Boatylicious Benetti, the Italian custom motoryacht builder, has been producing maritime marvels since 1873, so it takes something a little special to stand out from its long line of water-borne wonders. Its first 108-foot Tradition Supreme superyacht, though, is suitably eyebrow raising. One of only three ever destined for production, this tri-deck triumph is truly an aquatic joy. Aptly named the My Paradis, it exterior is designed by Stefano Righini, the renowned naval architect, while the entire vessel will retrofitted

to

meet

the

personal

predilections

of

even

the

pickiest of purchasers. Its elegant forward dining area (suitable for 10 VIP guests) is made more enticing by the inclusion of a Jacuzzi, a Turkish bath and a sundeck. Intriguingly, the crew galley has been moved to the main deck in order to open up the lower deck for a large refrigerated space. Cool, in every sense. Vodcat Lovers Only Although quintessentially a Russian tipple, with some 600 years expertise under their belts, it’s those folks from Poland you should keep an eye on when it comes to matters vodkaesque. A certain Stephen Sparrow clearly did. Originally an East African safari guide, Sparrow’s idea for Snow Leopard Vodka came to him during a trip to Mongolia, when he realised the eponymous beast was on the verge of extinction. Lacking the wherewithal to simply rescue them all Noah-­style,

he

instead

launched

the

finest

vodka

brand imaginable, setting aside at least 15 percent of all the financial proceeds for the preservation of this worryingly-scarce wildcat. Apparently popular with royalty, Snow Leopard is said to be an exceptional “ultra-premium” vodka (presumably two steps beyond your regular “superpremium” vodka). To this end, it is six-times distilled, twice through charcoal and all under the eye of master distiller, Joanna Dawidowicz. The taste – smooth, creamy,

slightly

floral,

with

flecks

of

nuts

and

peppery

or anyone looking at buying a superyacht, particularly their first one, a name stands out: Benetti. This Italian shipyard has been building boats since the 1870s, and was one of the first yards in the Mediterranean to begin building large pleasure boats for the rich and famous in the 1950s and ’60s. Its reputation for style and elegance peaked in the late 1970s, when the yard built and launched the 83-metre Nabila for Saudi tycoon Adnan Khashoggi. Nabila was the largest yacht in the world at the time and Khashoggi was rumoured to be the world’s richest man, with wealth estimated at over US$40 billion, and a spending habit of nearly US$275,000 per day.

The Nabila should have rocketed Benetti into eternal fame. But with the financial stresses of completing the yacht, Benetti fell on hard times, and was ultimately purchased by another Italian yacht company, Azimut. Since then, Benetti has climbed its way back into the top ranks of superyacht builders worldwide. In the 2000s, Benetti was ranked among the top builders in terms of numbers of yachts built. This big turnaround was achieved in large part thanks to Benetti’s current CEO, Vincenzo Poerio, who joined the company as general manager in 1993 and has been with the yard ever since, finding ways to boost capacity and style while keeping costs in line.

As with other superyacht builders, the global financial crisis caused a huge downturn in orders. Most began looking to emerging economies, as traditionally sound markets such as Europe and America almost dried up. The long push into Asia has yielded some benefits for Benetti, as orders for new superyachts have begun to trickle in. In the spring of 2014, Hong Kong-based businessman Alan Chuang took delivery of his Benetti superyacht, the 56-metre Lady Candy. Poerio expects that Chuang will be using his yacht to tour the remote islands of the Philippines and Southeast Asia. The clients in Hong Kong that Poerio meets seem to be increasingly interested in taking superyachts further out to sea. “Hong Kong people are very hard workers, but they are learning about the pleasures of the sea, and about places like the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia,” Poerio says, though he also notes that Hong Kong is lacking the marina facilities that would let the industry grow. However, bigger yachts can “move all over the world”, Poerio adds. “I can see a future where everybody can move the yacht to a different place every two or three years.” Though yacht builders once looked expectantly at China, it is Hong Kong, with its huge support for superyachts, that has remained a constant. Benetti

is currently building two more superyachts for Asian clients – a 40-metre yacht for a Hong Kong customer, and a 55-metre yacht for a mainland client. Most yacht builders are also looking at so-called gigayachts, and Benetti is no exception. It is due to complete a 90-metre superyacht by 2015 – the largest attempted by the yard since Nabila. “We are excited at Benetti, but we are putting a lot more attention in the building, (because of ) bigger risks. We are entering the gigayacht market and we will build more and more. It is a market requirement,” Poerio says. Most superyacht projects are years in the making, and the more complex and customised they are, the longer it can take. For an owner, buying a superyacht means visits to the yard to observe progress and to discuss possibilities with the builder. According to Benetti, Chuang had a big role in the design of the yacht, particularly the interior and the layout. Chuang, who has owned superyachts before, is an avid diver, and to cater for this, a beach club was included at the stern of Lady Candy. Chuang will also enjoy plenty of personal time aboard his yacht, with a large cabin at the rear of the upper deck. From here, he can enjoy a private terrace that looks over the sea, as well as a private office. Surely from here, he will feel like a king. For Benetti’s Poerio, it is another superyacht surge into Asia.

BENETTI VELOCE 140 PREMIÈRE MONDIALE À FORT LAUDERDALE

Les visiteurs américains du Fort Lauderdale Boat show auront le privilège de visiter le nouveau “joyau” du constructeur Benetti, le Veloce 140. Ce dernier a fait l’objet d’une étude approfondie au niveau de la carène, la DP2, réalisée par le studio Pierluigi Ausonio en collaboration avec le centre recherche et développement de Benetti. La courbe de son rendement devrait être relativement plate, aussi positive à 12 nœuds qu’à plus de 20 nœuds. Ce modèle se destine à un armateur américain qui n’en est pas à son premier Benetti. Le design extérieur est du à Stefano Righini qui a favorisé les surfaces vitrées sur le pont principal et le pont supérieur. Les flancs de coque sont également bien fournies en hublots ronds et carrés. Les espaces intérieurs ont été supervisés par le cabinet Redman Whiteley Dixon avec les consignes du propriétaire et la décoration par Joao Armentano. Les plafonds sont en Alcantara qui s’harmonise avec la laque argentée ou blanche des cloisons. Les meubles sont de Minotti et les lampes de Flos. La coque réunit cinq cabines : une master, deux VIP et deux guests. Le beach club comprend un bar. Le garage a été conçu pour deux tenders.

UN FRÉMISSEMENT

CANNES YACHTING FESTIVAL 2014 Forfanterie de la part des professionnels que d’afficher un optimisme presque inattendu et même de faire part de contrats signés ? Pas du tout, Cannes a montré des signes avant-coureurs laissant envisager ce que l’on ose plus prononcer de nos jours : une reprise. Qui plus est, les nouveautés étaient bel et bien présentes à ce rendez-vous international. Texte Alain Brousse, Dominique Gabiraut et Franck Van Espen Photos D.R

L’aura de la 37ème édition du désormais “Cannes Yachting Festival” n’est donc pas un leurre. Ce salon, dont la réputation est largement acquise, nous a livré cette année une première bonne nouvelle, celle que l’intérêt porté par les plaisanciers à cet événement existe toujours et se renforce. La deuxième est que les chantiers dans leur majorité choisissent cette période pour dévoiler leurs nouveautés. Enfin, notre sondage auprès des professionnels conclut à des ventes en bonne et due forme concrétisées au pied du Palais des Festivals. D’où la tentation de parler d’une brise qui pourrait s’appeler reprise. Les observateurs les

plus échaudés déclarent que cette embellie ne peut être que passagère. Certes, mais elle pourrait aussi se révéler durable, après tout. Un exemple : alors que nous remettions les deux trophées (celui des Meilleurs Aménagements et celui du Yacht le plus Abouti) à la Prestige 750, il y avait un absent sur la scène, à savoir Jean-Claude Chapeleau, PDG de la marque qui pendant ce temps clôturait un troisième dossier de vente de ce modèle à 22 heures. Il fut regretté et bien sûr excusé. Les nouveautés étaient donc légion, du plus petit habitable, le Rodman Muse 44’ au yacht de 46 mètres, le Baglietto, en passant par le Benetti

Supreme 108’, la Custom Line Navetta 28 mètres ou encore le Nauta Air 86. Tous les genres sont représentés avec parfois à leur bord les directeurs de projet, les directeurs techniques et les designers. Une évidence : le critère des aménagements intérieurs devient primordial, preuve s’il en est que les acheteurs recherchent par-dessus tout le confort. En supplément des essais des nouveautés parues dans ce même numéro (Wider 32’, Prestige 420, Azimut 77S, Galeon 660 Fly, Pershing 70’ et Oceanic 90’), voici ce que la 37ème édition du Cannes Yachting Festival nous a donné l’occasion de découvrir pour vous.

Comme sur les précédentes versions, le design extérieur est signé Stefano Righini. Ce dernier joue avec brio sur les différents niveaux et demi-niveaux. Le bateau est un trois-ponts agrémenté d’un sundeck. À bord de My Paradis, le choix personnalisé de l’aménagement du pont principal est très intéressant : dans la surface qui regroupe habituellement le salon et la salle à manger intérieure se subsiste un unique open space regroupant un salon, un coin détente avec de confortables fauteuils et un bar très spacieux. Ce grand volume est baigné de lumière naturelle grâce aux baies vitrées pleine hauteur. Les architectes ont de plus abaissé la hauteur du pavois extérieur au niveau de ces baies vitrées, éliminant ainsi tout obstacle visuel entre l’environnement intérieur et la mer. De même, le pavois a été découpé partiellement au niveau des vitres pleine hauteur de la cabine de l’armateur, sublimant ainsi la lumière naturelle qui y pénètre spontanément. À la demande de l’armateur, la dînette dédiée à l’équipage a été placée sur le pont principal et non dans le pont in-

férieur où une ample chambre frigorifique a pris sa place. Le yacht peut accueillir à son bord jusqu’à douze invités disposant de quatre cabines VIP doubles sur le pont inférieur, dont certaines sont équipées de lits pullman. La suite de l’armateur, située à l’avant du pont principal, offre une convivialité et un agrément hors pair avec des vues sur l’extérieur saisissantes. Les revêtements spécifiques des salles d’eau avec leurs douches tapissées de mosaïque leurs donnent un côté théâtral. Continuant notre visite, nous accédons au pont supérieur en empruntant un escalier extérieur ou en passant par la timonerie qui est située à demi-niveau. Sur le deck arrière de ce pont, un grand canapé en L, tourné vers la poupe invite à la contemplation. Nous y trouvons une grande salle à manger extérieure avant de pénétrer dans le petit salon qui accueille également deux jeux de tables qui peuvent se transformer en une grande salle à manger intérieure. Ce pont abrite un bain turc spectaculaire où il est possible de se délasser allongé tout en admirant le ciel grâce au puits de lumière. Grimpons

Cannes Yachting Festival à nouveau pour parvenir au sundeck qui bénéficie également de deux accès possibles. Protégé par le hardtop en carbone, ce pont est entièrement dévolu à la relaxation. Sur l’arrière, les invités pourront parfaire leur bronzage en se prélassant sur de grands transats tournés vers la mer avant de se rafraîchir dans le grand jacuzzi central. Il sera temps ensuite de prendre place autour de la table capable d’accueillir une dizaine de convives à moins qu’ils ne préfèrent profiter de la navigation en rejoignant le demi-niveau inférieur où se trouvent une timonerie extérieure et une très belle banquette qui permet de suivre la bonne marche du bateau. Les ingénieurs ont particulièrement travaillé sur le concept de l’éclairage en utilisant la technologie LED afin de recréer des effets très spectaculaires. Suivant la tendance émergente du marché, le chantier a équipé ce Benetti d’un nouveau système de propulsion hybride qui permettra de naviguer avec deux moteurs électriques de 35 kW. Les moteurs électriques sont alimentés directement par des groupes électro-

gènes employés comme unique source propulsive et d’alimentation des instruments de bord et autorisent une vitesse de 6 nœuds. Une telle configuration permet de naviguer en réduisant au minimum les bruits et les vibrations, maximisant ainsi le confort. Toujours dans le but d’optimiser le confort à bord et de réduire les consommations d’énergie, le chantier a décidé d’adopter des stabilisateurs CMC Marine aussi bien sur My Paradis que sur tous les modèles de la Class Range. Les ailerons de ces stabilisateurs, par rapport aux installations traditionnelles, offrent un niveau sonore inférieur, une maintenance plus simple et de meilleurs résultats. La motorisation de base est assurée par deux moteurs MAN de 1 000 ch qui autorisent une vitesse de croisière de 12,5 nœuds et une vitesse maximale de 15 nœuds. My Paradis est un concentré du savoir-faire indéniable de Benetti qui a réussi à pourvoir ce nouveau modèle de tous les équipements technologiques les plus avancés. Le Benetti Tradition Suprême 108’ est un yacht totalement en adéquation avec son temps.

Novi dragulj u kruni serije Benetti Class Fast Displacement, Veloce 140, spaja tehničke inovacije na trupu i pogonskom sustavu s inovativnim dizajnom i uređenjem. Trup modela su projektirali Pierluigi Ausonio Naval Architecture Studio i odjel za istraživanje i razvoj kuće Azimut/Benetti, a najznačajniji rezultat inovativnog pristupa tog tima jest štedljivost u potrošnji goriva i pri brzini krstarenja (12 čvorova) i na većim brzinama (iznad 20 čvorova). Veloce 140 M/Y Cheers 46 pokreću najsnažniji motori ikad ugrađeni na ijednu jahtu Benettija; dva MTU 12V 4000 M93L od po 2400 KS. Benetti je također objavio prodaju dviju megajahti duljih od 100 metara. Ovaj je uspjeh rezultat jedinstvene strategije Benettija koja omogućava gradnju većeg broja jahta u isto vrijeme, zbog nedavne konsolidacije financija grupe na temelju zajmova i ulaganja internacionalnih ulagača. Grupa Azimut Benetti Group promijenila je i internu strukturu s ciljem jačanja komercijalnih djelatnosti, pa je tako od početka rujna na čelu odjela prodaje Fabio Ermetto. Kao CCO Grupe, gospodin Ermetto će biti odgovoran za razvoj prodajne strategije, pogotovo na tržištima na kojima interes za proizvode Grupe u posljednje vrijeme brzo raste. Ermetto na svoju novu poziciju prelazi s položaja izvršnog direktora Fraser Yachts, na kojem će se odsada nalaziti Roberto Giorgi. Giorgi će biti koordinator ostalih menadžera Fraser Yachts i odlučivat će o strategiji razvoja brenda, razvoju internih talenata i imenovanju idućeg izvršnog direktora.

Superjahta Okto, 66,40 metara dugačka dama građena u pogonima kuće ISA, isporučena je svojim vlasnicima. Jahta, čiju je unutrašnjost dizajnirao pokojni Alberto Pinto, a vanjske linije Andrea Vallicelli, smješta 12 gostiju i 17 članova posade. Ima crni metalik trup i srebrno metalik nadgrađe, a pokreću ju dva motora Caterpillar 3512 C (1765 kW). Podjednako je ugodna i pri brzini krstarenja od 16,5 čvorova i pri najvećoj brzini od 18,5 čvorova. CEO kuće ISA Yachts Luciano Bregola kaže: ‘Ovaj dragulj je rezultat savršene suradnje među uigranim stručnjacima koje smo okupili za dizajn, projektiranje, izgradnju i isporuku. Un attuatore compatto

I nuovi attuatori SPS55 per Vector Fin, importati in Italia da Saim, sono molto compatti e silenziosi. Progettati per spazi d’installazione di dimensioni ridotte sono adatti alle moderne imbarcazioni sotto i 20 metri di lunghezza, sulle quali gli ingombri non sono un dettaglio irrilevante. Gli attuatori della serie SPS55 sono stati ideati per imbarcazioni condotte dagli armatori stessi, con una particolare attenzione all’affidabilità e alla funzionalità, oltre alla silenziosità di funzionamento dal momento che sono per lo più installati sotto le cabine.

Lo Zar 49SL della linea SPORT LUXURY è il capostipite di una nuova famiglia di battelli pneumatici. E’ lungo 4 metri e 90 centimetri ed è dotato di molti accessori di serie tra cui due plancette di poppa. La consolle di guida è biposto, con timoneria regolabile, imbottiture di prua di serie e cuscineria sportiva. Anche questo nuovo Zar nasce dal lavoro del team di progettazione composto da Carlos Vidal, Francesco Ambrosini, Piero e Luca Formenti.

Già conosciuti come Esaom Cesa sono un cantiere navale con una superficie di 200 mila metri quadrati di cui 80 mila di piazzali attrezzati, 9mila metri quadrati di capannoni con altezze fino a 27 metri per il rimessaggio, 2500 metri quadrati di officina, 3 travel lift, di cui uno di 260 tonnellate, autogru e carrello idraulico. Maestranze specializzate e un'esperienza maturata in decenni di lavoro consentono di offrire servizi di manutenzione e refitting su imbarcazioni fino a 40 metri di lunghezza che possono essere ospitate al coperto. La struttura è integrata a una moderna marina turistica con 300 posti barca fino a 40 metri. I Cantieri Navali Portoferraio sono un sistema moderno che può offrire una risposta affidabile ad ogni esigenza dello yachting.

nautico ed è stato responsabile del lancio e della gestione delle divisioni Leisure e Ship Management, Giorgi sarà responsabile dell'esecuzione del piano strategico 2015-2016 di Fraser Yachts.

FRANCESCO ANSALONE AZIMUT-BENETTI By Manuela Schinaia Azimut-Benetti, the world’s number one builder of superyachts, famous for its technological innovation, and the company that is synonymous with Italian Style, has selected Monaco for the worldwide premiere of Benetti Supreme 108’ and Azimut Grande 95 RPH models. The two day event was held on June 28-29 (or is it 27-28) at the new Yacht Club of Monaco and included a cocktail, sea tour and a gala dinner complete with fireworks. We had the pleasure to meet Francesco Ansalone, Marketing Director of Azimut-Benetti group.

F.1.M. : How would you describe Azimut-Benetti in 3 lines of text? F.A. : 45 years of history. A unique owner, the Vitelli Family, owning 95% of the shares. The biggest privately owned motor yachts group in the world, with about 600 million euros per year in revenues. We’re Italian, with 5 production sites in Italy. One production site is in Brazil, however, due to the extremely high taxes on imported luxury items in that country. F.1.M. : You anticipated our next question: Azimut-Benetti group is an example of a company that has handled the economic crisis better than others. You had to adapt in response to the changes in the market, and today you are a truly succesful company, when all of Europe seems to be talking only about austerity. Yachting seems to be a sector of the economy that leads the way out of this crisis. F.A. : This question gives me the opportunity to highlight three aspects of the yachting industry that, in my

opinion, are not given enough consideration: First, yachting is honest and transparent. Every detail of the production is traced: the origin of every material, the working conditions, etc. As a group, we are bound by European rules and try to improve, whenever possible, the level of transparency. Second, this sector of industry “produces” beauty. We use precious marbles, leather, woods; we have something that the whole world admires: Italian design ! Third, yachting depends on manual skill. If you look at the boats we have displayed here on the deck, you see that they are mainly built with fiberglass. They are not made of diamonds or precious metals. So what makes these boats so valuable? Craftsmanship. We transform a plain material such as fiberglass, a simple material such as wood, into something of extreme beauty and refinement. In my opinion, a boat is a product that embraces all social classes. It is appreciation for creativity and manual work.

F.1.M. : You are launching your new models here at the new Yacht Club of Monaco. In fact, Azimut-Benetti is the first company to organize an event in this beautiful venue, which was officially inaugurated on June 20th. F.A. : First of all, let me say how proud we are to be the first to host an event at the new Yacht Club of Monaco. I think the Principality is sending a very strong message to the entire world about their premier position as the capital in the world of Yachting. This fantastic Yacht Club is the exclamation point of this sentence. Yachting industry today is the engine for creation of jobs. Let’s consider our event alone. So many people are involved on every level: cleaning, maintenance, catering, services to the client... Yachting creates welfare: for this Yacht Club, for our clients who enjoyed this two-day event, for this country and for every single family of every single worker. This is an important public message: the boating industry is doing its part in the rebirth of the economy. Moreover, it gives satisfaction to everyone involved, from the waiter who served us drinks on the beautiful terrace, designed by Norman Foster, to our client who just arrived from Thailand to enjoy this event.


84 F.1.M. : Let’s come back to your activity. Which segment of yachts do you find most stimulating today? F.A. : Rather than segment, I would mention geographic area. North America, followed by the Middle and Far East. If you want an answer about what kind of yachts are the most successful, it is what we call Gigayachts, boats of more than 70 m long, for which we have seen a very strong demand. However, what creates demand is the quality of the product. Last year, in Portofino we luanched the Azimut 80, a 25 m boat. We have already sold 10 of them, at an average price of around 3.6 million euros. It is a good result, indeed.

Since 1969, the focus of Azimut-Benetti group has been on its core business: the design and construction of yachts and luxury megayachts. The group's success comes from its passion for the product and the care extended to the yacht owners, as well as their incessant desire to experiment with new technologies while optimizing comfort, performance and the level of beauty. На основной палубе на борту Z в мастер; каюте и коридоре свет льется через окна во всю высоту. Также полукруглые прозрачные двери позволяют создавать лаунж, объединяя салон с кокпитом. На бридждек расположены две VIP; каюты с открывающимися балконами. Талантливая команда Andrew Winch Designs и Amels создавала индивидуальные пространства на борту Z, черпая вдохновение у великих масте; ров экспрессионизма и символизма. Эти замеча; тельные детали отделки отражают непосред; ственное участие владельца в процессе работы над проектом.

Admiral Flying Dragon 44,8 м Активно развивающаяся итальянская верфь из тосканского городка Масса выступила на монак; ской выставке флотом из четырех судов, а также анонсировала запуск новой линейки суперъяхт, флагманом которой станет лодка длиной 145 м. Разработку этого проекта доверили компании Nahimov. Flying Dragon — один из проектов, кото; рый был реализован ею в этом году. Наиболее важ; ная характеристика лодки — это пространство. Гигантский салон, большие окна от пола до потол; ка (2,3 м), раздвижные двери, позволяющие объе; динять крытую и открытую зоны. По желанию клиента салон выполнен в азиатском стиле, много зеркальных поверхностей, темное дерево, полу; драгоценный оникс в отделке санузлов. Предусмо; трены зона для фитнеса и сауна. Каюта владельца снабжена откидным балконом. Клиенты все чаще предпочитают проводить больше времени на открытом воздухе, и на этой лодке для этого пред; усмотрено все, в том числе огромный для 45;метровой яхты сандек.

Oceanic Тsa Тsa 27,4 м Небольшая 90;футовая лодка с интересной кон; цепцией. Яхта изначально задумывалась как вспо; могательное судно. Лишние метры на воде обхо; дятся в баснословную сумму, да и сложно порой подходить близко к берегу в маринах с небольшой глубиной. Когда на 50 м не хочется жертвовать пространством для размещения водных «игру; шек» и больших тендеров, когда необходимо дополнительное место для обслуживающего пер; сонала или личных тренеров, когда хочется про; вести вечеринку недалеко от берега или разме; стить дополнительных гостей — для всех этих целей такая лодка будет как нельзя кстати. У яхты очень большой кокпит, который со стороны не уступает в размерах пространству 50;метровых яхт, она оборудована большим подъемным кра; ном. Предусмотрено три варианта планировки — на представленном в Монте;Карло мастер;каюта располагалась на верхней палубе, имела очень хороший обзор и собственную открытую обеден; ную зону. Такая планировка обеспечивает массу плюсов, среди которых прайваси.

Heesen Elena 46,7 м Azimut Benetti Illusion I 58 м Новейшее творение Benetti, построенное на верфи в Ливорно, было разработано студией Green & Mingarelli для владельца из Европы. Яхта Illusion I имеет четыре палубы и сандек. Яхта предназначена и спроектирована с прице1 лом на чартер, но владелец также будет использо1 вать ее лично. acht builders, designers and brokers will once again convene at the 55th edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on 30 October–3 November. A couple of changes have been made to this year’s show, including the upgraded and renovated Pier 66 Marina, which will play host to some of the larger brokerage yachts. FLIBS is an opportunity for new business and Joe Foggia, CEO at prolific American superyacht builder Christensen, told The Superyacht Report that he believes the show has evolved over the years, that he sees it as “the premier show to the world, where all regions of the globe are represented as buyer and seller” and that the organisers, Show Management,

“continually work to make it easier for all to display and navigate with better efficiency every year.” Foggia commented on the current market, explaining that at Christensen they are seeing improvements: “We are experiencing very good inquiry levels and buyers seem to be willing to wait significant lead-times due to order backlogs. We are talking to people who will now consider late 2017 and early 2018 deliveries,” which is indicative of a recovering market. Mark Masciarotte, director of sales at Westport Yachts, noted that brokerage and new-build sales have rebounded over the last two months – evident in their inventory being reduced to only one available launched boat, a 40m that will be at

HERE TO START with a yacht that stretches almost 140 feet (46 meters)? Well, you could start with two pools/hot tubs, one each on the sundeck and forward on what we would consider another sundeck, which also includes two double sunpads and a settee with room for six people. Or, you could start with the five staterooms, the nicest of which, of course, is reserved for the owners. You could, if you’re a tender person, start with the garage, with room for two tenders. If you’re a “more power” person, you could start with the twin MTU 12V 4000 M93L diesels, which each supply 3,500 hp and are the largest engines ever mounted at the builder’s Viareggio shipyard. Any of those is a good starting point. The semi-custom, almost 28-foot-wide Veloce 140 (MY Cheers) is the flagship of Benetti’s new Class Fast Displacement range (including the Vivace 125), and the designers at Benetti would probably start with the yacht’s new hull, which they call D2P, short for “displacement to planing.” Benetti accomplished its new hull by coupling a displacement hull style with a wave-piercer at the bow. The 140 can cruise comfortably at 10-12 knots in displacement mode and kick it up to 22 knots when called for. Cheers debuted at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, and was built for a longtime Brazilian Benetti customer. The interior, like any semi-custom yacht, is highly influenced by the owner’s tastes and includes light gray and slate-colored wood, while any stainless steel features are done with a satin finish. The main deck’s primary feature is a gym, because that’s what the owner wanted. If you’re more inclined to less physical pursuits, Benetti could probably accommodate a movie room or an Irish pub in that space.
