EDITOR‘S LETTER
A
s we already wrote in our new year’s edition, the year of the monkey in China is considered to be a year of changes and challenges. And it turns out to be exactly a year of change in China. The economic analysists show us figures of the chinese annual growth rates that are the lowest values within the last 25 years. But still, the economy is growing with a speed much higher compared to Europe. It is going through a period of transition. Several of the goals have been described in the 13th 5-year plan that was presented in March of this year. Transforming the economy from a production industry to a consumer industry, doubling the personal income of people compared to 2010, establish the “Made in China” as a high quality standard until 2025, opening the market for international companies, are just a few high target goals. We are watching curiously the direction that China will take, as everyone expects huge impacts also on the German economy. Chinese economy certainly becomes more visible in our daily life already. Not only are there many products „Made in China“. Also we read headlines in the media, that indicate that Chinese companies want to buy key industry companies from Germany like the robot manufacturer Kuka. While watching the European Football Cup on TV, we can see many banner advertisements from the electronic giant Hisense. Besides the economic changes China also goes through great social change. On the one hand the population tree has turned upside down in the last decades with a greatly increasing number of people over 60 years old and a life expectation that is continuously increasing. On the other hand one of the causes for this development, the one-child policy has now been lifted after 30 years. Since the beginning of 2016, China now has a new two-child policy which already shows the first results with the beginning of a baby-boom. Changes and how to deal with them will be our challenge. Yours, Lars Kellner

WDR media group takes over the management mandate for the children‘s book brand „Conni“ of the Carlsen Verlag Cologne, June 30, 2016 As part of this year‘s Open House, the program representatives of the WDR media group (WDRmg) presented a new prominent addition to its license portfolio: The Cologne-based company has now started to market the merchandising rights around the popular childrens book mark „Conni“. The license mandate from Carlsen Verlag relates to the book series for children starting from the age of three and covers all product in the DACH area, with the exception of Publishing, Audio / Video, and theme parks. Conni acts for almost 25 years as a best friend for young bookworms. The stories of the sympathetic girl in red and white striped jumper move thematically close to the lifestyles of their target groups. The books let preschoolers playfully discover everyday knowledge, as cycling, swimming, camping or baking. The focus of the WDRmg therefore are potential licensees who want to target their products to children aged between three and six years.
8
Andrea Zuska, manager for program utilization and project management in the WDRmg: „ As a licensing agency we are continuously building on our portfolio. With a focus on assigned rights, content and territories, we have set the course on diversity and expansion. The Carlsen Verlag as a new client is an important milestone, as we were able to open the door to the publishing industry”. Julia Wurzer, brands team leader in WDRmg says:“Overall, Conni is an exciting addition to our strong children‘s brand portfolio. Our marketing concept consistently takes up the themes of the books and strategically prepares the way for attractive and marketable licensed products. „ The new license agreement with Carlsen Verlag was presented by Mrs. Zuska on the WDRmg Open House event in Friedrichshafen. The addition of “Conni” was presented to all of the licensee partners of the WDRmg next to the already existing license products like the Maus, Krtek, Jan & Henry, Qpoodle5 and many more. Baby Boom in China 2016? Berlin, July 12, 2016 Since the beginning of this year the onechild policy has been lifted. This policy was established in 1979 and has very strictly regulated the family planning for Chinese couples allowing them only the birth of one child. During the last years, since 2013 this policy was already slowly lifted. Couples that both came from a one-child family were given the right to have two children. Since the beginning of this year the one-child policy was then completely lifted and turned into a two-child policy. These 30 years of one-child policy are one of the causes of the rapid aging of the Chinese population. Currently over 30% of the population is over 50 years old, with a total population of around 1.4 billion people. There are not yet any figures how big this baby boom will be and how long it will last. Some estimations mention more then 15 Mio. new borns per year. On small level it can already be seen that more women in China apply for maternity leave from their work. The impact to the consumer market still must be observed. This increased middle class also has higher demands on products for their children, as so far they could have only one. Environmentally friendly and sustainable products, that are safe and traceable become more and more important for them. German toy producers can profit from this demands as the image of products “Made in Germany” is very high among chinese consumers. And this is not only relevant for cars and machines from Germany but more and more also for consumer products, food, cosmetics and toys that find high appreciation. LK
A more significant development in China is the strong increase of the middle class in China. Sources consider around 20% of the population to belong to the middle class already. In relative figures this is still far below other countries like Germany (around 50% middle class). But viewed in total figures this is an enormous number of over 280 Mio. people. The definitions for the middle class in China vary strongly between an everag monthly income of 7.000-50.000 RMB. Also the regional influence of the evaluation of the monthly imcome is very important. Whereas an anverage monthly income of only 7.000 RMB in a city like Shanghai or Beijing is not very much money, it can be a fairly good income in the central or western provinces of China.

The products of Timm Elektronik provide safe loading and unloading of inflammable liquids as well as qualified access control to hazardous areas.
Highest product quality & reliability Because of the tremendous damage in case of an accident in potentially explosive atmospheres it is essential to have reliable devices that eliminate possible sources of danger. The products of Timm Elektronik are well-known for highest product quality, durability and their price-performance ratio.
EKX-4 Grounding Control Device: For controlled grounding of top loading tank trucks and railway tankers. The 2-pole version has been designed especially for use in the chemical and food industry to provide safe loading and unloading for containers, drums and similar vessels.
EUS-2 Overfill Prevention Controller: Monitoring of level sensors, proper connection of grounding and vapour recovery for bottom loading tank trucks according to European Standard EN 13922 and American Standard API RP 1004 including International Standards ATEX and IECEx.
LT-4-Ex Terminal & KL5-R Card Reader: For secure access and identification processes in hazardous areas.
SEK-3 Marine Grounding System: For potential equalization during loading and unloading of vessels. The third generation of the marine grounding system was brought to market in 2016 after conducting long-term studies in the field of marine grounding.
22
Improving safety during loading and unloading of vessels Although marine grounding systems have been in use for more than 30 years there is still a lack of knowledge about the merits of their use. That’s why Timm Elektronik started in 2012 a huge foundation project in conjunction with the Hamburg University of Technology. The long-term studies gave certainty about the safety enhancing practice of using a marine grounding system. The main reason for the unsafe environment during landing of vessels is the potential difference between ship and loading bay, caused by the galvanic effect. In a galvanic cell electrical energy derives between two different metals. The vessel, the metal construction of the loading pier and the water as electrolyte in between form such a galvanic cell. The existing voltage difference between anode and cathode will lead to an indefinite electrical current flow in case of any conductive bridge, e.g. while attaching staircases or other equipment. The SEK-3 Marine Grounding System is designed according with state of art technology in explosion protection. SEK-3 prevents dangerous situations caused by undefined connections and pays serious attention to the design of the connecting elements as well as the monitoring of electrical conditions while the bonding is established. This is one of the reasons why simple bonding lines or grounding control devices for electrostatics are inappropriate for use at marine applications. The design of the SEK-3 Marine Grounding System is based on the knowledge of the realised studies. The clearly visible LEDs are not only at the front of the SEK-3 housing but also at the newly designed Marine Grounding Clamp. The userfriendly combination of explosion protection methods allows to open the housing in hazardous areas for easy access to inside error diagnosis display, to change cables or connection wires. The effective error diagnosis system indicates the reason for occurred errors via 10 LEDs. The SEK-3 Marine Grounding System is easy to implement in practice but raises the safe practices with inflammable fluids to the highest level of safety. Global performance & customer orientation Timm Elektronik supplies their products around the world in collaboration with their global business partners by taking the individual requirements of their customers to achieve a suitable application solution.
