THIRST PROJECT
SUMMER FUNDRAISING GUIDE
WHAT IS The Thirst Project is the world’s largest youth water organization that seeks to educate students around the nation on the global water crisis and empower them to go out and raise funds for global water projects. Also their goal is to raise $50 million for the entire nation of Swaziland by the year
2022.

IMPACT 100 p to helping people receive clean water. Successfully eliminating the water problem in Swaziland can serve as a model for a “complete solution to the global water crisis. The Thirst Project not only gives people access to clean water, but also allows women and children, who usually spend all day fetching water, to get a job or an education.

BAKE SALE/BAKING COMPETITION
This fundraiser is a classic, and can even be modified virtually into a fun competition! If you are able to do so safely, organize a bake sale within your community (i.e. at a local farmer’s market). Your club can sell homemade baked goods in exchange for donations, all while talking to and educating customers on the Thirst Project. If this isn’t possible for your club at this time, take the baking to Zoom! Host a virtual baking competition between club members, and set criteria for members to judge contestants and decide on a winner. To fundraise, you can charge an entry fee, or set an amount for the participants to donate based on their rank in the competition. Get creative and have fun!
CAR WASH
A car wash can be a great summertime fundraising opportunity. Most of the materials are inexpensive, and there are plenty of YouTube tutorials to help you get set up. To make the event a success, you’ll need a group of willing members, some music, and lots of signs to advertise within your community! Make sure to price washes either by donation, or set a price that is not too high for customers. Car washes are a quick and easy way to make money, and you’ll have lots of fun!
VIRTUAL DRAW
This fundraiser is super simple, and can easily be incorporated into any club meeting. All you have to do is gather your club members in a virtual meeting, then write increasing numbers on slips of paper (i.e. 1-25). Draw one of these numbers for each member who wants to participate, and then everyone has to donate the same amount of money as their number. Make sure to emphasize that this money does not have to be donated out of pocket, and that members can ask friends and family to contribute!

SELL CRAFTS If you’re creatively talented, this is the fundraiser for you! This is an activity that you can do on your own, or with your club. You can make anything you want, like paintings, drawings, crocheted items, or jewelry, and then sell them to friends and family in exchange for donations!
SCAVENGER HUNT
If you haven’t planned a club activity over Zoom then you are missing out! In this case, if you want to have some club bonding and fundraising wrapped into one, then an online scavenger hunt is a great option. Charge an entry fee for each member participating, or have everyone pledge to donate a certain amount per item they find. You can share your screen with a list of items each member has to find either around their house or outside, and then bring them back to share over your Zoom call. Some ideas include finding something that makes you happy, something you think no one else has in their home, five green items, a vintage outfit, and so forth!
MOVIE NIGHT Put a fun twist on your summer fundraiser by hosting a movie night! Set up a Google Meets or Zoom meeting where attendees can enjoy a movie from the comfort of their own home, or meet in person while following your area’s social distancing guidelines. Your club can fundraise by selling admission “tickets,” and if you host an in-person event, you can even sell snacks or have a jar set up for donations. To collect admissions for a virtual movie night, you can use platforms like Venmo or PayPal.

TRIVIA NIGHT
Host a fun trivia night within your club, or even between multiple clubs! You can have participants vote on the topics they would like to have, and then set up a board of questions with point values attached to each one (similar to Jeopardy!). Every participant should pay a small playing fee before the game is started, but you can set up extra challenges or encourage donations throughout the game. This event can be easily orchestrated through online platforms to avoid person-to-person contact. However, if you are organizing the event as an in-person activity, remember to follow safety guidelines!
