Welcome Dear Princess Owner/Enthusiast, Welcome to My Princess, the official magazine for Princess Motor Yacht Sales and its dealer partners from around Europe and the Mediterranean. The summer edition of the magazine always seems to come around very quickly, recapping the year’s activities and events and looking forward to what’s on the horizon for the next six months. 2019 has seen so far one of the busiest events schedules we have created, with the R35 Roadshow flying the flag in the UK and overseas. The fantastic electric-blue model has been displayed ashore as much as in the water, in unique locations such as Cabot Square in Canary Wharf London, Lake Maggiore in Switzerland, Puerto Banus, Lisbon in Portugal, and the prestigious Harbour Hotel in Southampton. From her roadshow debut at Porsche Chester to her final events in Spain, the R35 has seen over 14 locations and has travelled over 6000 miles, wowing customers at every display. We have also attended other events such as the London Concours, Elite London and a variety of boat shows all over Europe. We have hosted numerous events over the season, bringing Princess owners and their guests together with members of our team to some fantastic locations including the F1 in Barcelona, a rendezvous to Jersey

for our UK owners, and visits to picturesque bays in the Balearic Islands, plus a ride and drive event in Dartmouth. The Princess V55 will have her Global Launch at this year’s Southampton Boat Show, alongside a magnificent display which also includes the Y85 and F45. The Cannes Yachting Festival takes place from 10th September and will showcase a bit of everything from the Princess range, including the Global Launch of the Princess F50 plus the revolutionary R35. Come along and see our stunning models for yourself. As a regular recipient of the magazine, you’ve probably become accustomed to our key features and articles - this issue is no different - we’ve got a heart-warming owner’s story for you from the McDougall family, as well as an inspiring read on the southern coast of Spain from a true food and drinks expert. Described as â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;an automotive garden party in the heart of the cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;, the Princess R35 may not strike you as something which fits into a supercar exhibition. Alongside the likes of Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley and other well-known brands, the R35 really stood out and captured the attention of those visiting the event.

Moving two boats into Canary Wharf in London was never going to be easy a spectacle such as this has never been seen before in what is known as the business headquarters of London. Outside the prestigious Boisdale restaurant lay the impressive R35 alongside a stunning Chris-Craft Corsair 34.

On the southern coast of Spain in the warm summer sun, we displayed the R35 in what is arguably her most suited destination. Visiting ports nearby including Estepona and Sotogrande, we gave our customers around Puerto Banus the chance to see this electricblue model in the flesh, both ashore and in the water.

ON BOARD SUMMER EVENTS

JERSEY SUMMER CRUISE 21st - 24th July Our annual summer cruise brings together our UK boat owners to venture across the channel to destinations they wouldn’t normally travel to on their own. A 48-hour delay due to bad weather meant our flotilla of 8 Princess yachts were able to leave at a more sensible time on Sunday, arriving into St Helier for 7.00pm for the opening of the marina gate. Moving the cruise by just 48 hours made a world of difference. We were even spotted from the sky by a fellow Princess owner making her way to Jersey! Hosted by our dealer partner, Princess Channel Islands, we enjoyed a welcome reception in the marina. With the sun shining, live music, fizz and canapés, this was truly a great introduction to the island life. Over the few days, we enjoyed activities including a trip to explore the history of the island at the Jersey War Tunnels. We also visited Les Minquiers, where we enjoyed clear turquoise waters and private sandbanks. On the hottest Jersey July day on record, we discovered traditional food and drink at the La Mare Wine Estate - this trip took us to the north of the island, where we could see the islands of Guernsey and Sark in the distance. On Tuesday evening, we hosted a special farewell dinner at Longueville Manor, the island’s highest rated 5-star resort. In a private courtyard our guests enjoyed cocktails before a 4-course meal, reminiscing on the cruise with each other. One thing to take away from these cruises is the confidence it brings to our owners; as we returned home, some stayed in Jersey to make the most of the week-long sunny weather before travelling back individually.

ON BOARD MALLORCA EVENTS

Our owners events in Mallorca not only have the most idyllic of locations, but also benefit from the warm Mediterranean sun. From May through to the end of August, our diary is full of a number of events to bring Princess owners and their guests together for unforgettable experiences and long-lasting memories.

F1 BARCELONA GRAND PRIX 10th - 13th May In the early hours of Friday morning our flotilla of 5 Princess yachts set sail from Port Adriano to Port Vell in Barcelona, for a weekend of high-octane Formula 1 thrill. For this particular event, we also invited Princess customers from overseas to join us in Barcelona; this had a great uptake with a number of people choosing to fly in for the event and stay overnight. The glistening Mediterranean waters provided us with a smooth crossing, ideal cruising conditions and even the odd sight of a pod of dolphins en route! A typical introduction to traditional Spanish food and drink, we dined at the restaurant La Barceloneta on the first evening. The Princess team and our guests came together for an informal meal in the late evening sun, as we recapped on the crossing and looked forward to the weekendâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s activities ahead. Saturday saw the all-important qualification race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya; some of our guests enjoyed the race, whilst others took a more relaxing alternative, at the Puro Beach and beach club or discovering the town of Barcelona. Race day was upon us, the sun was shining and the drivers were getting ready for what would be a memorable GP here in Barcelona. Our Princess owners and their guests enjoyed VIP hospitality in the exclusive Princess suite, overlooking the starting line of the race circuit. Over glasses of fizz and delicious canapĂŠs, we

watched as Lewis Hamilton took 1st place, pushing him ever closer to becoming the world champion. An exhilarating race day was the perfect end to our weekend in Barcelona, with memories to reminisce on as we sailed home to Port Adriano the following day. This annual cruise to Barcelona to enjoy the Formula 1 GP is one we have been doing since 2015 - it remains a strong favourite within our diary alongside our other customer events in Mallorca.

ON BOARD MALLORCA EVENTS

CALA D’OR COCKTAIL RECEPTION 3rd August At the Yacht Club Cala d’Or we hosted our annual get together in the warm evening sun, overlooking the beautiful sparkling marina. We welcomed our boat owners and their guests for an exclusive cocktail reception with members of our Princess team, including our new Sales Manager, Rob Seabourne. This event is a special one in our diary as it offers us the opportunity to spend time with our owners over live music, drinks and canapés in this picturesque venue.

ILLETAS DAY CRUISE 23rd August Journeying to Illetas with not only Princess owners, but also Chris-Craft owners and their guests made this event a very special one indeed. We partnered with our sister company, Chris-Craft Balearics, to discover the beautiful bay of Illetas and to introduce customers to each other, to share their stories and offer advice on their boating jaunts. We enjoyed a light lunch overlooking the bay, with a fantastic water toys show afterwards.

CAMP DE MAR DAY CRUISE 10th August Anchoring in the pristine bay of Camp de Mar, there is certainly a feeling of exclusivity. This secluded bay enjoys crystal-clear Mediterranean waters and warm Spanish sun. Together with Princess owners and their guests, we anchored together and enjoyed an informal lunch at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the bay. This relaxed event gave our owners the opportunity to take their time to explore the area, and to gain inspiration for their next cruise.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. And nowhere is this more true than in the fast-paced world of online marketing, where the decision to stay and browse or click away is typically made in seconds - sometimes a fraction of a second. This is why the photography that supports online marketing for Princess Motor Yacht Sales is crucial, and why the company employed Rob Clark as their in-house photographer. Over the last few months, Rob has been travelling across Europe capturing exciting events including the Formula 1 GP in Barcelona, as well as photographing new and used Princess yachts for over five years, which is why he knows better than anyone else the importance of capturing the finest detail.

“I’ll often spend up to two hours preparing a boat before I even pick up the camera” “I’ll often spend up to two hours preparing a boat before I even pick up the camera. Covers have to be off, lights have to be on throughout, cockpit, flybridge and foredeck cushions have to be taken out of storage and positioned, sunroofs open, owner’s gear must be tidied away, every scatter cushion has to be just so. We often purchase props for the photoshoots; expensive lifestyle magazines, vases, flowers, even the smaller touches like perfume bottles and sunglasses.” It helps that Rob is a Yachtmaster Ocean Level qualified, so he knows his way around and is passionate about the boats he’s photographing. External shots are frequently taken at speed on the water with a high-end drone to create brochure quality imagery. On the interiors, Rob uses specialist lenses that highlight spacious cabins without resorting to false looking ‘fisheye’ effects. Details run from photoshopping images of the boat’s exterior onto the TV in the main saloon, to ensuring the correct Princess branding is used through discrete placement of brochures and other materials. Frequently, HDR (High Dynamic Range) imagery is created where three identical shots are taken with different exposure

levels and then merged so that lighting isn’t lost in the shadows, yet bright vistas through cabin windows are perfectly balanced. Often, Rob will return in the evening to capture external day areas beautifully lit by onboard lighting. “This boat really brings us together”

“Our boat really gives our family a focal point. When we’re at home, people are often doing their own thing but the boat really brings us together, it’s something we do as a team. A perfect example is that, like most parents, we’re very careful to monitor and limit phone and iPad screen time. But on the boat, screens barely even get looked at beyond maybe watching a little TV of an evening. Last weekend my eldest was fishing off the back of the boat until bedtime”.

’m talking to Kathleen McDougall who owns a Princess F49 called ‘Cara Bella’ with husband Andrew. The London based couple and their two boys, Alex aged 9 and William who is 11, spend most weekends aboard all year round. “We’re fair weather boaters, we’re not interested in heavy weather or endurance boating, I value my life and my sanity too much! But we’ll be on board in December or January if the weather is suitable. For the first couple of years we’d rarely stay on board but once we moved to flybridge boats it’s rare not to stay over. The ability to slide the doors shut and be inside but on the main deck rather than down among the sleeping accommodation was transformational for us”. Currently on their third Princess yacht, their first boat was a Princess V42. They moved up to a Princess F43 flybridge cruiser “we find it way more suitable for all year British boating” before moving up again to their current boat, a Princess F49, which offers even more space aboard. “We stumbled across Princess by accident” Kathleen tells me. “We were looking at a Broom boat on the Norfolk Broads. It was perfectly nice, just not our style. The salesman suggested we look at the boat alongside which was a Princess and we were instantly hooked.

My husband works right around the corner from the Princess Motor Yacht Sales office in London. They introduced us to Mark da Costa at the Swanwick Princess office (where we planned to keep the boat) and the rest is history. Mark is on my Christmas card list now” laughs Kathleen. “All the Princess guys have been brilliant. Each boat we’ve owned has been secondhand, but the aftersales care has been genuinely exceptional. Any issue we have had has been dealt with quickly and efficiently. We honestly would not buy any other make of boat now. Each new

larger boat feels very intimidating to begin with but after two months they seem to shrink and become normal. And modern technology has really helped our progression, our current boat has IPS drives and a joystick that makes docking so easy that it feels like cheating!” The family use the boat mainly in the Solent, with Cowes, the Beaulieu River, Yarmouth and Lymington among their many favourite haunts and destinations. But they have ventured

further afield. “Last year we joined an organised Princess cruise to France. I grew up boating on a lake so the Solent seemed slightly scary to me to begin with. The idea of actually crossing the channel was very daunting. But joining an organised group took all the stress out of it. We were very lucky with the weather across the five-day trip and had the most fantastic experience, one of the best we’ve had afloat. But most of all, it gave us a huge sense of accomplishment and a huge amount of confidence in what the boat is actually capable of. We became aware that it can handle far more than we’d realised, and certainly far more than we would ever choose to experience”. Since then the family have taken the boat down the coast to Torquay on a seven-day trip and have committed to another Princess cruise in company, this year to the Channel Islands.

But the subject soon returns to what the boat means to them as a family. “Now the boys are a little older, they’re getting actively involved in the running of the boat. The youngest is in charge of safety equipment and the oldest helps with the lines when docking the boat. They’ve not progressed to driving it yet but it’s only a matter of time. Both are proficient at handling the tender. When we were considering a boat, my husband said to me, ‘we’ve only got the boys as children for maybe 10 years, after that they’ll likely be doing their own thing rather than wanting to do things with us’. It was quite a shocking thought, but he’s right. Who knows, when they’re seventeen they might barely be speaking to us. But we’ll all have an ocean worth of family boating memories”.

While there are so many foodie regions to choose from as you sail around Europe, Southern Spain is a gastronomeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s heaven. From Huelva to Marbella via Cadiz and Puerto Banus, hereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s how to eat like a local along the coast of Andalucia, with Spanish wines to create the ideal pairings...

EXPLORING SOUTHERN SPAIN

Jamon Ibérico (Iberian ham) If you’re into charcuterie, Andalucia has some of the tastiest in Europe. Jamón Ibérico is produced from the Ibérico pig, reared on natural ‘Dehesa’ pastures along the border with Portugal around Huelva and the Los Pedroches Valley. It’s this special terroir that gives the meat its unique flavour. Serve this in wafer thin slices on a large plate with a chilled glass of fruity, pink ‘rosado’ wine. Seek out: Muga Rioja Rosado (£9.99 at Waitrose)

Lubina a la sal (salt baked sea bass) Moving slowly along the stunning coastline towards Cadiz, stop off around Sanlúcar de Barrameda and enjoy a ‘paseo’ before sundown where everyone takes to the streets for a stroll. This whole region is home to the saline, nutty, uber-dry white wines known as Fino and Manzanilla. These dry sherries are a match made in heaven for this classic dish, where sea bass is baked in a thick crust of salt. For a slightly richer Fino that can stand up to heavier flavours, go for an ‘en rama’. This is a very rare style of Fino drawn straight from the cask, so it’s cloudy with intense flavours of toasted almonds, brioche and lemon peel. Seek out: Tio Pepe Fino En Rama (£16.99 at Majestic)

Rabo de Toro (oxtail stew) As you round the southern tip of the coast around Gibraltar, you may be in the mood for something a bit more hearty. Created in Córd ed wine to match. Tempraniillo (aka Tinto Fino) is the grape to look for. Try one from the famous regions of Rioja or Ribera del Duero or for a more interesting choice, try the lesser known region of Toro (apt name, no?) where Bodegas Pintia is creating iconic wines rivalling those of its famous Ribera del Duero cousin, Vega Sicilia. Seek out: Bodegas Pintia red 2014 (£58 at bbr.com)

Espetos de Sardinas (smoky, charcoal sardines) Sometimes, simplicity is what you fancy and there’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly barbecued sardines on the beaches of Puerto Banus and Marbella. These small, meaty fish with smoky, crispy skins are a dream with the citrussy, peachy white wines made from the Albariño grape; Galicia’s finest. Seek out: Mar de Frades Albariño (£18.95 at Great Western Wine)

Josh Cleaver, YachtQuarters Sales Manager What is your boating background? I’ve been in and around the water from an early age. I’ve surfed around UK and Europe, been an RNLI life guard in West Wales where I grew up, and my father races hovercrafts! How did your career in the marine industry begin? I’d been selling software, making 400 cold calls a month when I decided on a complete change. I booked a one-way ticket to Australia and got a job with a friend who was selling Absolute yachts. I spent a month boat cleaning before deciding that I could do better at selling. What next? I moved to Australian Superyachts, selling the Majesty range from Gulf Craft. I sold three yachts over 100ft which involved meeting clients in Dubai seeing boats in build. I also spent 6 months with Premier Marine selling Absolute and Chris-Craft boats, but having met and married my wife, it was time to return to the UK. What’s your most abiding Australian boating memory? One of the first boats I experienced was a Chris-Craft Corsair 34 with twin Mercruiser 350hp engines. We cruised across Sydney Harbour, a classic Australian sunset lighting up Sydney Opera House, it was just incredible. So you’re with Princess Motor Yacht Sales now. What are you focusing on? I’m the UK Sales Manager for Chris-Craft and the UK Sales Manager for our YachtQuarters yacht share program. I’m drawing on my Australian yacht share experience to build something world class in the yacht share market. Sounds exciting, what are your plans? Yacht share is a fantastic concept, but the trick is to get the recipe exactly right, and what excites me about Princess Motor Yacht Sales is that it has all the ingredients needed to do that. So for example, we’re basing the first yachts in Mallorca which is a stunning yachting area, but crucially one in which PMYS has a huge presence. 25 of the 45 staff there are technicians, which enables us to jump on any issue immediately, keeping downtime to an absolute minimum. What makes your yacht share scheme the best? We’re offering a complete package. An owner can pick a week, contact the concierge, chat though his plans and we will work out the entire itinerary, everything from the best anchorages to the most appropriate restaurants for their tastes. All the owner and his group have to do is turn up, we take care of absolutely everything else. Any other unique features? We’re making it more accessible. Any yacht share company is only as good as the business behind it and people need to experience that. So as well as high end multi million pound yachts, we’re introducing smaller and pre-owned models presented in a particularly fantastic condition that will allow owners to enter at a lower level, experience what we have to offer and then move on up if they choose. How are you getting the YachtQuarters message message out there? We’re taking the boats to the buyers. We put the Princess R35 and a Chris-Craft in front of the Boisdale Club in Canary Wharf, London for a week and we’ve had a boat at supercar events. We’re also looking to introduce a shared ownership scheme for Chris-Craft, again with every aspect taken care of, right down to the food and drink you want on board when you turn up. We’re attracting a whole new market - why spend £50,000 on a weekend sportscar to sit in a traffic jam when the same money will grant you access to a sportsboat and the open water?

I’ve been with the company 13 years and my background prior to joining the group was in the marine industry, initially engineering before transitioning into sales. What is your role there? From a brand-new Princess yacht being delivered from the factory, through to the rigorous onboard inspection, to the final handover and ongoing maintenance; the journey of your Princess yacht can take place all under one roof. Our sales team in Plymouth, led by Richard Clarke, our sales manager in the South West, are in a prime location to sell the dream to customers. With a beautiful setting on their doorstep and the very best product for sale, there is arguably no better place to be in the UK than on the South West coastline. Being so close to Princess Yachts Limited has its advantages; there is no other distributor in the world who has access to the full range of Princess yachts never mind being able to moor them outside their front door or see them in build in the factory.

What’s at Turnchapel? We moved to Turnchapel after outgrowing our Sutton Harbour premises and the short answer is ‘everything’. It’s a fantastic site with deep water moorings large enough for any Princess in the range including the 40M - in fact we have one outside the office right now. Under one roof we have sales, service, parts, warranty, retrofit, a boardroom and a large showroom. What’s in the showroom? We have all kinds of equipment to make life onboard easier and better. Everything from jet skis and tenders to Glendinning shore power cable management systems and water makers. That must work well from a sales perspective? It’s brilliant, we have facilities unmatched in the UK. We can discuss a deal in the boardroom and help a customer specify their perfect boat, but we can then take it much further. Our showroom allows clients to see and handle equipment that they might be interested in rather than simply looking at pictures in a brochure, and our retrofit team can discuss bespoke options and customisation beyond even that offered by the factory. Presumably you’re positioned close to the factory, does that help? We’re in the same city and yes it does. With a range as expansive as Princess Yachts, no dealer can stock and show every model. The proximity to the factory means it’s very easy to take customers there to see almost any model at any time. How can customers reach you? By car of course. But our onsite moorings mean that clients can arrive by boat if they wish and we have a helipad adjacent to the office and regularly have clients fly in. Absolutely. We have some of the most spectacular cruising grounds in the world with stunning scenery, deep water and everything from charming rivers and inlets to city marinas. And this facility allows us to really look after them, no boat is more than an hour or two from us. Aftersales is a huge part of what we do, after all, if you look after a customer impeccably, he or she comes back time and again. We do get a lot of repeat business.
