2. Situation | Ситуаційний план
The project consists of two buildings. The first building, located in the front, with the representation of its facade corresponding to the important status of the street. The volume of the building and the rough composition rhymes with several neighbouring houses in the block, and also a reactions to the topography. The neighbouring building is the Institute of Labor Medicine which has the volumetric composition of a palace and by its location is the central axis of the block. The space given between the proposed building and the Institute of Labor Medicine, simultaneously give importance to both buildings and articulates palace composition of the insitute. The second building has a lower ground level and is back from the line of the street, because of that it has different and reduced facades and has an almost all-sided facade organisation. The buildings generate a certain tension and, at the same time, a chamber-like atmosphere in the spacious courtyard created with existing buildings. The two buildings are connected with each other by a language of colour, and by the organization of facade elements and details. The very same green colour is a modern Kiev vernacular motif which marks details and elements of improvement in public space. This specific colour is also present in Ukrainian folk architecture and painting of the first half of the 20th century.

Проект складається з двох будинків. Перший будинок, розташований у фронті забудови, має фасад, що своєю репрезентацією відповідає статусу вулиці. Об’єм будівлі та груба композиція римуються з кількома сусідніми будинками у кварталі, а також є реакцією на рельєф. Сусідня будівля - Інститут медицини праці має об’ємну композицію палацу та за своїм розташуванням є центральною віссю кварталу. Простір, що відводиться між пропонованим будинком та Інститутом медицини праці, одночасно надає значення обом будівлям, та підкреслює палацову композицію інституту. Другий будинок розташований нижче за рельєфом і відступає від лінії вулиці, через це репрезентація його фасадів редукована, і він має майже всебічну фасадну організацію. Будинки створюють певну просторову напругу між собою та водночас досить камерну атмосферу, у просторому внутрішньому дворі, створеному з уже існуючими будівлями. Ці дві будівлі пов’язані між собою через кольоровий мотив та організацією фасадних елементів та деталей. Той самий зелений колір - це сучасний київський вернакулярний мотив, який позначає деталі та елементи громадського простору. Цей специфічний колір присутній в українській народній архітектурі та живописі першої половини 20 століття.

The plan organization of «House 1» uses the central arrangement of vertical communications (stairs, elevator) with illumination of stairs and stairwell by a lantern window. Such an arrangement of vertical communications is typical for Kyiv buildings of the XIX century, and is also optimal for residential developement along the street, with two deaf facades. In «House 1» there is a variability of apartments (one-, two- and three-roomed), it creates a class differentiation of residents and as a result a more vivid and pluralistic environment. On the 0 floor there is a restaurant, on the -1 - bar with access via external stairs, along with laundry and storage. «House 2» has a simple organization of the plan, does not contain public premises and is completely residential (with the only exception of the workshops on the -1 floor). In both houses in order to achive a spatial richness, there are no corridors inside the apartments. Організація плану «Будинку 1» використовує центральне розташування вертикальних комунікацій (сходи, ліфт) з освітленням зенітним ліхтарем сходів і сходових майданчиків. Подібне розташування вертикальних комунікацій, є характерним для київських будівель XIX в., а також є оптимальним при забудові по лінії вулиці, з двома глухими фасадами. У «Будинку 1» присутня варіативність квартир (одно-, дво- і трикімнатні), це створює класову диференціацію мешканців і як наслідок цього більш живе середовище. На 0 поверсі розташовується ресторан, на -1 бар з доступом через зовнішні сходи, а також приміщення для прання і зберігання. «Будинок 2» має просту організацію плану, не містить приміщень громадського призначення та є повністю житловим (винятком є майстерні на -1 поверсі). В обох будинках, щоб створити просторове багатство, всередині квартир немає коридорів.

«House 1», located in the front line of the street, is corresponding to its angular location by the elements of the facades, at the same time keeping the end facade deaf, as a gesture and the possibility of further development of the street. Main facade of the «House 2» is oriented to the courtyard, working with a chamber atmosphere of it. Both buildings are connected by an underground parking. Stairs which are connecting the street with the lower level of the topography create a new through transit and preserve the characteristic permeability of the blocks in Kyiv. «Будинок 1», розташований в лінії забудови вулиці, реагує на своє кутове розташування елементами фасадів, зберігаючи при цьому торцевий фасад глухим, як жест і можливість подальшого розвитку забудови вулиці. «Будинок 2» орієнтований головним фасадом у двір працюючи з камерною атмосферою і затишком двору. Обидві будівлі пов’язані через підземний паркінг. Сходи на перепаді рельєфу створюють новий наскрізний транзит і зберігають характерну для Києва проникність кварталів.
