Saudi Arabia Worlds First Desert Polo Is Born In The Unspoiled Beauty of ALULA Sport of Kings, King of Sports, Saudi Arabia is celebrating the first international polo tournament in January 16-18 2020. One of Arabia’s best kept secrets, the exquisite UNESCO heritage site in AlUla that will officially open to the public in October 2020 – AlUla Desert Polo represents a milestone in Saudi Arabia’s sporting and social journey.
Experiencealula.com
Alula Desert Polo will feature some of the most renowned players and patrons in the world of polo. Organized by the Royal Commission for AlUla in partnership with the Saudi Polo Federation, Desert Polo is one of the highlights of the three-month long Winter at Tantora festival, running from December to March and held in the historic and untouched region.
Amr F Zedan, Chairman of the Saudi Polo Federation and an international polo patron said: “This tournament is a celebration of the transformational journey that we are making in Saudi Arabia. “Our goal in promoting this extraordinary event is twofold. We want to tap into the undiscovered sporting talent that we know exists among young Saudi men and women and encourage greater levels of participation in our sport. We are also proud to use sport, and polo in particular, as a vehicle to showcase a truly unique destination and an incredible overall experience to the world. Saudi Arabia has the capability, the infrastructure and, crucially, the will, to stage major events on the world stage and Desert Polo is just one example of this.”

Exclusive Interview with
Reto Gaudenzi Founder & CEO of
Snow Polo St. Moritz the only high goal tounament played on the frozen lake
What inspired you to launch Snow Polo St. Moritz in 1985? My motives at the time were two fold. First, I wanted to continue the St Moritz tradition of inventing new sports. So, I brought polo from the grass to the frozen lake and introduced a new, larger polo ball that was specifically designed for the snow. Second, I wanted to increase the revenue for my Swiss hometown by filling a gap in the calendar at the end of January with a world-class-event. And so, the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz was born. People didn’t believe in it in the beginning. They thought the idea was crazy, but now it’s embraced and has become a part of the culture of St. Moritz. It was born here, like bobsleigh. And it’s become a big economic positive for the region.
How did you get started in polo? Photo Credit: Gralla
I grew up in Silvaplana, a small village just around the corner from St. Moritz and later became a hotelier. I’ve run businesses around the world, but in my spare time I have always been an ambitious athlete. I used to play ice hockey and be a bobsleigh pilot. In 1978 a friend introduced me to polo and I immediately fell in love with this elegant sport. It’s like a drug! Polo lives of the fascination of a team sport but also by raw power and ultimate speed. Today, polo is my passion-turned business…
How has the sport changed over the years? The players are more athletic, the horses have more quality. Furthermore, the fields are better, and polo is faster. But the fascination and passion of the sport of kings is still the same! Photo Credit: Fotoswiss
What can someone expect when visiting the first time the tournament Snow Polo St. Moritz? Year and again, our guests delight in the spectacular ambience on the frozen lake set amidst one of the most beautiful mountain sceneries in the world. No place in better encapsulates the combination of true hospitality, luxury, and authentic, Alpine lifestyle. Only here in St. Moritz we have got all the right ingredients: the snow, the sunshine, the people, the horses and the excitement of the polo. It is a meeting place for locals and visitors, polo fans, winter sports enthusiasts and those who just come to enjoy life.
What do you enjoy about the sport of polo? Photo Credit: Fotoswiss
Polo is fast, sexy and fun to watch and play! Play with heart and dedication, prove that you’re out there to have fun together with your teammates and play to the best of your ability you’re as good as in. Besides we’re all addicted to the sport so there’s always that to bond over if everything else fails.
What is one motto you live by?
“
Work hard, play hard – and fair! And, very important: enjoy life!

Meet your match at POLO where friendships & fun can lead to love
Exclusive Interview with the founders of Polo Singles Find Love & Lifestyle What inspired you to start Polo Singles?
How did you begin and how you came up with the name Polo Singles?
Chon: Polo is such a sociable lifestyle, it is a great way to meet passionate, entrepreneurial and inspiring people on a personal and professional level. I became involved with polo as an amateur patron and club secretary of a local club. Through this, I met not only some of my best friends – Jane & Sarah – but also my life-partner, Jason. We have a joint goal to work together as Polo Singles business partners and in setting up our charity, Special Forces Horses. The combination of wanting to give back to horses and people prompted us all to look at starting the website in order to fund our charity which aims to help veterans cope with Combat PTSD through contact with horses.
Chon: How we began: Jason came up with the concept of the polo dating for like-minded people who share a passion for the sport.
Horses have a long-proven track record as therapy animals and equine facilitated learning: We aim to help both horses and people with Special Forces Horses, supported by the fun medium of online dating.
Although from very different backgrounds, Jason, Sarah, Jane and I all met through polo, yet we would have probably not crossed paths otherwise. As our friendships have survived the years, we know that a meeting through polo can lead to greater things, romantically or as good buddies. As 55 million people around the world watch, enjoy and support polo there is plenty of opportunity for members of Polo Singles to expand their social circles!
Sarah: When I moved back to the UK from overseas, one of the first things I did was to visit my local polo club. One, so I could enjoy watching a game of polo on a sunny summer’s afternoon and the other to meet new people as I didn’t know anyone. So after a shake of hands and a “Hello my name’s Sarah, what’s yours?” I not only enjoyed watching and learning how to play polo throughout that summer, I met some lovely people including my now best friend Chon, who then introduced me to her friend Jane and her partner Jason. Little did any of us know that 10 years on, our friendship is as strong as ever and that we would become business partners working towards a charity that we all passionately believe in. As the saying goes… the rest is history!
What makes your lifestyle dating membership stand out from other dating companies?
Chon: As Polo Singles has been set up as a means to support our charity, Special Forces Horses, I believe we are truly unique. As one of our new members, Mike, says, “I think this is a brilliant niche idea as I am a polo addict and we all love to date! The charity angle you do also resonates with me strongly. I also expect that it will do so very strongly with all members of the polo community. Their love of their ponies makes them more likely in my view to be altruistic for the right causes than say the average person in the population.” Additionally, a sport only exists when it has a fan base so we’d like to use Polo Singles to encourage new fans to the sport. Our vision is to not just to be a dating site but a global networking site, like ASW (A Small World) with a real impact on charity and recovery. We’ve started a Pinterest Page for all the lovely things about polofashion, art, décor, and we’ve included a Links Page on the website as there is so much knowledge to be shared, so many new polo destinations to visit.
Who would you say Polo Singles is the right platform for?
Chon: Polo Singles is the world’s only online dating service dedicated to the polo lifestyle, and we believe we satisfy three different requirements: Firstly, if you just love watching polo for the truly superb horses and want to meet up with a group of people to watch a match from the social side, we are the site for you. Secondly, if you would like to date someone who understands the passion for a sport (and all that goes with it!) or you are looking to expand your knowledge and network within polo, then Polo Singles is the right platform for you. Finally, if you would like to know that some of your membership goes back towards supporting pony welfare and re-training, and in assisting the brave servicemen and women of every country who keep us all safe in their recovery from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder then look no further.
Tell us about your expansion plans and upcoming events. We’re making it our mission to connect people with a passion for polo, and compassion for people and ponies. Sarah: Like most of us, I’ve had my fair share of internet dating site horror stories. Those tales are for another time. The thing I realised was missing from all of them was the sense of friendship and a community factor and that is what we want to achieve with Polo Singles. Everyone loves a blether with a like-minded person. If someone that has your passion for the sport and the same love of the ponies, then you have a connection to start a conversation, meet new friends and have fun. Something we all like to do.
Give the Gift of Love Beautifully wrapped gift voucher polosingles.com
Sarah: On the Polo Singles side, our mobile app is being launched ready for the New Year so you will be able to locate other ‘Polo Singles’ in your area. Other plans for the future include ‘meet and mingle’ events at selected polo matches, tournament sponsorship and of course, Best Playing Pony awards! Chon: We are looking for a third trustee for Special Forces Horses so that we can progress our charity. Special Forces Horses will take retired polo ponies and rehabilitate off-the track race horses to assist victims of Combat PTSD to cope with their debilitating illness.

“ We’re making it our mission to connect people who have passion AND compassion: What do you enjoy about the sport of polo?
A passion for polo
Chon: One of the other things that Jason and I both love about polo is the partnership between the top players and their horses and that’s what we’d like to bring to Special Forces Horses. Polo is a true team sport which can be played from the age of six to 60+, where teams can be of mixed ages and abilities, where women can, and do, compete alongside and against men, and where new players can play alongside seasoned professionals. We also love the family aspect of being part of a team and that the horses are kept in strings. Sarah: With polo being played in over 60 countries with international players and supporters, it offers provides some of the best venues and opportunities to meet new and interesting people who you might never normally meet in your usual everyday routine. Between the agility of the players and the power of the ponies, polo is a sport that whether you are playing or spectating, it never disappoints.
Compassion for people and ponies
.
”
Sarah: Giving back whenever you can is a win-win for all, and when you can bring smiles and fun along the way, what’s not to love?! Chon: As horses have a very proven track record as therapy animals, (for example, Riding for the Disabled and its royal patronage) we aim to help the rehabilitation and recovery of both horses and people with Special Forces Horses, through the fun medium of online dating. In this way, you are actually getting something back for yourself at the same time as giving to charity! We envision Polo Singles as an opportunity for celebrating life, laughter, friendship and love whilst helping to create a legacy through Special Forces Horses.

Two 3-star chefs take to the kitchen to celebrate the Art of Fusion
Yannick Alléno, Ricardo Guadalupe, Andreas Caminada
‘Everything you can imagine is real’; so how do you go about teaching them something new? By mixing what they know with what they don't know. This statement from Picasso clearly illustrates the philosophy that guides Hublot and our friends: the Art of Fusion makes the inconceivable possible, striking a fine balance between innovation and tradition, with more than a hint of audacity. Ricardo Guadalupe CEO of HUBLOT
Choosing a distinguished partner to celebrate the Art of Fusion alongside Hublot was vital. Meticulous expertise and a passion for fine artistry are the ingredients of both gourmet cuisine and Haute Horlogerie, blended together with time, and an aesthetic sensibility born from close attention to detail. Not to mention the very finest materials, naturally: Magic Gold, sapphire, rubber and ceramic for Hublot and exceptional produce for Yannick Alléno and Andreas Caminada, two 3 Michelin star Chefs. Yannick Alléno, Ricardo Guadalupe, Andreas Caminada
A symphony of excellence Passion, excellence, and commitment define these two Chefs, masters of the art of creative Haute Cuisine, brought together for this exclusive live cooking event. Yannick Alléno, a Parisian Chef twice awarded three stars, created a lobster dish. If you needed reminding, he is a master of reinventing classic French cuisine through his innovative methods. Techniques, processes, expertise, respect for raw materials and a quest for the perfect flavour inform his perfectionist approach to cuisine. Preserving the precious original flavours of the ingredients, Andreas Caminada masterfully plays with textures and senses.
He won the Sustainable Restaurant Award for his commitment to using local and organic ingredients, renewable energy and recyclable materials. What drives him? Sharing the very essence of local produce in a simple yet authentic way. Personal expression is firmly anchored in the very best of each region. It was no surprise, therefore, that the Swiss 3-star Chef opted to turn the humble cabbage into something entirely more sublime.
The Art of Fusion Venturing into uncharted territory is second nature to Hublot, the first Haute Horlogerie manufacture to combine gold and rubber and the first luxury brand to partner with the world of football – one of the world's most universal languages. Since the best evenings always seem to feature sport, there was a particular emphasis on football and motor racing. Mini table football to foster on-the-spot alliances, Ferraris for lovers of mechanical prowess, and an exhibition of iconic collections and those resulting from these partnerships found favour with friends of the Brand, Michel Pont, Dario Cologna, customers and journalists. This memorable celebration took place in the gorgeous surroundings of the seven-hectare Enea Tree Museum park in Rapperswil, Switzerland, where over 50 trees – some more than a hundred years old – stand alongside sculptures by renowned artists, in a collection owned by the famous landscape architect Enzo Enea.

A moment with… High jewelry house de GRISOGONO Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about yourself and how did you CEO Céline Assimon started your career?
My last role was High Jewellery and Exceptional Pieces Director at Piaget; prior to this, I held the position of Worldwide Head of High Jewellery and High Watchmaking Sales at Louis Vuitton. I always had a fascination for jewellery and throughout the years, I was amazed to discover how each jewel tells a personal story. A jewellery box is often enchanted; you know about each milestone in a life by going through the pieces. As a little girl, I used to sneak into my grandmother’s jewellery drawers, and ask her to tell me more about each of her treasures. She would patiently share her life story that way. I also have a deep appreciation for craftsmanship: I have always enjoyed watching Artisans patiently carve, mould and polish. It is magical to me to watch their hands at work. They master such an ancestral savoir-faire, give shape to some of the most precious stones in the world. Joining de GRISOGONO last December [2018] is an achievement in my career I am extremely proud of.
You are the first female CEO at de Grisogono, how does it feel for you joined the de Grisogono family? It is a great fit. I am grateful, and very honoured to have been chosen to lead de GRISOGONO onto the next chapter. After many years of experience in the luxury industry, working with some of the most talented people in the sector, I feel prepared and ready for this moment.
If you had to choose a favourite piece in your collection, what would it be? It is always hard to pick only one but our iconic Ventaglio earrings in black and white diamonds are definitely part of my Top 3. With its appeal for generous and sensual volumes and curves, Ventaglio are part of the de GRISOGONO creations; sculptures made of audacious architectural aesthetics and contrasts vividly expressing the “chiaroscuro” signature of the Maison. I also love most of our High Jewelry pieces, we makes too difficult to choose!
Allegra Toi & Moi Earrings & Ring
Ventaglio Earrings
What advice you have for the next generation, particularly for those hoping to follow in your footsteps? How would you describe the style of de Grisogono? The Maison has made its mark as a free-thinking and highly creative force in High Jewelry. Ever daring to be different, our outsized, highly-colorful and sensuous jewels results from the constant innovation and creativity of our Creative Studio and craftsmen. de GRISOGONO caters to self-confident and active women, for whom we design our jewels. One of our emblematic collections is Allegra, with its unique and distinctive visual signature – intertwining.
What are some of the materials you use in your jewellery collection? We mostly use white and pink gold, and we make some selected High Jewelry earrings in titanium for the lightness. In terms of stones, diamonds are the main ones for our collection and High Jewelry pieces but we mix them with colored semi-precious or precious stones varying in size and shape.
Follow your dreams and be daring! The industry is more inclusive and ready to be challenged. Technology, evolutions in lifestyles push the industry to think and act differently. It is a good thing. de GRISOGONO has always been innovative and daring, so this suits our DNA and my wish to go forward. But I would encourage anyone to follow this path. Tell us about your expansion plans and upcoming ventures. My ambition is to keep building on the foundations of the Maison: High Jewelry was, and always will be, at the heart of the brand but today’s customers also want more versatile pieces – pieces which can accompany them from day to night. I want to put the client at the center of the strategy, and keep pushing boundaries in terms of product design. I will also pursue the development of the Brand on an international scale. What is your life philosophy?
“Love what you do and have fun” is my personal motto.

Not only must we do it, but we must use the right type of products for our skin Having that sorted out, we can finally think of bringing our skin to the next level of beautiful. This is what the Telomere Serum is for.

A moment with Co-founder MARK ALLVEY of Niquesa Travel
Tell us about the journey of Niquesa Travel.
Niquesa Travel was established two years ago to meet the significant shift we are seeing from the consumption of luxury goods to the comnsumption of luxury experiences, consequently experiential travel is playing an increasingly important role and this is the sector we focus on. Niquesa Travel is not the first luxury holiday travel agency, but word of mouth has made it the most coveted. What makes Niquesa Travel stand out from other luxury travel agnecies experiences? We believe that there are a growing number of travellers that at least once a year are looking for more than a 10 day beach holiday. More often travellers are seeking holidays that are life-enhancing, even life-changing and where they can enjoy a much deeper connection with the world around them. This is what we provide.
Niquesatravel.com
‘‘ Life is a book and those who don’t travel read only one page!
‘‘
How far does the customisation go? We create examples of what we do on our web site so that people can be inspired to look at a destination in a new way, but we love a challenge and can organsie most things around the world, but everything we do is very much personally tailored around the individual needs and desires of each client when they book a trip with us.
The top 3 most extravagant or unique requests so far? • A client who wanted to go diamond diving in South Africa and then fly to Victoria Falls for the ultimate proposal • A couple who wanted to go Storm Chasing in the US • A Glacier Party for 6 in heated tents under the Northern Lights in Iceland with a DJ flown in from Reykjavik
Private Travel Design by Niquesa Travel www.niquesatravel.com
Tell us about your expansion plans and upcoming ventures. We love to get creative and every couple of months we add another two or three experiences to our collection. Recently we added a holiday around a person’s heritage and ancestry. We send out a DNA kit which is returned and sent to our DNA partners in Italy . They analyse the Whole Genome, your entire DNA - instead of offering you limited DNA tests that you often find and we then create a holiday around it. We also have a number of desert islands where you alone or up to 8 friends can spend 3 days with a survival specialist and then be left alone to fend for yourselves for four days, catching your own food, making camp etc… We have also created a wonderful trip around the Vatican with access to otherwise restricted areas.
What do you feel makes Niquesa’s travel experience stand out? For us its not about booking a holiday based on where people want to go, its much more about creating experiences around how they want to feel when they travel. This combined with very attentive service both before, during and after the holiday.
What do you want people to say and to feel after a travel experience with Niquesa Travel? We want them to feel satisfied, to feel looked after and to say we have gone way beyond expectations both in our levels of service as well as the detail and seamless operation of the trips we plan for them. That they felt reassured that all the logistics were taken care of no matter how complex and they were left to focus on their holiday and loved ones
Giardino Mountain St. Moritz 5 Star Luxury Design Hotel
“ We want to inspire and make people happy no matter whether guests, employees, partners and investors.
”
Hotel Giardino Mountain Via Maistra 3, 7512 St Moritz, Switzerland +41 81 836 63 00 www.giardinohotels.ch
Tell us about the background and the hotels of Giardino? The Original Giardino opened in Ascona on Lake Maggiore in 1986 and quickly became a national and international celebrity as a modern and colorful boutique hotel. By the way at that time no one spoke about boutique hotels ... In 2011 we decided to multiply the well-known label. With the Hotels Giardino Mountain in the world-famous Hotspot of St Moritz and the Giardino Lago on Lake Maggiore, further pearls of the Swiss hotel industry followed. In 2015, the Urban Retreat in Zurich was opened with the Hotel Atlantis by Giardino.
How does Giardino differ from other luxury hotels? At the Giardino Hotels, everyone can play the role they want. The hotels are pleasantly relaxed, the staff is professional and has character. The casual ambience combined with the highest quality and service is a must for the luxury traveler.
Rooms And Suites Historic walls and a contemporary interior – different centuries come together in the rooms of the Hotel Giardino Mountain. Untreated wood, bright colours, colourful fabrics and the charm of the rough mountain world combine to create a modern Alpine chic with maximum comfort. No two rooms are alike. Each one has its own character, and many boast sensational views as well.
What are the highlights for the season in St. Moritz 2020? Our pop-up restaurant RSRV Cheese & Champagne, which we run with the Maison de Champagne Mumm, is our highlight this winter. Swiss cheese specialties and the newest special Champagne Collection RSRV are served under the stars in a transparent glass restaurant. Just heavenly.
Tell us something about your 2 Michelin Star Restaurant in St. Moritz. Our Restaurant Brand Ecco is a story of success. We have three 2 star restaurants in our hotel group. The innovative spirit, the ability to handle flavors and textures is one of the incredible skills of our Chef Rolf Fliegauf. Rolf is working in our company since 2006. This long relationship between us, our employees and guests is really special.
What vision you have for Giardino Hotel Group? Our vision is to continue to be successful and to have fun. If other hotels would join the group, this would certainly be positive, but they should fit the brand and philosophy.
Half St. Moritz, half mountain massif. The Hotel Giardino Mountain is located at almost 2,000 metres above sea level, between the Alpine peaks of Corvatsch and Corviglia. Surrounding it are the forests and mountain lakes of the Engadine valley. The ensemble of seven Engadine buildingswas extensively restored in 2011 and reopened as a design hotel. Five stars, three restaurants and one spa, a sun deck and a Bar-Lounge. And the rooms are pure Alpine chic. Giardino has always differed from other luxury hotels in Switzerland. The Giardino Hotels amaze guests with their very own interpretation of luxury. We break from the norm, try new things and have fresh ideas. Giardino is pleasantly unusual. Yet we still have the heart of a Mediterranean host – and therefore create a uniquely relaxing atmosphere. So you can feel completely at ease. Welcome home.
A Tale of Two Castles Staying in a Scottish castle is rightly thought to be something special - a luxurious experience, steeped in history and enjoyed by some of the wealthiest families in the world. However, you don’t need to have connections to the upper echelons of British society to enjoy this luxury experience. There are two spectacular castles you can book a stay at right away; each with their own unique charms. The landscape (and temperature) of the Scottish Highlands is something to behold. There are only a few places in the UK with natural land, lochs and mountains as unspoiled as they are in this part of the country. The roads can be treacherous and the WIFI patchy; but all that just adds to the rural oldfashioned charm. Expect your trip to stay in a historic Scottish castle to contain gothic architecture, giant four-poster beds and dinners of fresh local produce, followed by whiskies by a log fire.

Text by Laura Pearson-Smith
Stonefield Castle Stonefield Castle is the most rural of the two properties. With no phone signal and patchy internet, you are set for a very relaxing stay. They don’t want you to feel entirely cut-off from the world however, so offer free phone calls from the landline in your suite. It sits on Scotland’s Kintyre peninsula; around a 3-and-a-half-hour drive from capital city Edinburgh. The castle’s nearest village, Tarbert on Loch Fyne, is a thriving fishing town, supplying fresh lobsters, langoustines and scallops to neighbouring hotels and restaurants. That means it’s no surprise that Stonefield Castle makes this fresh Scottish seafood the star of its nightly dinner menus. Stonefield Castle was built in 1837 and was home to the Campbell family. One of the great Scottish clans. It sits in its own extensive grounds; making it a great woodland walking location and deer-spotting place. When you arrive back inside after that cold, brisk exploration of nature, Stonefield Castle’s stunning Library, and Drawing Room bar, will warm you up with roaring log fires and a vast selection of Scotland’s best whiskies. You can dine in the AA rosette award-winning restaurant, or grab a less formal meal in the cosy bar. The castle is dog-friendly and one of the most heart-warning sights is seeing these adorable four-legged visitors enjoying the heat from the fire. No matter where you choose to dine, the food at Stonefield Castle is exceptional. The presentation is beautiful and it’s all made using the best of Scotland’s produce. They have mouth-watering seasonal set menus; but also offer nightly seafood and highland beef specialities that are perfect for that more special occasion. Their Chateaubriand for Two (£70) is a real treat and comes with hand-cut chips and a choice of sauces. They will even deliver to your room if you would like the more private room service.
Stonefield Castle
Tulloch Castle
The staff at Stonefield Castle really make it a home from home, and are so welcoming and accommodating. Just what you would expect from Scotland. Make sure you take a tour when you arrive, around the property’s stunning rooms and antique furniture; to learn more about the estate and it’s history.
Stonefield Castle’s sister property sits considerably further north, pass Loch Ness. It’s still only around a 4-hour drive from Edinburgh (on larger roads); so it’s a doable journey in a morning, with a pit-stop for lunch. Tulloch Castle isn’t as rural as Stonefield Castle and is actually within a small town - Dingwall. Its estate is therefore much smaller, offering less land to explore. It’s more of a ‘one night escape’ destination. It does, however, have a richer history than Stonefield and even has its own ghost - the Green Lady. The team at Tulloch Castle offer a ghost tour in the evenings for those who dare. Tulloch Castle also prides itself on its food. Their restaurant isn’t right on a loch like Stonefield, so it doesn’t offer as much seafood; but the food at Tulloch Castle is hearty, warming and traditionally Scottish. The sort of place where you wish you could unbutton your trousers after dinner! There are 22 bedrooms and suites at Tulloch Castle; with views over Scotland’s Cromarty Firth and Black Isle. It’s a much older property than Stonefield Castle and dates back to the 16th century. It’s thought to have been the home of the then Baron Bayne. It was then passed between the Bayne-Davidson-Vickers family until the 1940s, when it became a military hospital for Dunkirk casualties. The property became a luxury hotel in 1996. It’s a stunning building with ornate ceilings and fireplaces to give you a glimpse into its past. Their Turrets Restaurant is an experience in itself, with its very baronial decor and candle-lit tables. They also use the best of Scottish produce to put together their menu, and guests can relax post-dinner in the lounge or Green Lady Bar. Where Stonefield specialised in its extensive range of whiskies, Tulloch Castle’s enviable wine cellar is its jewel in the crown. You are guaranteed a true Scottish luxury experience in both of these properties, and a welcome that will keep you coming back for more.

Luxury Boutique Hotel Calatrava 5 stars luxury hotel with stunning sea views in Palma de Mallorca‘s old town The stylish boutique Hotel Calatrava sits in an enviable position just back from the seafront and almost next door to Palma's grand cathedral.

Breakfast at Boutique Hotel Calatrava
Royal Palace of La Almudaina
Palma is the capital city of the Spanish Mediterranean island. The city of Palma has changed considerably, thanks to city planning and extensive renovation measures in the old town. The so-called ‘pearl of the Mediterranean’ is today more beautiful than ever, and the Mediterranean flair which attracts millions of visitors each year can be felt in every corner. In 2015, ‘The Sunday Times’ named it the world’s best place to live.
The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is located just opposite Palma’s imposing Cathedral `La Seu´. It’s elevated position overlooking the Bay of Palma lent it great strategic importance throughout the ages. Today, it’s one of the capital’s main attractions.
The word ‘Almudaina’ comes from the Arabic for ‘fortress’. However, long before the Moorsarrived in the 10th century, the site had already been used by Romans, and even further back, by the Talaiots. When the Christians took possession of the island in the 13th century, the Moorish features were largely demolished. Under King Jaume II, the palace adopted the Levantine Gothic style.

Luxury Mayfair Must-Dos for Travelers Text by Laura Pearson-Smith
Bustling Mayfair has London’s most decadent postcodes. Through it runs hightraffic street Piccadilly, linking horrid tourist trap Piccadilly Circus to Hyde Park Corner and its neighbouring luxury hotels. Even Her Majesty the Queen once lived in a townhouse at 145 Piccadilly; now the Intercontinental Park Lane hotel. This, her childhood residence at the time of her uncle’s abdication of the throne, gives the area real historical significance. Some of London’s most stylish locations can be accessed just off of Piccadilly, and if you want to experience key, but luxurious, London landmarks, Green Park tube station is the place to head to. Stay The Athenaeum is a high-end, stylish hotel tucked away and covered in green foliage, towards the bottom end of Piccadilly. This luxurious 5-star hotel features bedrooms and suites in the main building, as well as a range of exclusive apartments across the road for longer, more selfsufficient, stays. Impeccably-dressed doormen greet you as you enter the lobby to check-in. Inside it’s relaxed and cosy; but Hermès and Chanel paintings remind you of the class of establishment you are in. The decor is chic and predominantly neutral, with green plants and pops of colour dotted around. If you desire lots of space and an unrivalled view of Green Park towards Buckingham Palace, a Green Park Suite is what you should request. From £407 per night, these open-plan suites really tick all the boxes. There’s a comfortable sitting area, desk space at the window to work, and a huge king-sized bed with delightful Hypnos mattress. There’s even a pillow menu so you can select the one that will give you the most comfortable night’s sleep. The classic marble-bathroom, with giant walk-in shower, gives you a chic space for pampering and getting ready for a night out.
Dine For dinner, the hotel’s restaurant Galvin at The Athenaeum serves a menu from Michelin-starred chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin. Known for their French cuisine, this restaurant sees them turn towards modern British cooking with homegrown produce. Dinner is a la carte, with a more affordable theatre menu between 5:30pm-7pm and 9pm-11pm. The food has that Michelin-star quality and merging of flavours; but with portions more akin to Britain’s love of comfort food. Service is quite slow as they want to serve everything just right, so this is the place for a lengthy dinner with flowing wine and conversation. For breakfast, you need to take up the opportunity of being so close to exclusive, luxury, society haunt The Wolseley. They, for sure, do the best breakfast and brunch, in the most glamorous of surroundings for miles around. Booking here is essential, and once you enter the beautiful art-deco wonder that’s inside, you’ll be glad you braved it past those rather foreboding blacked-out front doors. For breakfast, it’s on the pricey side; but the food and the experience combined is more than worth it. Their pancakes are a must-have!
Shop Just across the road from The Wolseley is the Burlington Arcade – a covered luxury shopping arcade that dates back to 1819. They have just celebrated their 200th year and a host of new brands have recently made a home there – including Christian Louboutin, Harrods Christmas and MOU London. Even if you are just browsing, you need to make a visit to London’s oldest and most luxurious shopping destination. Across the road is upmarket, royal-approved department store Fortnum & Mason, dressed in its distinct mint green that’s become just as recognisable as Tiffany’s famous blue. The ground and lower ground levels are all dedicated to food and drink. As you enter, you can shop Fortnum & Mason’s glorious chocolate shop and all of their pre-packed foods, teas and coffees. On the floor below, there’s a food hall selling fresh fruit & vegetables, fish, meat, baking and in-house prepared meals for dining at home or in the office. The store has long been a supplier to the Royal Family and prides itself on impeccable quality. It’s a veritable treasure trove and well-worth dedicating an hour or two to exploring.
Play There’s nobody in the world that doesn’t know The Ritz brand and the high-end experience it represents. The Rivoli Bar at The Ritz London is a glorious location for a cocktail or two after dinner. It’s an incredibly decadent place, whilst still managing to remain chic and tasteful. This intimate cocktail lounge is an Art Deco-style masterpiece and was designed in 2001 by interior designer Tessa Kennedy. Its cocktail menu is unlike any you will find elsewhere. It has been created to utilise homemade ingredients from The Ritz London; including ginger honey, pine syrup and cherry tonic. Cocktail prices start from £22, so make sure that wallet is full.

Luxury Interior Design By Celine Estates
Exclusive Interview with award winning Luxury Interior Designer Noor Charchafchi founder of
Celine Estates What was the moment when you knew you would be an interior designer?
I don’t think there really was a moment as such, but I have always loved art and design and always knew that somehow that would be a part of my life.
How can you characterise your style?
Style is so hard to characterise by its very nature but I’m obviously asked this question quite a lot and tend to say I veer towards a contemporary classic style. I design spaces that are supposed to be lived in so my style is very much about the client brief and what they want their home to feel and look like.
celineestates.com
Where do you work on your designs and projects?
I work all over, from my office in London, sometimes from my office at home, internationally when working on a project we can be in the client’s offices, home or in a hotel even on a plane and pretty much anywhere where I have a moment to put pen to paper or finger to keyboard these days!
Who is one of your inspiration?
I’m inspired by so many people and of course being a woman, I’m inspired by all the incredible women around me, including my mother who taught me that we could all do something greater than ourselves, and my daughter Celine who inspired me to create the company which was named after her. In terms of designers, well there are so many, I love so much of what other designers are doing, I am inspired not only by her designs but their ability to achieve and develop their own designs and push the boundaries of what they themselves feel they can do.
Are there any designs and interior designers from the past that you appreciate a lot? I have to mention Zaha Hadid, a relative of mine and frankly an inspiration to all women, in this industry or otherwise, in fact probably an inspiration for anyone in any industry. I think there were so many reasons to appreciate this Iraqi born woman who made it to the top not only of her carer but did so whilst refusing to fit into anybox or category, she was courageous enough to be herself.
What is your life philosophy?
To do everything with purpose and with joy and to the absolute best of my ability.
What advice you have for the next generation, particularly for those hoping to follow in your footsteps?
Think carefully about getting into interior design. I think it’s an incredible job to have, but having also been a lawyer who worked very long hours, this has been the most pressured job I have ever had. It is a career that simply involves everything from technical architectural skill sets, design, sourcing, curating, management, to accounting and an incredible amount of communication, marketing skills and so much more that I just couldn’t all fit into one paragraph. I think lots of people underestimate the type of skill set required for this profession and although it is incredibly rewarding it is can also be very challenging.

A moment with Interior Designer Sheela Levy on her latest project Villa 11 in Palma de Mallorca
Tell us a bit about your work at the beautiful Villa Nr. 11 in Palma de Mallorca. How was it working on this project? Working on Villa Nr. 11 was an obsessive labour of love that spanned a couple of years. Starting with the feng shui, learning the history of the period and the building, the architecture and designs, to the restoration planning, creating the renderings, and regularly checking the building work; it's been a fascinating and interesting journey at every step. It took me over a year to create the renderings as I chose every organic colour palette (even though old buildings are very restrictive on the colours you are permitted to use!), every stone, old wood flooring and fireplaces, every piece of furniture, every cushion, every plant, every piece of art...Trying to keep within the style of the period, yet ensuring that I create a space that is modern and incredibly warm and comfortable, and most importantly, it has everything a discerning home owner would need and want. I spent many days and nights pouring over every minute detail again and again, a process I enjoy most about working on any new Home. I hope that the love and passion I put into Nr. 11 is evident to whoever walks in. What do you think are the main design elements to consider when it comes to designing such a beautiful Villa? When designing and restoring an old Villa like Nr. 11, it so important to keep as much of the old, historic ceilings, walls and floors wherever possible. That's why it was so important for us to hire a historian and understand the period and the stories of the families that had inhabited the space and what changes had been made during hundreds of years. Peel the layers bit by bit. The beautiful old wooden carved and painted ceilings that had been hidden behind ugly false ceilings, the old arches that had been sadly covered and painted over...Carefully recovering and restoring it all, bringing the old beauty back was essential at every step.
How do you characterize your style? My style is modern minimalism meets homely comfort! I normally love a neutral palette that allows the carefully selected beautiful pieces and art to shine. I scout the world for ideas and inspirations and then find the perfect space and home for it. I live and breathe interior design on a daily basis. Today, I walked into the legendary Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi's breathtaking Mumbai store (a place I pay homage to everytime I am in Mumbai). Instead of looking at the elaborate and beautiful wedding outfits and jaw-dropping old jewellery, all I could do was touch, feel and awe at the inspiring design of his stores. A beautiful old Mumbai building with high ceilings that look run down from the outside, but is a restored haven on the inside. Intricately connected rooms with high ceilings joined by elaborate old staircases. Every nook and cranny has some object that has been carefully sourced and placed. The breathtaking naturally hand-dyed fabrics which have been painstakingly hand embroidered for months by master tailors, some laced with hundreds of pearls. All this is beautifully enhanced by the dark warm walls, covered in multiple large and small destressed frames that are layered with vintage fabrics and old prints. Dark floral velvet curtains separate each room, large ancient chandeliers and pieces carefully picked from antique stores and markets around the world. Its a space that delights your senses to the core and I love sitting there for hours, soaking it all in and thinking about the next home I would like to design, where I blend the old with the new! I am lost in my own world as I sit designing my own collection of intricate photo frames and chairs! That's how I work! I find inspiration wherever I go; in nature, in my environment, in fashion, or the smallest thing I see out there. I watch and I learn. You never stop learning!
SHEELA LEVY INTERIORS
Sheela started in 2015, but she felt she had been living this role for 30 years. She designed, decorated and curated homes from New York to Mumbai for discerning clients, friends and family. Being a qualified practitioner of Imperial Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology and Face Reading, has given her an in-depth understanding of space and energy, and honed her intuition about bringing tranquility and harmony to both the home and its inhabitants.
Are there any interior designers from the past that you appreciate a lot? I have an eclectic sense of design and get inspirations from all designers past and present; whether they are interior or fashion designers. I love the colourful palette of Kit Kemp, the warm and minimalist wabisabi simplicty that Axel Vervoordt uses, to the elegant splendour of designer Sabyasachi Mukerjee.
