IRO Annual Report 2016

Preface If we would summarise the past year, one word says it all: Transition. It is clear that we are facing a time with a shifting energy mix, where we have to adapt to a different way of working, in ever changing and unpredictable geo-political circumstances. The Dutch have been hit hard by the downturn in the oil and gas industry and drastic measures were necessary to keep our heads above the water. With uncertain times behind us, now we are looking at a challenging and positive future ahead. In this year of IRO’s 45th anniversary, shaping the Energy Transition has been top priority on the agenda. To show the capabilities and involvement of our member companies in the developments that come with this energy transition, we changed the name of our Association. IRO continues its activities under the name of: The Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Oil and Gas Industry and Offshore Renewable Industry. The sustaining low oil prices as well as depletion of conventional resources in our traditional home market, the North Sea, resulted in a diversification in portfolios of many of our member companies; an absolute must to address the transition and to be less vulnerable to the volatility of oil prices. In the past few years, an increasing number of IRO members have delivered impressive project results in the Offshore Wind market already and some promising developments are yet to come. With the North Sea in our front yard where many assets are nearing their end-of-life, the decommissioning market is one with great potential for the Dutch supply chain. Two ground-breaking, unprecedented projects executed by Allseas’ vessel Pioneering Spirit in 2016 and 2017 have set a new mark in the decommissioning market. It is important to be on top of market developments and to swiftly act on opportunities as they arise. The Dutch offshore industry has built up an impressive track record in the upstream oil and gas sector. Decommissioning activities fit in very well within the core business of these IRO members. All the necessary elements to serve this market are available within the Dutch supply chain, varying from engineering, equipment supply and contracting. The major challenge for the coming period is to maintain and reinforce our position in the Top 5 of global suppliers in the offshore energy industry, with a full integration of offshore renewables such as offshore wind, marine and tidal energy. In this respect, collaboration amongst industry stakeholders is vital.

challenges, and raising industry responsibility and awareness. It is obvious that, with the transition in progress, the Dutch supply chain is quickly adapting to new market conditions. Whilst our IRO members will keep focusing on cost-efficiency, sustainability and innovation in conventional oil and gas developments on a global scale, the energy transition presents us with vast opportunities to maintain our position as a frontrunner in the global energy industry. Despite the hard times that are behind us, the Dutch are ready to go full steam ahead!

The Oil, Gas and Offshore Renewable supply industry in the Netherlands belongs to the Top 5 of the world. Acting as the gateway to Dutch suppliers in the energy industry, the IRO mission is ultimately aimed at maintaining and strengthening the position of the Dutch Oil, Gas and Offshore Renewable industry by creating a level playing field for its members. IRO’s nearly 450 members consist of a wide variety of both multinationals and SMEs. They represent the entire supply chain within the Oil, Gas and Offshore Renewable industry, with activities covering: Engineering & Consultancy, Construction & Fabrication, Plant & Equipment Supply, Contracting & Installation, Exploration & Production and Personnel & HSE, both for offshore upstream oil & gas and offshore renewables (wind and marine energy).

An important step to search for sustainable and innovative synergies between conventional and renewable markets is the North Sea Energy Challenge, a collaboration between offshore oil and gas operators, offshore wind industry and NGO’s to support and expedite the energy transition. Another industry initiative, Our Ocean’s Challenge, is a massive open online innovation platform. This collaboration is aimed at connecting the offshore industry with practical, viable solutions by identifying industry-wide sustainability

Trade & Export Promotion Export promotion remains an import activity of IRO. In 2016 a large number of activities were organised, such as participation in oil and gas exhibitions, outgoing and incoming trade missions and other export promotional activities. Some of these activities were organised by IRO in close cooperation with other organisations (e.g. FME, NMT, and other (foreign) associations) and embassies. Below you can find an overview of these activities divided by country. Japan On 5 February 2016, IRO in cooperation with DJMD (Dutch – Japanese Maritime Desk) and Rotterdam Partners organised a seminar on doing business in the offshore oil and gas industry in Japan. DJMD President Justus Schoemaker gave a presentation on the plans in Japan to revive the offshore industry. The event at the Maritime Museum Rotterdam attracted 70 participants and was followed up with a brainstorm event on 10 October 2016. Malaysia From 22-25 March 2016 eighteen companies participated in the Holland Pavilion organised by NMT at the OTC Asia in Kuala Lumpur. IRO participated with an information stand. Also in Malaysia the downfall of the oil price is felt. Petronas laid off many workers. No decisions about projects were made, however most participants were still content with the contacts made. IRO was awarded an 1.5 hour slot at the OTC Asia conference on 23 March 2016 to give a presentation on Dutch gas technology. The following companies were selected to give presentations: TNO, Ampelmann, Frames, Gusto and Airborne (all were participants at OTC Asia). Mexico The liberalisation of the Mexican upstream oil and gas industry provides vast opportunities for foreign companies. IRO coordinated the participation of eight companies in the Dutch Energy Chamber Holland Pavilion at the Mexican Petroleum Congress from 8-11 June in Monterrey, Mexico. Participation was made possible through support by the Top sector Water. IRO actively participates in the Mexico steering group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that is established to give content to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Netherlands and Mexico in the field of Energy. The Mexico steering group initiates and coordinates bilateral energy related activities between the Netherlands and Mexico, such as the visit of a delegation of five Mexican companies to the Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference on 25 and 26 October 2016 in the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam. Italy The IRO oil and gas mission to Milan from 26-28 September 2016 was a great success. Twelve companies (all IRO members) participated in the mission: Airborne Oil & Gas, Broekman Logistics,

4

Certeq, Damen Shipyards Group, Frames, Gouda Holland, Interdam, JB Systems, KH Engineering, New Cosmos-Bie, Tideland-IMT and Van Leusden. Italian companies that were visited: ENI, Saipem, Siirtec NIGI, Techint Group/Tenaris and the Prysmian Group. The program furthermore included a cocktail network reception with members of Assolombarda (regional employers’ organisation). The mission was headed by IRO board member Paul Koop and was organised with excellent support from the Netherlands Consulate General in Milan. Vietnam AETIN ((Advanced Energy Technologies International) organised the following activities on Vietnam in 2016: ··Trade Mission Vietnam Offshore & Maritime, 12-17 October 2016 ··Holland Pavilion at Vietnam Oil & Gas and Maritime, Vung Tau, 18-20 October 2016 Iran The lifting of the European sanctions on Iran presents enormous opportunities for Dutch suppliers in the oil and gas industry. As a result many trade promotion activities were organised in 2016 by various parties. However, due to continuing US sanctions on Iran, financial barriers to do business in Iran still exist. This is also the most import issue of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs steering group on Iran which initiates and coordinates bilateral activities between the Netherlands and Iran. IRO actively participates in the Iran steering group. Dutch Energy Solutions Working Group Iran Dutch Energy Solutions (DES) is an IRO and FME initiative to assist companies in doing business in the oil and gas industry in the Gulf States. With the lifting of the European sanctions, Iran has been included in the activities of DES. To assist Dutch suppliers to the oil and gas industry in doing business in Iran, the Working Group Iran (DES WG Iran) within Dutch Energy Solutions provides an exclusive platform for sharing knowledge, combining Dutch forces and facilitating collective approaches in order to be more successful in identifying, winning and executing oil and gas projects in Iran. DES WG Iran is financially supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) under the Partners in International Business (PIB) program. In May 2016 DES organised a Holland Pavilion at the Iran Oil Show. Furthermore a Letter of Intent with the Society of Iranian Petroleum Industry Equipment Manufacturers (SIPIEM) on mutual cooperation with regard to trade, technology and training was signed.

Overview international exhibitions 2016 Despite the downturn in the industry, a significant decrease in the number of participants and more focus on ROI, IRO members are still interested to participate in international exhibitions around the world. In 2016 IRO organised Holland pavilions at the following exhibitions: Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), Houston, USA In its nearly 50-year history, OTC is traditionally considered as the prime annual event where the entire global Offshore industry is meeting up. More than 68,000 attendees from 120 countries gathered at the annual conference and exhibition Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, USA, in May 2016. With 2,600 companies present at the 2016 edition of the exhibition, OTC was very well received by both exhibitors as well as visitors. The nearly 50 exhibitors at the Holland pavilion represented a wide variety of companies; from maritime, shipbuilding and scientific institutions to a vast range of companies in the manufacturing and service-providing industries. With the Holland Network Reception in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston accommodating more than 350 guests, a visit of the Dutch ambassador in the USA, H.E. Mr Henne Schuwer, to the exhibition and the evening reception, and support from TSW/Kernteam Export & Promotie via the Maritime by Holland (NML) Trade Council, OTC 2016 can be considered as a great success.

Offshore Northern Seas (ONS), Stavanger, Norway Despite difficult market conditions in the North Sea, exhibitors and visitors at the 2016 edition of the ONS Exhibition & Conference in Stavanger, Norway, seemed cautiously positive about the current transition that is taking place within the industry. The IRO Holland pavilion, with a representation of 30 Dutch companies, attracted many visitors, interested in Dutch know-how and technology. ONS 2016 received 65,000 visitors and 1,241 exhibiting companies from 40 countries. Ambassador of the Netherlands in Norway, Mrs Bea ten Tusscher, had informative meetings with the exhibitors at the Holland pavilion and also hosted the Dutch networking reception on a tallship in Stavanger harbour. Rio Oil & Gas, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Unfortunately, the Holland pavilion at the Rio Oil & Gas show had to be cancelled due to a lack of interest amongst the IRO members. ADIPEC, Abu Dhabi, UAE With an interesting mix of nearly 30 companies participating in the Holland pavilion, again ADIPEC proved to be the leading oil & gas show in the Gulf region and far beyond. The 2016 ADIPEC exhibition and conference attracted 2000+ exhibitors and more than 90,000 visitors from over 120 countries. Despite a slower progress at a number of projects and continuing challenges in the current market, there seems to be a stable, and even growing level of activity in the

5

Gulf region, causing an overall optimistic atmosphere and confidence in the industry’s future. During this year’s ADIPEC, the valuable support of the Holland + You project offered ample opportunities for additional exposure and networking for the Dutch participants, with extensive coverage in the Show Daily magazines, including interviews with Ambassador H.E. Frank Mollen and IRO Managing Director Sander Vergroesen, as well as several networking opportunities and a networking reception on the second exhibition day. OSEA, Singapore OSEA 2016 attracted 18,000 visitors from around the world gathered at the 4-day exhibition and conference. The exhibition accommodated 1,070 exhibitors from 48 countries/regions. The Holland pavilion, with a floor space of over 400 m², was jointly organised by IRO and NMT and presented 25 exhibiting companies with a wide variety of activities in shipbuilding, material supply and service providers. Ambassador of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr Jacques Werner, hosted a very successful networking reception at his Residence, with great attendance of the business community from Singapore and the Netherlands.

Conferences and exhibitions endorsed by IRO IRO endorsed, promoted and sponsored a number of conferences and exhibitions organised by third parties in the Netherlands. Offshore Pipeline Technology 2016 On 23-25 February this conference took place in Amsterdam. IRO supported the event by providing event information in IRO News and by distributing the Netherlands Oil & Gas Catalogue among event participants. In addition, IRO is a member of the Offshore Energy Committee of Recommendation and supports the Offshore Energy Opening Gala Dinner and Awards Show, the official start of the event.

(International) cooperation with other organisations Over the year much attention was paid to cooperation with other organisations and associations for the purpose of exchanging information and exploring common areas of interest. In the field of export promotion, a number of activities and events were organised jointly, or with the support of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Dutch embassies and consulates abroad, Maritime by Holland (NML) and FME-CWM. Exchange of professional information took place with the Netherlands Diving Centre (NDC), the Royal Institution of Engineers (KIVI), the Central Dredging Association (CEDA), FME-CWM and various Maritime by Holland (NML) partners. Several joint activities, such as technical seminars and presentations, were organised during the year. IRO would like to thank these organisations for the pleasant cooperation. At national level, IRO maintained its close ties with NOGEPA by a frequent exchange of views on a number of subjects of mutual interest. The joint IRO/NOGEPA project on education and employment was further extended during the year. IRO also participated in the regular consultation meetings with the State Supervision of Mines (SodM), NOGEPA and IADC. These meetings have proved to be a very successful medium for exchanging information and reaching agreement on common viewpoints regarding topics such as legislation, HSE issues and labour conditions. Maritime by Holland (NML) This platform wants to improve the image and the reputation of the complete Dutch maritime cluster consisting of 12 sectors. Since offshore plays an important role in this cluster, IRO participates

Network events Several times a year IRO organises meetings with and for its members. The main goal of these meetings is to give members the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and to do business successfully by using the association’s vast network. In general the host company gives a presentation about its activities, which is followed by an excursion and drinks with an opportunity for networking. For the host company, this is a great opportunity to provide greater insight into its business activities. To create a larger network, IRO also organises meetings to which non-members are invited. IRO New Year’s Reception On 14 January 2015 the very successful IRO New Year’s reception was held at the ‘Wereldmuseum’ in Rotterdam. True to tradition, IRO Chairman Pieter van Oord, Managing Director Sander Vergroesen and several Board members welcomed the guests at the entrance. The reception attracts more and more guests every year, which shows the importance of networking in our industry. About 330 guests were present. Besides IRO members, there were also a number of special

7

guests, including representatives from embassies of prominent oil countries. In his annual speech, Pieter van Oord said: “In 2015 we expected that the oil prices would recover, however now it has taken a different turn. The consequences for our industry are considerable. At the end of 2015 already more than $ 200 billion worth of projects have been cancelled or postponed. We will have to get used to deal with a low oil price in the coming years. For suppliers in this industry order books are drying up quickly. Due to the large variety of the companies within our member base, these changing market conditions are experienced in different ways. The big question is how we, as Dutch oil and gas cluster, can come out stronger from the crisis. The possible responses for our industry are located in several strategic actions, as stated in the McKinsey report, ‘Lower for longer ‘: ·· Disruptive cost reduction (product modularisation, module optimization, supplier management) ··Consolidation (enlarge market share) ·· Convergence (cooperation between parties for integral offer of services to client) ·· Identify pockets of growth (decommissioning, offshore renewables) IRO-CEDA meeting on Offshore wind On 10 March 2016 the successful annual IRO-CEDA meeting took place in Voorschoten. About 130 IRO and CEDA members joined the interesting meeting with the theme ‘Offshore Wind: ongoing developments’. Partly due to the recent developments in the oil and gas industry, the current social attention is (again) extra keen on innovations within the offshore energy/offshore wind. Ruud Bruijne, Project Manager Offshore Windenergie at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), gave a presentation on ‘Wind energy at sea in Europe: Current developments in the field of renewable offshore energy/offshore wind’. Jasper Vis, Board member Netherlands Wind Energy Association (NWEA) and Manager Regulatory Affairs at Dong Energy, continued on the future of offshore wind energy and the role of the Dutch offshore sector. Bart Jan van Burgel, Project Manager cable lay vessels at Royal IHC, followed with an overview of offshore wind developments from a construction & installation vessel suppliers perspective. Edwin van de Brug, Regional Manager Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects, concluded with a presentation ‘Ongoing developments and logistic approach of offshore wind foundations’. The meeting was closed with network drinks. Members meeting at Seatools On 7 April 2016 a successful members meeting took place at Seatools, a supplier of subsea equipment. Van Oord has granted Seatools the engineering and building of the ROV7 for their new Subsea Rock Installation vessel Bravenes. The Bravenes features leading innovations in rock handling and installation processes, which will allow it to precisely construct subsea foundations, addressing the future demands of both the oil & gas and the offshore wind power

8

industries. Jan Frumau, Managing Director of Seatools welcomed the more than 100 IRO members at their premises where the ROV was displayed in its full glory. He gave a presentation on the company and Emile ‘t Gilde, Procurement Officer CAPEX at Van Oord, focused on the cooperation between Van Oord and Seatools for this interesting project. After the presentations the participants were able to go around the engineering and drawing rooms. The members meeting was concluded with network drinks. IRO-EY Oil & Gas Industry Forecast 2016 On 12 April 2016 the annual IRO-EY Oil & Gas Industry Forecast meeting took place at the STC building in Rotterdam. About 170 persons attended the event. More than ever, the unprecedented fall in oil prices raises the question what the coming years will bring us. The 2016 program focused entirely on this issue, sharing the insights and views of leading experts on the matter. Malcolm Dickson, Principal Analyst from Wood Mackenzie, placed the investments in the North Sea in a global context and René Peters, TNO Director Gas Technology gave a presentation on the possibilities for oil, gas and offshore wind initiatives to reinforce each other. On behalf of EY, Donald Featherstone gave a presentation elaborating on the results of the Dutch Oilfield Services Survey 2015, that was presented on the same day. Seminar Doing Business in the Oil and Gas Industry On 17 May 2016 a seminar on doing business in the oil and gas industry in light of the low oil price was held in the Maritime Museum Rotterdam. Bob Rietveld, former Managing Director of Ulstein, and Willem de Vries of STEM gave a presentation titled ‘The Future of the Offshore Industry: what to do when the market becomes unpredictable’. Jaco Fleumer, Business Development Manager of HSM, gave a presentation on how HSM, a 54 year old platform fabricator, has successfully adapted to changing offshore market conditions. 48 persons attended the meeting. The idea behind the seminar, the first of its kind, is to organise a sequence of seminars where experienced IRO members with different backgrounds in the vertical production chain give presentations on doing business in the oil and gas industry to newcomers in the industry, ‘How do you do it’.

Members meeting at Breman Machinery On 9 June 2016 a successful members meeting took place at Breman Machinery in Genemuiden. With 100 attendees the meeting was very well visited. After the presentations of Henk Breman, Managing Director of Breman and David Buschman, Managing Director of Merford, there was a guided tour around the impressive factory. Zeeland Seaports hosts successful IRO member meeting On 12 October 2016, over 100 IRO members enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in Vlissingen; the meeting place for the last IRO member meeting in 2016. Zeeland Seaports welcomed the participants at the Damen yard in Vlissingen, where the group embarked for a tour across Vlissingen harbour. Presentations on board were held by Zeeland Seaports, Dong Energy, Verbrugge Terminals and Supermaritime. As usual, the event presented excellent networking opportunities in an open and informal setting. Annual General Meeting – IRO name change The IRO Annual General Meeting took place on 24 November 2016 in the Hulstkamp building in Rotterdam right before IRO’s 45th anniversary program. The main items on the agenda were the finances of the association and (re)appointments of Board members. Challenging market developments have had their repercussions on the Association, several measurements have therefore been taken in order the assure the financial stability of the Association.

In view of the current developments related to the transition from traditional energy sources to renewables, the Board of IRO proposed a change in the mission and name of the Association to better reflect the versatility of the activities and capabilities of the IRO members. During the Annual General Meeting the proposal was presented to the members. However, as the required quorum of ordinary members with voting rights was not present at that time, the decision was postponed to a later meeting on 6 December 2016. During that meeting, the name change was accepted, meaning that the new name in the Articles of Association will be: ‘Vereniging Industriële Raad voor de Olie- en Gasindustrie en Offshore Renewable Industrie, afgekort IRO’. For day-to-day business, IRO will use the name ‘Branchevereniging voor de Nederlandse Toeleveranciers in de Olie- en Gasindustrie en Offshore Renewable Industrie’ or in English ‘The Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Oil and Gas Industry and Offshore Renewable Industry”. As of 2017, this change in both name and purpose, will result in IRO intensifying their efforts and activities related to offshore wind and other forms of marine renewable energy sources. The current set of communication materials will be gradually adapted in line with the new mission.

IRO celebrates 45th anniversary! On 24 November 2016, the 45th anniversary of IRO was celebrated in the beautiful Hulstkamp building in Rotterdam. About 270 people attended the varied afternoon and evening program. The program included the following highlights:

winning teams of the Offshore Design Contest, held by the HBO Offshore Network at their symposium earlier that month, presented their designs on stage. The theme of the contest was focused on efficiency and sustainability in the offshore industry. IRO Award of Excellence 2016 Since 2006, this prize is awarded every five years to a person who has distinguished himself in the oil and gas industry. The 2016 edition of the IRO Award of Excellence was awarded to Jan van der Tempel (the founder of Ampelmann), by Edward Heerema (winner in 2011).

Panel discussion Moderator Roelof Hemmen led an animated discussion between Marjan van Loon (CEO Shell Netherlands) and Pieter van Oord (CEO Van Oord and Chairman IRO) where Marjan van Loon defended the interests of the oil and gas industry, but with a wink to the wind sector, and Pieter van Oord indicated why he and his company now embrace the wind sector. ‘Move and innovate’ is the advice of Marjan van Loon for the Dutch suppliers to the oil and gas industry. HBO Offshore Design Contest As usual a part of the anniversary program was focused on youngsters. HBO Offshore Network is an initiative of IRO with HBO programs at Avans, NHL University, Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz and Hogeschool Rotterdam. Hogeschool Rotterdam. The

Human Capital & Education IRO cooperates with NOGEPA on topics such as human capital, education, labour and safety training related issues. Together both associations cover the oil and gas industry as a whole; NOGEPA from an Operator perspective, whilst IRO represents the Supply Chain. Labour time issue NOGEPA is lobbying to open the possibility for a ‘3 on, 3 off’ scheme for working on offshore platforms in the Dutch Continental Shelf as an option next to the ‘2 on, 2 off’ scheme. A survey by FNV amongst its members for this 3/3 option surprisingly revealed that there were many issues related to labour time violation. In an IRO Well Services and Drilling Committee meeting at FNV it was agreed that NOGEPA, IADC and IRO will publish a statement to urge contractors to comply with the labour time regulations.

HBO Offshore Network On 10 November 2016 the HBO Offshore Network Symposium ‘Efficiency and Sustainability’ in the Dutch Offshore industry took place at the AVANS Hogeschool in Den Bosch. About 200 students from the Minor Offshore Engineering (AVANS Hogeschool, Den Bosch), Minor Offshore Construction (Hogeschool Rotterdam) and the Minor Oil & Gas (MCN, NHL, Den Helder) and MIWB (NHL, Terschelling) attended the symposium with presentations from Allseas, Wärtsilä and Total. The students brainstormed over the design of a most energy efficient offshore vessel and they presented their ideas in one-minute pitches. Qompas IRO and NOGEPA are supporting job descriptions in the Career test ‘Studiekeuze’ for Secondary education and ‘Sectorkeuze’ for Vocational students. The job descriptions are accompanied by short videos. The functions are Welder, Operator, Work-planner,

Symposium Sustainable Deployment in the Offshore Industry On 26 May 2016 the Symposium ‘Sustainable Deployment in the Offshore Industry’ was organised at Quercus Technical Services in Berkel en Rodenrijs. Explosion safety in the offshore industry, maintenance of knowledge and behaviour, laws and regulations on the Dutch Continental Shelf and other themes were part of the program. About 35 persons attended the symposium. IRO Safety & Training Group meeting In 2016 only one IRO Safety and Training Group meeting took place on 29 November. Main subject on the agenda was the conversion of the NOGEPA Training Handbook into NOGEPA Industry training standards, as a result of the implementation of the EU offshore safety directive. Also the training course for working with explosives (Schietmeester) and related training and examination requirements were discussed. The course has been completely adapted as a result of the adaptation in the Labor Decree regarding the requirements for shooters (new registration system). The guidelines developed by the IRO Well Services Drilling Committee have been instrumental in establishing the training and exam guidelines. The training courses are given by Hogeschool Utrecht. Due to developments in the industry, it has been decided that ‘offshore wind training’ will be a fixed item on the agenda of the IRO Safety and Training Group. IRO together with NOGEPA continues its efforts to attract more qualified young staff to our industry. At various levels input was given in educational programs and events. www.werkenindewereldvanolieengas.nl IRO and NOGEPA have jointly developed this website to encourage young people to choose for a career in the dynamic world of oil and gas. Videos of various professions and themes of the sector as well as links to vocational training institutions and job opportunities are available at the website. The target audience of the website are pupils and students following primary, secondary and higher education.

Trending topics Offshore Renewables The offshore wind energy industry is booming. Dutch companies are involved in almost every European offshore wind project. IRO members, with their offshore know-how and equipment from the offshore oil and gas industry, play an important role in especially the maritime installation part of offshore wind energy projects. That is the reason for IRO to organise a large number of offshore wind related activities in 2016. ··The yearly IRO-CEDA meeting and the annual IRO-EY Oil & Gas Industry Forecast meeting both had offshore wind in their themes. ··On 16 March 2016 an Offshore Renewable Installations Committee (ORIC) meeting took place at HSM Offshore in Schiedam where HSM was finishing the production of a Horns Rev C Offshore High Voltage Substation. ··IRO participated in the NWEA Wind Days on 15 and 16 June 2016 with an information stand. ··IRO organised an Offshore Wind Mission to the UK from 20-22 June 2016 in cooperation with the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce and Holland Home of Wind Energy. The mission was organised in combination with a visit to the Global Offshore Wind Exhibition in Manchester, UK, from 21-22 June 2016.

··On 12 October 2016 IRO organised a members meeting at Zeeland Seaports. Zeeland Seaports plays an important role as a logistic hub for offshore wind (Borssele). A Dong presentation was part of the program. ··IRO also participated in the Navingo Offshore WIND Conference on 24 and 25 October in Amsterdam RAI. ··In 2016 the cooperation with the Netherlands Wind Association (NWEA) was also renewed. IRO is an active participant in the Offshore Committee of NWEA.

Decommissioning Decommissioning of Dutch oil and gas assets will be an important topic over the coming 2 decades as a large portion of these assets will reach the end of their economic life in this period. As the society is moving towards a renewable future, this presents an opportunity to re-use existing infrastructure to support renewable investments before safe and sustainable decommissioning. ··On 25 January 2016 IRO arranged a visit to the Pioneering Spirit for Mrs Betty de Boer, member of parliament, VVD Fraction. ··On 14 April 2016 IRO organised a decommissioning seminar in cooperation with Decom North Sea. Presenters were: Karen Seath of Decom North Sea, Jan Groot of PB Consultants, Dick Lagerweij of Boskalis, Joost Eenhuizen of Port of Rotterdam and Theo Volaard of

Corporate responsibility and sustainability All sorts of industries are looking for sustainable alternatives for products and processes that are unfavourable for the environment. Also in the offshore sector. There is attention for innovations that do not leave ‘footprint’. It will not take long before major changes take place and give the sector a new look. Companies are creative about the search for product and business sustainability. On 24 May 2016 Merford in cooperation with IRO organised a meeting titled ‘Cradle to Cradle in the oil and gas industry’. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability were the themes of this event. As a follow-up at this meeting, an IRO Corporate Responsibility committee is being established.

New IRO website In March 2016 IRO launched its new website with a fresh new look & feel. While illustrating the innovative industry with photos from IRO members, the website offers many opportunities to better profile the IRO members and industry as a whole. Press releases from IRO members are centrally published on the homepage and directly linked to their online member profile which can be shared via social media (Linkedin, Twitter, E-mail and Facebook). Many members have found their way to the website as this is also used to register for IRO events in the Calendar via a My IRO account. This My IRO environment has been created to improve the network functionality of the website. Aside event registration, the My IRO account also offers the possibility to have a look at registered IRO members with their member profiles and contact details as well as reports and presentations of past events, newsletters and other downloads. IRO Newsletter The IRO Newsletter has also been renewed and has a new look & feel in line with IRO’s corporate identity. The messages are short and concise with a click to the website for the complete message, which again creates more traffic to the website in favour of the members. A calendar is directly linked to the event item which facilitates swift registration. New members are also included with a click-through to their members profile on the website. Netherlands Oil & Gas Catalogue / Netherlands Suppliers Catalogue The Catalogue provides a good overview of the activities, products and services of Dutch suppliers to the oil and gas industry and offshore renewable industry and is an important tool for companies to present themselves. Every year around 6000 copies of this catalogue are sent to embassies and international parties all over the world. The Catalogue is handed out at exhibitions, trade missions, members meetings, training courses, career events, etc. Due to the change of activities of the association the catalogue has changed its name to Netherlands Suppliers Catalogue (2017 edition) and can be found online at www.iro-catalogue.nl. Offshore Holland The purpose of this magazine is to inform the international oil and gas industry of the services provided by Dutch companies that are related to the offshore industry. In addition, technological developments are announced and the magazine contributes to a positive image and positioning of the Netherlands as an innovative and resourceful partner country. Offshore Holland is published and distributed at
