AGENT REPORTS A Grecian idyll and French foray: Yamus and Salut ! ELLISON POE On a recent whirlwind tour of Greece, Ellison traveled on Silversea (“like a moving hotel!”) along the coast, mingling among the mega yachts and sailboats near Athens and visiting super chic hotels at each stop. Among her favorites, the family owned Canaves Oia Hotel & Suites in Santorini. There she met the very charming, handsome Markos Chaidemenos, the young managing director and son of the owners. “Can’t wait to share this with our clients!” enthuses
Ellison. In glitzy, happening Mykonos (Greece’s answer to Ibiza), Ellison discovered fabulous Bill & Coo which has a hotel in town and a brand new gorgeous property on the beach which opened in May 2016. The “in-town” one boasts a 2-star Michelin restaurant—one of the best on the island. They had a grand time in Spetses at the divine Poseidonion Hotel which overlooks the harbor. It has an old world feel to it, but the rooms are beautifully renovated under the guidance of

A TOP-SECRET TIP FOR PARIS TRAVELERS: “Ladurée macaroons are passé! Instead, head to Carette. We had the most perfect, simple lunch— scrambled eggs with cheese and a green salad—and the most heavenly macaroons in the world!”

the owner’s architect daughter. Their chef was awarded best young chef in Greece. Spetses is a small pedestrian-only island accessed by water taxi from the mainland with horse-drawn carriages as the main mode of transport. It’s authentic and non-touristy, and the perfect spot for Poe Travelers! Last stop, Amanzoe—and talk about finishing strong! This is another spectacular Aman property about 125 miles from Athens near the town of Porto Heli on the east coast of the Peloponnese. Designed by famous architect Ed Tuttle, it’s STUNNING. “The Amanzoe was mindboggling, and, though leaving was sad, the heli-transfer to the Athens airport sure was nice!” says Ellison. If you must leave, at least depart in style . . .
On to France... And speaking of Aman . . . on to France where Ellison swooned over Villa La Coste, a new hotel overlooking the 600-acre estate in the heart of Provence, which includes an organic winery and
an esteemed art and architecture park. “Villa La Coste is like Aman in the Luberon. It’s truly spectacular—out of this world.” In addition to housing a Calder and other iconic works of art, Villa La Coste is home to Louise Bourgeois’ magnificent “Crouching Spider.” Eeek! Ellison and friends also lunched on fresh oysters on a glorious sunny day in Cancale and had a tête-à-tête with nature at beautiful La Réserve Ramatuelle Hotel-Spa & Villas near St Tropez. Nestled among fragrant lavender and pine trees, this well-hidden paradise impressed Ellison at every turn. “We arrived by heli . . . It was very zen and cool . . . it had amazing private pools . . . a living room lobby with a great band playing something zippy on the upright bass and ukulele.” Other highlights included: visiting Hotel Castelbrac in Dinard and touring Mont St. Michel, Bayeux, and the American Cemetery in Normandy with our favorite guide, Nicolas Gandilhon.
From Australia to Austria, the Outback to the Alps ANGELA SIMON
This year Angela went to opposite ends of the earth on two very different yet equally remarkable journeys. Her highlights follow:
AUSTRALIA Angela thoroughly embraced her sense of adventure in Australia—and she discovered that there’s no better place to do it: • Arriving Wolgan Valley by helicopter into a field of kangaroos • Feeding walaroos • Sydney Bridge Climb • Cuddling a koala • Helicopter ride over the Great Barrier Reef to go snorkeling • Helicopter ride to private beach for picnic lunch
AUSTRIA No country waltzes so effortlessly between the urban and the outdoors as Austria. One day you’re cresting alpine summits, the next you’re swanning around imperial Vienna. Angela, along with her sister and niece, experienced a super swell girls’ trip. • Sporting a Tyrolean hat • Sampling a tort at the Hotel Sacher • Every moment at Schloss Elmau (rhymes with El-wow!) • Shopping for dirndls in Salzburg • Dining at the wurstelstand with the black-tie-clad, pre-opera crowd
THE AAC GOES TO GB! Join the Arkansas Arts Center on an exciting and educational trip to England with a special post jaunt to Scotland! “O Canada!” Cyndi sings the praises of our northern neighbor Rocky Mountaineer & The Chilko Experience CYNDI SAYES “This was such a fabulous trip! . . . We started in Vancouver, which was absolutely stunning! The city is alive and GREEN—as in zero carbon, zero waste, and a healthy ecosystem. . . . Besides the city’s remarkable mindfulness, Vancouver is alive and thriving with wonderful people, activities for all ages, and delicious food. . . . I took a leisurely bike ride around Stanley Park and marveled at the gorgeous fall colors and spectacular views.
The Holy Land Pilgrimage with Father Mauricio & Father Robert
“ I kept thinking, ‘Everyday just gets better and better.’”
BETH WALTER
Some highlights:
Nowhere on earth stirs up passion quite the way Israel does. Holy to Jews, Christians, and Muslims, Jerusalem’s Old City is one of the world’s foremost pilgrimage destinations. This fall Beth Walter joined Fr. Mauricio Carrasco and Fr. Robert Cigainero and a group of Catholic parishioners on a memorable journey to the Holy Land. The priests held mass each day at different sites which Beth found particularly moving. Beth, who first traveled to Israel years ago, says, “This trip was really special. The two young priests were just so funny and affable . . . they made the trip. I kept thinking, ‘Everyday just gets better and better.’”
• Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee
Their pilgrimage took them to Tel Aviv, Tiberius, and Jerusalem. With these three strategic stops, they experienced the wide spectrum of glories that Israel offers.
• Mass in Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home, and The Church of the Annunciation • A drive via Cana of Galilee for the Baptism Site on the Jordan River • Tabgha, site of the Miracle of Loaves and Fishes • Mass on Mount of Beatitudes, site of Sermon on the Mount • Mount of Olives for panoramic view of Old and New Jerusalem • Garden of Gethsemane, a walk along the Via Dolorosa, to the Church of St. Anne, and Church of Holy Sepulchre • Mount Zion and Room of Last Supper and King David’s traditional tomb • The Church of Nativity, Manger Square, and Bethlehem
A short flight and two-hour drive from Vancouver, and I was in Chilko Experience heaven! This property was built with love— the owners had custom log cabins/houses constructed for their expanding family. Now that their children are grown, they’ve opened the doors to the public so we too can experience the British Columbia most people don’t know exists. The mountains, lakes, meadows, and rivers are pristine. In one day, I saw 40+ grizzly bears from as close as 10 feet away! Mamas with their cubs and big burly male bears all out fishing for salmon. Not to worry—I was in a river boat that could easily out run them! This location is unique for grizzly watching, rather than say Alaska, due to the lack of crowds.
Phil and Anne Huston, the owners of The Chilko Experience, have a love for people and the outdoors. I can’t imagine a better place for a family to spend their summer vacation or a couple to escape to for an adventure-packed week. My next stop was the luxury train Rocky Mountaineer, which FAR exceeded my expectations. RM provides unrivaled service, five-star dining, stunning views, the list goes on and on. The glass domed ceiling allowed for views in every direction. We saw bears, coyote, deer, rams, bald eagles, osprey, and beautiful vistas throughout the journey. One of the best perks was the viewing deck on the lower level. At any point throughout the trip, I could walk downstairs and be outside to fully immerse myself in the spectacular surroundings. And the food was absolutely delicious—the best I’ve ever had! I thoroughly enjoyed every part of my Canadian travels; Vancouver to Banff was totally breathtaking! I can’t thank the Hustons at The Chilko Experience and Rocky Mountaineer enough for such an adventurous, beautiful, relaxing, and fantastic trip.”

The Clinton Foundation goes to D.C.
AND NOW FOR OUR FAVORITE TRAVELING DYNAMIC DUO!
M&M on the move, from Tennessee to Maine
STACY BRIGHT The USA’s capital teems with iconic monuments, vast museums and the corridors of power; and a lot of history is concentrated within its relatively small confines. On a recent trip with The Clinton Foundation, Stacy Bright got to explore D.C.s many treasures. They packed a lot into their time there, including: •T ouring the monuments at night (“Magical and moving!”) • The 911 Memorial at the Pentagon • Kennedy’s grave and Tomb of Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery • American History Museum • The National Cathedral
MARGARET KEMP & MILDRED COOPER
• The National Portrait Gallery • White House tour • Botanical Gardens • The National Archives • The recently opened National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC)
A wine themed mother/daughter cruise on AMA TERESA GRACE Veteran cruiser Teresa Grace has rarely met a cruise she didn’t like, but this one was particularly special because she got to share it with daughter Meagan. They started in Zurich, where they stayed two nights, and then took the train to Basel to board the lovely AMAPrima. Teresa says, “I absolutely loved Zurich and Amsterdam. Our accommodations on AMA were fantastic. Our favorite stops were Strasbourg and Cologne. We loved seeing all the castles on the Rhine, and actually went into the Heidelberg Castle.”
| PICTURED HERE | The Clinton Library Group at the Einstein statue.
Margaret and Mildred, along with two of Mildred’s daughters, Haven and Mary Catherine, recently retreated to famed southern inn Blackberry Farm, a bucolic culinary playground rambling over 4,200 acres in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. There they greeted each morning with farm-fresh eggs and buttermilk biscuits with preserves made by the resident “jam lady” with berries grown on site. They also met a nurseryrhyme-worthy cast of characters—the butcher, the baker, the beekeeper, the forger (and forager), the gardener, the cheese maker—as they shared their crafts. They loved exploring the grounds, relaxing in rocking chairs on the front lawn, and dining in the elegant Amish barn. Then it was back to their lovely limestone cottage to cozy up by the fire.
Says Margaret, “It’s a great place to visit all year round. So relaxing, but you can also be as active as you want. Really it’s all about food and wine, fantastic facials and other spa treatments, and outdoor activities.” “It’s perfect for two nights or more. The food was absolutely delicious . . . a true countryside farm-to-table experience,” adds Mildred.
FROM THE ROLLING FOOTHILLS OF THE SMOKIES TO THE RUGGED BEAUTY OF COASTAL MAINE . . .
Envision the classic, New England coastal retreat, and it may well look like the Inn at Sunrise Point. Nestled on five acres overlooking Penobscot Bay, the inn is located just a stone’s throw from charming Camden and Mt. Battie. “Maine is heaven on earth,” says Margaret. “I could go every summer. The
Inn at Sunrise Point is so peaceful, right on water. You can hike in the national park, eat lobster rolls to your heart’s content, and visit Camden, an artists’ colony.”
Mildred and Margaret also just returned from a fabulous trip to Paris where they rubbed elbows with Picasso’s grandson and Alain DuCasse! Details forthcoming.

CLIENT Q&A MY THREE SONS . . .
KERRY KROUSE MCCOY AND HER BOYS EMBARK ON A CUBAN CAPER Last summer Kerry McCoy, founder and owner of Arkansas Flag and Banner—along with sons Grady, Matthew, and John (“Jack”)— immersed themselves in Cuban culture during a trip that took them from Havana to Varadero. A snapshot of their journey follows: The McCoys spent the first couple of days exploring colorful Havana, where they took a private tour via vintage car (their preferred mode of transport). They also enjoyed a guided walk through historic “La Habana Vieja” and did some sightseeing in modern day Havana. “Our tour guide said she left the profession of teaching because tourism is booming and more profitable. She said visiting tourists have grown from 1 million to 3 million in just one year . . . ,” says Kerry. They then traveled to the Viñales Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a landscape dotted with tobacco fields and surrounded by rugged mountains (mogotes). This area
produces the finest Cuban cigars; asked if she sampled one, Kerry deadpans, “Hell yeah, I did.” (Though she’s been known to smoke a Black & Mild from the 7-11, she readily admits that the Cubans ones are better.) Kerry and her boys were particularly taken with the backcountry and small farm towns. McCoy recalls, “It was so lush and tropical . . . there was a lot of overgrowth and no noise pollution.” While there they chatted with locals and soaked in the peaceful daily life of rural Cuba. On a hike in the countryside, they came upon an oasis (waterfall, swimming hole, and bar included!) where they enjoyed cocktails and mingled with fellow travelers. “It was really fun . . . an international, young crowd,” says Kerry. They also explored a bandit’s cave, though the bandit was no longer in residence. The McCoys then traveled to Trinidad and Valley de los Ingenios before ending their trip on the beautiful beach in Varadero.
POE FACT
Cuba is often called El Caiman or El Cocodrilo (Spanish for alligator), which is what the island looks like from an aerial view.

CLIENT Q&A
A TRAVELING TRIBE Each year the Wade family (Stephanie and John with kids Delia, 20, Cogan, 19, and Dixon, 13) travels with grandparents Bill and Julie Haught to some far-flung locale. They love vacationing multigenerational-style and value the time together even more as the kids get older and make their own ways in the world. Summer 2016 took them to Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. Here we share some sketches, nay impressions, from Stephanie:
On to Portugal next, first stop Lisbon for three nights. “A great place with some sections reminding me of San Francisco with trolley cars and VERY hilly roads and lanes. All the history with the explorers—Columbus, Vasca da Gama etc.—and an amazing monument showing the spot where they departed on their travels. It was fab! Had the ultimate custard tart/ pastry called pastel de nata at the famous bakery, Pastéis de Belém. That is a must too!”
First stop Marrakech for four dizzying days: “We stayed at La Mamounia which was incredible. I would say this was by far our favorite hotel on the trip. It is a lush walled compound with beautiful gardens. The market is cool with winding lanes that we would have gotten lost in if we had not had our guide. Loved seeing Yves Saint Laurent’s home and gardens, too, Majorelle Garden.”
Porto for two nights: “A very charming place and would highly recommend that you don’t skip it if going to Portugal. Good place just to wander. You must see the bookstore Livraria Lello. It is a magical little place with beautiful woodwork and staircase. JK Rowling lived in Porto for years, and this bookstore was one of her inspirations for Harry Potter.”
They then flew to Spain and stayed in Granada for two nights: “The Alhambra and Generalife Gardens were the highlights. Then we were on to Seville for two nights where we stayed in the Santa Cruz neighborhood which I highly recommend! So many great tapas spots. Bar Estrella is a must! There are wonderful sights here, of course, with the Cathedral and Giralda Tower and the tomb of Christopher Columbus.”
Madrid for two nights: “A great sightseeing city, but I would say the museums rule; the Prado and Thyssen are incredible. Also fun to roam the streets—the La Latino Barrio for cafes, etc. and the Plaza Mayor.” Last stop, Barcelona for four nights: “All the Gaudi sights were interesting. We did day trips to Montserrat (incredible monastery in the mountains) and Salvador Dali’s museum and theatre in Figueroa—so surreal (a little Dali humor)!”

Pedal your way through an immersive vacation in over 50 destinations—from the rolling hills of Tuscany to the Andean foothills of Argentina’s wine country. DuViner’s know that biking is the best way to experience the local culture; whether that is riding through ancient villages in Peru, eating at Michelinstarred and family-run restaurants in Italy, drinking in the worldrenowned wine regions of France, or sleeping in hand-picked accommodations—from a private yacht adrift in the Aegean to a boutique hotel in Sonoma.
As you explore the isles of the South Pacific aboard Oceania, put away your watch, breathe in the fresh sea air, and surrender to island time – this magical place has a mindset all its own. Or for a cultural experience you’ll never forget, head to Papua New Guinea and Tonga.
