This proposal is an attempt to rethink the traditional idea of the chapel as a place directly connected with the religious process. It is not so much about the appeal to God, but about the appeal to ones inner world.
Дана пропозиція є спробою переосмислення традиційного уявлення про каплицю, як місця, пов'язаного безпосередньо з релігійним процесом. Тут йдеться не стільки про звернення до Бога, скільки про звернення до власного внутрішнього світу.
The small island of Pessegueiro in southwest Portugal is a unique place with a rich history and remarkable landscape. The atmosphere reigning here is capable to fascinating and abstracting the visitor from the influence of the outside world and society. Finding itself here, the one involuntarily thinks about the meaning of being and its place in this world.
Невеликий острів Пессегейро на південному заході Португалії - унікальне місце з вражаючою історією та мальовничим краєвидом. Атмосфера, що тут панує, здатна захоплювати та абстрагувати відвідувача від впливу зовнішнього світу та суспільства. Опинившись тут, мимоволі замислюєшся над сенсом буття та своїм місцем у цьому світі.
Taking as a basis the geographical orientation of the site and the presence of some natural and man-made artifacts, we tried to combine all these factors, creating a new link in the existing chain, without breaking the delicate balance that had been forming over the centuries.
Взявши за основу географічну орієнтацію ділянки, наявність деяких природних та рукотворних артефактів, ми спробували поєднати всі ці фактори, створивши новий елемент, при цьому не порушивши того вразливого балансу, що формувався впродовж століть.
Thus, we got two axes, clearly oriented to the cardinal points, on which we placed a laconic volume in the shape of a cross, that indirectly reminiscent of the sacral purpose of the building. The deliberate simplicity of the architecture is inferior to the greatness and beauty of nature.
Таким чином, ми отримали дві осі, що чітко орієнтовані по сторонах світу, на яких розмістили лаконічний об’єм у формі хреста, що опосередковано нагадує про сакральне призначення будівлі, умисна простота якого поступається величі та красі природи.
The east wing of the building faces to the natural dock where the visitor arrives from the mainland. Here is the entrance to the chapel. Overcoming the ascent of the stairs, the visitor finds himself in the center of the cross, where he is given a choice: where to go or which view to admire. Zoning of the inner space occurs due to vertical planning connected by stairs. In addition, there is an opportunity to get inside through the south wing on a natural descent, or climb on the roof to solitude outside. Thus, there is more than one place for contemplation and reflection.
Східне крило будівлі орієнтовано до природньої гавані, куди прибуває відвідувач з материка. Саме тут розташований вхід до каплиці. Долаючи сходи, відвідувач опиняється у центрі хреста, де обирає куди піти та що споглядати. Зонування внутрішнього простору відбувається за рахунок вертикального планування - перепаду рівнів, пов’язаних сходами. Також є можливість потрапити всередину природнім схілом у південному крилі, або навпаки піднятися на дах, щоб усамітнитись назовні. Таким чином, існує більше одного місця для споглядання та роздумів.
