A park cuts across the city, high-rise buildings at the head. At the tip, the exceptional building with its diamond-shaped, external load-bearing structure in concrete, marks the start of the Leien. The height of the building is limited. The school is a compact city campus nestled in the urban fabric. The campus is at once landscape and city and is open and accessible. The central, green patio can be seen from the street. The ‘park ramp’ – a public walking and cycle path – over, along and through the building connects to a bridge over the Leien. The school is both building and infrastructure. The public outdoor stairs under the cantilevered volume gives the school a recognizable entrance. It is the place where the Leien, the cycle bridge, the park ramp and the school meet. It turns the building into a gateway to the city.

Een park loopt door de stad, enkele torens steken erbovenuit. Op het einde, grenzend aan de Leien, staat het bijzondere gebouw met zijn ruitvormige structuur in beton. De bouwhoogte is aan de bestaande omliggende gebouwen aangepast. De compacte stadscampus nestelt zich in het stedelijk weefsel. De campus is zowel landschap als stad. De school is open en toegankelijk. Op straat kan je binnenkijken in de centrale, deels ingegraven, groene patio. De parkhelling – een publiek wandel- en fietspad – door het gebouw mondt uit in een fietsbrug over de Leien. De school is zowel gebouw als infrastructuur. De trappen onder het uitkragende volume geeft de school een herkenbare toegang. Het is de plek waar de Leien, de fietsbrug, de parkhelling en de school elkaar raken. Het maakt van het gebouw een stadspoort.

Un parc traverse la ville, audessus quelques tours. Au bout, au début des Leien, un étrange bâtiment dresse ses losanges de béton. La hauteur de la construction est 0 adaptée à celle des bâtiments existants, la haute école a fait son nid dans le tissu urbain. Le campus « compact » appartient à la fois au paysage et à la ville. L’école peut être traversée. De la rue, on aperçoit un patio de verdure situé à l’intérieur, au centre. Une rampe – une piste cyclable et une promenade accessibles au public – qui longe le bâtiment, passe audessus et le traverse, rendant l’école à la fois bâtiment et infrastructure. Elle aboutit à une passerelle pour piétons et cyclistes sur les Leien. L’escalier public extérieur couvert marque l’entrée de l’école. Dans ce lieu animé où les Leien, la passerelle cycliste, la rampe et l’école se rejoignent, le bâtiment devient une porte d’accès à la ville et au 4 parc.
