campus in Rotterdam-Heijplaat on 15 October 2015. It was the third year that IRO and KIVI organised an evening lecture on techno starters. Presenters in 2015 were: Delft Inversion, Archimedes Solutions, Enersea and SeaOwls. The speakers all had innovative ideas about brand new technologies and methodologies, that led to the start of their own companies. About 50 persons attended the event. The participants were invited to join a guided tour through the Innovation Dock, ending at Ampelmann’s workshop. Ampelmann started its business at RDM, a perfect example of a successful techno starter. The evening was concluded by a panel discussion.

At the IRO Annual General Meeting on 18 November 2015 Jan Willem van der Graaf, Managing Director Seaway Heavy Lifting, was nominated as IRO board member and chairman of the IRO Offshore Renewable Installations Committee (ORIC). Jan Willem van der Graaf succeeds Willem Griffioen, Managing Director Mercon, as chairman of the committee.

Meeting at Bosch Rexroth On 10 November 2015 an IRO Innovation and Regulatory Affairs Committee meeting took place at Bosch Rexroth in Boxtel. Bosch Rexroth is building and testing an ‘Active Heave Compensator System’ with a capacity 630mT suitable to handle loads in ultra-deep water.

Offshore wind mission to London In cooperation with the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce, Holland Home of Wind Energy and TKI Wind Op Zee, IRO organised its yearly offshore wind mission to the UK from 23-25 June 2015. The mission took place during the Global Offshore Wind Conference and Exhibition in London. Thirteen companies joined the mission. Presentations were given by the Crown Estate, Scottish Power, RES Offshore, Dong Energy, Eneco/EDF Joint Venture and Semco Maritime. Furthermore, there were opportunities for individual matchmaking and to visit the exhibition.

Chairman Rob Luijnenburg, Fugro

Chairman Jan Willem van der Graaf, Seaway Heavy Lifting

Frans Aertsen, Smulders Projects, former IRO Offshore Renewable Installations Committee chairman (2008-2012) who was still active in representing IRO in the Offshore Committee of the Netherlands Wind Energy Association, decided to stop his activities for IRO per 31 December 2015. IRO thanks both Willem Griffioen and Frans Aertsen for their commitment to the Offshore Renewable Installations Committee.

Due to the large number of offshore wind events taking place in the Netherlands, the ORIC did not organise any other activity in the Netherlands besides the mission to the UK. Other organisations

IRO Innovation Event On 3 December 2015 IRO organised an innovation event. The theme of the event was: ‘What can the oil and gas industry learn from space technology?’. The event took place at ESTEC, the research centre of the European Space Agency in Noordwijk. Part of the event was the IRO Innovation Prize Contest. Winner of the IRO Innovation prize 2015 was Ulstein Equipment with the Ulstein Colibri. The Ulstein Colibri crane add-on is a compact and efficient 3D motion-compensated handling system for the purpose of increasing vessel operability. The system is mounted on the tip of a standard crane as a new-build option, or retrofit. The two other companies nominated for the IRO Innovation prize were Fugro with the ‘3Direct’, an accurate and continuous hands-off positioning through video stream tracking of 3D structures; and

which are active in organising offshore wind events, and where IRO members are welcome are the quarterly Q meetings of Siemens and Van Oord, the innovations events focused on lowering the costs of offshore wind of TKI Wind Op Zee, the events organised by the province of North Holland, FME and Holland Home of Wind Energy. Following the IRO visit to the EWEA offshore wind conference and exhibition from 10-12 March 2015 where participation of Dutch companies was overwhelming, IRO has decided to have a stand at the next EWEA Offshore Wind Conference and Exhibition in London in 2017. Underwater noise study On 27 January 2015 there was a meeting of the user advisory group of the underwater noise study. This â‚Ź 800.000 study is being supported by the Government, NOGEPA and IRO (HMC, SHL, IHC Hydrohammer and Jumbo). The study is now in its fourth and final year. There are three sub studies. The first maps the various kinds of sounds/noise, the second the effect of sound (noise from piling/ seismic) on fish and the third on the effect on marine mammals. Though no conclusive results are expected the study is still valuable as the sponsoring companies can use it to prove that they are doing long time research with regard to the effect of noise at sea. This seems to be a requirement when applying for permits for activities that produce noise at sea (according to NAM).

Well Services and Drilling Committee

Chairman Peter de Bruijne, Paragon Offshore An IRO Well Services and Drilling Committee meeting took place on board of the Paragon Offshore Drilling Rig C20052 moored at the Eemshaven on 26 June 2015. Agenda points of the meeting were: extending tour length from 2 to 3 weeks and TNO report; implementation European safety directive; participation IWSG in NOGEPA meetings; the new shoot master regulations and shoulder measure rules for helicopter passengers. The meeting which was attended by 20 persons was concluded with a tour of the drilling rig.

Supply chain tool offshore wind IRO participated in the advisory committee of TKI Wind Op Zee in the realisation of an offshore wind supply chain tool (offshore wind industry directory). The supply chain tool can be found on the TKI Wind Op Zee website www.tki-windopzee.nl and is an important instrument for promoting the Dutch offshore wind supply industry. All Dutch companies in offshore wind are welcome to register their company in the supply chain tool.

Cooperation with other organisations Over the year much attention was again paid to cooperation with other organisations and associations for the purpose of exchanging information and exploring common areas of interest. In the field of export promotion, a number of activities and events were organised jointly, or with the support of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, ‘RVO’), Dutch embassies and consulates abroad, the Dutch Maritime Network (NML) and FME-CWM. Exchange of professional information took place with the Netherlands Diving Centre (NDC), the Royal Institution of Engineers (KIVI), the Central Dredging Association (CEDA), FME-CWM and various NML partners. Several joint activities, such as technical seminars and presentations, were organised during the year. IRO would like to thank these organisations for their generous cooperation. At the national level IRO maintained its close ties with NOGEPA and a frequent exchange of views took place on a number of subjects of mutual interest. The joint IRO/NOGEPA project on education and employment was further extended during the year and will be continued in 2016. IRO also participated again in the regular consultation meetings with the State Supervision of Mines (SodM), NOGEPA and IADC. These meetings have proven to be a very successful medium for exchanging information and reaching agreement

on common viewpoints regarding topics such as legislation, HSE issues and labour conditions. Netherlands Maritime Network (NML) This foundation wants to improve the image and the reputation of the complete Dutch maritime cluster consisting of 12 sectors. Since offshore plays an important role in this cluster, IRO participates in board meetings and councils dealing with innovation, export, human capital and public relations. Active participation in NML activities in 2015 resulted in the offshore oil and gas industry being better emphasised in the 2015 Maritime Monitor, two subsidies for IRO events and the nomination of the OTC exhibition in Houston as a strategic exhibition in 2015. Another very important example of a fruitful cooperation with the sectors within NML was the proposal and governmental approval of the ‘Maritime Strategy 2015-2025’ for the complete maritime cluster, thus also including Offshore. This strategy should make a significant contribution to the top international sustainable maritime position held by the Netherlands and that of Offshore in particular. From January 2015 onwards, Sander Vergroesen, Managing Director IRO, is chairing the NML Trade Board. EURONET At the international level, the useful and amicable cooperation with our fellow European organisations was maintained through the informal EURONET network. EURONET now consists of the national associations of the United Kingdom (EIC, Energy North, ITF, Decom North Sea), Norway (Norsk Industri), Denmark (DMOG), Belgium (Carbon Energy Club), France (GEP-AFTP) and the Netherlands (IRO).
