WE ARE A TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS DEDICATED TO OUR CLIENTS ’ MISSION.
Our business is one hundred percent healthcare-related. For over thirty years Pomarico Design Studio Architecture PLLC (PDS) has provided full Architectural and Interior Design services on a wide range of healthcare projects. Our experience in healthcare architecture is the by-product of extensive hands-on planning, design and administrative activities involving additions to and the modernization of many major metropolitan medical centers. Our Senior Care experience addresses the full spectrum of care delivery for our aging population. Senior care services range from Assisted Living, Alzheimer and Long Term Care, Sub-Acute Nursing Units and Skilled Nursing Units.
SENIOR CARE A SSISTED LIVING FACILITIES
Our residences are designed to meet the housing and medical needs of seniors at a pivotal time in their lives. As family members leave their homes, this residence will be a replacement of not only their home, but also the home that their families have associated with, often for many years of their lives. Providing a warm and nurturing atmosphere for residents and families is the fundamental driver of our designs. The residences are designed to emulate a home in sense of scale through the use of materials and colors, to blend and minimize its place in the landscape and to enhance the experience of residents, family members and the surrounding community.

The process of designing an assisted living residence begins with the design of the individual room. Room types are developed for varying resident needs, which include single rooms, studio apartments and double occupancy rooms. All resident room design is driven around supporting their activities of daily living and providing residents with the opportunity to live and flourish in a home like setting. As residents age, they are dealing with end of life issues, which impair vision, hearing and mobility, this in addition to other health issues that impact their cardio pulmonary systems. Most residents lived normal lives, and are only now in their autumn years dealing with their current health issues which impact mobility, and as such are rather unfamiliar with mobility challenges. Each resident room has
been designed to address mobility impairment and provide a safe living environment that spatially supports their needs to allow them to live with dignity and in safety. Each resident room has also been designed to accommodate family visitation, knowing that family and support of family members is integral to positive outcomes.

Our approach employs a “Neighborhood Design. Neighborhoods are designed as loops or circuits with no dead ends. This design reinforces a sense of community, improving socialization, resident and family member interactions. Within each neighborhood there are landmarks and destinations, which in addition to being required functions, are organized in such that they are waypoints in the resident experience. These circuits additionally meet life safety code requirements prohibiting dead end corridors and leading all residents to fire stairs.

We focus our design and construction to promote comfort, healing, and optimal quality of life to the community. Private and semi-private resident room suites, abundant therapeutic recreational and lounge community spaces throughout, as well as a wide variety of social activities and homelike amenities. The open floor plan concept encourages group dynamics and social engagement through relaxing activity areas both within and outside the facility.
Many of our projects have been adaptive reuse projects updating existing facilities. These facilities are redesigned to meet current codes and standards, ADA requirements, and often times downgrading occupancy to expand amenities.
SENIOR CARE LONG TERM ACUTE CARE
Long-term acute care (LTAC) provides complex inpatient services for patients in the recovery phases of severe acute illness and designed to deliver more specialized clinical care than that of Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). While each individual LTAC unit provides clinical support spaces for charting and provider work stations must be provided by codes within a hospital environment, our individual healthcare design approach and use of muted construction materials help promote care and comfort to the recovering population.
